I am writing to share my concern about my recent appointment experience. I contacted your office because I needed help scheduling my dental exam and cleaning due to my limited time before travel. Instead of feeling helped or understood, I felt that I was treated in a rude and dismissive way, as if I did not understand what was being explained to me. Later, my appointment was canceled without receiving confirmation from me first. I understand that emergencies can happen, but I was not able to check my phone or email during the day. When I arrived at the office, I was again met with an unhelpful and rude attitude. Because of this situation, I lost valuable time and was left without enough time to schedule my cleaning somewhere else before my travel. This was a very disappointing and stressful experience. I believe no customer or patient should be made to feel this way. I hope this situation will be reviewed and that communication and customer service can be improved. read more

Been going here since I was in middle school, Recently went again and had a terrible experience, the past two times I went here I was dismissed and given terrible service. I figured maybe the dentist was having a bad day but I decided to check the reviews and WOW. I had no idea I had been going to one of the lowest rated dental offices in the area but I certainly had that feeling! The staff are dismissive, they don't care about your time or you at all. Did I mention after going there for 18 years when I called to set the appointment they told me I had never been there before because if I did they would have my records... Yep they lost all of my records. They insisted I was confused, I got my wisdom teeth taken out there for cripes sake! I had a very disappointing experience at Hill Country Dentists. I spent nearly two hours in the office and did not see a hygienist or dentist for the first hour. When the dentist finally came in, the exam lasted only a few seconds before I was told everything looked fine. I was then informed they might not even be able to complete a cleaning due to scheduling issues. The entire visit felt disorganized and unprofessional. I understand delays can happen, but the lack of communication and minimal time spent with the patient was unacceptable. I will not be returning. read more

I had the worst experience twice here. Noe the General manager is not professional and very condescending. He refused to make me a cleaning appointment after Dr. Archung who did x rays and exam told me I needed a deep cleaning. I have never been told this and get my teeth cleaned twice a year. He wouldn't schedule my cleaning even after they charged my insurance for it. My husband and son were happy with Dr. Vetter but she has since quit. Our family will not be back to this place. So this was my 1st visit at this practice. I made an appt for a cleaning. I was never advised that the cost would ever be more than the standard cleaning fee of approx $150. When I arrived I was taken back and the girl immediately started taking a bunch of X-Rays. I assumed this was just part of their normal cleaning process. Then I was told that there was not a hygienist there that day and I would need to make a 2nd appt for the cleaning. I reiterated that I had made this appt for the cleaning and I really needed it to be done today. So the dentist actually did the cleaning. Everything seemed to go normal from then on. I paid $145 upon leaving thinking this was the totality of my bill. Today I received a new bill for $341.00. Making the total visit now $486.00. Thats alot for a cleaning ! I noticed they even charged me $115 for a floride varnish when I told her I didn't need it as I have all veneers. Anyway I now feel like I was scammed and will never go back to this office. I would say make sure you find out exactly what they are going to charge you upfront as they seem to exploit their services. read more

TERRIBLE experience at Hill Country Dentists. They churn people in and out, trying to upsell as much as possible. And if/when you complain about waiting over an hour to be seen (despite their strict 'you better not be even 10 minutes late' policy) or if you don't readily agree to "extras", they decline to treat you in the future. They also don't stand by their services or fix issues that were due to their work. The dentists have their office staff make those uncomfortable calls and cancellations and they aren't great at it. All around unprofessional. Beware. If your insurance forces you to go to a place like this, find another, drive a little farther, save yourself the time, trouble, and $. read more

I was so excited to find an available dentist that was in network, however... a cleaning that should have been 100% covered by Cigna was $200+. Do yourselves a favor and review their treatment plan before agreeing to anything. Several reasons for this review: one of the hygienists came across condescending and almost bullying me into dropping an additional several hundred dollars on a laser treatment in my cleaning. Additionally, "hygiene education" on the cleaning treatment plan consisted of about 20 seconds of reinforcing my prior use of sonicare and waterpik brushing and flossing, and was on the invoice at $100. Finally, I was recommended an extraction and implant procedure, and the conscious sedation (two melatonin gummies and a Valium) was nearly $600 on the treatment plan. Get real. After the consultation I was still left scared and confused by what to expect for this procedure and recovery, in addition to bracing for a total $12,000 bill. I took my business elsewhere and would recommend the same to anyone expecting a reasonable and reassuring dentist visit. read more

