However, given…read morethe impact of a home renovation on a customer, I am writing this to inform potential customers of my experience with Home Remodel Pro/Home Pixel. For reference-I signed up for a kitchen + master bathroom remodel. TLDR: Do not go with this contractor. Between delayed schedules, wait and hurry up rush work, alleged non-payment of sub-contractors, nickel-and-dime line costs, and communication capability - there are many other great contractors in the area to go with for your next home renovation. I am also currently under threat from three sub-contractors for mechanics liens and am aware of other clients who may be pursuing legal action. Quality: B- Final quality of product is good, but with many small defects and issues. All work is done through sub-contractors - none were employees of Home Remodel Pro, so the overall quality I attribute to the sub-contractors work and my ability to be at the site daily. I saw John on site 5 total. Many of the defects were due to "wait and hurry up" where no work would occur for days/weeks, and then suddenly subs would show up in the evening or near the weekend and rush to finish the job as quickly as possible - many telling us so they could get paid. Cost: C- Even though John quoted us, shortly after accepting and giving the 50% deposit (thus the point of no return) there was an immediate and constant stream of things either not done or not included as well as extra charges that put him in line with a higher cost contractor including: - I chose to do flooring myself, so demo was agreed to clean the place and prep for flooring. When the old flooring turned out to be more difficult, I was charged $3k to level the floor. Pictures included of what Home Remodel Pro felt was "complete enough". - Removal of base board resulted in a quote for thousands (which I turned down), leading to issues. In the kitchen, the leveling only went to the baseboard, so when I removed the baseboard I had to chip away at the uneven parts in order to install the floor. For the bathroom, the sub contractors only tiled to the baseboard while I was away, so we were unable to tile the wall due to the gap. Additionally, timing of payment and completion of work was tenuous. Countertop material due 10 weeks before installation. Also, I had to pay up to 95% as "cabinets were in" even though everything around them, appliances, and finish work was not. I would recommend to any potential client to lay out in full detail everything that is included at each stage, and to not accept any verbal/hand shake agreements. Communication & Schedule F Schedules have been awful. We are in week 13 of a 6 week kitchen project. The 3 week bathroom project took 9 weeks. Having said that, I was in constant texting/calls with John to push for the schedule to move forward the entirety of the process. It is very easy to get ahold of John when money is due for the project. Other than that, it is nearly impossible. He is always in the middle of a meeting, dealing with an emergency, or having a family problem. John also informed me on purchasing incorrect items. He approved a hood/vent combo that ended up not being compatible and so additional cost needed to be incurred in modifying the hood. He also advised on the wrong tub, leading to a week and about $1500 in extra costs. Customer Experience: F This was an awful experience. I needed to constantly push John and work with subs directly to get anything done. I often felt as if I was the GC myself. Trash was often left at the house for weeks, we had to reach out to sub-contractors directly to beg them to come work on the house, and all the while John was either unavailable or unwilling to solve many of these problems. We are also now under threat from 3 subs who say they have not been paid for work 14-30+ days old, and we have paid John in full(except the last 5% which is far less than what the subcontractors are claiming they are owed) . Do not go with this company.

They removed all the popcorn and smother out my ceilings. They also installed all our baseboards. This was the promise and I quote: "The price quoted below includes the factory ordered windows, shipping to Austin, delivery to [house], sales taxes, installation, both labor and installation supplies, clean up and haul off of all of the debris we create." They broke a window on install, have the wrong glass in two of our window, cracked our siding on one install, one window falls down when you open it and many of the screens don't fit. We communicated the issues and were told it would be a week to replace the window they broke. We waited and waited thinking this guy is just a little disorganized, but has good intentions. Yeah, no! It is May 25th and absolutely no progress has been made. We cleaned up all the broken glass inside and outside of the house. I have personally reached out the ABC supply to request the someone come out to fix the window that falls. Wordy seems incapable of much except excuses. He will give you every excuse in the book about why it's not happening and tell you what he thinks you want to hear. "It's a priority, "Next week" is his favorite line, others include "hasn't arrived yet at the factory, installer can't, and don't have the proper tools. " The last straw was he showed up yesterday with the promise of getting some of the work done (2 months later) waited around for 45 minutes for the installer to show meanwhile he did nothing (no clean up, no putting up screens, nothing). He talked about some holes plugs and had a lock in his hand that had nothing to do with this project. He didn't even remember what needed to be done nor bother to bring the email in which I listed what needed to be done. He didn't wear his glasses so he couldn't see the screws (or another excuse). What?! You show up to work without your glasses?! He then tells me his installer drove by without the tools to do the work. Did the installer not know what work he was supposed to do? Another excuse? Finally, Wordy promises that "he will show and do the work himself if that's what it takes" all while standing around doing anything for the 45 minutes. That seems unlikely! Unbelievable!! This guy is either completely incompetent or grossly negligent. I will be reporting him to BBB, but meanwhile stay far away from Wordy Thompson unless you want your money and time wasted.

