Why 5 stars? Because they saved my Dad's life. --- --- --- A hospital having a Yelp page is definitely a different ballgame than just about any other kind of business. I'm sure that there are countless others who have lost loved ones at Bay Area Regional Medical Center, and it probably had nothing to do with the doctors/nurses not performing up to a certain standard during their visit. Life's randomness sometimes trumps precision that the most wonderful medical professionals on Earth have to offer. But in our case, BARMC could only be described as a God-send. My dad had a heart attack on Thanksgiving. In an instant, my Dad transformed from the most active 58 year old that anyone knows, to the guy laying on the bathroom floor at the gym with no pulse. My brother was fortunately by his side, and was able to call 911 pretty instantly. The paramedics arrived swiftly and were as efficient as possible in literally bringing him back from the dead. He was then transported to BARMC. He quickly had to have a stent placed in his artery, which went very smoothly. By the time I got into town a few hours later, he was heavily medicated, but still awake and talking. I didn't even know what any of this meant prior to Thursday, but apparently, it was nothing short of a miracle. Not only that he was alive, but that he went from a goner to very normal in a few hours. This is a testament to my dad's excellent shape/conditioning, but I'd imagine all of medical people involved played a role as well :) Where we really began to appreciate BARMC is the quality of care that he received in ICU. All of the nurses/doctors were absolutely phenomenal. Kayla, Natalia, Shelby, Dennis and all of the other names that I'm forgetting - you were all the absolute best. It's amazing that people who work in a place that's filled with so much sadness on a daily basis, could manage to be so cheerful and happy. All of them had the demeanor of people who were on vacation, in that, they were just so happy and joyful. Maybe it was that my dad's story was so amazing, or maybe this place just breeds super heroes. Either way, we loved it. All of these wonderful folks really helped me to put life in perspective. I love my job and always give it my all... but these people literally save lives for a living. Instead of enjoying Thanksgiving with their family, they perform insanely advanced procedures on people, while crying family members wait in the lobby with lives hanging in the balance. Much like folks who join the military, it's a job I could never do, but I'm forever grateful that others can. read more

My dad was in this hospital and too many mishaps to list. It took 48 hours to reconcile his home medications. They never responded to the call button and they employees are smart ass and mock you when you ask for help. I know several people work there and the place is rotten from the top down. Good people will not stick around and it will only get worse until upper management does something to change the culture. The HR department needs to be completely fired and built from the ground up. All the employees seem to be rejects from other hospitals in the area that were willing to accept a lower wage to have free reign to do whatever they want. They do not know how to staff, compensate or develop their employees. You can't teach someone to be a nice human being though. read more

F A I L ****I cannot begin to express my disappointment in this "care facility" for the sub-standard care my mother was given. After having a delicate anterior cervical fusion, she was left for 1.5 hours with NO PAIN MEDICATION.... None... After her surgery. Their "system" failed. She was not admitted and the lax staff did nothing to help speed up the procedure to manage her pain. After a family member started tracking down hospital staff, they finally got her some relief. Imagine having a migraine headache and getting no treatment. That's bad. Now imagine having your neck cut open and your spine worked on and waking up to no pain management. THAT IS INEXCUSABLE. She thought she was having a heart attack because the pain was so severe. Very cruel of them not to break procedure to help their patient that was in extreme pain. Furthermore, the nurses, through the thin walls, expressed irritation that she didn't want a dirty pillow off the hospital floor next to her open wound. REALLY???!? In a world of super-infections, it should have been a part of the nurses job to keep her area as sterile as possible. When she finally got her pain managed, it took 2 HOURS to get her some food. Anything to put in her stomach to balance the high dose of pain meds they injected after leaving her in so much pain. How ironic that they kept asking her if she had allergies and if she was taking ginkgo balboa --- she couldn't TALK. What is the point of pre-registration??!!! As great as her neurosurgeon was, the hospital was his weakest link. While it may have the "shiny and new" facade, inside is a huge disappointment. Danger danger. Stay away. read more

