Although the two excellent doctors I saw at this practice quite literally saved my life, I'm unfortunately changing my review to one star due to ongoing issues with the billing department. I'm on Medicare with a Part G supplemental policy, which means that after my annual deductible (around $232), I should have no out-of-pocket costs--what Medicare doesn't cover, my supplemental insurance does. Over the course of my care--including ultrasound, CT scan, PET scan, biopsy, and a 10-day hospital stay totaling nearly $500,000--I had zero billing issues with any provider except this one. My GI doctor, ARA, primary care physician, St. David's Medical Center, and multiple specialists all billed correctly with no problems. Nearly a year later, this practice billed me about $18. After spending significant time on the phone with them, Medicare, and my supplemental insurer, that amount was revised to about $14--which I ultimately paid out of frustration after hours of back-and-forth. Now I've received a new bill for $640 (from March 2025). When I called, I was given unclear explanations about "co-insurance" and told to contact my supplemental insurance company--but the bill itself is difficult to interpret and includes vague line items like "Adjustment SEQUESTRATION W/0," with no meaningful explanation. At this point, I've lost confidence in the billing process. I will be filing complaints with the Texas Department of Consumer Affairs and the Better Business Bureau. There's only so much time and energy a patient should have to spend trying to resolve what appears to be a billing issue. PREVIOUS REVIEW, WRITTEN APPROX. 3/25 After determining I had a lesion on my liver from an ultrasound, I had a CT scan and then a biopsy. I was referred to Texas Oncology by my GI Doctor and got an appointment with Dr. Chadha within a few days. Dr. Chadha was great. Calm, confident and very knowledgeable. We were pretty scared but although he didn't minimize the danger of this cancer, he said that it looked as if it was localized. He ordered a PET scan to see if this cancer had spread anyplace. Then set up an appointment with Dr. McKenzie, the surgeon, for a week later. I also had several vials of blood taken in the office before I left. I was pretty impressed with the efficiency of the office. I went to see Dr. McKenzie the same day as my PET scan. He said he'd glanced at the results and it looked as if nothing had spread, but it still had to be evaluated by the radiologist. He scheduled surgery to remove part of my liver for a short time later. I went in for surgery at St. David's Medical Center. I have to give a shout out to that hospital. I ended up spending 10 days in the hospital as my digestive system didn't "wake up" properly after the surgery. I had been told that there was a very good chance this would happen and he wouldn't send me home until it was working. The people who treated me at that hospital were marvelous. Every single nurse, tech and cleaning person was just terrific! Two days after the surgery Dr. McKenzie told me that the results couldn't have been better. He had removed all of it, there was no spread anyplace and I was cancer free. I was thrilled that I wouldn't need radiation or chemo either. Dr. McKenzie is such a warm, empathetic gentleman. He takes pride in his work and who wouldn't be proud of performing life-saving surgery? Marvelous Doctors! read more

Doctors seem great. PAs are hit-or-miss. The rest of the operation is pathetic: - lack of parking. - 1-2 hour waits, despite confirmed appointments - neglected to provide helper medications for 3 treatment cycles, despite weekly PA visits and automated bi-weekly symptom feedback. - lack of backup generator caused 2 useless trips and a 2 week scheduling backlash. Proactive communication could have eliminated most of the issues. read more

I like my doctor and the nurses are all great. The Scheduling department however needs some work. They called me at 8 am the other morning telling me that my Doctor would not be in the office the next day, the day of my appointment. Ok, fair enough things happen. Trying to get ahold of someone to re-schedule has not been easy. One of the repceptionists at the main desk said they're always like this (or words to that effect). She suggested I schedule online. Avoid Texas Oncology - Lack of Compassion and Communication Following Patient Passing I am writing this review to warn other families about the administrative failures and lack of communication at Texas Oncology. My father was admitted to St. David's Main with a pancreatic mass that had spread to multiple organs. While the hospital staff was kind, we were advised by the treating oncologist to delay bringing him home for several days to perform a biopsy and genetic testing. We were told this testing was vital for the health of future generations. My father underwent the procedure on Monday, returned home, and tragically passed away that Friday. Since his passing, we have been met with a complete wall of silence from Texas Oncology. For weeks, we have called and emailed seeking one simple answer: Were the genetic tests actually performed, and if so, what were the results? The following hurdles have made a difficult time unbearable: * Deflection: Staff repeatedly tells us to call the hospital for results, despite the oncologist being the one who ordered and insisted on the tests. * Lack of Access: I have been told I cannot speak with the treating physician. I even offered to schedule a formal appointment and pay a co-pay just to get five minutes of the doctor's time for closure, but was told I could only see a Nurse Practitioner. * Zero Follow-through: There has been no empathy or effort to coordinate the retrieval of results from St. David's to provide our family with the answers we were promised. We sacrificed some of my father's final days of comfort based on the medical advice that these tests were necessary. To be ignored now that he is gone is a profound insult to his memory and our family. If this is how they treat a grieving family, I shudder to think how they manage the care of patients currently undergoing treatment. For your own peace of mind and the dignity of your loved ones, I recommend looking elsewhere for oncology care. read more