I'm calling them for everything that I need from here on out. Skylur came recommended to me by an electrician I trust. I had just finished paying another contractor 50% of the job when he flat-out disappeared on me and left me with a half-demo'd hall and bath (yep, tale as old as time). Skylur was extremely sympathetic to my situation and came over immediately! He looked at the current gutted bathroom and provided a quote within a couple of days. The quote was extremely fair for such a large amount of detailed work. His quote was less than ABC who wanted more money for far less work (ABC was just going to do patch jobs...but Skylur removed and replaced all drywall so it was perfectly seamless and brand new!) Skylur is patient, professional, and knows exactly what he's talking about and how to best solve a problem. He answers every single call or text right away. The communication is outstanding; fast, clear and always "yes, can do!" which is huge for me. He doesn't push back or say "well...that'll cost more." He just happily gets it done for the price he quoted and sticks by his word. For this project, I needed pocket door installation, major drywall repair, new baseboards, new trim, prime/painting, vanity installation, electric work. It was a very detailed and technical job (and I am admittedly pretty OCD when it comes to my house projects). Skylur made some smart suggestions that would not only get the job done, but look 1000% times better--aka: brand new. Our old hallway and bathroom were dark, crusty (bad caulk jobs over the years) with layers and layers of terrible texture and paint. Look at the photos and you'll see what a difference Sky-Lan made. Our new hallway and bath are bright, clean and about as perfect as I could ask for. Our kids finally have a bathroom that's bright and fun. There was a team of two who worked every day from 8:30am until past 6pm until the job was done. They protected the floor, covered all the walls and worked quickly and quietly. Every evening, Skylur would personally come over to inspect the work and make a plan for the next day. If I had any questions or concerns, Skylur was there to address them. We would walk through the progress for the day and I could just point to things I was thinking about. His answer to every question was "Yep, we can do that" or "Yes, we'll get that taken care of." Every night, the team swept, cleaned up all tools and materials, and removed the old plastic from the walls. Then the next day, they set up new plastic and got right to work, minimizing dust. Drywall/demo can be messy, but they were the neatest, most respectful crew I've seen yet. I even had a few huge ceiling cracks with some water damage in a nearby living room. While they had the materials, Skylur's team fixed those cracks and painted the repaired part of the ceiling and wall at no extra charge. And not once did Skylur say that something would cost extra to do it right. He just did it the right way to begin with. There was never any nickel and diming. Even after I paid in full, Skylur came back over to touch up a few things and install the pocketdoor hardware that I ordered. He also helped plumb the sink for the new vanity when I couldn't quite get it myself. Learn from me: don't hire the "guy with a truck" to save some money (that guy will take the money and run). And don't hire the big ABC guys off the internet who just want to charge the most money for the least work. Hire Sky-Lan for the personal service and attention to every detail on your job. His crew is talented and put a lot of time and effort into the job. The craftsmanship is top-notch. And as we all know, no job is perfect. So if there's something you see that you want done just a little differently, his team will do it with no questions asked. Skylur does not charge you until you say the job is done. No other contractor does that. He's truly one of the greats, and I'm glad I found him. Just wish I knew about him 15 years ago! Skylur and Sky-Lan are my new go-to contractors. Hire them, get the job done quickly and beautifully for a price you're comfortable with--then move on to the next project with Sky-Lan!