Entirely different experience than my previous ones in California ( mind you, "elite" " state of the art " Hoag establishments & the like. ) First & foremost, the time that it took from check in to discharge was less than 2 hours. That is unheard of. Normally, a visit wouldn't be less than 4 hours regardless of what the ailment was. I had come into the ER with a severe allergic reaction and was seen immediately. Vitals taken, room reserved, and doctor examination within less than 30 minutes of arrival. Normally, I'd be just about finished talking to a receptionist by that time explaining the issue & then another 2 hours before being seen.... I was met with nothing but kindness and compassion. Every nurse, aid, and technician were very friendly & efficient. Knew exactly what they were doing. Did not have to consult with 5 different people before initiating action. My only complaint is the obvious one. When paying fully out of pocket I expect more than 5 minutes with a doctor, and " could be " responses as to what may have caused my reaction. However, I do realize in the ER they are there to treat patients and not run a full diagnostics to investigate the sources. Therefore, it was sufficient. I was given my shots, and on my merry way. Triage: Very caring nurses who did the best they could under the circumstances. Waiting room was packed. ER: A patient arrived who's heart stopped. All hands on deck rushed to his aid. That delayed the rest of us. I was assigned a room in the CCU two hours later. ICU: Very caring nurses who were responsive to my needs. One person who completely went out of their way to make my stay a little better was Doris. She is a nursing assistant. I don't want to take away from the great nurses who took care of me, but she was a stand-out. MRI/Cat scan: Great experience and the techs were very reassuring. Doctors: My hospitalist and G.I. Docs were both very capable docs: (Dr. Remy and Lee) I would take myself to Bay Area Regional again and I recommend this facility to others looking for a more upscale hospital experience. read more

Horrible horrible horrible horrible. They changed their name to Texana Physicians from Bay Area Medical who went bankrupt. I went to the emergency room there and after I got there, the pain went away and I was feeling back to normal. They would not let me go, they made me do numerous tests and stay overnight. They had me do a stress test on a treadmill with a skimpy robe that did not close all the way, with no bra on and the male doctor wanted to be in there when i did it. I refused and they said i had to take the test or my insurance wouldn't pay for my visit. Luckily, the doctor got busy and didn't show up. They never found anything wrong with me and I went home the next day. I felt like i was being held hostage. read more

The worst, I am telling everyone this is worse hospital that I have ever been to or ever seen. Went for a procedure this morning arrived at five like I was told to do, they failed to verify my insurances and told me in front of other patients that I would have to wait until eight this morning so they can verify my insurances. Clear Lake Regional has it done the day your physician orders a procedure done, I know this to be true. They have done 43 procedures on me since 2006. Run from Bay Area Regional to Clear Lake Regional for your health needs and stay far away from Gulf Coast Medical Group and there Bay Area Hospital. It's a joke at your health needs risk. I wish I could up load the recored phone from Friday when they said what I had to pay and everything was good to go. read more

Got refused to be seen today by this facility. My son has hives all over his face, fever, & throat pain possibly swelling from some type of reaction. I was told since I had two other children with me that he could not get seen unless someone came and watch my other two in the lobby. Well seeing as my husband was at work and we share a vehicle that was not a possibility. I asked if he could be seen without me in the room even though I wasn't comfortable doing that because I knew he could potentially be having a life or death issue. They would not let him go in by myself which is understandable since he's 6 yrs old. But due to all this I had to leave without my son being seen because his siblings could not go into the exam room with him. On top of that the receptionist came off rude and kind of snotty. I'm now debating whether or not to just call an ambulance so he can actually get service. He has insurance and if his throat closes up or something serious happens they will be looking at a lawsuit. Not very single mom friendly.. I'd give zero stars if I could. read more

Better than Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. However, they still cannot treat anyone that is considered obese. Not able to do a CT or much of anything else. My Dr. told me that hospitals in the Clear Lake Area will only stabilize someone and then release them. read more

I love this place! I have worked here since before it had officially opened and I have never been happier. Of course every workplace has it's kinks and flaws, but I can honestly say the people here know how to treat their staff right, from my director all the way to the CEO-they care. I came in for a back muscle problem. Went to gym just before coming in and took pre workout supplements. They were overly concerned about my blood pressure and did nothing for my back, that was a $5000 visit I should've avoided. Never again. No MD on staff, they wanted me to stay all night for nothing. read more

