Been wanting to try this place out since I discovered it. But wanted to save it for when out of town guests come. However, I recently caved in and tried it! My grandmother loved cherry pie and I have fond memories of making it. The anniversary of her passing came and I decided I wanted to make something she loved to honor her. Well I had no cake or pie ingredients to bake with but as I was thinking about what I could make in honor of her I was starting to drive toward the pie place. And I thought: how about I see if they have a cherry pie! And they did! So I bought a mini pie. Just big enough for me. Which was nice that they had small portions if you didn't want to have a huge pie. They had many flavors and I was surprised to see they also sold food like sandwiches and salads and some breakfast items like quiche. Would love to bring my family here for sure when they visit. The best part was is that the pie wasn't too sweet at all which I actually liked! I eat very healthy so when I splurge I sometimes still don't want it to be too sweet and this wasn't. It was perfect balance of sweetness from the filling and savory from the crust. So no sugar coma when you come here! At least not with the cherry pie;) read more

The dessert was a 10/10. The customer service... let's just say the sugar was all in the dessert.

One of the few small businesses in the Kyle downtown area and they definitely have good staying power. We came towards closing and the staff were still super welcoming and friendly (not pushy about closing or rushing us out). They have a lot of classic pie options from cherry, apple, pecan, and various mixes of fruits or some cream pies. Its not a spot for any like "modern" or avant garde flavor combos but sometimes you just want a classic pie. I like that they have individual sized pies so we were able to try multiple. My favorite was the pecan (in general my favorite pie so take that info together), I thought it was a very great classic pecan pie with a touch of cinnamon? which worked very well. The other pies we tried were ok, the fillings all tasted good but felt a bit on the dry side (strawberry rhubarb, peach, and cherry). I'm not sure if its cause the individual sizes make the crust/crumble to filling ratio a bit off? Regardless, I still think they're good just nothing amazing. The service and staff really won me over though! They even gave us a free chicken pot pie as a welcome and to let us know they have chicken pot pies on Saturdays. We like to find small locally owned restaurants to try when we travel. So we stopped in for lunch and to grab dessert for later. We had egg salad sandwiches and a salad. The egg salad was good but the sourdough bread was a little dry for me. They had a great selection of pies that were available in small individual size or full size. We got 4 to try- lemon, buttermilk, blueberry and a slice of peanut butter chocolate. I didn't care for the buttermilk, but the rest were good. We drove out here because it is one of the very, very few places that offer Strawberry Rhubarb pie. They seem to offer a lot of options which is nice. The woman working the counter when we went was about as warm and friendly as a wet blanket. Not a great first impression. The strawberry rhubarb pie was okay but definitely not my favorite. I feel like it might be better without the top which was undercooked and gooey. I personally like when a strawberry rhubarb pie has a mild tartness and is just sweet enough to take off the edge. I've been wanting to try the pies from here so I made a pit stop here while driving back home to San Antonio from Round Rock. I stepped inside and was waited on by a Hispanic lady who wasn't rude but not friendly either. I just wanted a couple of pie slices so I browsed the inventory and ordered a slice of key lime pie and a slice of chocolate cream. Total came out to about $14, which seemed a bit pricey per slice. Maybe Texas Pie Company used to be a bit cheaper before inflation hit. I kept the 2 slices in my fridge overnight and ate both and they were very good. The only minor annoyance is the parking. You have to park along a busy main road and even though the speed limit is 25 uphill, backing out can be a bit of a drag and a roll of the dice of possibly getting hit by a careless or an inpatient driver. Luckily for me, a Kyle PD officer was nice enough to let me back out so I could head on back home. read more

Popped in for the second time to pick up a variety of pies. I love pies! And I make pies, so I consider myself a novice at eating pies. While lemon pound cake is not pie, it was my favorite of all I bought. The pecan pie is made with cinnamon coated pecans, so if that's your thing, you are in luck. Sadly the fudge chocolate pie was crystallized. Which I believe is due to time (not sure). Key lime pie was on point, sans the heavy cream on top. I have wanted to visit this pie shop for over five years, but their limited hours always made it impossible. During a recent trip, I finally had the chance to stop in. The pies are undeniably incredible--the two five-inch pies we ordered were easily the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, the product is the only thing this business has going for it. The service was nonexistent, and the staff member treated our questions as an annoyance, acting as if we were wasting her time. If it hadn't been for a kind customer nearby raving about the food, we would have walked out empty-handed. While the pies are great, the service is awful. I'll stop by if I'm passing through, but I certainly won't be making the three-hour round trip just to be treated poorly. read more

