Cider flight
Amanda F.

My husband and I had seen this place for a while since we moved to this side of town. Usually I am running by it and we decided to finally stop in for a drink on a Saturday afternoon. We decided to do a flight of a piece of the ciders so we could try them all. It was the perfect choice as we both had different opinions of what tasted good. There are a few food options but we didn't eat here. They had a guy in the outdoor seating area that was cooking up some food on a grill. Overall a cool chill place to grab some drinks and hang out inside or outside.

Drove past and was drawn like a moth to clothes in off-season storage by the sign advertising espresso. As I was looking for decaf and they do not (yet?) have that, I tried their seasonal ciders: Raspberryberet (totally singing the Artist Formerly Known as Prince song of the same name)--a berry tart & dry cider; I was imaging it pairing well with the roast pork I'm serving for Thanksgiving so picked up a bottle of that. Then my little moth-like heart fell in love with their Hoppy Hour--a tropical IPA with a floral scent that initially made me nervous. The Hoppy Hour won't make it to Thanksgiving. Tip the bartender-- she makes good convo even with awkward turtles like me, and knows her stuff.

This place had a super cute vibe! We went as part of the Austin Ale Trail and enjoyed some ciders. They had a cute outdoor patio, and we sat near the fan so it wasn't so bad during the summer day. There was also plenty of seating inside. I got a flight, and I found their ciders to be good, but thought the flavors were a bit similar. I enjoyed their frozen drink, the peach one. Definitely worth checking this place out!

Moontower is a great neighborhood spot! The patio is mellow and the ciders aren't too sweet. I like that the offerings keep expanding with ciders, coffee, snacks and there's special events held on premise too including one with baby goats. I also stop by for refills of SoCo ginger beer with the rotating seasonal flavors. Check out Moontower and the personable staff will convert you into a repeat customer!

Do yourself a favor and stop by the Tasting Room at MoonTower Cider Co., over on Tillery Street, proudly brewing fine cider on the East Side. I was fortunate enough to show up just after the room opened (2-9 five days a week) and the ambiance and mood was perfect for a cloudy day: French jazz on the stereo, clean lines in the furniture and understated appointments and the well-informed and cider fan Anne-Claire behind the bar. She patiently walked me through ciders in general and expertly helped me understand one cider from the next from the "core four" and special tastings. Dog-friendly and laid-back, this is the perfect place to escape from the mayhem of daily life and enjoy an artisanal brew made by the good folks right here in town. How artisanal? They brew their own mead. Anne-Claire or others will be happy to recommend the cider for your palette and will speak to food pairings as well. All in all, a low-key, friendly no-pressure environment. There are no sales people here: there are artists happy to help you discover and share their fondness for cider. Go.

I've only been by once, but they did a great job with distanced service! They gave me a little buzzer for when I needed something, brought my drink out to me, and had hand sanitizer at every table. They're just doing outside seating and to-go as of 9/11. Their Pomme Blush was delicious--not too sweet. I'll be back!

The location itself looks very rustic on the outside, but inside it's cool, modern and has plenty of seating. You'll find plenty of shade trees and two water stations along with some nonalcoholic drink options. There's no food truck on site, but they do offer a charcuterie board and I was told you can now bring your own grub (still might want to call and confirm though). At the bar inside you'll find a listing of their ciders including some guest taps that rotate. There's two unisex bathrooms near the bar and two sinks on the outside where everyone can watch you wash your hands. It should be mentioned that there is one oddity about this property and that is the small McCuistian family cemetery just a few hundred feet west of the driveway (see separate review). And if that cemetery is not enough to get your attention, the huge Live Oak cemetery is directly next-door with over a thousand graves to peruse through (yes, I reviewed that one too). So if you're looking for a place that produces high-quality craft cider and enjoy the rustic Hill country setting, this is it. A couple of items to note, Friday night is movie night on a big screen outside and on weekends they have live bands. 10 informative photographs included.

I also hope that it sticks around after other breweries in the area have closed recently (RIP Oskar Blues, Circle Brewery, etc.) There is a food truck outside, Spicy Boys Chicken, that specializes in Korean Chicken. The menu is limited but I did find everything that we ordered to be very tasty. Back in the cidery, I loved that they had a wide variety of options to choose from including NA drinks, zero sugar drinks and other ones as well. It seemed like there was something for everyone. On Thursdays they host Geeks Who Drink Trivia which is pretty fun to participate in with a group. If you've played their version of trivia before, you'll know that its pretty entertaining even if you don't have the most trivia-inclined groups. I very much enjoy having this wonderful establishment in my neighborhood and I hope that it sticks around for a long time.

They just came out with new Agua Fresca's that we got to try and I can't wait to buy a four-pack the next time we have a pool outing. There is a cider for everyone. I'm not usually a cider person, but the complexity of these drinks was intriguing and I loved everything I tried. My fav was the super Asian cider! They have WiFi, ping pong table, and a coffee shop is attached!
