If you're a first time visitor here, you'll drive down the gravelly driveway and park where you can. The location itself looks very rustic on the outside, but inside it's cool, modern and has plenty of seating. You'll find plenty of shade trees and two water stations along with some nonalcoholic drink options. There's no food truck on site, but they do offer a charcuterie board and I was told you can now bring your own grub (still might want to call and confirm though). At the bar inside you'll find a listing of their ciders including some guest taps that rotate. There's two unisex bathrooms near the bar and two sinks on the outside where everyone can watch you wash your hands. It should be mentioned that there is one oddity about this property and that is the small McCuistian family cemetery just a few hundred feet west of the driveway (see separate review). And if that cemetery is not enough to get your attention, the huge Live Oak cemetery is directly next-door with over a thousand graves to peruse through (yes, I reviewed that one too). So if you're looking for a place that produces high-quality craft cider and enjoy the rustic Hill country setting, this is it. During my entire existence in life on this planet, I had never drunk hard cider until early this year when destiny brought me to Texas Keeper Cidery. Damn! I had no idea what I had been missing! Now I'm addicted to the juice! Since discovering cider here, I've tried other off-brand ciders at bars elsewhere around Austin, and I must say, so far, all of those hard ciders have sucked balls compared to Texas Keeper. Not even close as good. Not even close. And the main reason for my current apple-based downfall is Honey Thief. Honey Thief is the stuff I'm addicted to. That cider has got a criminal hold on my soul. I don't know exactly what kind of sorcery they used to make it, but whatever they did worked. The first time I had it, I immediately understood that my life had been divided into two eras: the dark, meaningless years before Honey Thief, and the glorious age of knowing Honey Thief exists. It is smooth, dangerous, delicious, and wildly easy to fall in love with. At this point, I'm pretty sure if somebody told me I could never have Honey Thief again, I would collapse dramatically onto the nearest wooden floor like a widow just informed that her husband was slain in the war. But Texas Keeper isn't just out here humiliating every other cider in Texas. The food is badass, too! The Not-So-Little-City Sammie is by far my favorite sandwich at the moment. That thing flat-out rules. Smoked turkey breast, fig cream cheese, arugula on toasted baguette -- it sounds like something a woodland elf would eat for second-lunch, but somehow it also hits like the exact sandwich your heart and stomach have been looking for your whole life. Every time I go, I tell myself maybe I'll branch out and try something else, and every time I am revealed to be a liar. I'm getting that sandwich. Probably forever. In fact, dare I say it: the ALL-TIME BEST SANDWICH! And the pretzels? Really freakin' good. Unreasonably great, actually. Suspiciously magical, honestly. Warm, soft, salty, and exactly the kind of thing that makes you think, Are the rest of y'all aware of what is going on right now? Because this pretzel is showing off. Wizardry! The charcuterie boards are on another level entirely. These are not sad little snack plates for people pretending to be fancy. These are serious boards stocked high with a vast variety of vittles -- the kind of boards that make you feel like you should be wearing a cloak, posted up in a torchlit taproom with your adventuring party, dividing loot, talking strategy, and preparing to roll for initiative against whatever nightmare awaits beyond these cidery walls. Everything on them is ridiculously good, and Lindsey, Jordan, and Jill are usually the ones back there preparing the food, so they deserve the credit for putting together something that feels less like random bar snacks and more like a feast worthy of heroes. Now I do have to address the tinned fish. What the fuck is up with that?! Texas Keeper is literally the only place I have ever personally seen tinned fish on a menu, but I was told this is some sort of hipster trend or something. I guess I missed the secret meeting where everybody decided it was time to start peeling back little metal lids and eating preserved seafood, so that must mean that I am not a hipster, which suits me fine. Mussels in olive oil and vinegar? Sardines? Mackerel in a tin? I'm not even saying it's bad. I'm just saying it is funny as hell to me that in the middle of all this incredible cider, killer sandwiches, amazing pretzels, and elite charcuterie, there is also a section of the menu that basically says, Excuse me, would you also like to eat some fish out of a can? All in all, Texas Keeper Cidery is just flat-out AWESOME. Great cider, incredible food, cool atmosphere, and somehow the whole place has managed to turn me into a man who never even thought about drinking cider into one who now judges all other ciders against the ones served