Texas Oncology, what has happened to you? Right now there is literally NO area of customer service in which you are not epically failing! My husband's annual CT and follow up appointment has been a litany of complete incompetency on the part of this provider. He has made TWO 130 mile round trips TWICE for his CT, only to be told the machine was down. He asked to be called if the machine was inoperable after the first time. Nope, no call, no text, no email. The provider refuses to correct data inaccuracies in his contact information. They give him appointment dates, then call to ask why he did not attend appointments on completely different dates! He can't have the follow up without the CT, and without the follow up, he can't get his prescriptions refilled! At this point, it's incompetency, apathy and downright unprofessional practice; bordering on med-mal! Get your you-know-what together, Texas Oncology!! You are hurting your patients more than you are helping them! read more

He ALWAYS makes himself available and spend and takes his time during office visits to answer all my questions and concerns. He has a great staff and support group working with him. The doctors are ugly, mean little trolls who treat their employees like complete dogs. They talk behind their backs and are completely unprofessional. Dina Tebcherany and Rene Castillo ought to be run out of Austin on a rail. Plus when my catalytic converter was stolen off of my car in the parking lot in broad daylight I asked that they up their security measures but my request fell on deaf ears. I got in trouble for attendance when I missed too many days because my husband had a heart attack. I am an 80 year old man in very poor health that became a patient of this Juarez educated doctor in 2021. Throughout her care I became well acquainted with her characteristic pedantic personality marked by her hubris and ego. During that time she overlooked my obvious deteriorating kidney failure and regularly exaggerated my need for phlebotomies. Nonetheless, I mistakenly thought we shared a trusted and respectful relationship. However and May 21, 2025 she refused to see me after my regular procedure to discuss my troublesome blood work despite a confirmed appointment. When I attempted to schedule another appointment, I was notified by telephone by one of her subordinates that pursuant to a letter I have yet to receive, I was permanently banned from every Texas Oncology facility and all health providers at every facility. I was given no reason or recourse despite my attempts to clarify and resolve any issue that precipitated this unwarranted and extreme action on her part. Her action, of course, has compromised my continuity of care and my reputation. In my opinion she is unprofessional, unethical and irresponsible. The office cancelled my mom's appointment three days prior to her appointment because the weather report said there was a possibility of inclement weather so they shut their office down! First of all, weather can change on a dime and people are coming in for life saving treatments. They could have at least waited to see what the weather was like (it was fine BTW). Moms been a patient here for over ten years. As her disease has progressed, so have her children's concerns. I love how every time my nurse sister needs to call to speak to the care team, she's so told she's not on the list of people who are privy to the patient's information. Today, mom is in the ICU, and it's happening again. Sister called and was denied, despite the fact that mom filled out the paperwork giving this permission multiple times. Sister is 2000 miles away, so I get to drop everything and go there again to ask what the issue is. Three years ago, they moved to a new software system and failed to migrate existing information. I wonder what the excuse will be this time! I'm also a TXO patient, so I'm upset about this from several perspectives. Finally, when I did try to sort out their lack of information management years ago, I was poo pooed by the social worker I spoke with for not accompanying my mother to enough appointments. Highly recommend this office. We love Dr. JENNIFER WRIGHT. Yes they are busy, but their staff cares and they will do their best to accommodate you. I am not a patient but my daughter is and they are doing their best with her care. Yes you have to be An advocate for yourself, speak up, ask questions and stay on top of your care. As a mom of a cancer patient,(2nd time around), I stay involved because chemo brain is real and sometimes you need another ear in the room taking notes. It can be overwhelming for the patient. This South Austin office is horribly run. I have called twice to get medical advice from Dr. Castillo and was never called back. I have made three calls to schedule an appointment and have not been called back by his "scheduler." Apparently they do not have an appointment desk. You can only leave a message for the "scheduler" who does not return the phone call. Also, I can't find any way to complain to the office. I'm not sure they really want to know about any complaints you might have. Not sure they really care! read more

