    Charging up
    Penny P.

What's up: Pea Soup! Who wants some pea soup?! Me, not really, I'm more of a Clam Chowder kind of gal, but this was a stop for us to charge up our car. So I guess, the car ate here instead of us :) Parking: There are 12 back-in charging stations and they are located towards the back of the parking lot, on the west side of the building. Environment: This charging location was convenient since it's located right off the 5 FWY. There's not too much to do nearby other than browsing around Pea Soup Andersen's. It's easily recognizable off the freeway with its unique windmill building. Restrooms are accessible and can be found towards the right of the building shortly after entering. They have a lot of items and souvenirs that you can purchase; it has a super touristy feel. Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. Convenient charging location and a place to kill time while the car charges up. Maybe grab some pea soup or a Danish pastry while you're at it!

This antique structure is next to the charging station.

This station supplied an ample number of superchargers. We chose one that was out-of-order, but there was no note on the station nor on our screen indicating it was out of order. If you are there during the working-hour day you will be happy to find many restaurants and stores a short walk away. BUT BEWARE IF YOU USE THIS 24 HOUR STATION AFTER HOURS. THERE IS NO BATHROOM FACICLTY. You will find the chargers in a dusty, dark back lot of the main street behind Andersen's Pea soup.

Not the nicest or fastest but they are very convenient. Bonus for being able to grab a Danish from the bakery while we charged.

As the Duke of Tesla Supercharger in Gustine, I have a huge complaint. This place needs a bathroom! Walking to the Love gas station in order to find a bathroom is unacceptable. I feel for the kitties which are starving and homeless. So I feed them whenever I charge my Tesla! Feed the !

Just behind Anderson's Split pea soup are the hidden Superchargers. It's a bit of a walk to other fast food places. You will have to Yelp to see what's around. The parking lot with feral cats is a little unkempt however the restrooms at Anderson's were ok. Walk around, stretch your legs and get some steps in. We charged up and headed on out on our Tesla road trip journey! Peace.

This is a great Tesla supercharging station to stop at on your trip. They have 12 stations right next to Pea Soup Anderson's for a bathroom break and some food - even a bar with TVs! We have been coming to this station for years and it's never been full, including weekends. Usually we are the only car there. Today, there are 5 cars on a Sunday afternooon. It's a great place to stop, charge and recharge!

    Oh yeah!

Conveniently located off the freeway. A bit sketchy at night though. Located to amenities that seem nice to visit during daylight.

Great place to charge with 341 mph fast charge to get us back on the road in 25 min. There is an Anderson's soup place, if you're hungry.

The other location in Buellton closed a while ago so I think this maybe the only one left. Could be the original but I'm not sure. Just off the 5 heading north. We stopped by for a quick bite before heading back on the road. Mid week which wasn't that busy. It's been so long ago that I didn't remember what the inside looked like. As we had our little pup with us, they were able to accommodate us. There's three entrance from the front area. Main being the one that leads you to the restaurant. Another is from the gift shop side and we also noticed people coming in from the side of the bar. One side is the restaurant which we looked at but ended up at the bar section. Which happened to be happy hour happening. Didn't know they had that to offer. Bar area was pretty quiet when we were there but it did pick up. There's also patio seating right outside there. Main menu pretty much has as everything but we just opted for some happy hour bites for now. Drink special was offered both for draft and bottle as well as cocktails and wine. Food menu, they were limited on that but the usual were offered. Both cup or bowl of the famous soup was available. Half order of the potatoes skin, onion rings and wings were available as well as the quesadillas. Soup was decent but could have been hotter. Onion rings, and the wings were ok. Good nothing major to rave about. Both served with ranch sauce. I also picked up some dessert from the counter which looked great. Happy hour items were decent for the price. The service for the whole place was great. All The staff and waitress were very friendly and helpful. Our waitress who was also the bartender was a major doll. She was very sweet. As well as all the ladies on the restaurant side. Very accommodating to us. Overall, it was a cute stop off for a quick bite. Cute gift shop that's worth a wandering around. Plenty of parking available.

Outside there is a photo op and the building looks really cool. Inside, you can find all things Danish. However, I was sad to find the shop was so much smaller than the pictures on Yelp show. Everything is connected inside - the shop, bakery, restaurant, bar, and restrooms. The restaurant is huge and there's also an eating area at the bar and a back patio, although it was dusty and cramped and I don't think many people use the patio seating. They are dog friendly and the bartender allowed us to sit in a corner of the bar with our two dogs for our dinner. We also were able to walk them around inside the shop. Split Pea Soup 3.5/5* The soup itself is boring. There's a grainy texture, good flavor, but blah. You definitely need to order the toppings to go with it, which is a weird combination of stuff that somehow makes the soup so much better. You get cheese, sliced ham, bacon, scallions, and croutons but the crunchy green onions and bacon are what makes the soup pop. It feels like eating a healthier version of chili. Country Fried Steak 2/5* Not your typical country fried steak. The batter on this is thin and isn't very textured with crunchy edges. It was like a sad limp piece of fried patty. The steak had good seasoning but the batter really did it no justice. Hashbrowns were average. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and English Muffin was perfectly toasted. I do like that they give you a whopping amount of whipped butter for your toast! The bakery had some good looking pastries. The whole experience reminded me of a piece of Solvang. Great rest stop for something different. Plus, the bathrooms are huge and clean.

Despite there being nobody around, I was required to wait more than 10 minutes while the receptionist Renee had a lovely heart to heart chat with someone on the phone. Even though there was no reason to do that because I arrived before the phone call happened. I was then given a room with nice view of the parking lot thought the hotel was empty. The rooms are on the small side but freshly renovated. It was really like a glorified Motel 6 room. Not much sound proofing and I was glad I remembered earplugs. Overall the place seemed nice enough, especially for its location. It worked for what I needed. Originally I had this at three stars, but I rounded it up to four because after getting over the initial arrival issue the stay was decent.

This visit happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. We had reservations for both Saturday and Sunday, but we stopped in on Saturday to cancel that day's reservation since we'd already eaten lunch and knew we wouldn't be hungry by dinnertime. On Sunday, when we checked in for our reservation, I was impressed -- the hostess remembered us by name, which says a lot considering how many guests come through the restaurant. We were seated, and soon after we were greeted by Eleanor, our server. She was warm, attentive, and never made us feel pressured, which was a huge improvement from a previous visit. She answered every question I had, including how they cook a medium‑rare steak (every chef has their own interpretation, lol). She also gave an honest answer when I asked whether the vegetables used at dinner come from their greenhouse. The service felt genuine, and the food was excellent -- a much better experience than my last review. This visit was absolutely worth the return. Kudos to Eleanor and the Kitchen at The Mission.
