Ron made the insurance call a breeze. We are difficult customers and they stayed and took care of anything we asked about or didn't understand, very patient. I was surprised to meet Steve delivering some of our supplies, awesome to see the owner out. Highly recommended

Material cost increases and permit delays were given as termination reasons. Below are some specific episodes from my experience: 1) The owner assured me that BTR would handle the permit application but requested that I fill out as much as I could. Their office submitted my application to the City of Austin, which was returned as incomplete. I was informed that the rejection was due to homeowner missing "intimate property details" that BTR wouldn't know. BTR later requested a high hourly fee to address permit issues--a rate that was not disclosed before signing the contract. In the interest of time and to get permit approved, I followed Austin's guidelines and obtained all the needed details in the permit application from public county records. 2) Permit delays were cited as a reason for contract termination. From my research and discussions with other contractors for this project, I learned that projects requiring permits--especially home additions/remodeling--normally involve extended timelines in Austin. After submitting the application and paying fees, BTR advised that the project could start because, based on their conversation with city staff, the permit was already "approved." However, the official approval did not arrive for nearly three more months. We chose not to start work without formal approval. 3) The permit was eventually rejected due to an incomplete fire hydrant review and a missing required seal on the plan--a shortcoming for which I accept responsibility as a homeowner. I acted promptly to fix my error, but completing the hydrant review took additional and longer time which was avoidable if we had right guidance from someone who knew the process. 4) I filed an insurance claim for hail damage to the property, expecting support similar to what I later received from another roofing company. The claim was denied, and BTR characterized my filing as "frivolous," which I found disappointing. 5) Ultimately, despite no actual construction being performed onsite, BTR retained my 50% deposit, explaining it was used for materials and administrative expenses. It was challenging to find another company willing to work with previously purchased materials and still provide the GAF Gold Pledge warranty. This review reflects my personal perspective and the facts as I experienced them. I encourage anyone considering contractor services with BTR or similar companies to read multiple reviews--including on sites like Yelp--and thoroughly research before committing.