I would not recommend Bay Area regional , my mother went to the ER and the nurse gave my mother hard time trying to put the IV on , and they kept her waiting outside for one hour vomiting everywhere and crying from her pain and when we told them she cant handle her pain anymore and she vomiting they said there is no room available for her and after they took her in, all the rooms were empty they have no patient at all. I do not understand how they can keep people in pain and vomiting and they are chatting and talking to each other , if they don't want to help sick people why they are nurses and doctors , they can stay home better for them and for the sick patient. read more

I know I said I would never set foot in this dump again, but push comes to shove when you are experiencing chest pain and tightness. A long story short, this place has NO CLUE! Whether it's actually their job or simple customer service, this ER is an absolute embarrassment. I came in with my symptoms regarding my chest along with swelling in my left leg, ankle and foot in addition to not using the bathroom in almost 24 hours. After sitting in a room with no blanket or pillow for three hours and having an ultra sound and chest X-ray, the ER "physician" came in and told me they found nothing wrong and gave me a prescription for muscle relaxers..... Wait, what?!?!? At this time I stood up, took off the EKG equipment and pads myself, along with a few other things and voiced my displeasure with the nurse. This is when I asked her if muscle relaxers will make me pee. In turn, she walked out the door and asked the "physician" the same question. His response, which I personally heard due to the door being left open was, "He is a 35 year old man, he will pee when he has to, he will have to go sometime." This is when I got pissed and pulled my IV out myself and wrapped my arm, took my muscle relaxer prescription and UNsigned discharge paperwork out to my nurse and voiced very loudly someone will be getting a call tomorrow morning regarding the staff in the ER and walked out. As I write this I am in Clear Lake Regional's waiting/triage area waiting to be seen. As bad as it sounds, I PRAY they find something so I can turn around and go after BAR and this "physician". This place is a money grab, it's not about truly helping people. After seeing a number of these reviews, people do not deserve to be treated the way the do at this ER, especially when it's an ER that people look for help, answers and comfort. If this was the last medical place on earth and I was dying, I would choose death. I gave it 1 star only because it wouldn't allow me to do less than 1. Judging from the empty rooms I passed while going to mine indicated they aren't too busy, yet I have to wait, literally, hours to get anything I request. They won't even bring me the nose spray I PURCHASED. I called for pain medicine, after 35 minutes and still no nurse in sight, I started to walk out. This got their attention and I finally got my shot. I waited 6 hours to finally get the nose spray I bought. I had not eaten all day, so after finally getting into my room around 3 pm, I called the kitchen to order something. It went into a voice mail box that is too full to take messages. This went on for 1 1/2 hours. After being discharged, be sure you have a way to leave, IMMEDIATELY; because they kick you out once you are discharged. I was discharged around 2pm, told them my husband works till 4, in Baytown, and will pick me up. At 3:20, a nurse came in and asked if he was coming. I told her yes, after he gets off work. At 4:15, another one came and asked if I got in touch with him. Around 5, the first one who asked came again, wanting to know if I talked to him. During this time I had called and text my husband and his phone was going to voicemail. When the 4th nurse came in and asked if I had talked to him, while she was there, I called; phone went to voicemail. I then text him, again. At 5:30, one of the same nurses from earlier came in and asked if he is coming. At that point I told her no, but as you are so anxious for me to leave, I will. I got up and dressed, she kindly said, is there something I can help you with, do you need a wheel chair? I told her I didn't need anything from them and proceeded to hobble out of the hospital. I waited outside in the cold. My husband had been with a customer at our storage facility and got there around 6:30pm. read more

In May of this year , I had a procedure at Bay Area Regional in Webster, Texas. The nurses in surgery and recovery were awesome. They really took care of me, also the nurses on 4A were very good to me. They were great. I have no complaints on the hospital. read more

Went to the ER on 12/01/2015. When I told the receptionist I was here for chest pain, I was told to fill out the form and go sit down. It was 20 minutes before I went to triage. In the mean time security was directing people to fill out the form and sit down. The lady working there was too busy on Facebook. After I finally got to a room, i hd a blood draw that sat on the counter for almost 45 minutes. The DR. did show up and chat. The nurse, Tina, came in and hour after i as there to take a medical history. Long story short, stay away from their ER. I had surgery there in September and was treated wonderfully. read more

