Wow, what an insane park! This park is HUGE!!!! The playground is awesome and it's unlike any other playground I've seen. It has the usual stuff like slides and swings but everything just looked really bright and colorful with few other added amenities. The swing for little kids is a recliner style swing which I haven't seen at any other playgrounds. My only concern is they don't have a strap so kids may fall out if they swing too wide and don't hold on to anything. There are latches for a strap but looks like they were either removed or never installed. I'm not sure if Tewinkle Park is a consolidation of multiple parks in this area or if each one is a separate park but I saw few other parks right next to it. There's a skate park and a dog park which are close, but do not overlap into this park. According to the City of Costa Mesa website, TeWinkle Park is named after Charles TeWinkle, who was the first elected mayor of Costa Mesa in 1953. The park has numerous amenities including baseball field, 12 tennis courts, amphitheater, lake/water falls, 30 picnic tables, two softball fields, basketball court, and few others. Even though it's a huge park, it's somewhat hidden and little tricky to get to as it runs along the side of the 55 freeway. Unless you're actively looking for it you will most likely not notice it. Such a beautiful park! Ample parking, clean bathrooms, picnic tables and plenty of space to keep socially distanced and still enjoy the quiet of nature. From geese to ducks to squirrels, there is lots of wildlife here, and of course lots of poop on the sidewalk because of it. Even so, the landscaping is gorgeous and makes it a lovely place to go for a stroll when you're itching to get outdoors! read more

Beautiful park with littles lakes, lots of ducks/geese, squirrels, a big hill, and a fairly big playground. I went on a Monday and it was so crowded. If you're just going for a walk it was comfortably crowded. The playground was very full. None of the parents were wearing masks- maybe they are all vaccinated? If you're trying to distance, this playground might nit be for you. Fortunately my son enjoyed climbing the hill and exploring. read more

A trip to California for the weekend landed us in need of one last adventure for my daughter - after Yelping "parks" in the area Tewinkle popped up and we took a chance. A thin white coat & a practically hairless belly makes sunburning an everyday concern especially on a beautiful summer day. If a dog develops skin cancer it will typically appear on his nose & the tops of the ears. Dogs can easily become overheated so try & keep them as hydrated as possible and be aware of how hot the ground is, especially black asphalt; it can burn their pads. Another thing to be aware of is that a dogs body is closer to the ground which means that the heat rising off the concrete is going to affect them much more than you or I. 'Just a couple of notes to help keep your four legged friends safe during the summer. In the rear of the park sits a greenbelt, a perfect place to run the dog; lots of open space; away from the playground and lake area. At the center of the park is a pine tree covered hill with a winding path to the top. It's as if you've been transported to the forest amongst boulders and not in a city. For kids & adults, this would be a great place to explore; maybe enjoy a book or do absolutely nothing @ all and just "be." Note: There is a homeless element present with quite a few living in their vehicles in the parking lot and near the street; be vigilant of your surroundings, always. There's plenty to do here. Such beautiful scenery to walk or have a picnic, there's a pond with ducks and turtles, a good sized playground, and even a skate park. I had not heard of this park before, and after my visit recently, I had such a good time I was a bit disappointed to be so late in experiencing it. It is huge! I love the mini water falls, lakes, ducks, geese and turtles. There is plenty of shade and trees, a playground, hiking trails and more. I think water and nature lovers will be most pleased here, but there seems to be something for everyone to enjoy. There was a sign in the parking lot to wear face coverings. Many people had them on. Most people who weren't wearing one (it was a very hot day), did so when they came within 10 feet or greater than others, but the majority of people just generally kept their distance and were well over 30-50 ft away from one another, quietly enjoying their time with their families. I went on a weekday, late afternoon and felt safe being there. It was not crowded during my visit. It was a peaceful and refreshing outing. I will be back next time I am in the area. read more

Beautiful park. Easy parking. Bring some bread and feed the ducks with your kids!!! I like the bouncy foam that they have for this playground. The city keeps up with the maintenance of the place because I've seen them cut some out and places foam back in. The play area has canopies so u will have some shade for the little ones. But always check the equipment as our weather heats up... the slides, the swings, and etc can heat up and burn skin. It's nice to walk around this area as well. But beware of duck poop! There's a cool pond and a waterfall. Nice area to take photos... ;) Enjoy. It's near the fairgrounds. So it's another place to let the kids play...;) read more

Couldn't believe that I lived so close to this park. I didn't notice this park, until I randomly saw a flock of geese! Excited, I turned around and parked there. My friends and I fell in love when we saw how many geese and ducks were there and the gorgeous lake and little waterfall. Now, most times I go, I'll bring bread for them. They love it! You become famous when you hold the loaf. It's like the paparazzi is after you for that perfect pic. They'll run you down. It's also perfect for walking. Usually a couple laps around is a mile. There's even a small hill to burn some extra calories. Love it for walking. Perfect for birthday parties, family gatherings, and a place just to relax. I've also seen families getting their photos shot here! Perfect park for kids, too. read more

This park is disgusting. There's literally swarms of bugs everywhere and duck poop (can't blame them that's just mother nature!). There's so many ducks so if your dog isn't good with small animals.. don't bring them here. But the lakes are super pretty. I would have enjoyed it more if the park was not disgusting! read more