The dentist discriminated against me and didn't even try to be professional about it. I hate to do it but I am thinking about filling a compliant. It is really sad that a provider can't treat people with kindness. I had gone there for years and I guess they never read my medical chart. He has nice, so nice I even had my daughter go there. I felt really comfortable and it is hard for me to feel comfortable with my medical condition. Then last visit I saw him read it because it is literally on top of your face while you're in the chair and everything changed. He stopped immediately stopped being nice and just hurried through visit. I went today for my 6 month check up and he didn't even come in the room. The hygienist said he would come and the a few moments later they came in and said I could go. It is clear he doesn't want me to come back. It is just so sad. To make it worst the hygienist was very rude to my daughter and he pretended he didn't remember working with her on kind of a major treatment plan. One that involved him and her orthodontist. We will not be going back and honestly I can't recommend this place to anyone. The fact that I was going there for years and he never read my chart is horrifying but to then blatantly discriminate against me is just not ok. read more

Zero stars. And this is coming from a long time patient. Take my advice - confirm with your dental insurance that the fees you are being charged for dental services here are in fact the appropriate amount. Hill Country Dentists has been mine and my husband's dental provider for several years now. After a recent check up and cleaning, I was given a $2000 treatment plan by the office manager, Jenny. When I raised an eyebrow and said that sounds awfully expensive for the work I need done and can we double check these figures, I didn't realize I would be unleashing 3 months of back and forth nonsense that would eventually go nowhere. My dental insurance has spoken to the office manager and informed her that the fees they are trying to charge me are incorrect. The work I need done should cost no more than $450. Not $2000. That's a $1500 discrepancy that I expect Hill Country Dentists to at least TRY to explain. They are not interested in advocating for their long time patient or concerned about getting to the bottom of a $1500 discrepancy. And because I've had to deal with my dental insurance so frequently over the past few months due to this discrepancy, it's come to our attention that my husband and I have likely been overcharged for multiple other services rendered by Hill Country Dentists over the years. My insurance provider has shown me how I can file a complaint/investigation about past charges and I will be doing just that. Double check those fees and ask questions! Their staff has treated me like an inconvenience. They implied that I forged a pre-authorization that came directly from my dental insurance. And when I started asking for accountability, the dentist, Dr. Archung, said he was uncomfortable continuing to have me as a patient. HE is uncomfortable? The only people who should be uncomfortable in this situation are me and my husband. I'm uncomfortable knowing that I've likely been overcharged thousands of dollars by this place. I'm uncomfortable knowing that I now need to go find a new provider and start from scratch on dental services that I NEEDED done in July. Periodontist Demitri Villarreal, who performs gum grafting for Hill Country Dentists, is, in my opinion, a terrible doctor. On 6/27/2022, Demitri Villarreal performed gum grafting on me for recession on my lower level, accomplishing absolutely nothing. You can see for yourself as I have attached before and after pictures. The before picture was taken on 6/24/2022, three days before Demitri Villarreal performed the gum grafting, and the after picture was taken 11/4/2022. Moreover, the sensitivity I was feeling with air or liquid is just as bad as it was before Demitri Villarreal performed the gum grafting. When I came in for the follow up appointment, Demitri Villarreal had the nerve to brag about the incision he made on the roof of my mouth. As a result of the surgery that Demitri Villarreal performed on me, I am out the cost of the surgery and the time I had to take off from work to recover. The recovery is two weeks of hell, and now because Demitri Villarreal did such a below standard job, I am going to have to do it all over again. read more

My experience here was harrowing. I experienced poor communication regarding a dentist who left the practice, I only found out about the change in staffing when I followed up for a procedure because the initial crown the first dentist provided was causing me great pain. The initial procedure itself had been extremely rough and painful. Also, this office x rays you every visit, which I do not like. Dr. Diwan took me on and was kind, as are the hygienists. I had to have an additional root canal and crown on the same tooth to stop the pain-this took about a month to resolve from crown 1 to crown 2. Their scheduling is terrible and I had to be a willful advocate for my needs. For example-I had to take off work for the follow up root canal and crown and Hill Country was extremely hesitant to schedule me in the morning. Their reason was they were not sure I would even need the root canal/crown. I did not know (until a colleague told me) that a root canal and a crown are typically performed by 2 different people and are different procedures. I was upset that Hill Country continued to be dismissive of my request for a morning appointment-the procedures ended up taking the full day in the end. If I had submitted the first few times I would have had to take more days off work. Their phone communication is mayhem-I have been contacted by at least 3 different numbers for this 1 office-they have a third party system that muddies up the line of communication. Sometimes the reception desk calls, sometimes the dentist, sometimes the third party. I think this office has promise in the way of friendly staff but I cannot forgive their pain and inconvenience. read more

They were very helpful with signing me up as a new patient, working through the insurance questions, and the care was excellent. In March of this year the female Dentist at this office told me I had two cavities, needed a bridge or transplant on another tooth and a root canal and crown on another tooth. I spend well over two thousand for the root canal and crown. I was planning on a return trip for the rest of the work but decided on a second opinion because of continuing pain from the tooth she worked on. Dentist in the same area of town said the tooth had to be extracted and no work should have been performed in the first place because of bone deterioration. He also stated I only had one other small cavity even after being told about the first Dentist. He pulled the tooth fixed the cavity for well under five hundred. Best dental visit I've ever had in my life!! They were prompt and listened to my every need.

