Everything from the receptionist to the ER nurses was fantastic. Great group of staff in the ER. HOWEVER, on the 7p- 7a shift my husband had a nurse (MICHELLE) that was so rude. I'm an ICU and ER retired nurse from UTMB and I have NEVER talked to a patient or the family as rudely as she did nor have any of my co-workers that I have ever worked with. After this happened I did not trust her to give my husband adequate care. If she treated the family like she did how would she treat my husband while I was gone from the hospital for the night. I hope that myself or any of my family members are never subjected to this nurse. If anyone from UTMB would like to discuss this with me the night house supervisor knows about it. I also plan on talking to the Nurse Administrator about it. The date of service was July 15th. read more

Instead of getting people out of the er they just sitting behind those white boards talking, not paying no mind to the patient, one patient had to ask multiple times for a cup to pee in its 2:26 on Monday ive been here since 11 am ??? What are they doing to get my mother out of here ?? Not a damn thing this is the worst service ever !!! Nurses at night are lazy. I had two of them that left my arm full of black and blues. I had a nice case manager but she found me the wrong rehab place as long as they get rid of you they won't meet your expectations. One lady Dr was really mean I did not care for her attitude too bad if she did not like me I did not like her either. Great cardiologist nice cna's but as a group not all was 100 percent Kidney Drs excellent providers Cafeteria workers are nasty they don't help just throw the trays and good luck. read more

Great staff! I have nothing bad to say about this place. My daughter had to be transferred here from HCA Clear Lake because they no longer had a pediatric unit and the staff was so much friendlier! Jane my nurse was amazing. She checked in frequently and came without issue when needed. HCA Clear Lake tried to send me 2 minutes down the road in an ambulance ride, they tried to put a IV in a 4 month old before "transferring" her, they tried to do a lot of unnecessary procedures for billing and liability reasons and they do it in a very predatory way, last time we were there they tried to put a catheter and IV in a 2 month old. . I felt it the entire time I was there telling them NO to one thing after another. UTMB was the opposite. They didn't even mention an IV on my 4 month old who came in with breathing issues, something HCA clear lake told me was needed to admit her and they were just gonna do it there anyway. The staff at UTMB is down to earth and friendly, not one person was anything but friendly during our entire 2 day stay there. Ill mention how great Jane was again, and Devon did a great job too checking on my daughter and explaining things. Ill be sure to pass HCA Clear Lake on my way to UTMB next time now that I know your there! :) read more

Had my daughter there and told them before and after her birth i wanted to keep the placenta and they "disposed of it" when i very clearly stated i wanted to keep it also they didn't let me go back when me daughter had to come back for a "heel prick" 1/10 hospital would not recommend to anyone. Also kept asking if male students can come in when I clearly told them no multiple times. read more

This place is terrible and it seemed to have happened recently! I have come twice in one month time with 2 separate issues and patience! Testing and all of that taking over an hour after triage and hope you have all day to wait if u get an xray/ct scan or anything not lab related, because it seems like radiology only has 1 radiologist on staff for EVERY UTMB! It took 6 hours and counting because unfortunately I'm still here, to just get labs read for a back pain!!!! And 3 weeks ago took 8 hours for radiology to get back with results for a ct scan!!! This is ridiculous! Emergency dept (with no other patients in the lobby btw) shouldn't take a full shift! Plus the front desk attendants are so unprofessional, bantering with the security officer about lunch orders at 8am and cursing at each other! Be professional! So embarrassing! I used to love this location due to the speed of care, but I'd say lately it's extremely downhill! Won't be coming back! Sadly it's the closest to me but I'll start making the drives! read more

Dr Mora never even examined/ touched my son however she decided he did not have appendicitis and refused to do surgery on him even though we were directly admitted for appendicitis. Had to leave AMA and go to memorial hermann hospital to get my son the care and the surgery he desperately needed. Confirmed appendicitis with removal. With her care it would have eventually ruptured. Shame on this organization! read more

