He took a few continuity and voltage readings and told me it was a 50% chance it was the controller board and 50% chance it was the compressor, and that a controller board would cost $700 to $800. I told him I would rather just buy a new refrigerator. He collected his fee and left. I proceeded to order a new controller board that I found online for $89 plus tax and shipping, assuming I could install it myself. I have not received the controller board, so I don't know whether my foray into refrigerator repair has been a total boondoggle or not. I will buy a new fridge if I have to.
