This is a five star review for Salt Lick Cellars Such a cute and charming tasting room with amazing, friendly service and reasonably priced wines! We popped over from Salt Lick BBQ next door to grab a bottle, and it was so convenient--just a few steps away. They even have a red called BBQ Red, which felt like the perfect pairing. Our bottle of red was both delicious and affordable. The outdoor patio is dog-friendly and absolutely adorable, making it a great spot to relax with a glass. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area--great wine, great vibes, and great service!

Came to Kyle to visit my brother and on the way back towards Phoenix we stopped in for a late lunch. The property is massive and the outdoor tables under the trees is just a beautiful spot to enjoy the meal. So cool to walk in and see the pit and the BBQ masters at work. We sat outside and ordered and the food came out within a few minutes! I ordered the veggie plate and my cousin got the pulled pork and brisket plate. She said the meat was super tender (didn't even need the knife to cut it) and the BBQ sauce (regular) was really good, she just wished the meat was a little hotter when it came out. I don't usually like coleslaw or potato salad especially when it's swimming in mayo, so I was beyond excited to see it was not mayo based and didn't look anything like what I expected. The coleslaw was good, the potato salad had a little kick to it so I couldn't finish it, but it was all still good. The beans were also not what I typically expect, they were a pleasant surprise, and I appreciate that they were vegetarian so I could actually eat something. We of course saved room for dessert and ordered the half and half cobbler. I'm a huge peach cobbler fan, and this one did not disappoint, but I really liked the blackberry! Both were excellent and I highly recommend you save room for dessert too. We also placed an order for 2 ribs to go. Curious to see what she thinks especially since it is only 2 bones for the price. The dishes all seemed pricey, but we also aren't from the area so perhaps it's within average here. Kenzie was super helpful and friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed the pit stop for our meal.

First time to Salt Lick and there was a 45 minutes wait where the hostess suggested the cellars while waiting. This place is massive. It was a few minutes walk to the cellars from the check-in station and the place was quite packed. They got canned beers and several types of wines. It's a cozy small place and they got a huge outdoor picnic area where you listen to live music (there was a guy singing country songs on the day of our visit) and enjoy the sun.

We were traveling back home after a July 4th trip with our pup. It had just rained so we looked for a place that had outdoor seating. The first time I was there I remembered picnic tables so we took a chance. There was already a line when we arrived at 11:30 am. All of the outdoor tables were wet and no one was eating outside. People were just standing around the picnic tables waiting to be called inside. I asked the hostess if we could sit outside since we had the pup. She said due to the rain they didn't have any servers working the outdoor tabled so she recommended that we order to go and were welcome to use the picnic tables. We had our waterproof picnic blanket with us so that was perfect. Also, the picnic area was BYOB so my husband had a beer from our cooler before we got our meal. We had the ribs and burnt ends plate with sweet tea. The plate came with potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans. The coleslaw hang a tangy taste as did the bbq sauce. We both really enjoyed our meal and will be back next time we're in the area.

Last Saturday my friends and I were at the restaurant for dinner. We were all in town celebrating a friend's 50th Birthday. The atmosphere was wonderful with the lighted oak trees, the quaintest tasting room, and exceptional BBQ! Our server was Ashley T and I just can't say enough about how great she was! Highly recommend Salt Lick Cellars and ask for Ashely T!

Ya take the good with the bad. We came south of Austin to the wine valleys here and started with Salt Lick Cellars. They had the adjoining BBQ place and we were hungry so figured to start here then hit some of the other vineyards. The place was designed to take in a lot of people. it was full of folks at 1PM on Friday. There was maybe 150 cars in a lot that could hold 10 times that. The grounds were nice, with lots of shady trees and people having a good time. I think it was more of a good time from the BBQ and beer maybe as the wine was nothing to cheer about. we walked and asked for a tasting from the little window that was the winery. We got an eye roll and were told no. So we each got a glass of wine, not wanting to waste the stop. Both glasses were not good. Not to sound like a boozer but I can finish most any glass, but we had to pour both out sadly. it threw off our mojo enough that we didn't even get a different glass or BBQ. The good news was there were plenty more options down the road!

Hands down amazing. BYOB concept is nice. The restaurant does not serve alcohol. We did stop into the cellar on premises to grab a beer and wine. Live music in the courtyard. Server was very attentive. The brisket was tender and just melted as you ate it. The sides were great. The Half/Half cobbler No ice cream was the best I've ever tasted. Will return!