My husband had to go to the ER Friday night and unfortunately had to be admitted and had to have a procedure done first thing Saturday morning. I cannot say enough good things about the staff who was working the ER Friday night (7/10/15), his nurses that cared for him on the floor (7/11/15), and the physicians who treated him. My husband is never sick and had never been in the hospital before, so he was nervous about the whole situation. He had to go the ER by himself as I was stuck at home with our toddler. Since I couldn't be there, it was comforting to know that the ER staff made him feel relaxed and eased his nerves. They kept him laughing and as we all know, laughter IS the best medicine. It is always great when a crappy situation turns into a positive one with amazing care we received. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my families care! I was referred to BARMC by a doctor for a biopsy. While the biopsy itself went smoothly, the claims/billing was a nightmare. I won't bore you with the details of my ordeal, I will simply say if you can help it, go somewhere else. They use out-of-network doctors without the knowledge or consent of the patient, and they do not get the necessary pre-certifications/ authorizations either, but will claim everything is covered 100%. A costly lesson learned for me. read more

I have nothing good to say about this place. Took my son for an outpatient procedure. I have NEVER seen such dirty restrooms in a hospital. They were truly gas station worthy. The feel of the place is not warm. The people were nice enough but not in a hurry. I prefer Clear Lake Regional any day. read more

So disappointed. Hospital is like a ghost town. Brought Elderly mother by ambulance to ER. Got there at 11 am got put in a room at 7 pm. While in the ER she had an allergic reaction to some medication. Either antibiotic or steroid injection. I only saw two nurses for ER and they both slow. Mom started itching and turning red. Found nurse, she slowly walked in and unhooked her IV. She walks back to her station. By this time Mom is struggling to breathe. Again I got her and she slowly walks in with Benedryl. In other words she could have died. Did not see doctor for another hour. Would think he needed to check on her. Floor nurses also move in slow motion. Hospital doctor makes his rounds then it is up to nurses to care and treat patient. Cafeteria open 8-2 Monday-Friday. Starbucks closes at 9pm. Weekend nothing is open. The ads say Top technology ER. I did not see it. NEVER Again. read more

I have had to take my elderly mom into the ER three times since June and each time I am very impressed at the care she is given. Today was another event in which I had this experience and would like to give a huge shout out to the ER nurse Gwen she showed so much compassion and gave such gentle care to my very sick mom. I had choice between BARMC and St. John for knee replacement surgery I chose BARMC becuase the surgeon did his surgery there on Mondays and St. John's on Wed. Just wanted to get on with the surgery, Big mistake. I've had past surgery done at St. Johns and had no complaints with them. Should have waited. The surgery went well and no complaints there. However, once I got to my room, is where my stay fell apart. The bed was more like a baby crib where I couldn't access the controls. There was no bed lighting, only overhead lights controlled by wall switch, Had to leave TV on all night to serve as night light. Went 5 days without anybody ofering to "Bathe" me. Had my granddaughter and wife change bedding on third day. Went two nights ,12/14 hours without food ( I'm diabetic and need controlled proitein)and wasn't offerd any.. Had to ask for personal hygeine wipes due to excess body fliud. Went several shifts with drinking melted ice in cup instead of fresh water. They did come by to check vitals but then disappeared. Over all I went there with no preconceived opinions, My overall impression, is that there were a couple of nurses/aids that were helpful, however, I felt neglected and the more I think about my stay, the more "tic'd" I am.. Given the choice again, I'm going to St. John's. Side note, couldn't acess wifi , didn't work. Very disappointing. read more

I was admitted to the emergency room two days ago and I still haven't seen a doctor. This place is barbaric.

I had an MRI here and was quoted that my patient responsibility, with insurance, would be $160. I paid this in full upon admission. I then received a bill in the mail for an additional $800. I called customer service 4 times to try to get this resolved with no call back. I was finally told that the patient responsibility was only an estimate and i would have to pay the full amount. If I would have known that this test would cost $1,000 out of pocket, I would NEVER have had this done. I would have had a more affordable test, CT scan, which my dr gave me the option. I feel like I was MISLEAD with the initial quote. It was no where near "an estimate". I am just going to conclude this type of bait and switch is normal practice for Bay Area Regional Medical Center because there was NO attempt to remedy a mistake made by one of their employees. I will never return to this hospital and urge others to not choose this establishment as there are so many other better options out there that practice with integrity. read more
