Teruya's Andagi is a wonderful small shop that sells Andagi (Okinawan doughnuts) as well as freshly made bento and spam, tempura , garlic chicken rolls. The food is fresh and delicious. It is a takeout only place, but there is parking across the street at Walgreens as well as street parking. The food is good and fast, I would definitely recommend Teruya's Andagi for a quick bite or in the mood for Andagi.

Takeout lunch from Honolulu, Hawaii... I guess I've never been here before because I thought that Teruya's Andagi just sells andagi (Okinawan donut). However, when I saw Jackie K.'s photos and reviews, I learned that bentos are available, too! The next obstacle for me was the parking. I dislike metered street parking. I had to just figure it out. Another aspect to consider was the hours of operation. Teruya's Andagi is closed on Sundays and Mondays. The remaining five days of the week are open from 10am to 2pm. When I approached the cozy shop, there was a line out the door! That's because customers don't go inside. Everyone stays outside. The workers are inside and there's a table blocking the entrance. On the table are samples of bentos with prices clearly marked. Service was very friendly! I told the cheerful woman that this was my first visit. She explained that this company used to be at Shirokiya! Wow... that was quite a while ago... over 8 years?... at Ala Moana Center! I took 3 bentos to my mom's house and shared with my sister and niece. My sister said her office had ordered from Teruya's in the past! My niece enjoyed the Shrimp Tempura roll. I liked everything... the Veggie Bento was colorful and tasty! The Garlic Chicken Roll Bento and andagi in the Veggie Bento were delicious! The prices were so reasonable! I will return!

11/6/25-So happy to pick up my Instagram prize of a $25 gift certificate from Teruya's Andagi and an adorable bento bag from The Soft Arts! Thank you Teruya's Andagi and The Soft Arts! Of course I immediately redeemed my GC for Teruya's delicious bentos! I picked up the large garlic chicken bento, two hand rolls ( shrimp and garlic chicken) bento, two shrimp hand rolls and a few andagi and sweet potato mochis! I shared the yummy food with family! When I went to pick up the prize, they were busy filling orders. That's a good sign for any food establishment! The little kitchen was in full speed with fresh Andagi being made and so much more. Support local. Enjoy great tasting bentos here! Do not miss out on trying the sweet potato mochi and Andagi! Street metered parking available. Credit card and cash transactions. Clean kitchen and friendly environment.

Bitter melon Veggie bento- most excellent bento (4/25)

"Andagi Heaven- but there's more!" Their andagi is great. But their bentos and bowls are among the best. We are partial to their veggie bentos, their bitter melon bento offering in particular. There are quite filling and pretty guilt free- but more importantly, it's delicious. But of course, if you crave andagi and it's not Bon dance season, Teruyas has you covered.

We got some bentos for an event preordered from Teruya's. There was a great variety of options to choose from. I ordered the vegetarian and my husband got the garlic chicken roll bento. The vegetarian bento was delightful in taste and looks. My husband wasn't a fan of the chicken because it was a bit hard like it sat out for a while. I bet it tastes much better fresh but that's the thing with bentos.

I had some business at the Lunalilo Post Office, and thought I'd stop by Teruya's Andagi, which was along my way home. Having been there before, I knew that it was strictly a takeout place. Just inside the door, there's a counter with two display cases: one with various bento, and the other with Sweet Potato Mochi and Andagi. As I was looking at the menu and displays, I was greeted by the lady behind the counter. She seemed pleasant and helpful. I've had their andagi and sweet potato mochi before and knew they were good, but I don't recall having their bento. The menu items were reasonably priced. I decided to try Teruya's Oyako Don and their Veggie Bento. She informed me that the oyako don is made to order and would take a few minutes, which was fine with me. I chose the veggie bento as a lighter option, possibly for my wife. It had a variety of vegetable dishes in addition to the rice. She offered me a choice between one with bitter melon or seaweed and showed me what each one looked like. I decided on the one with bitter melon. When I got home, I ate the oyako don while it was still warm. It was a little on the sweet side, but still tasty and satisfying, with tender pieces of chicken. I'm saving the veggie bento for later, in case my wife comes home hungry. https://bsky.app/profile/raymondkaya.bsky.social/post/3lfiswytgwc2c

This cute little hole in the wall spot has several varieties of bentos to choose from, as well as andagi and sweet potato mochi. Included on the menu as well are donburi bowls and rolls. They also offer plain white rice and fried chicken for those that don't want the sozai (side dishes) We ordered several few chicken rolls (kind of like a chicken musubi) and andagi. The chicken was tasty and cooked well and the andagi was yummy. When you walk up to the door, there is a table which has the bento selections and sweet potato mochi and andagi. The employee at the order table was very nice. There were other employees working inside and out order came out quickly. I would definitely return to buy a bento or two. This place is great for a quick bite, lunch, or even just a snack for yourself or to share.