Wonderful, simply wonderful. The staff is super friendly and kind, we have experienced nothing but accuracy in billing and they do keep things moving. One thing to remember is that it can be very crowded on a Monday or a Tuesday after a 3 day weekend. Parking is usually not a problem, but on the above days it can be quite full. I do suggest trying for a different day for an appointment. The waiting area can get quite full, particularly just after the first of the month. What is kind of cool is they have a table set up with a jigsaw puzzle that I swear has several pieces from a different set thrown in just to drive me crazy while keeping me occupied. :-) read more

The worst medical experience of my life. I think it is pretty clear they are focused on volume. The treatment was of course appropriate to the level of risk. But I've never felt so alone in my life and unable to make decisions. You have to go to other health care professionals to deal with that so don't expect that the emotional rollercoaster you experience will be addressed there at all. You will get the usual pamphlets and referrals to agencies and support groups. When you call these agencies they will give you the same information you get from the pamphlets. And, if you can't pay the $300 per month they want when you get the bill after insurance they will refer it to collections who hound me almost every day, several calls per day from different numbers, even Saturdays. I will have this debt for the rest of my life or my predicted 5 year survival rate. I cancelled my follow up appointments because frankly I don't want to owe any more money than I already do. read more

why would anyone give oncologists & hematologists a bad review? these guys are literally saving your life. of course, one never wants to NEED oncology or hematology, but sometimes you get the short end of the shittiest stick ever. the waiting room is huge, filled with people all there for the same reason, and there's a sense of acceptance, peace & pain, all at the same time. it's beautiful & heartbreaking simultaneously. the check in desk is chaotic as all hell, but it is what it is. whatever. the lab is wonderful & fast & so friendly. upstairs, Dr Chada is amazing, caring, and proactive. the nurses are ON IT & the social workers are awesome people. i'm a very upfront & bossy person when it comes to my health. I'm extremely unhappy with the level of service and follow through with Dr. Chadha. I called to ask him a question, and his staff told me that he doesn't talk to patients over the phone. How can you not talk to the people that pay your salary? My question was simple and did not require an office visit. I have the type of job where I can not leave during the day, so not being able to ask "my" doctor a question poses a real problem for me. Mr. Chadha I've been on blood thinners for 3 months, and the DVT has not gone away. Is there anything else I can do besides remain on the medicine? A simple... that is the best course of action for now, would have been sufficient. Would not recommend his assistant either, sarah? - extremely rude and not helpful. Dr. Wright and NP Leigh Wolfe are simply AMAZING. I know they care, they have my back, and will rejoice with me for every little win. Dr. Dang... LOVE HIM. I have to agree with another poster. The appointment staff and the nursing staff need to communicate with each other better. Every time I'm told the scheduler will call back they never do. I have to call and the whole process is a game of run-around. The other day it took 18 minutes for the scheduler to figure out what was going on, why I needed an appointment, etc. Very frustrating and time wasting. That said, the nurses are really caring and great. And Dr. Castillo is fantastic. The organization and communication of the office just needs some tweaking. read more

I have visited this facility twice and don't plan to ever go back. The reception area is just one big chaos. During the first appointment, the PA had no idea why I was there, was not prepared for my appointment. As a result, she referred me to her boss (another appointment and another excessive copay). Was not impressed with the level of service. Both times they overcharged me in copays--and now owe me refund of about 3x what the copay should have been. It has been two months and this cost me several hours on the phone with no result. Billing does not return calls, they don't own up to their mistakes and don't bother fixing them. First, I had to wait for all other claims to clear, which happened almost a month ago. Last week, they said the refund would take another 6-10 weeks. This keeps me from seeing a doctor at a different location, because if I make an appointment, they will put a hold on my refund again. Find a different facility. read more