Wow, two great finds in one day. After we went on an awesome boat ride in Newport Beach, we wanted to get some energy out before the long car trip back to Santa Monica. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, we came here and were in park heaven! Here's what I saw: - Baseball diamonds - Skate park - Waterfalls - Lake with ducks / birds - Boulders - Walking trails - Playground I'm sure I missed more. This place just went on forever. My family and I love this park- we've even thrown bday parties for the kids here. Love feeding the ducks and walking on the little paths. Only downside is that the bathrooms are never clean. Also, be sure that you write your name on sandbox toys. We've had a few taken. read more

It's a very well designed park that has a place for geese to live (they have a man made lake and water fountain spouts) I really enjoy coming here to meditate or to bring my dog to the park to play with all his neighborhood friends! read more

The only downside to this park is having to watch parents that haven't or don't pay attention to their child(ren). With that aside, you can find some awesome parents there as the park itself is just great and is a great magnet for all sorts of people. most people, i assume, come to the playground area with their children, and thats where this park is better than most. the playground is modern with a large play area with little obstruction. there are swings and a sand pit with some sort of structure in the middle which seems to serve no real purpose except to give a mediocre amount of shade. if you bring toys, expect other kids to come up and just start playing with them. youll also notice that if the parent doesnt come up and have the child ask to use the toys, that parent isnt watching their child - or just doesnt care how their child is behaving. it happens alot, so either keep the toys close and kick the bad kids in the face, or put lo-jack on em to find em later. there are also some parents that have set up clubs or whatever, like "mom's with strollers working out and stuff." all-in-all this park is fan-tas-tic. read more

Nice little park for all the kids that dont want to get lost or don't want to walk too much just to get back to the car. It's got a nice pond with lots of ducks and plenty of sitting benches. This park just got remodeled within the last year. The playground is a lot more modern than before the remodelings. There's lots of grills for picnics and bbq's. Its not a sport's park, so no volleyball nets, bball courts or a soccer/baseball field. But there sure is a lot of shade to hang out at. read more

Love this park!!! Lots of parking plus street parking. Lots of nice trees, a little waterfall & several separated little pools with lots of ducks. There are bridges & a cool area of a bunch of rocks on a small hillside. Some squirrels live in a few of the holes by those rocks. There's also a large playground area...didn't go by there though cuz the pup hates kids. Great large grassy areas & lots of shade. There are restrooms too that are cleaner than what you usually see at a park. They are across the street of the main park...just next to a skate park which is just next to the dog park. read more

Hehe. Name makes me giggle every time. This is a fantastic kid spot. Mr. Tewinkle is like Willy Wonka. Such wonders at every turn. And everything provided. From sports fields to sand pit excavations. For a full recon, climb the hilltop where ducks and photographers cluster, and Latina brides or Quinceañera beauties frolic in 87-pound ball gowns. Some aspects of the park are getting old and weary, but it is kept nice enough for casual parties. Security guards walk their beat by the playground. This huge park is just next door to the OC Fairgrounds, so you can escape the swap-meet insanity. My favorite part is the haven of hundreds of squirrels, who live like hobbits in the hillside. read more

Great park for families! I was in charge of niece babysitting duties one afternoon and I asked where we should go that was pretty close to South Coast Plaza but also not so crowded and safe. A friend suggested this park, as it has plenty of parking, ducks in the pond, and a great play structure area for kids to run around. When we got there I could see why it has such great reviews! We mainly played by the play structure and we set up ground rules (must hold hands outside of the squishy floor zone). I liked that there were swings big enough for kids and adults so that everyone can participate at the playground instead of just watching as the kids play. My niece is scared of the monkey bars and anything that requires your feet leaving something with structural integrity so we stuck to the main structures. She was pretty impressed that auntie could still hang upside down from the tall bars - only for a short while though! We had a great time running around and getting energy out here before moving on to crafting activities. This adult is looking forward to returning to this park! read more

Stopped by there to eat lunch with my gf and walk the dog. Nice park! It has a small pine forest on a hill, 2 duck ponds, and a big playground for the kids. Bathrooms were in good repair and overall the park was clean and well-kept, all except for one section that looked like it used to be a cascading river from the top of the hill. Tewinkle park is the closest park to our home. There are a lot of things we come here for. Obviously, the playground is really nice. They have swings, bars, slides, benches, tables, and a sandbox. It's a good place to have a picnic on the grass under the shade. There is a bathroom that's close to the playground. They don't have soap though. You can walk your dog, exercise, bring a soccer ball, or a football. My kids bring their scooter and they love riding it there. You can also host outdoor birthday parties. They have a large area with 6 tables. They have a duck pond there. There's always people there taking family or wedding photos. The scenery is appropriate for pictures. Parking has never been an issue. I love this park! read more

Went here for the Bark Park when Goofy started pulling us towards the other side of the park (where the playground is). We went up a hill with tall trees which led us to a hidden, beautiful lake full of ducks, surrounded by happy families enjoying their Saturday afternoon. You get a nice 360 view of the park, overseeing the skate park, playground, baseball fields, and lakes. When you follow the stream down, you'll find two lakes separated by a walk path. It was a nice stroll so bring your loved ones because it's a great place to share the experience with! read more

We stumbled on this park while looking for the skate park. It was clean with a nice walk path, a man made lake with ducks and a waterfall, there were squirrels running from tree to tree, and even a gangster squirrel that chased my 5'10" 249lb. son! The playground was nice and the parents were supervising their children. It was a terrific and unexpected discovery. Not crowded and there's a sports complex across the street. read more
