Great location. Clean. Always spots open. Pro tip: you can shop while you charge. There are a lot of stores within walking distance.

I am probably among his first customers, when he had the Euclid shop. This was in the hey days of the CWE, Flamingo Cafe, Europa, Balaban's, Culpepper's and others. I wanted a sandal with no back strap and with Steve's input, I got my first pair of custom sandals. The toe strap finally broke, and an identical new pair was purchased when the shop was on Delmar. The third pair was purchased while he was in Belleville. I wore and still wear these sandals virtually every day that the weather allows. Cheaper, accepted by the masses, but classless, flip-flops have never had a place in my closet. I don't need new sandals, but I need Steve's skill to see if he can salvage a Mary Francis purse in which the "leather" shoulder strap, cracked, peeled, chipped and is unusable, as it is. I believe anything that you buy from Steve will be as well made and your experience will make you believe that there are still people who don't accept mediocrity in their products. Give Sole Survivor a chance to make you or someone you love very happy with something you can't get at a box store. Dean Daniels Chesterfield, MO

When we arrived, we found a free parking spot on the street near the south entrance. It was a rainy morning but the animals were a bit more active, if anything. There are some attractions that have a charge, including the train, the carousel, the sea lion show and an animatronic dinosaur exhibit. Because there were 6 of us and we wanted to ride the train, we went ahead and paid for an annual membership instead. Unfortunately, after the rain cleared up, there were some technical problems and the trains didn't run at all on the day of our visit. We all enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit and the sea lion show was super cute! We probably only saw a third of the animals on our visit so I look forward to returning soon to see more animals and ride the train!

The zoo is much bigger than I expected, with plenty of exhibits to explore. The animal habitats also felt spacious, and the animals looked healthy, active, and well cared for. I also noticed that not every animal was on exhibit all the time, which I actually see as a positive. It means they have areas where they can get away from visitors and have some privacy, and I really appreciate that. The staff were wonderful too. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, helpful, and clearly cared about both the animals and the guests. My favorite exhibit was easily the penguins. You get incredibly close to them, and it's such a fun experience watching them waddle around, dive into the water, and zip past underwater like little torpedoes. I could have stood there for ages just watching them. The polar bears were another highlight. Seeing such massive animals swimming and roaming around up close is always impressive, and they had plenty of room to explore. There are so many different animals here that it's easy to spend most of the day wandering from exhibit to exhibit. It never felt rushed, and there was always something new around the corner. Overall, this is a fantastic zoo. Whether you're visiting St. Louis, looking for a family outing, or just want to spend a relaxing afternoon, it's an easy recommendation. I honestly can't believe a zoo of this quality is free.

The beds were comfortable and the room was quiet at night. I've been dog bitten twice in my life and am petrified of them. The owners were very congenial and accommodating and said they would put the dogs away if we notify them ahead of time, which isn't exactly convenient for a guest. The dogs barked at us once while we were in the common area which was completely unnerving. The website photos of extravagant breakfasts were lovely and looked delicious. We got fried eggs, toast and chicken sausage. The brochure stated breakfast was at 8:30. My husband started getting texts prior to 8 am needing to know what we wanted for breakfast because all the other guests were up and out. I don't like leaving underwhelming reviews but we were truly underwhelmed by the breakfast part of the B&B classification. The building truly is remarkable. The owners were kind and accommodating to find safe storage for a large painting I had brought for an appraisal event being held nearby. If you're a dog person, this may be a great place for you to stay.
