Urban Optics remains the top tier optometry practice in Central Texas. I am still traveling from Austin to beat the scammy, overrated places over there. Hunter was exceptionally accommodating and got me from the waiting room to the doctor's office in no time. Dr. McClain is a no frills, straight to the point guy -- incredibly thoughtful, too. The phone staff is awesome, especially Addison. Thank god there is no automated system...this is where Urban Optics goes above and beyond. The contact fitting went super well (once again thanks to Hunter) and I'm loving the dailies Dr. McClain picked out. There are no hidden costs here -- everything is upfront and clear. I never felt as if I was being price gouged. I even got a $3,000 eye drop prescription for $0 (thanks to the doc and my insurance). I'm happy to call this place my favorite optometry practice! From the first second of entering this very fine looking establishment and then 45 minutes later exiting, the experience was truly delightful. The initial greeting and check in by Mary Ellen started the visit off on a high note. Then I was ushered into the pre exam room by a very capable young man, Hunter, who administered all of the pre-examination screenings. Very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable young lad! After which I was taken to Dr. Greene's examination suite. Dr. Greene performed an absolutely thorough testing of all aspects of my visual capabilities after which he gave my results in a very professional manner. I've been a patient here since childhood, and I've always appreciated the doctor's care. However, the service from the front staff has become increasingly inconsistent. My recent appointment was significantly delayed, and this hasn't been the first time scheduling and check-in have not been handled well. The doctor is not the issue, but the staff's lack of organization affects the overall experience. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that it leads to improvements, because I value this practice and would like to continue coming here. read more

We live in Crockett where we have 1 place for eye care. Tried them twice, so rude, never again, but that a story for another review. So, we come to BCS with done regularity and decided to give Urban Optics a try while in town. Appointment made, was seen on time, staff are amazingly friendly, cheerful even and helpful. Felt immediately welcomed. The doctor we saw was thorough (my husband is retired now but this is his field so he's very persnickety, and he was pleased). I'm confident the eye exam and lenses my wife and I ordered, would have worked well, if we had the time to wait, but our travel plans didn't allow for it. They moved their office before our lenses arrived from the lab, and my lenses were lost in transit. It had already been 3 weeks, so I decided to move on. I requested a full refund and they obliged. No hard feelings on my end, but next time they move, I would suggest they have lenses shipped overnight during their transition. We re-scheduled with Crystal Vision Center. read more

These are liars and cheaters, look out - they are soft-spoken and smartly dressed. They lied to me for months about ordering frames for me, all the while trying to upsell me on the stuff they had in stock. Eventually the manager apologized and offered a "discount" on my daughters' glasses. I had to ask three times to remove options my daughter did not need - a few were expensive, and the manager tried really hard to sneak them in. I checked with insurance on how much they claimed from insurance for the glasses - they overcharged me by 40%. The receipt I got is a complete work of fiction. The manager pocketed my insurance benefit and charged over and above what insurance allows. All the while claiming that he gave us a discount. read more

oh my goodness. When i came into my appointment today i was literally shaking because i was starved and energy depleted. Amazing, wonderful, beautiful Cierra got me almonds, an orange, and a diet coke. I felt like i was fine dining at Nobu. She then took the place of my best friend for the short time I was there and gave me amazing advice in which frames i should choose, and even got me a great deal and i ended walking out with TWO PAIRS of glasses ordered. Really nice people. But they suck at making glasses. Im on my third pair and they just can't get it right.

My sight wasn't terrible so I was hesitant to come into see a doctor. But their people are super nice and the equipment they use is the latest top of the line tools. They don't have to dilate my eyes like in the "old days". I was in and out in less than half an hour, understanding my vision issues and their recommendations. I have always loved Dr. Greene at Urban Optics. I've been going there for years, even after moving all the way into North Bryan, and I'll still make the trip to South College Station to see him. He's kind, his staff are super friendly, and he's very accommodating when you aren't quite sure what you want or need. I can't tell you how many times he's let me try different samples while trying to find the perfect contacts for my eyes. Terrible customer service! I made an appointment online and then called to reschedule it. When I showed up for my rescheduled appointment, they didn't have me down. They made no attempt to fit me in when I explained that I lived an hour away and had made a special trip for the appointment, and it was their error for not changing the original appointment. There was no one in the waiting room, and several technicians standing around. After all the reviews, I expected more from them. Dr. Green is fantastic - very helpful and takes the time to explain what is happening with your eyes. They also carry Crizal lenses which are the best I've ever had. Can't say enough good things about Urban Optics. Best eye appointment I've had in nearly 5 years. Dr. Greene was super cheerful and straightforward about what I needed (and didn't need). The staff were friendly and competent. I found Rachel particularly customer-oriented, as she was patient through my selection between multiple frame choices. The selection of frames are fantastic here, comparable to what you would see in a larger market (unlike any other place I've seen in BCS). Prices are reasonable for those with EyeMed coverage.