It is amazing to me that this facility is so unfriendly to people in wheelchairs. From the steep incline up to the front door to the manual heavy wood door leading from the lobby to the radiology dept. naturally no one helps. While I'm negotiating getting my mother in wheelchair through a door barely wide enough (not ADA width, just regular door width), I had to hold the very heavy wooden door with my hip. Go somewhere else. Not here. These people cannot even provide a wheelchair friendly door in what is supposed to be a medical facility. I'm sure they make lots of money though. I have to agree with Margaret S.'s review as she said just about everything I would want to say about TX Onco South. Like Margaret, I am receiving radiation treatments every weekday. It gets frustrating when you show up for your standing appointment on-time each day and TX Onco is late getting you in. It's usually not too late (15-20 minutes or so) but this is every single day for weeks. The techs seem competent and I think they are getting worked to the bone - it seems like they are under a lot of pressure to get the overbooked clientele in and out. The worst part about this office - I mean the worst - is how uncomfortable the waiting room is. It is often crowded and somewhat chaotic, with names being called out constantly. It definitely has the feeling of some kind of state-run clinic. Why can't they have separate waiting rooms for all the different treatments that are being administered there? That would certainly help lessen the chaos. And as Margaret mentioned, there is no privacy in the inside waiting room after you have changed into a gown and are waiting to be called in for radiation treatments. It is uncomfortable to be sitting there in a gown with random people walking through or men waiting for their wives or girlfriends. On a positive note, my radiation oncologist (Dr. Wu) is very patient and kind. Bottom line: this office feels like a cattle call and honestly, I am somewhat creeped out every time I go in. I give it 3 stars (A-OK) because I am happy with the techs and my doctor; it's the management that needs to improve. read more

The work done here is unquestionably important and, for many at least, life saving. I have been very impressed with my doctors (I have three here!) and the staff. My issue is with the general physical space itself. I cannot fathom why the waiting room is so chaotic and uncomfortable. It needs to be bigger and better arranged. The front desk staff just yells out your name when it's your turn. So much for confidentiality! In addition, I often have to fit my appointments around my work schedule so I appreciate being seen promptly when I arrive. I have made the effort to be there on time. I waited almost an hour when I had my first appointment. Yesterday I arrived for my first radiation treatment and when I walked in no one greeted me or even acknowledged me. I sat on an uncomfortable chair crammed in with other patients and their families for 45-50 minutes before anyone even talked to me. I was then instructed to go change but there were only small gowns available in the dressing room. I wasn't exactly eager to go wait in a tiny chair in the waiting area wearing an ill fitting patient gown open to the front. Not exactly comfortable, comforting, reassuring, or discreet. I was scared and nervous to be getting the treatment, even though I'm an RN. I let the staff know I was unhappy about the situation and they were apologetic but why couldn't someone have come up to me st the start and explained they were running behind? That's common courtesy! That sloppiness doesn't give me a huge degree of confidence about getting serious treatment here. Doing important work (and they do) isn't in itself enough. It should and can be done well. Texas Oncology needs to rethink their processes. If they are not going to honor appointment times then build a nicer, better lit, quieter and more comfortable space for their patients to wait in. And please quit screaming out patient names! Time for a refit big time. The patients here deserve to be treated better. As it is, I feel every time like I'm at this facility I never know how it's going to go. There needs to be a better customer service approach and their billing practices are opaque. I've had numerous appts with the doctors that I see here and never been charged a copay before I go in to see the doctor. Today I was asked for a copay and when I questioned this I was met with resistance and huffiness. I have found, regarding the financial area, that the staff gets very defensive if you ask questions. They always ask if you want to speak to a financial counselor. I tried that once and I was insulted by this individual when she haughtily told me "I know what my insurance covers don't you?" Well yes, lady, yes I do but I also know that there are negotiated prices between providers and insurance carriers and it's almost impossible for a patient to know what the negotiated reimbursement for a particular service is going to be. My dentist office staff gets this information for the patient. Bottom line: Texas Oncology makes a lot of money. A LOT. Put some of that money into your facility physical space, staff training and processes. Kudos to the pharmacy however. That has actually been a pleasant experience. read more

