After a long drive from SoCal, we decided to make this place our dinner pit stop. Love that they have a kids menu, which makes it easier to dine with two little ones. My son also specifically requested Alfredo so it's great that they have that on the kids menu! If you're tired of fast food, I highly recommend making this place your lunch or dinner stop. Food comes out fast and service is great. Highlight of our night was when staff handed my kids a small cup of koi food so we could feed the fish before making our way home. We come to Mission de Oro Hotel every year when we're in Santa Nella visiting my mom and dad's gravesite at the National Veterans Cemetery. This visit happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. We had reservations for both Saturday and Sunday, but we stopped in on Saturday to cancel that day's reservation since we'd already eaten lunch and knew we wouldn't be hungry by dinnertime. On Sunday, when we checked in for our reservation, I was impressed -- the hostess remembered us by name, which says a lot considering how many guests come through the restaurant. We were seated, and soon after we were greeted by Eleanor, our server. She was warm, attentive, and never made us feel pressured, which was a huge improvement from a previous visit. She answered every question I had, including how they cook a medium‑rare steak (every chef has their own interpretation, lol). She also gave an honest answer when I asked whether the vegetables used at dinner come from their greenhouse. The service felt genuine, and the food was excellent -- a much better experience than my last review. This visit was absolutely worth the return. We stopped her to get some take-out pizza because we'd been having trouble finding anything gluten-free in the area. We called about 20 mins in advance on our way from Casa de Fruta (where I could eat nothing). We'd never been there, always stopping for a pit-stop at Pea Soup Anderson's when going through that area. So first of all, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the hotel grounds are beautiful, totally unexpected in this middle of nowhere hotel. The outdoor dining area for the restaurant is gorgeous and relaxing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff aware all polite and helpful. I had to wait a bit longer than expected but I grabbed the pizzas and took them to the car and was first of all shocked at how beautiful the pizza was. I got the California veggie pizza without mushrooms and added pepperoni, with gluten free crust. My husband got the same but not gluten free. This was one of the best gluten free pizzas I've EVER had. Everything as clearly freshly made. Amazing. Sad it's so far away from where I live! On the way out I checked out prices for the hotel...about 200 bucks a night. Totally reasonable. We'll be back here next time we're heading through this area! read more

They have done an excellent job refurbishing the restaurant and surrounding area. The service was amazing and the food was really good. I had the poke nachos which had a tad too much wasabi and the chips were a little over fried. We also had the bruschetta which was delicious! We had a wonderful meal and experience at The Kitchen last night. We were seated by the kitchen and felt like we were in an episode of The Bear and we loved every moment! It was so fun to watch the chefs construct their masterpieces and hear "corner" and "behind". Dolly was our server snd she was a 10/10! She made great suggestions, had a fun personality, and definitely made our dinner more enjoyable. The cocktails were amazing! My favorite was the blood orange margarita. It tasted like I was biting into a juicy orange. We had the Bacon Wrapped Filet, The Salmon, and a Pizza. I tried a bite of my husband's filet and it was easily THE BEST filet I had ever had. We stopped here for breakfast on our way from the Bay Area to Los Angeles while charging our car. When we arrived, we realized it's a restaurant inside a hotel. We ordered the Brussels Sprouts appetizer which was delicious. My husband had the seafood pasta and I did the apple/walnut salad. The setting is absolutely beautiful. It's in a lovely location that feels like a peaceful escape, even if you're just passing through. Classic jazz/swing plays throughout the speakers. There's a bar/lounge through a door and you can see a part of the kitchen upon entrance. Dinner - 4/5 stars Highlights: - Tomahawk steak, while pricy, is so good! We love the roasted whole garlic and accoutrement it comes with. - Bruschetta is a must-order for us. Notes: - You can request to take the tomahawk bone home lol Sunday Brunch Buffet - 3/5 stars Highlights: - Felt classier than your typical buffet with spaced out buffet stations. - Service was amazing as usual! Shouts to Maritza who served us and was so nice and kind throughout. - Prime rib was pretty good! - Crab legs, although not my personal favorite (too much work), are included in the buffet Notes: - Price at the time of review is around $42 per person. Another nice meal at The Kitchen. The food was solid and the service excellent. The price point is a little high, but you get a quality meal that makes it worth it. We started the meal with some deep fried asparagus and calamari. It was a good start. My friend had the pork chop meal and he said it was excellent. My wife had the chicken piccata, she said it was