Everything in the shop has good presentation and all the mochi is packaged in cute little containers. There are other Japanese snacks and cute stickers you can get there also. I had no idea Fujiya Hawaii is still open for business. I was gifted these Pure Peanut Butter Mochi from one of my students during Teachers appreciation week. It was sooo delicious! Soft, fresh mochi filled with crunchy peanut butter. Yum! I remember when they were on Waikamilo Road in Kalihi. If you didn't know, like me. They've relocated to the McCully area. Where mochi is continued to be made fresh and a window to see the making of it. The bright and colorful painted wall caught my attention. Great for taking selfies or pictures your purchases. There's three benches outside decorated with stickers that's available for purchase. Too cute! Fujiya Hawaii offers much more than delicious mochi. Such as iced cold drinks, locally made snacks, mochi leis, T-Shirts and the cutest stickers, to name a few things available for purchase. This charming little shop is very clean and offers a variety of mochi to choose from. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and was assisted right away. There was one employee working at the register and another in the back. The service was attentive and efficient although there was only one person on the floor. They carry a great assortment of mochi and manju, including some varieties that need to be refrigerated. In addition, they offer local favorites like li-hing gummy bears and assorted flavored sembei, giving you plenty of sweet and savory options to choose from. The employee at the register was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, happily sharing information about the different mochi flavors and offerings. Most importantly, the mochi here is absolutely delicious. During this visit, we ordered a Girls' Day pack and tried the chocolate ganache Oreo flavor which was amazing. The mochi was perfectly soft and paired beautifully with the rich chocolate ganache filling. My friend loved it so much that she went back the very next day to order more! A friend called me to say she picked some mochi for me from Fujiya. It has been a very long time since I've enjoyed Fujiya products and I was very grateful for the treats. I received 2 strawberry and 2 tangerine mochi. I figured that I would eat 2 today and 2 tomorrow. Didn't happen. It was so good that ate all 4 in one evening. The tangerine was surprising. There is a whole tangerine in the mochi and it was sweet, juicy and sweet. Never had anything like this. The strawberry mochi was also a must buy. Finally made it! They close early and I keep missing my window on Saturdays. The products offered, prices and sizes have changed a little since I was here last. Shop is so airy, uncluttered and clean. Very inviting. Today, I came for chocolate and coconut senbei, but only had coconut. I was told I could place and order and to call a couple days ahead to see of it was on rotation. They are featuring pumpkin flavor senbei and butter mochi for the Halloween / Thanksgiving holiday season. Possibly change to something else in December? I also picked up a three pack of azuki bean manju for my uncledaddy Taka and strawberry cheesecake mochi to share w mom. The parking lot was 3/4 full, but cleared out quickly. The ladies working the store are so friendly and helpful and I was offered a sample of the pumpkin senbei. Definitely will be back for more awesome senbei & mochi/manju goodies. One last thing...Fujiya senbei no longer sold in the hex shaped boxes in stores. You can only get it in bags from the shop. They also have really cute tote bags for $25. This little shop is tucked away in the neighborhood. We finally found time to check it out and I am SO glad we did. All the mochi is so fresh. I was able to try multiple flavors including peanut butter, white bean, red bean. They have some with fresh fruits inside and we dabbled in the grape and strawberry ones. I haven't had such fresh mochi in years because it's hard to find where I live. The staff was friendly. Free parking available out front. Quaint little place. And I've had plenty. Soooo soft and chewy. Melts in your mouth like actual magic. I'd definitely get the strawberry. The crunchy pb was good too but very rich the way that pb is and I prefer a simple red bean filling anyway. I didn't get to try the berry one but am sure that's amazing as well. Went here on a recommendation from a friend and was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it! I actually like the ChiChi Dango ones more than the filling version! The fillings I felt took away from the mochi. We bought the new years box with red bean and peanut butter- I felt like that was just okay. It was difficult to figure out if I wanted it or not since it was enclosed in a box and you couldn't see inside. The chichi dango are super soft and fluffy , tasted like heaven. The best chi chi dango in Honolulu! Found Fujiya after searching mochi. As a tourist, I was only looking to travel to spots I could reach by bus or HOLO. And luckily for me, Fujiya was only a ~20min bus ride from my hotel. I had read that hella people line up at 9am when they open, and even on a Friday they had a line waiting around 845am. Some were locals, but there were some of us crazies who were tourists waiting to get our hands on some delicious, buttery, mochi or chi chi dango before flying out or starting our day. There are SO MANY flavors and choices that you might not see online, like mango, melon, strawberry, lychee, the list goes on. I was definitely overwhelmed. I also had to get some items for my friends who couldn't make the trip out in time, so in all we got the butter mochi, strawberry daifuku, regular chi chi dango, lychee, and peanut butter (crunchy) mochi. Y'all THE WAY I CRIED biting into the peanut butter mochi. I literally have never had mochi so friggin soft like a buttery cloud. I cried. They butter mochi was insane. Much better and more pillow-like QQ consistency compared to Leonard's which I think is too thick and overrated. Support local and small biz. There was one treat I was determined to get in Waikiki... mochi! From the outside, the storefront is very unassuming, but the inside is filled with various packaged snacks, the most adorable stickers, and of course, mochi and chi chi dango. Fujiya has been around since 1953 and they also won a James Beard award in 2023 naming them an "outstanding bakery". We visited in the morning and the staff was actively working the back making and packing the mochi, bringing boxes out to the front counter as they were assembled. One employee greeted us and graciously introduced us to their selection of offerings. She raved about the peanut butter mochi, so we got some of those in addition to their red bean ones and a small box of their chi chi dango. The mochi had the perfect chew and elastic texture that I craved. The peanut butter one was filled with crunchy peanut butter and lightly coated in a peanut powder. I enjoyed the salty sweet combination and the crunch from the nuts. I loved the red bean mochi even more since the filling was so smooth and just the perfect sweetness. I don't recall ever having an authentic chi chi dango and I absolutely loved it. Made with coconut milk, it had a richer flavor and was SO soft. It's a perfect dessert and I regret not purchasing another box. We were advised to store our goods in the fridge if not eating them right away. Even when chilled, the mochi retained its soft texture and I actually preferred it slightly cold rather than at room temperature. Our treats really didn't last that long, though! They were all delicious and we devoured them within a day. read more

