Young untrained staff, customer service went from decent to abysmal. 2 out of 3 of our last visits, someone at our table finally got something they ordered when the rest were nearly finished. After 13 years in Katy. Texas Borders, WESTGREEN is still one of our favorite go to places for dining. It's a sports bar type environment with always fresh, homemade food from scratch. Servings are plentiful and it's still family friendly. If you havent tried it, bring your friends and family and come check it out! The staff is friendly and attentive. Too many kids, crawfish was less than par, bar was packed leaving us to order drinks from the table that we waiting 30+ min for. Sat down thirsty and still couldn't get a drink because lack of urgency and hospitality, and service was less than mediocre. Can't say I've set foot back in there since then! read more

Used to love this place & their burgers!! Recently had a bad experience & don't plan on returning. First when being seated the waiter was sarcastic & rude to my husband...we should have left then. I ordered my fav burger & our waiter suggested I get jalapeños on it so I asked for them on the side. After I took 2 bites & hubby took 1 I couldn't eat it--it tasted terrible! I told our waiter that it tasted bad. He said he'd talk w/ manager who I thought would come over, but no we did not see him. Waiter took burger off of our bill & left the extra charge for the jalapeños on it which I did not touch. So disappointing because their burgers used to be so good. Located in a shopping center with many dining options available. We chose Texas Border Bar & Grill and we are glad we did! We were immediately greeted and sat right away. They have a nice patio area and have many huge tables to accommodate a big party indoor or out. Their menu ranges from Cajun to Tex-Mex to American which worked for us since BF wanted Tex-Mex and I was craving wings. Our server was Layla and she is amazing! When she found out it was our first time she gave us a huge basket of chips and plentiful sampling of their salsa, queso and super addicting jalapeño ranch. Their award winning salsa is made daily and and you can taste the freshness in the ingredients. Fried mushrooms came out piping hot and really juicy. I ordered the 10 pc wings (naked with garlic parm and honey bbq) and that also arrived piping hot. Loved that their wings were still crispy even though it was tossed in sauce, not soggy like other well known wing places. My BF ordered their soft tacos and chose the fried cat fish for one and the other fried shrimp. He enjoyed both and liked that they were not drenched in batter. Food here is really good! Though, the restaurant itself has an odd smell that I'm not a huge fan of. Smells kinda like cigarettes? (Not really sure what it is, but not a huge fan). We've been coming for years, and we will keep coming though! I hope to return soon. read more

Upon walking in it reeked of cigarette smoke, ok fine.... but then we were seated next to the "arcade" that is currently being used for storage and then saw a roach run on the wall, then ants bit my feet from under the table, and to top it off they gave my friend the wrong drink and when the server came back we said "this is the wrong drink" she said "i was wondering where that went" and took it to the correct customer. (We have a virus spreading, and that drink had been at our table for like 20 mins). We will not be returning, the food is not very good anyway. read more

The drinks we good but on the small side. The food was not what I was expecting. It was a little on the salty and greasy side. Came in for lunch today and was super happy with our experience. Natalie was our waitress and started us off with a chips sampler with queso, jalapeño ranch and salsa since it was our first time. She was super knowledgeable about the menu and answered all the questions I had. My husband had the beef tacos and I tried the salmon tacos which were both huge portions and very filling! It used to have great customer service but our last visit was outrageous. We were completely ignored.

Very friendly and courteous staff all around! Menu is extensive! I've had cold dishes, various salad choices, always fresh and plentiful portions. I can't remember the last time I have a restaurant five stars, BUT baby this place deserved it. This is the most gracious accommodating restaurant I have EVER experienced. The young woman who sat has introduced herself as the owner. She asked our names and shook our hands and asked if it was our first time. She told me about the screwdriver and then offered to give me a sample. I got a sample of the screwdriver, the chili (more about that in a moment), and the gumbo. Our waitress Alycia was patient and awesome. She gave us great recommendations and we went with the BOB burger : jalapeno burger smothered in chili and queso. Honey baby, I am on a food HIGH!!!! We stopped in here to try out the food and service, since they are taking over All-Stars, which is a staple out by us. We had a great experience. Was in town for a quick business trip and wanted a burger and a beer and found them at Texas Borders. However, not the beer that I wanted. What kind of burger bar with the name "Texas" in it does not have Lone Star? Location is in a huge parking lot surrounded by 7-8 other restaurants, so you have your choice. Walked in and was seated after a moment by the hostess who told me to pick where I would like. It was around 6:00 on a Tuesday but maybe 6 tables filled and half the bar was seated. Floor was a bit sticky and several tables needed to be bussed and floor cleaned up. Table I chose was clean and she took my drink order, Lone Star, went back to the bar and came back 3-4 minutes later letting me know they do not carry that..sigh. Bad enough you don't carry it, but even worse the waitress did not know. Ordered the Chipotle Bacon Burger, medium with extra jalapenos and rings. Waitress was nice who took care of me and food came out really quick as they were not busy. Burger was done correctly, tasty, bacon was crispy and jalapenos were fresh. A very good and solid burger. Onion rings were ok, not great, but good enough that I ate them all. In and out in less then 45 minutes, good burger, ok rings, beer(xx lager) was very cold and nice enough service. read more

Good food, and great service...way out in Katy. Who knew? Seriously though, Texas Borders is great. It's not your typical bar & grill with generic, over-salted, low quality food-like substances. You can tell they put thought and care into their menu. Everyone here is friendly...bartenders, servers, and patrons alike. They definitely foster a family atmosphere. Back to the menu. They have a diverse selection of comfort food, Cajun/Creole and Tex-Mex. They do them all well. I LOVE their onion rings and their buffalo shrimp. Their chicken nachos are good as well. They prepare their nachos so each chip is topped with chicken and cheese...a much better presentation than the stacked mess. Their soups are also good, particularly the crawfish bisque and their chili. Their chili is called red hot for a reason...it's hot and full of flavor. Texas Borders has a pretty good happy hour with lots of specials. If you come during happy hour you'll notice it's packed. You might have trouble finding seats at the bar, but folks do come and go. Parking isn't an issue since it's in the middle of a strip mall full of other restaurants. I'll definitely keep coming back. read more

Okay so I thought I'd give this place another try since the last visit. Our waitress was horrid last time around, I mean, who counts their tips in front of customers? This time around: When I sit in a bar I expect the nasty stench of cigarettes not when I am in the non-smoking section. The new place although is aesthetically (sp?) nicer than the last it has absolutely no ventilation. Put the freaking smokers outside PLEASE! I opted for the fried chicken tenders with sweet potato fries. Hubs and friend had burgers. All foods were really good, and not as greasy as I thought they would be.