After eating delicious bbq next door my wife and I decided to do a little wine tasting. A charming western style building houses the wine tasting room. There are little items for sale like candles and honey. I tasted a few where one was too tangy for me but did pick up a bottle of Salt Lick Cellars BBQ White. Outside will find tables under huge oak trees and games to play like bocce ball. This place is designated as over 21. Besides wine they sell buckets of beer bottles to enjoy.

My fiance and I come here on a Thursday and the place was empty (just how we wanted it). The bartender in the tasting room was very friendly and helpful. We chose a bottle of wine that was a very reasonable price and finished most of it before we at next door. The grounds are pretty and there is plenty of seating!

I've been to salt lick two times. I've been to Austin four times. The only reason I didn't go all four times is time constraint/ lack there of vehicle. It's a nice drive out of Austin, getting a little taste of Texas hill country. Ideally I'd go to a swimming hole near by, then stop at salt lick for a great meal to finish the day. Everything is delicious and it's an awesome atmosphere. Plenty of outdoor seating which makes it an even better experience.

Salt lick cellars. Next door to bbq restaurant. The sommelier was fantastic, Dylan/Dillon steered us expertly through or tasting.
    Gwendolyn S.

Dillon (Dylan) was fantastic. He steered us well during our tasting and we went away with 3 bottles of excellent vino and a mixed 6-pack of beer. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves (even had a good laugh at the tipsy women imbibing). Wish we could have ordered wine at the restaurant though. I knew we wouldn't be able to finish a full bottle and still drive back to Austin so the wine stayed stoppered. My husband was able to enjoy a couple of his beers, so a win for him.

The Salt Lick Cellars was a nice little bonus to our trip to The Salt Lick bbq. With a little bit of a wait ahead of us, we decided to walk over to the cellar for some beers. You walk down the sidewalk along side of the actual Salt Lick restaurant and drool as you see the other patrons inside eating their bbq. As you enter the cellar you are faced with various wines wall to wall hut on the far left, their selection of beers. We looked over their beer selection and picked up 3 buckets of various beers including lone star and shinerbock. After grabbing our buckets, we enjoyed some on their benches outside. From there you can enjoy looking at their vineyard or play some bocce ball. Or you can walk back with your drinks back to the wait area to be seating. Perfect side stop if you're looking for an adult beverage while you wait if you forgot to BYOB

For most pasta dishes, I'd hit Mandola's in Austin. Save about $10 an entree and some gas money. A few weeks ago I didn't want to venture too far off the ranch. Wife and I ended up at Lisina on Saturday. Calamari to start was crisp and not chewy. Caesar salad followed and was a nice example of the dish. Lisina is also a little skimpy on offering bread refills. We finished with drinks and the panna cotta. Just over $100 for this experience. WELL, the next day I needed to take mom out for her anniversary. Dad has long passed but I always try to do something special. Sunday highlights forthcoming. This time with mom and Rooster along we started with the carpaccio. The presentation really wowed because it looks like red plate until you realize all that color is shaved tenderloin. White plate underneath! The greens, parmesan, and aioli was one of the best I've had. Mom went for the gnocchi; Rooster goes for the Mezzaluna ravioli. This is now Rooster's fave restaurant. I went back to the appetizers section and selected the crab cake. Zero complaints on these dishes. Don't forget mom's wine. Gelato and cake to finish the meal. I think I've dined here once since my 2009 review. Yup, steak pics still accounted for on Yelp. Trattoria Lisina is still going strong in Driftwood. Expect $$$$, this meal was almost $300. There was not enough time to go on a wine tour, so I had to figure out which winery to visit. I wasn't familiar with the area and randomly chose Driftwood Estates, which was a surprising highlight of the weekend! Was this real life?! Was I dreaming?! Standing on top of the hill, I was in deep admiration of the panoramic, gorgeous, and breathtaking views! It made me forget about busy city life and I only wanted to appreciate the beauty of nature and all its glory on such a perfect day (while sipping on a glass of wine)! I really did feel like I was in another world - filled with serenity, solitude and relaxation! We did a tasting and enjoyed the reds, which were more on the dry side, but I didn't mind because I prefer dry red wines. I definitely recommend the Sangiovese and Alamo Red. The bar area was a little crowded that day, so we didn't get to interact too much with the staff to learn more about their other wine offerings. There is a store next to the bar area. You can buy cute wine themed souvenirs for family and friends back home. They also have a small cafe - you can get some light bites and head outside, find your perfect cozy spot, and enjoy those breathtaking views! (Caution: There is plenty of parking at the winery, but please be careful and drive slow because of the bumpy gravel road).