I was in pediatric care and everyone was nice to me and my parents. Th nurses took good care of me and all the doctors were amazing. And Dr. Fernandez from gastroenterology truly cares about her patients. They listened to all my concerns with patience and compassion, and made me feel safe and understood throughout my treatment. ER Visit. Amazing quality of care, was in and out in 2 hours! Being a terminal cancer patient, we were unsure if it was the DVTS acting up or something else. I am DISGUSTED at the very, very, very poor service to the patients, specifically in the ER waiting rooms. I've sat with a patient who is simply left to boredom for several hours while never seeing a doctor nor a nurse. I was with a patient experiencing chest pains, who was basically just abandoned in their room - in one case given a nitroglycerin tablet for chest pains, but not checking to even see if there was ANY change in the patient condition for over 1.5 hours (there was not, but the nursing staff could not have known since they never checked). I timed one alert that went off for over 40 minutes before someone came in, and, without even talking to the patient, just reset the alarm and then walked out. Horrible, horrible. Beautiful building, but the patient care is appalling. read more

I have never in my life seen anything like this hospital. As I write this I have to say that my beautiful sweet mama was treated at this hospital in a manner that I would call inhuman. She left this world on 7/14/2023. Nothing that I am writing is pointing to her demise 3 weeks after being dismissed from this hospital but the time I spent with her while she was hospitalized here was very questionable. After contacting the Patient Representative I was able to have my mother's oxygen hooked back up to the humidifier, have her Cannula replaced after a nose bleed incident that the nurse never helped replace, the IV being re hooked up and the urine collector re hooked up after asking several times. She had gone for a barium swallow test where they unhooked her from everything and rolled her bed with her in it to do the test. The same nurse called security on me twice because I was appalled that she wasn't doing her job and she felt 'threatened' by me, a 65 year old woman. Some nurses should not take care of geriatric patients. I returned home yesterday, 8/1 after attending my mother's funeral in Houston to find a letter from the Patient Representative of UTMB Health They thanked me for bringing the matter to their attention and closed the investigation 3 days after her passing. I would suggest that you go anywhere but here if you need hospital care. There were some excellent nurses but the bad ones canceled that out because all we ask is constant care for our loved ones. My heart is breaking for the loss of my mother and I'm convinced that this hospital, after spending 7 days here with her is not what I would want for any geriatric patient. read more

I am from Phoenix, Arizona. The worst hospital there treated me better. I was taken in from my hotel room because of a grand Mol seizure, stayed in my room for 14 hours and didn't see a physician. I had to control my own IV line, nobody even asked if I so much as needed water! If you're coming in from an ambulance, that's kind of a big deal, right? My mother had to call them from Arizona to come and do a wellness check because my seizure happened while I was on the phone! I was unresponsive when the paramedics arrived. I signed an AMA form to leave, which anyone would have done. And, what's also concerning is at the time I left, which was after 4:00 pm, my BREAKFAST tray was still in my room. The only person I saw was a chaplain, the nurses were amazing and I feel bad they work in a place like this. Unreal. I wouldn't take a dying animal here. read more

Gave Birth here. Friendliest Staff and Nurses. Took Care of me very well and answered all my questions as a first time mom and more. I also went next door to my OBGYN Appointments. I was seen by Dr.Karing and she also delivered me. As someone who jumped care to care because of the military, this was one the best and they understood and worked with me. oh yeah, delivery rooms are big and spacious as well. you dont share with anyone. read more

Went to the ER with my friend who had savear kidney pain. they did get their in a room semi fast, 45 min. and talk to them. Asked them the level of pain they were in, it was a 9, and it took over 3 hrs. to give them ibuprofen. Plus it was 62 degrees in the room and they told them it was very cold, but no blanket was offered. we had to ask for everything. zero empathy, their lab results were complete, able to look it up on line, and it took them 1.5 hrs. to tell us. This was a slow Monday too. Never to return. read more

If I could post zero stars I would. I hope the patients know that as awesome as the nurses are here, they are over worked. Would you trust a nurse that got called in at 2 am and is still working at 6 pm? The human brain needs sleep and doctors don't care. They still schedule surgeries while understaffed and overworked! I would ask your nurse, how long have you been working this shift, because if it's over 12 hours with no sleep, I would not want that to be the nurse that preps me for surgery or takes care of me after surgery and I hope to God, is not assisting in my surgery. People ask questions! It is your life! I know this as first hand knowledge and something needs to be done asap!!! read more