CHECK YOUR INSURANCE! Do not let this office tell you what your insurance will pay. Make them give you an estimate of services and go through the process of receiving a pre-authorization. If they tell you they have confirmed coverage, that is not the same thing. I went in, they explained that they needed to do a few fillings and extensive periodontal cleaning. I knew this would probably be the case and told them that I had received the same periodontal cleaning one year prior. I informed them that I had this done a year ago and that it had required a pre-authorization for a four quadrant cleaning, and they told me they had already verified coverage, so i went ahead with the procedures. At the end, I still paid nearly $900, but I was okay with that. I was glad to have it out of the way. Nearly four months later, I received a notice that I owed an additional $371 because the periodontal work was denied. As it turns out, I can only have this done once every three years. On top of that, the notice was threatening to send me to collections. This was my FIRST notice. When I called to discuss it with them, and informed them that I had informed them that they needed to get a pre-authorization because I had done this one year prior, they told me that was my responsibility. My point is this: do not let them rush you into anything. Do not be afraid to schedule a return trip AFTER you have received pre-authorization. I will pay this bill, and then, I will find a new dentist. This is sad. I really liked the facilities and the dentist. However, that having been said, I will not deal with an office that cannot conduct it's business with a little more competence and integrity than this. read more

I'm giving them 4 stars because over all they are a good office. Read all these reviews though. They do have some issue when it comes to insurance and what they pay and what you pay. Just as everyone of these reviews below, I had issues with the billing and what my portion was as well. Plain and simple, they TRIED overcharging and/or saying our portion to pay was higher than what we knew it to be. Went round and round with Amanda (office manager)but I think we finally have it all straighten out. Amanda btw, is very approachable and though I know I annoyed her to no end a time or two, she was always cool, calm, and collective. Never once raised her voice and ultimately we got the issue ironed out. Just be SUPER careful when dealing with the bill because mistakes will be written off as "accidents". Look it over, once or 10 times, just to be sure. Now on to the dentist himself. AWESOME guy. Takes his time and makes sure you know what you are getting into. Explains it all in detail.Nice guy and simply does a good job. Overall this is a good dentist. They just have a long way to go when it comes to figuring out that they can not keep on trying to overcharge people. if the office's customer service would catch up with the awesomeness of the dentists here, they would stay busy. Word of mouth goes a LONG way, especially in a small town like Bee caves and Lakeway, I really hope they get it together because no one is dumb enough to think that all these reviews, all stating the same exact things were just "accidents". I am so pleased with the service and care I received at Hill Country Dentists in Bee Cave, TX. Dr. Archung is so friendly and was right on time which is rare in dental offices that I have been to in the past. He went over my x-rays and gave a thorough explanation of what needed to be done. The costs and description of all of the procedures were presented clearly. The Hygienist Fariba was so sweet and caring and really made me comfortable during my visit. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. This is the best dental experience I have had in years. So grateful to finally find a dental home in the Lakeway area. read more

Dr. Herman communicated all our treatment options very clearly and did not pressure us to take any particular course of action, but left it up to us. She was informative and personable. Have been using this office for approximately 2 years without issue. Have seen 2 different dentists in the past and was happy with both. Had a scheduled cleaning 6/23 , showed up and was told I had to complete an online chart before seeing the dentist, I had received an email about this, but didn't say it was mandatory, just could use to schedule appointments and see your chart. Asked to speak with the dentist, he came out and was very aggressive saying we can't see you without it done, we need your history"it's the law." The dentist stated it would take me an hour to complete and would not see me without it. They offered for me to complete in the office (didn't have my glasses.) My family and I will find a different dental group going forward. It's sad that they can't use your history from the last two years and make an exception for one visit to have my teeth cleaned, especially since I could give him my history in about 30 seconds. read more

Our son had a cleaning appointment. He drove 3 hours for this appointment to find out all they were doing were X-rays. When I found out he didn't even get his teeth cleaned. They said it was a new patient appointment all they do on the first day is X-rays. They said he had a cavity and wanted to fill it. But claim they didn't have time to clean his teeth. I just called to reschedule an appt for June. The lady on the phone sounded like my 16 yr old niece, nice enough but not very professional. When I asked about dates for rescheduling, she seemed to struggle. I kept having to repeat the date and time. Finally she told me they have nothing available at the time I need for the entire month of June....mind you 5 wks away. She had no phone skills and when I said that I had limited availability, she couldn't work with me, just silence. What happened to great front office staff? When I said that I may need to start looking for a new dentist, she was silent again. OMG lady, you are front office, customer service!! We have hung in there with this place through the revolving door of dentists that seem to come through this place (we have had 3 dentists in 3 yrs...yikes!) but I think we will switch over to another dental practice. read more

