After eating here I hate to see the limited reviews. This place is definitely not one to drive by for numerous reasons. We just happened upon here all by chance on the way home. I was searching for a place on Yelp as I always do because if I don't know the area I just hate to waist money not knowing if it will meet my expectations with what prices are these days. There were only a couple of pictures so I relied solely on the star rating and we turned around and drove back to it. SOOOOO GLAD WE DID. Service - even though the tables were full (a table actually invited us to sit at the end of theirs so we did not have to wait) the waitstaff - even those not responsible for us- were attentive, pleasant, and personable. Food- all 4 of us had something different and we all said we would definitely order it again. We had curly, regular, and sweet potato fries. Cheese burger, patty melt, club sandwich and Jakes chicken sandwich. I had to go with that because when we had parked in the back due to pulling a trailer, we had no idea how to get into this place and the forklift driver actually escorted us while he drove the forklift through the parking lot to show the way highly recommended it. Once we got inside it didn't stop there. He walked us to the cafe but on the way pointed out where everything was inside plus the other buildings. The supply area, toy area, saddle area, top of the line large knife display, and through the doors to the clothing area, home goods, then outside to the shoes and extensive gun shop. How did we not know about this place. Needless to say not only will we be back to eat - have to try their breakfast items, but then another trip to try other options on their lunch menu BUT, we have to allow a day just to TRY to make it through everything this place has available for the rancher. I did not even share that outside they have all sorts or stuff for fencing, feeding and working your livestock. So I know it sounds like I know somebody that owns this place but I don't. Never heard of this place till seeing it on Yelp. But being a retired business owner I really have to give a shout out when it's due because I understand that to make all this happen and the owners have it going on here along with the staff they have acquired. Great buyers have selected all quality (good to exceptional) here and a staff that you can tell love working here. I will be back and be bringing the trailer empty next time. LOVE this place, Food, service, selection, organization, and most of all feeling like a welcome patron. Very hard to find a business that hits a home run these days. I only took a few pictures but unfortunately none of our food because it was so good nothing was left! Don't drive by but if you did, turn around and go back. You will thank me you did!!! There is so much more I did not even share like the kids cow roping area and the biggest selection of saddles I would say in the world. And all the custom spurs!!! I don't even have a horse but wanted to buy a couple of pair anyway. I had not had a chance to read the reviews till after posting this because eating there was a quick decision. But I wanted to add to the person who wrote the 1 star review that business have to close at some point and if they followed your lead and stayed open to serve you, the next person would expect the same treatment and so forth so on till they are open 24/7. The wait staff are scheduled a specific number of hours and not only would they appreciate getting off their feet after an 8 hour shift, but I'm sure they have a life they schedule Dr apts etc around. Not not allowing you to order a 1/2 hour prior to closing would be different.

The food here is divine!! Everyone absolutely loved their breakfast, especially me! I got the biscuits and gravy with a side of home fries. The biscuits seemed to be toasted in butter and were so flavorful! The gravy was delicious too. The atmosphere here is pretty cool, lots of western decor and also very nice and attentive staff!

The rumors are true Rio Brazos Grill is fantastic. Not "good for a small town," not "surprisingly…read moredecent" just flat-out good. The kind of place where it's immediately obvious someone in the kitchen actually knows what they're doing, which already puts it ahead of most restaurants pretending to. The meal starts strong with flash-fried calamari Fresno chilies, sweet chili sauce, balanced heat, and a clean execution. It comes as strips, which feels a little safe. Rings or whole baby squid would've shown more technical confidence, but fine the flavor still delivers, and at the end of the day, that's what people actually remember. The Calabria chili shrimp follows with the same sense of control: spicy, but not trying to prove a point. Paired with grilled baguette, it does exactly what it's supposed to do support the dish instead of getting in the way. And then there's the Chicken Fried Ribeye, which sounds like a bad decision until you eat it. Crispy on the outside, rich and tender underneath, covered in black pepper gravy with buttermilk mashed potatoes, a potato nest, and because apparently restraint is optional--two fried quail eggs. It's excessive, but not stupid. That's a very fine line, and they walk it well. Chef Clint Connaway clearly has classical training--nobody just stumbles into a proper beurre blanc. The menu pulls from Southwestern, Native American, Mexican and French influences, which should feel chaotic but somehow doesn't. It works because the execution is consistent, even when the ideas get a little ambitious. That said, the place isn't perfect. The quail eggs show up so often they start to feel less like a signature and more like a habit. And for all the technical skill, there's a noticeable lack of local identity. With Bosque Ranch right down the road, it's hard not to wonder why more local beef isn't front and center. A stronger focus on seasonal or locally sourced ingredients would push this from great to something more grounded--something that actually tastes like where you are. And then there's the obvious question: why no brunch? A kitchen like this could absolutely dominate a brunch service. Instead, it's just... not happening, which feels like wasted potential. Still, none of that changes the core truth. The food is thoughtful, the technique is real, and most importantly you leave feeling satisfied instead of questioning your life choices. That alone is worth something.

I do the responsible thing and CALL AHEAD like a civilized human being. "Do y'all have prime rib?" I ask. "Yes," they say--with confidence. With conviction. With what I can only assume was zero verification. So I drive my hungry, hopeful self all the way there, already tasting that juicy, perfect bite in my mind... only to be told: "Oops, no they told you wrong, we dont have prime rib " Oops? That's not a minor inconvenience. That's betrayal. That's psychological damage. That's me sitting there questioning my life choices while staring at a menu I no longer trust. No apology worth mentioning, no effort to make it right--just vibes and disappointment. If you're going to crush someone's dinner dreams, at least have the decency to do it over the phone so I can cry in my car at home instead of your parking lot. 10/10 for building anticipation. 0/10 for delivering anything resembling prime rib. Would I come back? Only if I'm emotionally stronger.

The chopped steak comes with brown gravy, mushrooms, and onions. I also ordered a Caesar salad and a glass of unsweetened tea. The wait staff were pleasant. My friend requested the onions on the side and asked that the onions be cooked a specific way. The server wrote everything down. Unfortunately, my Caesar salad arrived soggy, and my friend's order was incorrect. It seemed as though the kitchen did not carefully read the ticket. This has now happened twice in the past month(s). My friend mentioned the issue to the wait staff, and we were told it would be corrected. However, the order never came back at all with it properly fixed. We left a gratuity, though we reduced it this time due to the repeated mistakes. This experience upset my friend and business partner, and we did not have time to wait for further explanations. Because this has now happened twice, I lowered my review from five stars to three. Details matter, especially during business lunches or any time. I hope they address and correct these issues soon.
