BEWARE SELF PAY PATIENTS!!!!! I was made to arrive to my appointment an hour early to meet with an…read moreon-site Patient Benefits Representative to discuss how they would help me with bills since I am a self pay patient. Very kumbaya. I had the appointment and the doctor ordered bloodwork, which I had done on-site immediately following the appointment. Everyone in that office knew I was a self pay patient. Weeks later I received bills from several different labs totaling over $3,000. For blood work. I called the labs directly to tell them I am self pay and asked to pay the self pay rate. They both told me they do not offer self pay rates. The doctor sent the samples to labs that do not offer self pay rates! I was never informed of the expected cost and they did not give me an opportunity to decline, ask for less expensive testing, or shop around. A reasonable person would not expect blood work to cost thousands of dollars. The federal No Surprises Act generally requires health care providers to give uninsured or self-pay patients a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before scheduled services. This was not done at all. After I received the bills I reached out to the doctor's office directly to try to get help from them to reduce the bills or negotiate on my behalf. E-mails and calls went unanswered. When I finally did track down an actual person who is a "Patient Benefits Representative" she was absolutely no help. She ignored my calls and e-mails to the point that I drove to her office and demanded to meet with her in person. She acted like she had no knowledge of my situation before I met with her in person, months after I had been reaching out. After that her only responses to me were, "I tried calling but no one answered". Had I known the cost I would have declined the blood work because it was cautionary and mainly to make me feel better that nothing major was going on. Both of the labs have now sent me to collections and I assume that I will be dealing with them on my own, as the "Patient Benefits Representative" at the doctor's office doesn't seem to do anything useful for anyone. IF YOU ARE SELF PAY AND GO TO THIS DOCTOR, MAKE SURE YOU KNOW UP FRONT WHAT THE COSTS WILL BE.

I liked how she emailed me the day before with instructions and a reminder. My appointment was at 1040a and got here around 1015. .I am still waiting to be seen. I'm not sure how they do appointments because new people come in and they are being seen before I am. I asked front desk about my appointment and they said usually it is not this busy but they had overbooked. It is a very bad 1st impression of the office. I do like there is a TV and free coffee available though. The staff is very nice. Dr. Rao came in the room very energetic and was extremely nice. Loved how she explained everything to me.

It's located in a very nondescript, older shopping center. Some of the office equipment and chairs for transfusions and such are definitely outdated. But everything is super clean, and I heard they are in the process of making aesthetic improvements. Looks certainly don't matter, especially in this case! All of the staff are amazingly friendly, professional, and well informed. And I loveeeeeee Dr. Kampe. I decided to get a whole new healthcare team at the beginning of the year and am more than pleased to add Dr. Kampe to the list. He has a great personality, is straightforward, while being empathetic with my needs at the same time. He took his time on our initial visit. I really felt listened to, which is something sadly I do not experience with many physicians. Thank you! Any progress is a big win in my book! From what I can tell, this is sort of a satelite location that collaborates with the much larger South Austin TXO. Dr. Kampe's schedule is limited, and the phlebotomist is only one on-site, one day, a week. In addition to renovations, I believe they are also going to try to staff this location more heavily and offer more treatment options. Pray. I am grateful for their service. :D

Dr. Kahlenberg immediately sent us for biopsy and about 8 days later he called me on the phone with the shocking news. My wife had stage 3 triple negative breast cancer. We started with chemotherapy and then mastectomy followed on 28th of February, 2019 and Dr. Kahlenberg did the surgery. After surgery he checked on my wife frequently and came to visit her in her room several times. I have never met in my life a doctor like Dr. Kahlenberg. He is the most professional, caring, comforting, people friendly I have ever met. I think he is the best of the best and he needs to be recognised for the outstanding job what he is doing on a daily basis. We will never be able to say thank you enough for Dr. Kahlenberg what he has done for us. I hope people know how great doctor Mr. Kahlenberg is and I can just tell to anybody who is going under surgery and Dr. Kahlenberg is his/her doctor, that they will be in the best hands possible!! I completed 8 weeks of radiation therapy for prostate cancer that had advanced to my bladder after…read moresurgery. This was the best medical experience I have had since my diagnosis. The staff, to a person, is outstanding - office staff, nurses and technicians. They greet you every day with a smile on their face and a genuine feeling of being glad to see you. Over the weeks I sat in the waiting room with people who got to know each other and talked about their hobbies and families. We would laugh and tell jokes. I sometimes sat in wonder as I reminded myself we all had one thing in common - everyone there had cancer or was with someone who had cancer. The fact we were able to do this was due to the culture of the staff and the care they provided. If you become a patient you will quickly learn about "the bell." A simple ritual that we all celebrated on behalf of each other and ourselves when the time came to finish treatment. I know of no other place that is so patient focused that they have instituted such a ritual as part of their care. Simple but very meaningful. I trusted this group of people with an important part of my health care like I have trusted no other.

After calling Dr Martinez's office with continued complaints her annoyed secretary relayed that I should take some Advil. After 4 more days of constant agony, Dr Martinez was finally able to see me. She walked in the room, kept her back to me and said "I hear you're experiencing some discomfort" to which I replied "I've never experienced more crippling agony in my life" she spent approximately 5 minutes with me, wrote me an script, advised me against going to the ER and sent me on my way. That night was the worst of my life. (Valentines day) I called again in the morning, the secretary took a message and never called me back. Finally I went to the ER where I was hospitalized all weekend and needed emergency surgery. The first doctor I saw said I looked like I had inflammatory breast cancer. My surgeon said you could fill a coffee cup with what came out of my breast. Dr Martinez clearly lacks compassion and bedside manner. It's evident that she's just checking off her days till retirement. I am traumatized after what I endured due to Dr Martinez's negligence.

I can't express my gratitude enough to him and to Dr. Martinez. She is very professional and businesslike, but also warm and patient and kind. Her office staff are BEYOND COMPARE when it comes to making you feel comfortable, welcome, even getting a laugh in here and there. She did an ultrasound in the office, and though she'd just done the biopsy, she told me she felt pretty sure it was malignant (which I appreciated because I wanted the straight story and I wanted to not be in suspense a moment longer. And she was right because she is that experienced and expert.) Although I was told that the biopsy of my lymph node might take two days to get results, her staff called me the NEXT DAY to let me know it was negative. Another big plus for me and a small sigh of relief. She guided me at every step, helped me with understanding the research, and when it came time to decide what to do, she didn't just lay out the options, she gave me wise advice and counsel... again, much appreciated. I wanted an expert to tell me what they would do if it were them... and the mass was sufficiently large in comparison to my B cup breast that she suggested I choose (if possible) a skin-nipple sparing mastectomy on that side, not a lumpectomy. That's what I opted for. Here's what you get with her-- she is SO skillful at what she does, that she was able to get me a clean margin and save the skin and nipple. How close were we??? ****.48 mm**** yes that's less than half of a millimeter. The difference between oops, sorry, we can't save the skin, you'll have to have so much other surgery to create a breast using your stomach or back skin and it will take months and never look anything like your breast.... and oops sorry, we saved the skin but there's a tiny bit of cancer still there so we have to do it again. She also recommended me to a wonderful, kind, skillful plastic surgeon (John Eggleston) and between the two of them I am.... grateful, and as happy as you can be having had a mastectomy. Today is my one year mammogram checkup, I've been on tamoxifen (no chemo, no radiation) all this last year, and I wanted to give a huge cheer for Dr M and her staff in case anyone else out there needed some insight on who to choose for the saving of their life.