Even though I'm the only mochi fan in the family, this was a must stop! There is a private parking lot here which makes it super easy to grab and go. The left side has a lot of cute merchandise and snacks, great for souvenirs! The mochi options itself are overwhelming - so many great choices! Come here early since it does get super busy. Stopped by to pick up some musubis for some breakfast snacks. The musubis had a good topping to rice ratio. Out of all the ones we ordered, I really enjoyed the inari cucumber spam musubi. The sweet inari compliments the salty spam and the cucumber gave a nice texture to the whole musubi. We stopped by Fujiya after having lunch close by. It's my 2nd time there, really nice set up with a lots of convenient parking. The service there is outstanding, friendly & informative. They have a really diverse product mix from so many different mochi offerings, manju, senbei, arare & cute stickers. The crunchy peanut butter mochi was a flavor bomb, so ono & a 5 star eating experience. The senbei was interesting with 5 different flavors, crunchy & good. We got a bunch of neat local style stickers for our grandsons, they're going to like them. The one big disappointment was the azuki manju, looked so good, but the flavor was seriously lacking. The manju crust had no taste, just bland flour taste and far overwhelmed the small barely noticeable azuki filling. Maybe use more butter to improve taste & provide more filling so you don't have just a dough ball. Sorry, but this was a 1 1/2 star and brought down the overall rating. It's should be 3.5 stars overall, but can't give a half star. read more

We visit every time we're in Waikiki to get our mochi fix. We had the strawberry matcha and the orange chocolate mochi. The strawberry matcha mochi ($11.90 for 2) was good and the strawberry sweet. I was excited to try the orange chocolate mochi ($9.90 for 2) as I've had orange mochi in Japan. This one was so disappointing. They placed a whole tangerine in the middle, skin and all. The tangerine was hard, not sweet and the skin was chewy and not pleasant. With the prices they charge I'll have to think twice about returning. Nisshodo Candy which we frequent for mochi sells for $1.25 each and they were fresh and very soft with unique fillings: lychee, melon and lillikoi. read more

Went at 9 am Saturday before girls day & a dozen folks were already in line before they opened. The line moved nicely and I picked up $100 worth of various manju to give away to my besties. The store was kinda hard to see as the only signage was on the windows of the store. It does share the same parking lot as Minato Japanese Restaurant. The store is new, clean, and proper. Shelves full of yummy snacks, t-shirts, and display case with refrigerated mochi, and then a table with their colorful mochi and manju. My wife liked their Lychee Bites (4/5). We came here twice and tried: 1) butter mochi - SO SO GOOD, chewy, not too sweet, and the edge pieces are the best 2) tsunami mochi: ok- not a huge fan of the white bean 3) peanut butter mochi: ok, not a huge fan of peanut butter in desserts, personally 4) haupia mochi: this is the refrigerated one, the coconut was more subtle than in your face but still so good! 5) strawberry guava butter mochi - not a huge fan of this one! Got a gift from here last year and been meaning to come here because the fried nori was very addicting! Parking was a breeze right in front of the store. As you walk in, you're greeted by a clean & fresh environment filled with treats along the walls. The mochi is delicious and so is the butter mochi. My favorite was probably the guava butter mochi, but the pumpkin spice mochi was a close second. I tried their strawberry mochi, red bean mochi, white bean mochi, and peanut butter mochi as well - all were great. The mochi is just so soft - the texture really is perfection. The ratio of mochi to filling is also just right. The butter mochi texture was also just the right amount of chew with softness and butteriness. The space is very clean and well-laid out.