alright, but didn't care for the breading. My friend's wife had a dirty martini, dinner salad and the Tomato Bisque soup and enjoyed it. I had the Santa Maria Tri-Tip Sandwich. It was on a fresh Dutch Crunch roll...Yummmm. The caramelized onions and mushrooms really allowed the sandwich to pop. Literal onsite greenhouse to table food in a mission style hotel in Santa Nella. It seems so random, but this place is a gem! Hotel Mission de Oro has an interesting history in itself which make the grounds so unique. But back to The Kitchen! The food is modern California cuisine which means it is a fusion of foods with lots of fresh greens and fruits. The servers were all so friendly and kind, that you almost want to order more! The California Pasta didn't have any meat, but really didn't need it with how tasty the vegetables were. The fish all tasted like it was caught fresh in the morning albeit this place is inland on the single road that passes through the city. They have outdoor seating so it is dog friendly and they have charging stations in a huge parking lot. There used to be stores on site, but only the Wine Museum, hotel, The Kitchen and the Lounge are left. I hope they build it out to make it a one stop shop when you're on that long road trip on the 5 freeway on your way to Sacramento. I have been here a couple of times, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times it was pretty empty and we were seated immediately. It's a cute spot with both seating indoor and outside. Where do I begin...couple hours ago I was still driving down the scenic 97 from Bend, Oregon, carrying with me a load on my rig from Tree Top Apple Juice, of Selah Washington. Couple hours later, having taken the majestic scenery of Mt Shasta and Klamath National Forest, I find myself back here in Santa Nella of all places, saying f*ckit to returning to Los Angeles-- I'm taking a seat at the The Kitchen Restaurant in the historic Mission De Oro. And how that turned out to be a rather good decision after all. I'm going to start by saying I'm normally not a fan of bread or anything sweet in particular. I ended up finishing a whole basket, and an entire creme brulee. It's just when you have a bottle of Enzo branded Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Enzo Balsamic's vinegar, it's hard to pass up that kinda combination with such fluffy bread. Everything about the Mission is classic. The Frank Sinatra songs, Michael Bublee, the Spanish Colonial Style architecture, the Neoclassicism, yes even though I'm a trucker, I have taken Art History some 20 years ago so touche. You can't just sit down and not love the place. Which it explains why despite Santa Nella looking like some of the less appealing parts of Ciudad Juarez....this little sanctuary is an immediate escape from all that stress outside called Long Haul trucking. And I'm one of the lucky ones for taking that time off and venturing off to this piece of paradise. So the food, yes we all want to know what the food was like. I ordered there Oktober special, Filet Mignon wrapped in Bacon, paired with Mashed Potatoes, Kale & Yams. I'm not going to lie, the Filet Mignon brought me to tears. Every mouthful, every bite the texture, the tenderness, the medium-rareness, everything about the Filet Mignon was perfect to the tee. The red wine reduction demiglace didn't over power the meats, the sauteed pan fried lightly seasoned kale, the yams, the pea sprouts, Everything fused together and brought about one of the best experiences I've had with steak in recent memory. You, know, trucking across the lower 48, you just don't run into this level of nuance, meticulousness. I felt like the entire kitchen staff was at the top of their game, and they were here to cook up something they'd be proud of. Quality meat, quality technique, but maybe I'd cut out the bacon though, was a rather odd pairing. Everything else made perfect sense. For soup, I started with the French Onion Soup; it tilted towards the sweeter side, but nevertheless, was good, although I preferred if they could have gone harder on the Cabernet or Sauvignon Blanc, a little more of alcohol to taste, but the cheese, french bread, everything was baked to perfection, the thyme didn't over power. For appetizers, I ordered the fried Brussel Sprouts with bacon bits; I think stand alone without the chipotle dip, the brussel sprouts were seasoned enough and didn't need any enhancements. Now, having finished the bread, the soup, the Main Entree, I was presented a Dessert menu. Might as well, and with Madison's recommendation, I went with their creme brulee, and a single shot of espresso. The brulee, was evenly torched down with a very thin layer of brown sugar. I was expecting since most American restaurants serve outlandishly "sweet" desserts, I was probably going to take a bite or two and not finish the serving. It very well surprised me, that custard, vanilla beans and hint of sugar wasn't overwhelming--when complemented together with the bitterness of the espresso, this was the perfect combination to end tonight's meal and send myself on the way back to LA. So what's my verdict of The Kitchen? The service was excellent, the atmosphere elegant, you know, I'm sitting here and I just don't want to return to that rig of mine parked next door at the Rotten Robbie's Truck Stop. But all good things have to come an end, and if only I had