Our family has enjoyed having lunch and desert here on numerous trips between Lockhart & Wimberley. Yesterday we stopped again for some pies to take to our family renuion. We were very disappointed as the pies one apple and one peach had one layer of fruit and then a gelatinous mixture for two thirds of the filling. At $30.00 a pie, you rae better off purchasing a Mrs. Smiths and baking it yourself. Please see attached photos. To add an insult they added a 4% service charge to a card purchase. This is a quaint, friendly place with amazing pies. Coconut cream, chocolate fudge and Buttermilk are among my family favorites. I also like their lemon squares. Came here as a result of seeing it on an episode of "The Day Tripper". Can only speak for the (to go) small pies since I didn't eat there. So far the strawberry rhubarb and Dutch apple were fantastic... heated at 350 degrees for 20+ minutes. Looking forward to trying the peach and cherry. UPDATE: The peach and cherry were excellent. I think my order of enjoyment was: strawberry rhubarb, cherry, apple, peach. Reasonable prices. Liked the ability to buy multiple small pies at $6 a piece instead of one big pie at $26. UPDATE: Upon arriving back to Dallas, I tried the strawberry rhubarb pie from USA TODAY's #5 Pie Shop in America (Grapevine, Texas). Texas Pie Company's crust is better but the #5's strawberry rhubarb filling was slightly better with slightly more sweet / tangy taste. If prices were similar, #5 spot would have just squeaked over as "the best" of the two but since their small pies are $17 and regular pies $45, Texas Pie Company has the edge. If only they were closer! The service was just "eh", probably judged a bit more harshly after seeing the engaging owner (Julie) on Daytripper who was no where to be found on my visit. Visited the Texas Pie Company for the first time on a saturday afternoon. There was a short line but the service was quick and the ladies at the counter were friendly. I ordered two small pies to go-Cherry and buttermilk. Wow! The Cherry had the perfect amount of tartness and crumble topping and the buttermilk was amazing. Just the right amount of sweetness. I've got to say the pie crust is the best I've ever had, flaky and buttery. I will definitely be back and that says a lot because I live 45 minutes away! Coming here for lunch is like going to your grandma's house. Cozy antique interior, grandma's recipe pies, and good ole family recipe meals. We ate the chicken salad, ham and cheese sandwiches, peach crumb pie, and a s'mores bar. All were delicious!! They also have casserole style dishes you can buy frozen to take home; think beef stroganoff, chicken pot pie, etc. Only improvement - I'd love to see more descriptions on the menu in person (what comes on each salad, dressing offerings, etc!). This is by far one of the best pie places found this year. My wife came across this shop because of my love for pie. Located in Kyle, Texas. Not as far of a drive as one might think. It is certainly a destination and worth your time for a day trip. We drove here in 30 minutes and plenty of street parking out front. Kyle is a very cute community with a great looking historical hub. You can spend your afternoon here browsing the shop windows within the vicinity of this establishment. We came here for the pies, so there was no browsing anywhere else but here. Lucky for us, they were dog friendly and brought our pup to join us inside. Plenty of seating available in this very cute, cute restaurant. You are quickly entertained by the walls, adorned by things you would spot in your grandmothers kitchen. The staff is very friendly and welcoming! A giant display of pies upfront for everyone to eyeball as you walk over and take a seat and lots to choose from! I ordered the chicken pot pie and my wife the egg salad sandwich for lunch and a coconut cream pie for dessert. On our way out. I ordered four extra small pies for the road. their famous pecan pie was suggested, also the peach pie, the chocolate covered cheesecake, and the strawberry rhubarb. We stepped up to the counter and the staff member working (I didn't catch her name) was efficient and got us everything we needed. We ordered a blueberry Dutch pie, a fudge pecan pie, a buttermilk pie, and a peach pie, all in the 6 inch mini sizes. We have only dug in to the blueberry so far, but it was delicious!
