We decided to try this little place as we were told the pot pies were really good. The Texas Pie Company is located downtown, Kyle. The restaurant is nice with a homey feel. All 3 of us ordered the special, which was reasonably priced. The pot pies came with a salad and a roll with unsweetened tea. The pot pies were really good with a nice creamy filling and chunks of chicken with a really nice airy crust. The tea was great and severed with a lemon. Salad was good, we had ranch dressing. There is not much to choose from in the way of dressings. It's either ranch or vinaigrette. But the ranch was good as well. Drinks, there are no fountain drinks, just tea and a few can sodas. Not my pick restaurants with can soda. You order at the counter, and they call your number and bring it to you. Not a big fan on that either. Im used to the traditional take your order at the table, but these are just my preferences. Service to the table was super fast. All and all was a nice lunch. Pot pies you can buy anytime, but if you want the special where it comes hot to the table, you need to be there friday and I would be there before noon because they do sell out. This place is really known for their pies and let me tell you we bought a dutch apple pie and was amazing. Really nice crust with a nice crunch. Filling was nice, fresh, and tasty. When I moved here in 2017, I didn't know that Kyle was the pie capital of Texas. Texas pie Company has great little individual pies and their chicken pot pie is to die for. If you call ahead they will cook the chicken pot pie for you so it's already warm when you pick it up or you can get it frozen and cook it yourself at home. They have a cute little dining restaurant and some quick and delicious lunch options for sandwiches. I love everything here and the service is great. read more

With Kyle TX hosting a Pie Festival, the legend of Texas Pie Co., and the big attention getting slice of pie on the top of the building, I expected the pie to be better. We tried the peach, chocolate, and cherry pie and came away disappointed. The Cherry was actually bitter and the peach was bland. The chocolate was good but seemed gritty. We go here VERY frequently and always leave with a stomach full of pie... Unfortunately, this place will end your New Year's resolution within seconds, but will greatly satisfy your tastebuds. This is definitely worth the trade-off. In fact, our family is SO obsessed with this place to where we basically have an opinion on every single flavor of pie. Here is our list: Our top favorites: -Pecan (heat it up to activate the fall flavors or eat it as is for a more mellow taste) -Key lime (special crust, as if they infuse the lime sauce into it. The downside is you don't get as much pie for their $5 mini, so get their large size) -Almond joy (my favorite flavor! Coconut, chocolate chips, shaved almonds and a d'éclosions filling can all be found in this pie. Creamy, yet crunchy) -Coconut (this is basically the Almond Joy flavor, but with only the filling and coconut. Tastes less crunchy and more creamy compared to almond joy because of the increase filling amount) -Dutch apple (add whipped cream/vanilla ice cream!!) The good-but-not-perfect-flavors: -Buttermilk (very creamy and silky but can be rich at times) -Cherry (tastes better heated up and topped with whipped cream. Needs more berries) -Blueberry (same thing as cherry; needs more berries, and it goes better heated up and with whipped cream) -Coconut Cream SLICE (needs some more crunch to it; it just tastes too soft to decipher it well. It's kinda like if you ate straight-up whipped cream) The 'mehhh...' flavors: -Lemon (Wayyy too much sugar! Your kids might like this, I guess... it's like super sugary lemonade) -Fudge pecan (the 'fudge' part tastes like brownie batter...) -Chocolate fudge (tastes like brownie batter, too) The bad flavors: -Strawberry peach (they bake the fruit with the pie, causing the pie to be very dry. And, there is no filling to save you from the awful taste) -Strawberry rhubarb (ok, we lied - we never actually tried this flavor, but based off the previous pie, it probably sucks in taste) -Peach (same thing as above) Unknown flavors (we haven't tried them) -Blackberry (they removed the flavor :[ ) -Peanut butter mouse SLICE -Chocolate SLICE Hopefully, we won't get unhealthy after having a feasting frenzy of pie... wish us luck. (P.S: Oh, I forgot a few flavors. Well, kinda of. You see, they also have CHESSECAKES, but I don't know much about them. In fact, their chessecakes are so secret that they don't even feature it on the physical menu next to the entrance of the real store. They do offer info on their website though. I was so excited to try this place and so when I heard they were going to be at the cowboy breakfast I couldn't wait my husband is a disabled veteran and I'm also disabled so I had my grandson stand in line and grab our samples when my grandson comes back he's upset because the girl was rude and told him she only brought 2000 pies and there was way too many people in line, why was that something you felt you had to tell my sweet helpful grandson? 2nd time I've had them, so now I'll write. I get it, home made pie conjures up all those vintage homespun feelings. But honesty for me these just aren't that great. And I won't be buying them again. Don't get the minis unless you want A LOT of crust. Like.. a 6 in circular tray of butter and sugar. There's like NO fruit in these. And the big apple was so sweet, it had the sugar of store bought, only 4x more expensive. I've considered calling them to complain. I would have written an email but it's not worth the phone call. Oh how I've missed this place. We stopped by and picked up a pecan pie and a mini lemon chess pie. Both were so delicious. They have the best crust that's light, flakey, and buttery. We stopped by here this Saturday afternoon around 0300. We got a slice of pie- my husband got the coconut pie and I got the chocolate cream pie. While the pies were good, we thought the price was a bit high for the pie. Also, they didn't let us sit and eat the pies in the restaurant since the kitchen closed at 0200. We got the snickerdoodle and the strawberry rhubarb small pies and then a slice of the chocolate cream pie and all of it was sooo decadent! The snickerdoodle was amazing but borderline overly sweet but the other two OMG! The strawberry rhubarb was our favorite, the perfect balance of sweet and tart. The servers weren't rude as other reviewers have said, but they weren't necessary helpful either. She answered my questions but didn't tell us where we could sit (the chairs were on the tables in the area you order and drapes separated the "dining room"). I'm not a pie person, but I really did enjoy the pies I ordered from Texas Pie Company for a Friendsgiving celebration in Austin just a few weeks ago. Ordering online is super simple and you can choose whether you want your pies shipped overnight or pick up. I had initially chosen pick up because I would be in the area, however I didn't realize how far away the actual bakery is from the Austin city center. Luckily, I called ahead and explained the situation -- that I didn't really want to drive 45 minutes each way and could they ship the pies to my friend's house in Austin instead? Not only did they oblige, they offered me a very reasonable rate for overnight shipping. Normally it'd be about $10 per pie, but they did a flat rate for all three pies! Such nice people and such delicious pies! They shipped as promised and arrived the day before our celebration. I was a fan of the strawberry rhubarb and the lemon pie. The guys in our group demolished the seasonal pumpkin/praline pie. Glad I bought all three and would totally recommend to anyone in the ATX area, or if you really want a home-baked pie from the south, have one shipped to your house wherever you live in the US. read more