Dorothy's magical red slippers, I too wish I could just say, "I wish I was Home," and poof, I don't need to drive my semi truck another 300 miles or so back home. As far as the food it is delicious but the service can very much improve. This was our second time coming here. Last time we went here was 2 years ago with my in-laws. Started a bit rocky b/c the server dropped a drink on the table which splattered my mother in law and that spilled everywhere. Other than that the food was great. The drinks took a few minutes to arrive but they made their way to us. When we got them, our server took our entree order. We both got the New York steak. Our appetizer never arrived. Before we knew it our entrees were at the table. By then we were very upset. I always try to show the benefit of the doubt and be kind to our servers, I had told myself that if the appetizer came out shortly after our entrees I wouldnt say anything but it never arrived. When the server came to ask how everything was going, I let her know that our appetizer never arrived and wanted for her to take it off our ticket. She apologized and said she didn't know what happened. Which I thought was a little weird given that she was our server. She came back a few minutes later and said someone took our appetizer? Like who?? She apologized and said she removed it and since that happened they offered a free dessert. Which was nice but I much rather would have had the appetizer that we were excited to try since we wanted to try something new. Later on a lady by the name Monica came to our table. I'm unsure if she was a manager or supervisor but she asked how everything went. I told her okay, wasn't going to say anything else but she noticed the way I said ok and she asked me to please tell her if anything went wrong. So then I told her about the glass and our appetizer not coming but said it was okay. She said she would talk to our server to see what happened. We both told her it was okay and understood that things happen. When the server brought our check it was clear she had been talked to about this because she now acted a bit standofish. Like I said earlier: food was great. Service needs work. It sucks that it seems like the kitchen is doing everything right but the service put a damper on our experience. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time. Just never got around to it. Most especially have seeing all the renovations over the years. Finally made it happen as it was our anniversary and didn't want to drive very far. This place is right off the freeway. Lots of parking WITH brand new Tesla charging stations. The restaurant is tucked inside the quad of what used to be an old Mission. Along with indoor seating there is also patio seating under an awning and next to a small pond. We had reservations for 7:30 and there was a light breeze, and the sun was working its way down, so we opted for the patio. There was actually quite a crowd of people. The quad of the mission is so green, and you almost forget you are in the middle of nowhere. Husband ordered their 16 oz prime rib that came with a loaded baked potato and broccoli. I ordered their filet and crab legs that came with broccoli and mash. We both agreed that both steaks were well seasoned and a perfect medium. Lots to take home. Prices were decent. Tons of charging stations and a great lounge in which to bide your time. The menu is varied. Lots of steaks, pasta, salads. They are all delicious. Great chefs here. I'm extremely disappointed with my recent experiences at Mission Kitchen. This is now the third time I've come in and had the same interaction with Brandi at the front. Unfortunately, her attitude and customer service continue to be very unwelcoming. The person greeting and checking in guests sets the tone for the entire experience, and Brandi comes across as rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. When explaining wait times and how many people are ahead, her tone feels more discouraging than helpful, almost as if she is trying to convince customers not to stay rather than welcoming them. I'm not sure why someone with this type of attitude is placed in a front-facing customer service position. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because the food and atmosphere can only go so far when the first interaction a customer has is negative. We ate here several times during the course of our stay and I have only good things to say mostly. The staff is super friendly & the food is fresh tasting and presentation is superb. We sat inside in the chefs lounge room which reminds me of a cross between a library and a museum. Very nice. The house wine was very tasty & so was the water. Their chicken piccata dish was very good. Didn't care for the pizza much cause it had too much cheese. We enjoyed their salad and bread basket as well. The chicken piccata dish was our fav. We got the california penne pasta in the pesto sauce and it was fine. My boyfriend got the Seafood pasta marina and it was delicious 10/10 recommend, I will definitely go back for it. After several years and multiple trips on I-5, The Kitchen is the place I attempt to find time to stop for a good meal and avoid fast food. I have not tried every item on the menu but I will say I had the best rib eye steak ever. The breakfasts are also very good. The servers are friendly and helpful for indecisions. read more
