The only problems we have had are with the office staff. My husband was added to my insurance at the beginning of this year. He came in this week for a required follow up appointment to refill a prescription. He gave them his new insurance card, and was told that this visit fell under the 1 year pre-existing condition part of our benefits, and these visits wouldn't be covered until Jan 15, 2015. It's about $100 a visit without insurance, and I just spent $400 backdating his insurance to start Jan 1, 2014. So I called my insurance company.. surely a general well visit to refill an anxiety prescription he's been taking for over 4 years now should be covered, right? My insurance company said this was what they considered just a regular office visit and all we should have to pay is $35 co-pay. They also stated there were no stipulations or provisions on our policy pertaining to his anxiety medicine, which we disclosed in his application with his medical history, that would consider this a pre-existing condition. I asked them what I should do next, and they said to call the Dr. office and have them call the insurance company. She said anyone there would tell their office the same thing she told me. My husband had already left the office at this point because we didn't want to pay out of pocket for the appointment when we have insurance. So he called back and told the Dr office to call the insurance company. She said she already had and that they did not know what they were talking about because they didn't have my husband's medical history. Since she was so uncooperative, I tried to call myself. She refused to speak with me, insisting I was not authorized in the matter. Even though it is MY insurance plan and I am his WIFE. My husband had to call and give them permission to speak with me (even though I am pretty sure he filled out a form saying it was okay to release his patient information to his wife - they didn't bother to check his file for that paper). She finally called me back and went on to tell me she had been dealing with insurance for many years now and she knows that this will be considered pre-existing. She also said that the insurance company was wrong because a claim would have to be filed before they could determine whether this was just a general office visit or a pre-existing condition. In that case, wouldn't you treat it as a general office visit at the co-pay amount, and then bill us if the insurance later decides it is considered pre-existing? That's how every doctor, specialist, etc. I've ever seen has done things. She said they have an office policy that they won't do that. So I let her know that is very unfortunate because now Dr. Muñoz would be losing a patient. We very easily called another Dr. in our network, they got us on the books for today, and assured me we would only have to pay the co-pay, and that she had also been dealing with insurance for many years and had never seen a prescription follow-up appointment fall under pre-existing condition clauses. She asked that we do call Dr. Muñoz office to have them fax over his lab work so they didn't have to do it all over again.. which was another pain in the butt! We called them for 2 days straight and got a recording every time, until today. She said because this wasn't a referral from Dr. Muñoz, but rather us choosing to see another doctor, we had to go to the new doctor's office and sign a consent form that they then had to fax over to Dr. Muñoz before they would even send it over. Even though my husband was giving verbal consent to have the records sent over. It was just routine blood work results that they were asking for. She said every doctor's office does it this way, even though our new doctor is an example to the contrary. Our new doctor office tried calling for the results and got the same hassle we did. She asked that in the meantime, before sending the consent form, can they just tell her what blood work they did so their office would know what to draw for his appointment today. They got put on hold for a long while and no one ever picked up. She called back and the lady in Dr. Muñoz office told her that she was too busy with a patient. This was just an overall nightmare of an experience and they really didn't try to work with us or make anything easier because they thought they knew better than us and the insurance company. It was a lot of unnecessary stress and last minute scrambling that we had to do. I feel bad that Dr. Muñoz had to lose a patient, one that had been paying out of pocket without insurance for almost 2 years no less, just because his staff insisted on making everything so difficult.

His bedside manner is some of the best I have experienced. I really like the fact that it is a small office, without the labs on-site. All other offices I have been to with these types of facilities, tend to run up my bill with needless test since they pocket all the money. The online appointment/record system they use is great as well. I can usually get a same day appointment without hassle. Definitely checkout Dr. Munoz if you are looking for a new doctor!

The good old days when WC didn't just try to give you Drugs to dull the pain from one of the WC Doctors. Dr Stiegler referred me to a great PT, and got me back to full use of my back without severe pain. I managed to work for another 15 years until retirement age, My back is manageable today. As good as it could be with a degenerative disc. No surgeries even today. I thank God I had a excellent caring Doctor, and it happened before WC got screwed up by the State. I had to move my Mom down to Austin in the 1990's and Doctor Stiegler was her Doctor for 20 years until she passed at 100 years old. Dr. Stiegler cared for her wonderfully. Helping her with referrals to great Doctors when needed.

I opted for the laparoscopic surgery option and scheduled the surgery. While doing this, the staff noticed I had not met my deductible for the current year and were able to move my surgery up so it would be 100% covered instead of taking a hit early in the year. On the day of surgery Dr Meynig and the staff did an excellent job of making me feel comfortable and explaining all the steps and procedures. During the surgery he found an abnormality and was able to remove it safely and complete the hernia repair. They also did an excellent job of keeping my girlfriend updated during the procedure. I decided to travel from Houston to Austin to have the procedure with Dr. Cherico, who removed my brother's gallbladder a little over 5 years ago. What a wonderful experience! His "bedside manner" is exceptional; he is funny, easy-going, and informative. More importantly, he must be an expert surgeon! My recovery was SO easy (it was harder getting over the flu!). I was worried about the pain from the gas after surgery, but I had ZERO problems. Incision sites look wonderful---the three above my belly button have healed completely and the scars are nearly invisible. He did a wonderful job and I am so glad that I chose him!