here and finds them lacking. Badly. So, from here on out, I will only drink cider from Texas Keeper. Delightful! Really selection of ciders , unique flair to them that you don't see other places. Tucked away in a grove of trees, it's a great place to relax on a sunny afternoon. My husband stopped in early on my birthday to have a cider and say hi to Lindsey, the manager. She is always so great to see and chat with! First time I was at Texas Keeper was for a wedding I was working at. They were incredible to work with and I highly recommend this as an event venue! My husband doesn't like cider and Lindsey was able to offer him a couple of different options that had more of a beer focus for the flavor profile. And Texas Keeper user has delivered 100% each and every time. Not to mention despite being in South Austin, they keep their prices reasonable which is hard to find these days. A solid pour of wine is $9 versus the customary $14 and the quality is way better than most. I don't know how we missed that Texas Keeper Cider was this close to Kyle, but we were in the area after a birthday party and had to stop in. It was early in the day, so the crowds hadn't arrived. We absolutely loved the ambiance, the service, the outdoor area, and the CIDER! Outdoor area has nice lighting, plenty of seating, and a nice casual feel. This would be such a wonderful place to have an event! Plenty of space to relax and enjoy some light nosh and delicious cider. We sat inside with our son who happily ate a Rice Krispy treat which we had their sampler. Honestly, all of them were good. This is not commercial cider; it is craft cider, and you can taste the different flavors and seasons of the apples used in each different kind of cider. I loved learning more about the cider making process, and the different flavor profiles of each cider. I would definitely suggest getting the sampler so you can learn and get to know their ciders. Next, buy at least 3 bottles and get a nice 10% discount! Buy more and get even more of a discount! They even have a monthly or quarterly cider delivery/pickup club! We most likely will sign up for the cider club next week when we stop by again. I can't wait to go during some of their events with live music too! What can I say, Texas Keeper Cider is a hidden gem! Seriously I have four friends that all live within 5 minutes of TKC and none of them had been before My first time visiting was for Friends Trivia hosted by Get It Gals....the place was packed, the playlist was great, and everyone had a blast. The Office trivia was outside the next time and was a perfect night under the string lights/ except trivia was super rushed. I might try the general Friday night trivia next time. The charcuterie board was devoured, the frose disappeared despite second rounds, and the bottles of cider were left empty. Luckily you can grab a bottle of blanc, rose, or gold rush to take home. And don't forget you can send TKC as a gift - shipping was easy and fast! I finally made it to Texas Keeper Cidery. The parking lot is plentiful, so no worries there. It is gravel/stone, so not a fan of that as much. They have both inside and outside seating. Came here for a date and I really enjoyed my time here. The cider is pretty strong a good 7% and up on most drinks. It was also really good. I tried one of the newer ciders and it's one of my favorites so far. They even have a vegan cheese board that I loved. It was so good I want to go back just to get more. How have I not reviewed the kind people at this wonderful establishment yet? I so enjoy the the solace of their old farmhouse venue. And the great ciders they serve up certainly do not hurt the wallet or the ambience. It's so relaxing sitting at the picnic tables out among the oaks listening to your favorite band. Strategically placed fans hidden among the trees aid in making the glade that doubles as a stage tolerable even on 90º days. In these seemingly never-ending days of the pandemic, it's also refreshing to see the servers masking up indoors and out. I tend not to venture out too much for exactly that reason, but felt totally safe here even when ordering inside the tap room. The ciders are essentially tribute to the apple gods, extremely generously priced, and the cidery is tucked away--makes for a great escape from the city of Austin! Came on a rainy day with some girlfriends after dinner, and we LOVED it. It reminded me of Jester King Brewery because of the fact that it felt very off-road and secluded. If you're driving at night and a little too fast you might miss the entrance, so slow down as your GPS tells you you're near. The stone cobble walkway is so organic and lovely, that it felt like we were entering into a storytale cottage. Upon entering, everything screams wood and warm pinterest vibes. The three of us sat down at their tall barstool table, and started on our flight! What prices! Normally they do 5 for $9, but they tapped out of one of the selections so we did 4 for $7! Such a great price for the variety of ciders. I loved their hefeweizen + cider combo, and the first cider on their