My husband see a Dr. MEEMEHAM at the James Casey location. For cancer. My husband also see Dr. WU . Dr. Wu office and nurses are on top of it. Every time I call to get results I have to go through Dr Meemeham nurse. I don't know who she is but she never returns calls. Instead she calls Dr Wu nurse and that sweet girl calls us bac. We'll I called yesterday due to an email that was sent to us. I couldn't get into the portal so I needed assistance. No call back as of yet which doesn't surprise me. I LOVE my medical oncologist at the S. Austin location. I HATE their billing company. I paid my bill IN FULL back in March. In May, I get another statement. Not much, but I shouldn't be billed for anything. I call the # on the statement and leave a message to have someone call me. A person calls right when I'm finishing up a Zoom and I ask her to call me back in 5 min. She calls back. I admit, I never got her name as she was not clear and sounded sleepy at 3:00p in the afternoon. I ask several times and several different ways for her to 1. tell me the "previous patient responsibility" balance before my last appointment (12/19). She can't seem to do that. 2. IN ORDER, each "patient responsibility" and date since last appt. to now. She can't seem to do that either. 3. When I try to correct her or ask a question, she tells me I keep interrupting. 4. Why am I getting 2 statements? Apparently from some OLD system from 2018.??? 5. She keeps talking down to me and throwing around $ numbers that were billed, ins. payments, patient payments, etc. I paid the 2 statements I received in March. She tells me she doesn't see a March payment, she shows one post April 4, (?) but there is still a balance. My payment from my HSA account shows it paid March! I feel like they delay posting and I am now charged a late fee. 6. She finally tells me I need to call the center where I was treated and/or look at my EOB's. AND, that she can hang up on me! She was unbelievably rude, condescending and patronizing! I truly feel for other patients with "chemo brain" who have to deal with their billing dept! She should be fired and I told her so. She doesn't know who to talk to patients about their bills! I think this billing company is nickel and diming me and sending out bogus bills! I now have a call into "Rick" at the local center of treatment instead of some big billing co. that bills for all of Texas Oncology. read more

I first met Dr Kamath in the hospital the morning after I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She took the time to explain what needed to happen and get me scheduled for surgery a couple days later (she thought it would be the following week.) The surgery did NOT go as planned but she was there when I woke up and explained enough to me to know I was OK and she would see me in the morning (it was after midnight at this point and my surgery should have been done around 3:30!) She has continued to be my one and only oncologist and has always been very knowledgeable and personable. Her staff and coworkers have always been amazing! From the front door temperature screeners, check-in desk, phlebotomy techs (including nurses for my port), infusion and pharmacy staff and the rest of the team in Dr Kamath's office have all been amazing. I always felt cared for and was provided timely and necessary education along the way. Even the billing folks have been great to work with (even when my insurance company has been less than helpful...) I don't dread going back for each appointment. read more

So I've been going here since I was diagnosed with stage IIIb melanoma almost a full two years ago at the tender age of 30. I've spent a lot of time here. A lot of time. Much of that time hooked up to machines that were spewing toxic chemicals into my veins, other times just to be x-rayed or the ever-popular blood draws. Yes, it is not pleasant; but I can't imagine a nicer group of people to have to go though this with. Everyone, and I mean everyone I've ever encountered here has been happy, kind, and upbeat. It's really amazing, I think. For the vast majority of my infusions, I was alone (family lives in Fort Worth, I didn't have any super close friends at the time and no girlfriend at the time.) and they never let me feel alone. Snacks and blankets and positive thoughts really mean a lot to you when you're stuck in a reclining chair for three or four hours a day slowly watching an IV bag drip into you. It's never fun to have to go to an oncologist. Ever. Even for good news. I'm still paying off my chemo (thanks, insurance!) but I'm still alive, and healthy, and as good as I can possibly be. It's always a very positive experience, despite the fact that there is more sickness in the waiting room than I'd ever seen before in my life. Not that many people have a choice, but if you do need to see an oncologist (and I sincerely hope you don't need to) I can't recommend this location of Texas Oncology enough. I hope to be a patient here for a long time! read more

I had to go here for some suspicious blood test results, and since the further lab work turned out okay, I only had to go here twice (fortunately for me). Both times I didn't get in to see the doctor until at least an hour past the appointment time. I'm fortunate that I wasn't feeling ill like so many people in the waiting room that were waiting way past their appointment time. One patient that was obviously in for treatment got up, yelled at the office staff about the wait, and stormed out. Can't say that I blame him. On top of the long wait time, they messed up the lab work from the first round of blood that they drew ("forgot" to run some of the tests), so when I went back for what I thought was just a follow-up appointment, they drew another 8 vials of blood. Then they wondered why my blood pressure was high. Now I've received a bill for over $4,000 and I have good, full insurance coverage. I'm waiting for a call back from the "finance counselor" to find out why they didn't bill my insurance company. Remember that all I've had here were 2 office visits and blood tests/lab work. And I've already paid 2 other bills that came in for small dollar amounts. The one positive note is that the nursing staff and the receptionists have all been very sweet and kind and sympathetic when I questioned how much longer I would be waiting (was trying to reschedule work meetings). That's why they got 2 stars instead of zero. They really need to work on their appointment scheduling. I hope I never have to go to an oncology center again, but if I do I'll do my best to avoid this one. read more