My mother in law was taken here by ambulance. Her leg had a huge hematoma and it broke open on her leg. I had it wrapped of course but the medic took pics of it to show hospital staff to make sure she got a room right away. 5 house later they finally put her in a room. She's 74 yo and was crying in pain and they took forever to give her pain meds. When she said she had to go to the restroom they acted like they didn't even hear her. I've also been to the same ER and after 4 hours of waiting they sent me home when I could even walk. Said because it was muscle skeletal they couldn't do anything for me. Once my husband arrived we were told we could only have 1 person in the room at one time. If I could give this place negative stars I would. I would NOT trust them with my life. Why did I bring her here when I already knew?? Because my brother in law insisted that he want his mother here. I won't be listening to him again! read more

I am giving this hospital 1 star, if i could i would grieve them a NEGATIVE 5 stars. My mom was admitted into the hospital on Monday morning and from the time she was admitted to the time she was released the nurses and the DOCTOR mistook my mom for a different patient over 3 times. at one point she asked for a laxative and they told her that she had a bowel obstruction and they never did any x ray or ct scan of her abdominal area only her chest and they were about to stick a tube up her anus, then the nurse came back and blamed it on the doctor. this place was very unprofessional and i would never come here again. read more

First of all, give Rozmeen and Roscoe and Brandon a raise, because they go above and beyond to ensure that their patients are as comfortable as can be - very timely and very kind. As for all the other nurses...My father-in-law has been here 8 times this year alone, and each time, my wife and I have to be up here for about 40-50% of his stay to raise hell because he's being neglected in some way. Leaving his urine and excrement for several hours, not getting his medication for 12 hour spans, not wearing masks around him (he's immunocompromised), not sanitizing their hands when they enter/leave his room, either under-feeding or over-feeding him depending on his stay and the nurses there. Overall, they don't listen to him. Oh, and he's on oxygen: One night shift crew came to replace his oxygen cord and left without plugging the new one in at all! The only reason he keeps coming back here is the proximity to his house, but please, if you have the choice, do not come to this hospital. read more

UTMB has and always will be superior service. They have always taken really good care of me and are willing to find the problem unlike HCA and Pasadena and Texas City that place sucks a.k.a. old Bayshore. The staff here no matter what time of day is always super friendly nice and caring and generally pretty quick on when you ask for things. Chris on the overnight shift on the fourth floor is a hoot love him so much he is so kind and caring. Thank you guys for always taking good care of me. There is also a gentleman in the ER that I would like to think as well but I can't remember his name but he went above and beyond for me as well. read more

If I could rate a zero I would. We went in around Christmas time to this hospital because my then 6month old son had been showing signs of something called Infantile Spasms (rare seizure disorder in infants). They got so bad this night that we went in via EMS (that's a whole other bad review). I had been searching up his symptoms and came across this disorder and began documenting video of every episode he would have, how long they lasted, etc. We were seen by Dr. Mauricio Smart and he completely dismissed me, I have NEVER in my life felt so belittled by a physician. I explained what I suspected and showed him the endless videos I had all WHILE holding my screaming in agony son, and his exact words were "you know you really should stay off of Google. It won't do you any good self diagnosing. Your son could not possibly have infantile spasms because it's so rare. It seems more to me like bad colic." That was it. He ordered blood work (or more like forced it on us) in a petty attempt to "calm us down". He literally NEVER came back to check on us, NEVER went over the results, NEVER came in to so much as examine my son. We had to ask nurses what was going on until finally a random nurse came in to give us discharge papers. No info, no follow up, nothing. Just told us to go home. My son left bruised, poked, and exhausted. Fast forward to now, my son does have EXACTLY what I suspected and I've had so many doctors and nurses APPLAUD me for my determination and advocacy for my son. Where Doctor Smart put me down, I was lifted up by other specialists and doctors. They've mentioned numerous times that 1. Dr. Smart must not be worried about furthering his education or else he would look into things such as this and 2. Had Dr. Smart just ordered an MRI or sent us to a pediatrics unit they would've seen something was very wrong. My baby is now 9 months and has suffered severe developmental delay, he's on 6 different medications for his seizures, endless appointments and physical therapy. Every minute was of the essence and Dr. Smart threw us aside when we were in desperate need of help. Every time I remember this man and how he treated us I get sick to my stomach. Steer clear and get your babies the treatment they deserve elsewhere. read more