This little spot is SO good! Takeout only. I helped a friend pick up a very large order for a party (over 60 bentos) and they were each packed with care; an employee kindly helped cart it out to the car and moved them into the trunk, too! The order was freshly prepared and right on time for pick up. Not only was the service great, but the food was so delicious! I tried the large roll bento and the veggie bento. The roll bento came with a shrimp tempura hand roll, a fried chicken hand roll, a bit of sausage, two croquettes, and some veggies (eggplant and greenbeans). The veggie bento was massive and came with 9 different little items including andagi (fried dough, savory), lotus, eggplant, green beans, daikon/carrot, hijiki seaweed, rice, and squash. It was all so delicious.

My office picked up lunch from here one day, and I got the veggie bento. I loved the variety of vegetables and sides that were in here. It doesn't look like a lot of food, but it was pretty filling. All the ingredients were fresh and of high quality. I think it had eggplant, tofu patty, hijiki, kabocha, purple rice, nishime, green beans, andagi, and kimpira - I could be wrong because I don't know my Japanese food very well.

Which makes this review frustrating to write. The rice is exceptional. The sourcing is thoughtful, the seasonal varieties are genuinely special and if you care about Japanese rice, this place deserves its reputation. The service does not. On my latest visit I walked in with my family, including my two and four year old. If you've ever shopped with kids that age, you know you're already working overtime keeping little hands off displays, making sure nothing gets broken, trying to be respectful of the space. Not once did anyone greet us. No hello. No welcome. No acknowledgment that we'd even walked through the door. When I asked what I thought was a perfectly reasonable question whether I should buy the limited seasonal rice or the variety I'd enjoyed on a previous visit the answer felt dismissive, almost like I was wasting their time. If you're building a business around expertise, helping customers understand the differences shouldn't feel like pulling teeth. That's the entire point of having knowledgeable staff. Yes, the parking is inconvenient. Yes, the prices are premium. I can live with both because the product is genuinely excellent. What I can't understand is why a store built around craftsmanship seems so indifferent to hospitality. I still bought the rice because it's that good. But I left feeling like my business was expected, not appreciated. I sincerely hope they improve because I'd rather support them than look elsewhere. But if another shop opens with rice of this quality and people who simply smile, say hello and take a minute to help customers make a decision, I'll switch without thinking twice. The rice earns five stars. The experience earns one.

I love coming to this Foodland! If I lived here, I'd be here at least two or three times a week or…read moremaybe more. I did come here some mornings and have a small breakfast. They also have my favorite Mexican sodas, Jarritos! But what I really love is the wine bar in the back of the store! I came here twice because there was a really good brute rose that we liked. It was also really cool when Jin, one of the bartenders, recognized me from the last time I was here. He also remembered Janey when we had brunch and he took care of us. They also have some great food to order, but no dessert. Also, you cannot eat food purchased from Foodland at the bar. It's just store policy so no argue! They also seem to have a number of regulars that frequent which is cool. Looking forward to coming back! Mahalo Foodland and Jin!

I don't normally go to Foodland as I prefer poke from other places but I had to go to get Asato's!…read moreI got the strawberry and lychee flavors and they are sooo good. It's convenient to be able to pick up asato's there instead of go to their Pali location and sadly their Waikīkī location doesn't sell pints. The pickled lihing lychee flavor was the but I resisted as I more of a purest. My husband also fought his demons as he wanted the green river flavor. But the lychee was so good! Strawberry too! Asato's must be wizards because tell me how it's frozen yet remains light and soft (straight out of the freezer!) If you're ever there, go check um go! I'm only rating it 3 stars because traffic and parking are terrible and it's so crowded in the store. But I did get their Kara-oke chicken with miso shoyu (?) sauce. It was crispy and plentiful but I wouldn't describe it as delicious or craveable so I wouldn't order it again when I go back to get my asato's.

Absolutely loved the chicken katsu omakase at J Shop. The whole experience felt thoughtful,…read moreelevated, and still comforting in that way only really great Japanese-inspired food can be. The chicken katsu was the star -- perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, and seasoned just right. What made it even better was the omakase presentation, where each course felt intentional and paced well, making the meal feel special from start to finish. Everything came together beautifully with great flavor, texture, and attention to detail. Service was friendly and the overall vibe made it feel like a fun, memorable dining experience rather than just another meal. Definitely a place I'd return to and recommend to anyone who appreciates a creative take on katsu done really well.

Who knew? By day,…read moreJ-Shop is a retail store selling imported fresh produce, meats and fish from Japan (tip- Thursdays are fresh fish delivery day) By night- an Izakaya serving great 'FRESH" food made upon order. And the price? Well, it's priced right! Seats about 12 people TOTAL. I might be shooting myself in the foot by revealing what I consider to be a great kept secret! OR. I must have been living under a rock NOT to have known about this place. (OK, I've been to the market during the day but never knew about the night time activities). I will caution the food takes time to get prepared so be on top of your order or it may get lost in the shuffle (or lost in sake) It's BYOB and like other izakaya with BYOB policy; be sure you bring some adult beverage for the chef and his workers. Sashimi Omakase? The best!
