Oh, how I love thee, Texas Chuck Wagon! The best chicken fried steak I have ever eaten in my life--no contest. Portions are huge, the staff greet you the moment you walk in, and after a few visits, I swear they'll have to roll me out the door (and I'll be smiling the whole way). The fried pickles and cheese curds? Absolutely incredible--perfectly crispy on the outside and addictive. The pancakes are massive yet light and fluffy, the bacon is perfectly crispy, and my coffee cup never runs dry. Honestly, with all this good food, they were seducing me into doing a happy dance right there at the table. Now, back to the star of the show: that chicken fried steak. It's huge, the meat is melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the coating is seasoned perfectly--crispy enough that even my leftovers stayed crunchy after days in the fridge and a spin in the microwave. This was a great breakfast restaurant as i ordered a feast however when I went to take a picture the food was demolished. I will say the Chicken Fried Steak was delicious but there was definitely more breading than meat yet still a good breakfast. The Eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy made up for what was served. A great local spot. I've only ever eaten breakfast here, but they do also serve lunch and dinner. Wonderful staff and a great atmosphere. If you're looking for something that's not a mainstream restaurant with great service, this is an excellent pick. My only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is because of portion size. I got the Texas sized chicken fried steak and my wife ordered the hamburger steak. Both our sides and rolls were barely warm but our steaks were hot. I had a unsweet tea that was very weak for $2. I should of got free water like my wife. We also ordered take outs for our dinner later that day. I got the John Wayne double meat burger for $13, no fries with it. When I got home later that day I noticed it was dry, no BBQ sauce like the menu said it would come with. My wife got a brisket taco special ($10). that came with 2 small tacos, a side of corn and fries but she notice the Pico was missing. I'm not too sure of where to begin, but I'll start off by saying that the mashed potatoes was the only decent thing here and may have actually been homemade. The cornbread felt weirdly dry and a lot of the food had too much salt and black pepper, otherwise the hamburger steak would of been good. The cabbage needed something extra, maybe ham, and perhaps too much black pepper? I also ordered a hot chocolate that was decent, but once my cup was half empty, I felt continuously ignored and in need of a drink, especially as I finished it. She asked if I wanted cream or sausage gravy... sausage was my choice. I live in Los Angeles and here for Thanksgiving, I have a really hard time finding restaurants where I live that makes home cooking type meals, so I was excited when I saw this one. I came in to give it a try and was very pleased with the quality and meal portions. Janie B was my server, her and the hostess both did an amazing job. The most important trait in a business, to me, is making a person feel welcomed and I felt that from the moment I walked in until the moment I left. Adorable little mom and pop restaurant with waitresses straight out of central casting. With thick southern accents they brightly pepper their conversations with "sweetie" and "my dear" so naturally that you'd think you were in a Fannie Flag novel. But more importantly, the breakfast is delicious. Fluffy eggs, thick crispy bacon, Texas shaped waffles and hearty white gravy all are standouts. When the iced tea comes served in a giant mason jar, you know you are in a down home restaurant. Plus the place is dirt cheap! Breakfast for 6 with tip came to just over $60 and we all left stuffed. This is usually a great place to eat breakfast. Latest experience with this restaurant was ordering through DoorDash. I know that things will happen, but it shouldn't happen every time you place a order. I even called after I placed the order to make sure everything would be in the bag. Spoke with the manager and Steve. Steve is obviously the owner. My concern was how often things were being left out of a order. ( he stated they were working on it). He stated that all my items were in the bag also and nothing was left out. Well me, the buyer who placed the order is telling you everything is not all here. He then said to call DoorDash that is who would have to correct it. ???? How is it their fault when you are the one's preparing it, packing it and handing it to the driver all tied down. Paying as much as we do for the delivery service is madden. Telling you that all items were not there could have easily been resolved. Which it is now resolved for me.