I have posted a review before this but it seems to have disappeared. Hill Country Dental WAS a good place before I experienced Dr Amanda Marx. She was sarcastic, lacked empathy, did not seem to care how I was doing during my 3 hours in the chair having a tooth extracted roots DUG out, a bridge removed and a new crown (which I have had to have replaced by a new dentist)seated. I returned to see her about a week later because of the pain I was in and she just said that was normal, "gee I didn't think you'd want to come and see me again so soon" yuk yuk!! I will be filing a complaint with the Texas State Board and my insurance company in the form of a PDP Complaint! Dr Diwan was wonderful, where did he go? I had the exact same high pressure sales experience that Lynsey P. had. I felt totally pressured to "sign up" for their dental plan and was told I needed to be treated for gum desease (my last trip to my old dentist was about 1 year ago, and I had NO signs of gum desease then) and if I signed up my treatments would go from over $2000 to less then $1000....Their ad for $59 for xrays, exam and CLEANING, was a come on. Hill Country Dentist has serious problems in their back-office structure that negatively affects the consumers experience with the dentist and technicians - which are overall quite good. Their business / billing system is apparently set-up to be as confusing as possible to the consumer in the areas of insurance payments / reimbursements. My personal experience was based on efforts to obtain a refund of several hundred dollars of "required" upfront payments for dental services. It turns out these upfront payments were mis-represented by their business manager as my insurer says they apparently not needed. It took me a bit of effort working through my insurance company and the agreed upon payment rates, the lack of detail in billings and the difference in what they said I owed. This refund took efforts over several months and multiple conversations with a difficult back office staff to resolve. Once resolved, they acted like they were doing me a favor to return the over payments. WTH?? For me and my family, there are too many other options for good dental care in Lakeway area to put up with this type of sketchy & questionable business practices. We will not be returning to, nor recommending this dental practice to any friends or neighbors. read more

I made an apt for my son at this dentist, verified with my insurer that we had ins., called booked the appt and receptionist told me that she "thought there was a problem with the insurance the last time" I told her I did not think so and to PLEASE call me back if there was a problem with it. She never called and we drove 25 minutes to appt., only to be told that she could never verify the insurance. We left, I drove home, called our insurance and they assured me that yes he IS insured! What a complete waste of time. They receptionist could not have cared less. Never again. read more

I had been here a few years ago but there is a new dentist and staff. I really appreciate that the diagnosis was honest. A few months ago I went to another dentist in town and they wanted to upsell me on procedures and deep cleanings that I didn't need. The other dentist told me I needed a $1,000 teeth cleaning for many alleged size 8 gum pockets and also needed two crowns. Your office diagnosed size 1-3 pockets, recommended a normal teeth cleaning, and found no need for crowns or fillings. RUN, DO NOT WALK, RUN AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS! From the get-go I was suspicious of the office's business practices as they keep insisting that they put me on my husband's account. We have separate insurance and email addresses and I wanted to keep from getting confused. They keep sending my correspondences to my husband's email. I asked that it be corrected and they said they would but the emails never got to me. They had difficulties filing with my insurer because they refused to do anything that wasn't 'electronic' (company policy I assume). They never sent me an invoice with details and costs, just statements with totals. When asked for an invoice, their insurance girl, Amanda, was sharp tongued, rude and a bully. These are not attributes for a healthy relationship. After Amanda continued to send unfriendly emails and failed to send an invoice I asked for the invoice again and was told I was not using the correct terminology and she wan't going to send me the information I had requested (so I could file the insurance that they refused to file) and she said she would submit to the insurance (finally !) I received the check from the insurance and a few days later receive another 'oh so friendly' email from Amanda threatening me with collections. I finally took a check there as I didn't want her to say it never arrived. A week later I received my first letter from their collections dept. I don't understand how a reputable dental practice can operate like this. There are many fine dental practices already here (from Bee Cave to Steiner Ranch) to choose from but this is not nor will it ever be a place that understands how to treat their patients with respect. read more

I have been to many dentists over the years, and I have to say, this has been my favorite. I live in south Austin and I gladly make the drive to Bee Cave. Their new doctor, Dr. Diwan, is incredibly personable, knowledgeable, and most of all good at what he does. The office staff is excellent and friendly and the Assistant and Hygienist on staff are kind and helpful. I definitely recommend this office to anyone looking for a new dentist. read more
