I was never all too sure of what it really meant to just love what you do, but Terry is about as passionate for math and teaching as it gets, and that much is clear, even to me. I cannot even begin to describe the lengths that he will go to help his students. Terry likes to keep up to date with his students, just to ensure that they're on track and prepared. As a junior struggling to keep up with my classes, I found that I didn't have extra time outside of class to study for Calculus AB. Terry was always able to get to the root of the concepts and condense the topics in an efficient manner. Furthermore, anything that I didn't understand, Terry addressed outside of class. He never hesitates to help students when he has time: emailing me solutions and explanations to questions that I couldn't get within the tutoring session. Math has always been a struggle for me, as as far as I could remember. Ever since I was in elementary school, my parents hired countless math tutors in the hopes of having me succeed in math, and I'm confident to say that Terry was the only one that achieved that. I downloaded the yelp app and made an account just so I can write this. This is out of respect for the best and most legendary math tutor DB has ever seen. I was Terry's student in the seventh grade, and then again my later half of high school. I can't say I have a perfect memory of when I was his student in middle school, but I can confidently say Terry has not changed over the years. He still put his students first, provides individualized lesson plans that adapt to each kid, and makes kids better at math. It also speaks to Terry's greatness that people from other tutoring places would try to troll him and write a fake one star yelp review recommending other math tutors in the area (the ones that were probably behind that review). For most people math is not a fun subject. Unlike most teachers who try to make you like math, Terry tries to make you understand the math so that you don't hate math as much as you did before. So much to say about Terry where to start! I had went to mathnasium in middle school and would try to book a tutoring session with Terry any chance that I could. Terry has raised my level of confidence in math and helped me love math. I came to him a little late; literally for the last test in my Alg2/trig honors class freshman year. I was failing the class, and never earned anything higher than a B- , but with the help of Terry, I earned my first (also my last because it was the last test) A in Alg2 trig H. Let me get things straight here. Whatever that one star review was from Chase W. is COMPLETELY untruthful, it's insanely ridiculous how far from accuracy that review is. I'm currently in Trig/Math Analysis with (sorry if he sees this but..) possibly the worst math teacher I've ever had, it's been beyond frustrating trying to get a good grade in his class. Terry not only likes math, he LOVES math, and his passion for math really translates into the way he teaches. I started going to terry for help with math since my freshman year and have been going since. Terry is the best math tutor I have ever had. He really tries to all his students feel at home when the are getting tutored and always makes sure his students understand the material before they leave. If I ever need help with math, even if it's 11pm at night, I know I can send it to terry and he will not only answer the question for me, but explain in depth why he got the answer he got. Terry is the best tutor I've ever had, but he's also one of the best people I have ever met. In my life, I've had approximately 5 to 6 math tutors, and none of them can even compare to Terry has done for me. I started in 8th grade when I couldn't understand trigonometry. I had a different tutor at the time and I just couldn't understand math. But once I started learning from Terry, I went from failing all of my trig quizzes, to scoring 96% on the test. And ever since I started high school, I have never gotten lower than a 94% in a math class, and I'm sure that this is due to Terry's dedication and skill in teaching. I used to hate math so much in middle school, but ever since I started lessons with Terry, math has become one of my more tolerable subjects. (which is saying a lot, because I rarely tolerate anything) And I have never met anyone who was so enthusiastic about math or their work. His enthusiasm is contagious and one can't help but feel that maybe math isn't so bad after all. He always has a positive attitude, no matter what you score on the test. Even when you fail a test, he isn't so much disappointed at his students but rather, he is more disappointed in himself, because he feels that he didn't do enough to help. And to me, that speaks volumes about his character. Another really great thing he does is help over Facebook. People usually have to wait a week to see their tutor again, so their questions aren't answered immediately. But not with Terry. Whenever you ask him a question over facebook, he will ALWAYS reply, as long as he's still awake. However, once I started getting lessons from Terry, I became more confident in my math classes. Terry would go over the concepts that I was confused with from various angles until I would be able to apply the concepts myself. He wouldn't make you feel dum for asking very basic questions that you should've already learned, but would rather start off by saying "hmm that's a good question." It was always fun and productive learning from Terry. After a lesson, I left class really feeling like I had gotten every question fully answered and didn't have a single confusion left. Furthermore, I was touched when Terry would make extra time for me when I was studying for Math SAT II. He really cares for his students and would take personal time out of his day to cater to the needs of all his students. His lessons and tips were always so helpful... and Terry really is just an amazing person to learn from and also befriend. I was so fortunate to find Terry in yelp. Terry is absolutely a gifted and the BEST teacher who genuinely loves math and knows how to teach math in a way that my son can understand and even love math. My son is in 10th grade learning pre calculus. Terry is good in connecting the dots to find out the struggles my son has in math and made sure my son understand the subject. Not only is he passionate in teaching math, he is compassionate for his students. He cares about the students' wellbeing, beyond just academic grades. My son had quite a few tutors but Terry is the best and the only one he takes as his good friend. He goes beyond the paid hours to tutor my son whenever is needed. He is loaded with work but he usually responses to my emails quickly with details. Great services to both students and the parents. My son has only praises for him.