flight list (a name I forgot). Everything was so juicy and tasty, would highly recommend coming back. The staff is very knowledgeable, and the lady doing the taptending that night was so sweet and helpful. I don't know why it took me so long to get here but now that I've been, I'll be telling everyone about it and making return trips! If you're a fan of Argus Cidery, you'll like this place. I do think Texas Cider Keeper is making cleaner ciders than Argus (nothing was infected or had off-flavors). It's easy to miss the entrance, but it's right next to the cemetery! The outdoor space is very quaint but all Texas and has tons of picnic tables. The tasting room is beautiful with butcher block tables and plenty of seating. We opted for the tasting flight menu which is five 2 oz. pours for $9. Their mainstay Texas Keeper Cider No.1 is dry, refreshing and well balanced. I'm not a fan of sweet ciders, so this was perfect. I also really liked their Grafter Rose -- which is made with Rome apples and some grapes, which gives it the beautiful rose hue. It's also on the drier side, which is nice. Our least fave of the five had to be the Cider Weizen, which had a bit too much coriander (and this is coming from a girl who LOVES coriander and hefeweizen beers). The bartenders were all knowledgeable and really try to give you an explanation of each cider they're pouring (a la a wine tasting). They also have a tempranillo wine on tap because in Texas it all falls under a "fruit fermentation" permit. Apples, wines, it's all the same permit. I'll be making it a point to come here more often, and I would if traffic getting through downtown and south Austin traffic weren't so bad. read more

My new favorite place in Austin. Love everything about it. It's basically the only Place I ever want to be. If you haven't been yet- get on the ball! The cider is so delicious - nothing is overly sweet and they have a good assortment of dry and well-balanced choices. Their sampler is 9$ for 5 generous pours and is a great way to find the cider you like most. For us it's the rose, but the original is a close second. Your best bet is to purchase a bottle and drink affordably. You even get a discount when you purchase bottles to go (although I'm not sure if that's just at the end of the night - we've closed this place down a few times). We are also big fans of the food. The carrots in a blanket are so yummy and very unique! A must-have. The curried egg salad is a go-to as well. It's made with eggs from their own chickens! They also add pickled veggies on the side which is always a win for me. The location is so spacious and beautiful. Plenary of tables inside and out. Even a great view from one side where you can watch the sunset over the trees. I've enjoyed live music there and loved the tunes they were playing inside. read more

Wow! So before coming here I always assumed ciders as overly sweet and flavored froo-froo drinks for those who don't like beer. I have never felt so mislead before! Cider is made from apples (no matter what the flavor), and real, legit cider is found here! It isn't overly sweet and there are many different kinds! Some reminded me of wine and a not-so-Sweet cider mixed together. At Texas Keep there is room to bring a large group, or even the dogs or kids to run around. There is a small indoor area with games and a huge outdoor area with room to move about and enjoy the Texas sun (or stars). The people here really enjoy and are PROUD of what they do. They are excited to tell you the story behind the names of the ciders and what they entail. They have seasonals and guest bottles and taps. Normally I would feel gross trying something out of a bottle opposed to tap, but the whole experience was so eye-opening, I didn't care. They told me their 1 bottle of (maybe a 750ml cider) has about 10mg of sugar in it as opposed to he "cider" I knew such as Angry Orchard that has upwards of 50mg PER BOTTLE! Yowza- no wonder they were too sweet! I was definitely iffy about coming here since they didn't serve "regular beer", but I'm definitely glad I stepped out of my comfort zone- and you should, too! Only reason it's not 5 stars- the food "truck" setup (not a truck just a station) was out of food by 6:30p on a Saturday night. We had ordered 1 of the 4 items on the menu for our group to try. When we went back to order our favorites, they claimed they were out of everything and turned around and took 1 more order. Annoying. So we ordered a pizza and left early to meet the delivery man at home. Maybe have more food or more options and we would've stayed until the 9p close. read more