Then, the FNP wrote a BS inflammatory narrative that I claimed to agree with. I did not agree. There were people laying on the floor & very sick looking patients being placed in the waiting room. My mother had a very bad head ache, due to high blood pressure. We went in to get her checked out in the emergency because the pain was really bad. She started crying. They had use wait for almost 3 hours and nobody helped us. The lady at the front of the emergency room was like they know she's in pain. But nobody wanted to help. So we lefted. read more

The nurses and doctors were nice. Too bad they work for UTMB though. They charge exuberant prices (more than other hospitals). My son was delivered here in December 2020 and was perfectly healthy for the first day. The hospital isn't very clean and he got really sick on the third day and had to be transported to the hospital in Galveston where he spent 2 days there and was sent home. The bill my insurances received just for my son was over 60,000 and they are still processing my bill which is over 30,000. So 5 total days in the hospital here cost me nearly 90K and my insurance got it down to 8,000 and they are still proceeding 13,000 for me. When I called and said I can't afford their monthly payments they want and I can't afford what they are trying to overcharge me for they just basically said too bad. The bill can go over into collections within 100 days after service. The utmb directors and billing office just don't care and are willing to overcharge for unclean services. I know utmb clear lake wasn't very clean because the surfaces in the room were still sticky and in the NICU the chairs were sticky as well. I also received towels to take a shower with that had other people's hair on it (long blonde strands when I do not even have close to that color plus my hair was braided). If you can figure out somewhere else to go! With each office visit with insurance I was charged 300 dollars too so again don't make the same mistake I made. read more

My 88 year old mother was admitted to this hospital. She was very confused and quite ill. The staff treated her horribly and ignored her call for over 25 minutes to use the bathroom. The urology PA tried to find a nurse and was told they couldn't find her. No one at the nurses station would look at me let alone show any compassion. I was told the nurses have too many patients so what should my expectations be? Visitation is only 30 minutes. If they ignored her and were disrespectful while I was there, what is going on when I'm not. If the staff can't be compassionate, they should find other work! I definitely do not recommend this place, especially for emergencies. I went this morning and no one was there and the doctors wouldn't treat my pain that had me in tears. I have an allergy to most pain medicines, so I am and was punished and suffering for that. I was told they needed to wait for imagining to come back before they could treat me. I left. I asked the nurse to take my IV out so I could get better care elsewhere, but he refused. I have medical insurance, that I pay so much for. Dental and vision too, and I was treated like complete crap! I am insured every way possible !They also missed my vein 3 times. The nurses never introduced themselves. I now know why they are never busy. I just cannot comprehend care like this. I am not a drug seeker, I was and I am still in legitimate pain and left feeling less than and defeated. I have never understood why a doctor would do that to a patient. I pay $400 a month for insurance and got treated like trash. I have a primary and oncologist doctor and that's saying more than most people. Humans need help when they go the hospital. Pain bad enough for only IV kind and doesn't make you a bad doctor for addressing it, it makes you a bad doctor making people wait in pain and NOT addressing it. Do not go here, I hope they close down and quick. Worse doctors, nurses and staff except for the imaging nurse who was more than kind. read more

I was admitted to ER with dizziness and could not help move myself to the bed. I had several doctors come to discover if this was heart related. They did many tests and kept me over night for two more tests the next day. Every nurse I had was great ready to get whatever I needed. The charge nurse Tori the next day was so nice and helpful to make sure I had lunch and could be checked out quickly. It is a clean beautiful hospital with doctors and nurses so professional.
