I was referred to the Texas Regional Eye Center years ago for cataract surgery, but didn't do anything about it. WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG? Each staff member was friendly and helpful, and Dr. Young was kind and professional. My surgery was two days ago -- easy and painless, and less than two hours from walking in to walking out. I like the doctors and the nurses/assistants are all great as well but I don't like having to pay a refraction charge of $40 which insurance doesn't cover and never has and if one goes to an optometrist for a script there is not a refraction charge. I declined the script as the doctor said there was only a 5% change in vision and my current glasses are working well and when I declined a script at past ophthalmologist's office there was no refraction charge and yet this office still insists the charge is valid. If valid then why doesn't insurance ever pay? If it were medically necessary then I would think insurance would have to pay. And why don't optometrists charge for such? And why not give the choice to the patient up front if they want refraction or not? If it were just the doctors and nurses/assistants I would give them a 5 star rating but because of the billing practice I want to give it a 2 or 3 star rating but will relent and give overall as 4 stars. read more

Great Doctors and great staff ! It takes a while to get an appointment but what doesn't? It's worth the wait...

They are the best eye center in Brazos County and I want to first put this point straight. If one has more complicated issues such as eye pressure, cornea or optic nerves, etc., usually one has to go to Houston to find a doctor if the Texas Regional Eye Center is not here. Fortunately, we have them and they are a professional team. The front desk staffs are welcoming, willing to listen, and efficient at appointment scheduling. Specially thanks to Dr. (Prof.) James Lee, who I have been frequently visiting. Dr. James Lee is not only an experienced doctor but also a top researcher/Professor who always explains everything to me in an understandable way. He is able to quickly identify where the problem is and his prescriptions always work. He listens to my own understanding of the problem patiently and treats me equally as a friend. I know he is very special. I highly suggest anyone who believes she/he deserves better eye treatment in Brazos to try the Texas Regional Eye Center, especially if the condition is difficult to tackle. The vision issue is non-trivial and certainly worth your try with them. read more

I was seen by Dr. Allison Sept. 9th 2022 for an annual eye exam as a new patient. I was not given my prescription that day as I was told I need to wear trial contacts 1st and then come back for another consultation. I wore said trials for a week and then came back in, I told them my vision did not seem as sharp as my previous prescription from another office(Had to switch eye drs due to ins. change). They then ordered me more trials which were back ordered. After 2 months of wearing the same original contacts(called multiple times to check status) and no one offering to give me any contacts to get me by in the mean time, I finally went into their office and demanded my prescription so I could order contacts. They refused to give it to me(even after speaking again with Dr. Allison letting him know the situation) and said they would order some trials that could get here sooner! I left that day very unhappy but no one seemed to care. I finally went to a different eye doctor and just payed out of pocket for an exam in order to get my prescription that Texas regional was holding hostage from me. I will never be back to Texas regional and will not recommend to anyone!! read more

I got Lasik here and the process was great! Everyone here is so caring and helpful. Dr. Varvel did my surgery and everything went well. It's not even 24 hours after and I can already see so much better than I could before. I highly recommend Texas Regional Eye Center if you are looking into getting Lasik!!! read more

I used to think they were okay, but a couple years after the fact, I found out that they ripped me off! They sold me 174 lenses at a very high price. They weren't thin, but they warned that they might not be much thinner due to my Rx. I'm glasses shopping now and three other business have confirmed that I not only do I not have 174, nor 167, but have generic no name lens. They ripped me off! read more

I went to the Optical Center part of the building and asked them if they could use my new Oakley frames to make prescription lenses. They said sure and I left my glasses frame with them. I wear a small. When I came to pick them up, a larger Oakley frame was substituted and of course no amount of adjustment would make them fit. Luckily they were stolen soon after. They did not ever return my original pair of sunglasses. For this I paid $400.00. I will never use the Optical Center again. read more

I would like to share my customer experience with Texas Regional Eye Center. My wife and I schedule our appointment two weeks in advance at 0800 this morning. After arriving early - before any other patients, having our paperwork filled out, we waited....and after 15 minutes past our appointment time, we asked if there was an issue, and were told, "The doctors could be late, and just because we were first in the office, doesn't mean we will be seen first, and we would be seen shortly." My appointment time was for 0800, and my wife's was for 0820. Five other people were called before my wife, then she was called in, then an additional two other people were called. At 0830, I was still not called back. There are only five doctors listed, and I was still not seen. By this time the waiting room had more than 25 people in it. I informed the staff that I was leaving, and that I was 30 minutes past my appointment time. If you were interviewing an applicant for a position, would you hire them if they showed up 30 minutes late? I would not recommend Texas Regional Eye Center to anyone, unless they want to spend long amounts of time waiting. read more

I have been here twice and both times I had to wait over 30 mins. I saw two different eye doctor for different reasons both were short and they made me feel like they had better things to do. On top of that I drove over and hour to this eye clinic and they didn't have a trial pair of contacts on my power in stock. In order for them to mail them to me they want to charge me $10 just will not go back and will not order my contacts from these people read more

Long waits are the norm! We arrived well ahead of time and when I informed the front desk that we had been waiting for well over an hour their response was dissapointing. I was told that hour plus long waits are normal. If you have nothing better to do with your time, then this is the place for you. read more

I am 60yrs old and have put off having the YAG procedure for removing cataract cells with a laser for nearly a year because I thought the cost would be prohibitive. Finally my left eye vision was so cloudy that I was handicapped for night driving. I emailed the TX Regional Eye Center to inquire about the procedure, cost etc. I was answered within hours with the cash cost and appt availability. I read up some on the internet about the procedure and then price shopped at 2 other facilities. Dr Wuthrich had appts available in less than a week and a laser surgery time available 4 days after that so I booked. My experience of the staff and Dr W was excellent thru the entire exam and I was very confident after reading about Dr W's experience. The day of the surgery the entire process of paper work, payment, eye dilation, eye numbing and 2 minute painless laser procedure was maybe 2 hrs. Afterwards I had blurriness and no discomfort for one evening and the next day I looked out of the window across my field and was stunned at how bright and clear my vision was. All day I have been pleasantly surprised at how crisp the world looks. I wish I had not waited so long to have this simple yet amazingly powerful procedure done. read more