Hence, I was urged by the phone staff to see his PA Debbi Winder instead, so I finally did and I did not have a good experience with her. When all I needed was a basic bloodwork panel and prescription, she was upbeat, warm and caring. However, that initial 'glow' faded fast when I was suffering from an exacting medical issue. I had a severe case of anemia, that was *glaringly obvious* on my lab results, which she reviewed. Over several (expensive) consultations with her, she seemed to 'miss' that as a source of my problems, as she never addressed it medically, expressed concern about how severely anemic I was, or attempted to correct the condition. Moreover, she seemed annoyed, impatient, and put out by the inconvenience of my more pressinga and distressing medical issues. They do *not* take medical insurance and the fees per hour are high! You can submit your receipt on your own to your insurance company (they don't handle any insurance forms) to be reimbursed for whatever your insurance may pay. There was a time when I did recommend Dr. Manzanero, but after my last few and final experiences at his practice and with his PA, I no longer feel I can.

I've had intimate dealings with CEO's and Presidents of large corporations who are "just regular guys". On the other hand, I've been subjected (by themselves) to egotistical "nouveau riche" characters who think (OK, I'll put it POLITELY) that their "excrement doesn't smell" (but you know how it's normally said, doncha?). You know what DOES impress me? People who are THE BEST AT WHAT THEY DO, THE BEST IN THEIR FIELD. Why do I take the time to mention all of this? Because Dr. Umesh Gadaria is the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS: a "regular guy" who is the best there is. And that impresses me MOST OF ALL. I currently have a thumb wound that is being obnoxious, and won't go away like it's supposed to. So my first stop was to Pro Med, where the attending physician (we'll call him "Kid Doc") told me he'd never seen anything like it, and obviously had no clue as to what to do about it. So, whaddaya do when ya got no clue? You start spending your patient's money on stuff that's completely "non sequitur", like "taking X-rays, to see if you have any bone issues." BONE ISSUES? Yep, that's what he said. I'm not a doctor, but when you've got a FLESH wound and the Dr. clearly doesn't know what he's doing, why do you need your BONES CHECKED? Another thing I can't stand is people agreeing to pointless tests, whether they have insurance or not (actually, ESPECIALLY if they do). You need to be an INFORMED and EMPOWERED PATIENT. If a Doctor orders a test that's clearly "off-point", OVERRULE him; it's your body, it's your money, and you have the right. Needless to say, that's what I did. Kid Doc attempted to get me so alarmed that I'd go to the ER IMMEDIATELY; that's what he suggested. Again, I'm not a Doctor, but I DO know the difference between something immediately life-threatening and something that can be given time to heal. The ONE thing "Kid Doc" DID do right is refer me to Dr. Gadaria. Without exception, EVERYONE at Pro Med had nothing but the highest praise for this guy. Since he (Kid Doc) DID prescribe me some antibiotics, I opted to take 'em over the weekend (this was a Sat morning) and make an appointment with Dr. Gadaria on Monday, which is what I did. Ah, where do I begin regarding Dr. Gadaria? Let's start with his Waiting Room; HE DOESN'T NEED ONE. Why, you ask? Because I was shown to an exam room ON TIME! A Doctor who says "show up at 11:30", and actually sees you AT 11:30? Man, what a CONCEPT! So, at exactly 11:30, this guy comes to the door ya go through to get to the exam room and escorts me back. When we get there, HE DOESN'T LEAVE. Why? Because "the guy" IS DR. GADARIA. Dr. G employs no nurses; he does all the preliminary stuff HIMSELF. Not only does this undoubtedly cut down on his operating "overhead", but nothing gets lost in the translation, since he's the ONLY one you talk to about your health issue. Regardless of the Profession, I like a guy who has a "hands-on" approach. Very early on, he makes it clear that he's not gonna do anything unnecessary, in regard to tests or prescriptions. Insurance money, or money coming directly out of your pocket, it's SOMEBODY'S money, and he recognizes that. You folks that don't worry about needless tests when you go to the Dr cuz you're "not paying for it", due to your insurance? You need to realize you're contributing to your OWN higher premiums down the road. One way or another, ya ALWAYS pay for it. I encourage you all to be proactive in your health care. If you have doubts about a particular test or procedure, ASK WHY YOU NEED IT. Some doctors don't like it when the PATIENT starts "calling the shots", and those are the very doctors I try to avoid. Dr G also reinforced my decision to NOT have the X-Ray done, and to NOT go to the ER. He's not an "old" man, but he's probably been practicing medicine as long as Kid Doc has been ALIVE. Absolutely no question who I'd put more trust in, all things considered. To sum up: From the way he staffs his office, to the personalized service, to his "bedside manner", to his professionalism, my experience with Dr. Gadaria was first-rate, from start to finish. I give him the highest possible rating and endorsement. I almost wish I'd have another health-related issue that would require that I go back again. I said ALMOST! And Dr. Gadaria PROVES that you don't have to be a POMPOUS ASS to be a well-respected doctor, or well-respected in whatever YOUR calling is in Life.