Occasionally I'll stop into a new (to me) place and see what they have to offer. On a recent trip, the clients requested Driftwood Estate Winery because they had read a review and wanted to try it. Personally, I am not a fan of their wine but I made a reservation for the 6 of them at 11am and we drove out there on a quiet Thursday. There was only one other car in the parking lot. We walked along the path to the main entrance, admiring the views of the Hill Country from their beautiful and expansive patio. When we approached the desk, one of the more enthusiastic women in our group said, "We're here to taste some wine!" An exceedingly unfriendly elderly lady who looked like the most miserable person on the planet, scowled, "You need a reservation! You can't just come here without a reservation!" (Really? And there's only 1 other car in the parking lot?) Everybody was a little surprised by her attitude and there was a brief uncomfortable pause before I stepped in and assured her that the group had a reservation and gave her the name. They were whisked off to a table by another woman as the first woman muttered something unpleasant under her breath. Long story short-- my guests were less than impressed (with the greeting, the tasting room and the wine) and I can assure Driftwood Vineyards that they've lost at least a couple thousand dollars in any future business from my company. If they haven't already noticed, new wineries are thick on the ground in Driftwood/Dripping Springs. Driftwood Estates is a hard pass. My guests enjoy Fall Creek and Bell Springs much much more.

It's a very spacious indoor and outdoor restaurant with lots of seating and places to explore. As we walked in I noticed that it's very bright with a lot of windows. You order at the counter. After ordering he gave us a number and told us to seat ourselves. After figuring out where we wanted to sit we went to the water station and grabbed some water. We looked around inside at the decor and talked while we waited for our order. We started with two sharables and each ordered the burgers of our choice. Unfortunately when they started bringing out our food they made an error in how it was made. We told them, the took the wrong order back, and after awhile they brought us everything and apologized for the error. Our sharables were the Grilled Chimichurri Avacado which comes with a half avocado, corn, and tortilla chips, and the Hummus Board which comes with hummus, veggies, and pitas. Both of these sharables were tasty in different ways. The Grilled Chimichurri Avacado was delicious. You could taste all of the delicious flavors and the tortilla chips were strong enough to hold a mix of the ingredients. The Hummus Board was also very tasty. The Hummus was garlic flavored and the veggies were fresh and crisp. The pitas were warm and soft. For my main dish I ordered the Driftwood Cheeseburger. It comes with a beef patty, bacon jam, onions, pickles, sauce, and cheese. I opted for no cheese. The burger meat was really good. You could taste the Smokey flavor from the grill on the meat. The bacon jam was sweet but not overly sweet and gave the burger a sweet and savory flavor. The pickles added texture to the burger. It was a really good burger. I ordered my burger with a side of kettle chips which were nice and crispy. Overall it was a great place to visit. It's also super kid-friendly, with a kid scape area that keeps the little ones entertained while you enjoy a drink or meal. Speaking of meals... the food is next level! We've tried several dishes, and everything has been phenomenal. The fish and chips were some of the best we've had anywhere -- perfectly flaky with a thick, crunchy batter. The Wagyu burger was out of this world -- juicy, smoky, and cooked over a live fire. What I like about small vineyards is they have the freedom to experiment and create a variety of wines and blends using different varieties and winemaking styles. This innovation leads to fresh and evolving tasting experiences that keep wine interesting, exciting, and perhaps most importantly, personal. Small vineyards also focus on quality and sustainable farming, and produce smaller quantities of wine. This locally owned small vineyard has bold reds and crisp whites and breathtaking views at sunset. For my partner, I purchased a bottle of the 2019 Mourvèdre. This vino is smokey and bold with cholocatre undertones. This vino will pair well with steak and other red meats. While I am not a fan of reds, the quality and legs on this vino is undeniable. I purchased a glass of 2021 Barrel Aged Trebbiano which was reminiscent of a Cabernet Sauvignon blanc. Cabernet Blanc wines have a flavor profile that's similar to a mix of Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. They can be dry, but some are made to be slightly sweet. This Trebbiano was more dry that sweet which I adore. Aside from the vinos, the sunset views when sitting on the deck are stunning. My partner and I sat and watched the sun go down with glasses in hand. The vino coupled with the views made this outing magical. The service provided by those working here is outstanding. #supportlocal