Wonderful place! We went on a recommendation while we visited family. The ciders were great, as was the food. The only issue we ran into was that we ordered hummus, and the person taking our order didn't let us know that it didn't come with bread or anything else to eat it with. Considering we had just had a conversation with her about it being our first time there, we're about to present she didn't let us know that important bit of info. I have been a long time fan of Texas Keeper Cider. I love the Tap Room, the grounds, the staff and especially the cider. The cider is dry and they make a wide variety of ciders to appeal to many palates. They have successfully reopened the Tap Room and I decided to have my belated retirement party there. I was able to reserve a space for my large group and the staff was very attentive. If I had one criticism, it would be their food choices. It's now a make your own picnic, and you choose cheeses, meats, and sides. It's not really a charcuterie tray, as they don't prep the plate. The cheeses, meats and bread all need to be sliced. This made eating difficult with a large group. Most of my guests had to leave early so they could go eat somewhere else. I know this new menu makes it easier for the staff, and they are a cidery, not a restaurant, but I miss their old menu. I will still go to Texas Keeper Cider, but may not hang out as long. Super cute space- so much potential. The guy who was pouring our flights was super nice, we were excited at first to have finally checked this place off the bucket list. However, the ciders weren't that great unfortunately...we would've kept on drinking anyway, just probably ordering the other cider/wine/beer that they stock, not make. We were there on a very dead weeknight- only 3 other people were there, so you'd think they'd welcome more business- but we had to leave because we were told that we couldn't eat the tacos we got from a nearby food truck...if they sold food, I'd understand, and we would've ordered dinner there...but all they sell is super overpriced make it yourself charcuterie items (a whole block of cheese, a whole baguette, etc). The way we were told that we couldn't eat our tacos rubbed me the wrong way and the vibe was just sadly killed, so yeah, we won't be back :/ read more

Very unimpressed with this place. This place has such potential! The set up is super cool and the place has a great vibe. It is a little hard to find and the road is a little rough in their lot. The place was completely empty when we were there. The ciders were all just okay and some were super sour and not great at all. The bartender was the best part of the experience. He was super knowledgeable and so friendly. Probably the biggest downfall and what would definitely bump them to at least a 4 star is their lack of food. There are no food trucks on site, they only sell outrageously priced charcuterie boards, and we found out the hard way, don't allow outside food. We were told after we got food brought to us that it was not allowed. We would have stayed and continue buying product had they allowed us to eat. Rather we sat in their parking lot and ate on our talegates. This place is so out in the middle of nowhere you would think that they would have better food options. I came here last weekend after hearing they were having an event in honor of releasing their Gold Rush cider. It was my first time here and we really enjoyed it. Now, I must admit, I'm a supreme novice when it comes to ciders. The best ones I've had were in Portland and Seattle where ciders are much more common, widely available, and diverse. I also had a couple from New Glarus out of Wisconsin. Here in Austin, it can be hard to find anything other than Ace or maybe a couple of other non craft cider brands which are often way too sweet for my liking. So when I heard of Texas Keeper Cider, I was interested in checking them out. Now, because I'm such a cider novice, I couldn't even tell you if I like cider. I never crave it and even the good ones I've had were not all that memorable to me. Plus, like with the ones from New Glarus, the ABV is way too low for me. At Texas Keeper Cider, we did their 5 cider tasting for $9 which is a great deal and a great chance to try a good variety of their ciders which they all brew right next door. After tasting them, I can't say I'm any closer to liking ciders than I was before, but I'm glad I tried them. My clear favorite was their Cider Noir which is their darkest, most complex, and highest ABV one. The others had some subtle nuanced flavors to them, but mostly reminded me of white wine. That may sound ignorant of me, but again, cider novice here. I was a big fan of the staff, who really know their stuff, and the wonderful space. It would be a great spot to hold an event at and it's somewhere you could comfortably spend hours. They also have board games and even rotating caterers so you can eat while trying their ciders. Additionally, I like that their ciders average over 7% ABV. While, I may have a long way to go in learning about or even enjoying ciders, without a doubt I would say that Texas Keeper Cider is definitely worth checking out. read more

One year later I returned for their 1st Anniversary Party and release of The Grafter Blanc. For $9.50 (w/fees) your ticket included your admission and 10 oz tulip glass (not the standard 12 oz tulip most breweries sell for $5-6). There were no drink tickets included; all cider and other offerings were for purchase only. Certainly not the best deal in town....a town full of breweries with taproom festivities.
