Scheduled my annual free eye exam (covered by my insurance). Told before exam I needed to have a "refraction test" ($89 extra) and a "OCT Nerve" test ($110 extra) and a "EB Sight Sync" test ($49 extra). Was told that $68 of these tests would not be covered by my insurance. After my exam I was told that I still owe $149 out-of-pocket. Also, I was prescribed new lenses for $695. For the prior two years my insurance covered my lenses but now their new lab supposedly does not take my insurance. Was never told this prior to my exam knowing what insurance I have. Got a better quality lens for $168 out-of-pocket at Walmart Vision Center. My appointment was at 1:30. Actually saw the doctor at 2:45, and then spent another hour discussing and arguing about the charges and insurance coverage. This was a terrible experience and I will not be going back there again. Make sure you discuss all costs and have your insurance evaluated before going there! I think they push unnecessary charges also. read more

Pushes unnecessary services that are not needed. Tried to push both an OCT test and a fully dilated eye exam when one clearly was not needed and this was confirmed by my doctor who does this every year for me. After explaining this to the optometrist, she still was pushy and said she recommends it to all of her diabetic patients. I told her my A1C's have never been above 5.3 and I am a well controlled type 1 diabetic for whom it would be impossible to tell that I am diabetic from a detailed review of all my blood tests ever that I'm even diabetic. Save yourself the 40 dollars, don't get that OCT test if you don't have to(ask your doctor). Better yet, just don't go here. So to recap, don't let them push the OCT test if it isn't necessary. A fully dilated eye exam part of a comprehensive eye exam is good enough in most cases. Talk to your doctor. Ask questions. read more

Highly unprofessional and insensitive people. My son got a very high prescription. I requested a rush shipping and they assure that it will be done quickly but still more than 17 days and still waiting. I paid about $450 for a pair of glasses which I could have easily made in $250 outside their shop but since it was rush shipping I wanted to get it done quickly. Till now there is no proper answer why I was told to be given quick, just to take the order? How greedy!!!! Completely fed up with my experience at Eye Care Center, had my eye exam, ordered new glasses, the optician made no mention of how thick my lenses would be, or that there were thickness options when the frame that I chose was a thin metal. Dr. Dobson also persuaded me to add a "boost" to my lenses (not quite bifocals) which proved to be completely worthless, and I was told they could take the boost off at any time. Yes, they did remake the thick lenses to thinner, at a cost. Each time that I have been there, there has been an up charge for something. I was not seeing any better than with my previous prescription, they offered to make the frame into a wrap, which meant that the magnetic sunglasses would no longer fit, so now I'm looking at having to order sunglasses. The end result after 5 visits and possibly 2 more, as they will have to send in and have the lenses remade again without the boost, which I am sure I will have to pay for. I've been happily going to Dr. Dobson for over a year now, and am always welcomed by her and her staff. I'm impressed by the new technology they are constantly using, and the good customer service I get as soon as I step in the door. I bought a new pair of glasses that were very affordable and have lasted a very long time - I'm so glad I have them. By the way, if you plan on getting new glasses I recommend spending the extra money on the no-glare no scratch lens they are well worth the extra money. read more

Dr. Belinda Dobson has been my eye doctor for over 5 years. I recently switched to a Blue Cross/Blue Shield HMO and she is no longer in my network... SO I PAY CASH to keep her as my eye doctor! Want details why? read on... This is my third YELP of Dr. B. Since my LAST yelp, I have had a detached retina. Surgery was about 3 months ago, so I have been wearing my old glasses until about two weeks ago when my ophthalmologist released me to get both my contact and my glasses prescription updated. (Following surgery, the vision in the repaired eye improves on an almost daily basis for a couple of months, hence the wait. Also pertinent to getting corrective lenses is the fact that there is still some damage to my macula... more on that later.) Dr B. put me in a "test pair" of contacts, and when I returned 2 weeks later (i.e. TODAY) she could see how disappointed I was that I was no longer able to see 20/20 in my multi-focal contacts. Again... because there is damage to my macula, vision in my damaged eye can only be corrected to 20/60 -- In my whiniest voice I told Doctor Dobson, "DOC, I CAN'T READ ROAD SIGNS UNTIL I AM RIGHT ON TOP OF THEM!" I had all but resigned myself to having to wear glasses full time, and give up on contacts altogether, but Doc would hear nothing of it. She worked with me for over an hour. We discussed options. She had me try several different contacts. She went beyond the science, and as a genuine CARE PROVIDER, found (I dare say CREATED) a solution that works for me. Since NO stars isn't an option, this place gets 1, which is very gracious. As a medical professional, I went here on the recommendation of a friend. At my first appointment, even though I had filled out my paperwork prior to arriving, I was left waiting in the lobby for over 45 minutes. The lobby is filled with MonaVie products that they want to sell you, along with a collection of foul smelling candles placed hap hazardly on the counters. It looks very trashy and unprofessional. I made my appointment with Dr Dobson, so was very surprised when Dr Simpson greeted me. She apologized and went on to explain that her colleague had yet to return from lunch, and that she wasn't answering her cell phone. Ummmm WTF? I was then examined, and told that my previous eye Dr was a quack and that my Rx was all wrong. I was then taken up front to try dome contacts and glasses on. Despite having insurance, upon checkout, I was told I owed over $400, and that's AFTER what my insurance was going to cover. I was scheduled to return in 1 week. As a nurse, my schedule was weird, and it ended up being 3 weeks until I was able to return. They explained to me that they have a 2 week cutoff, and that I know owed them another $99 for a visit. They then wanted to charge me for writing my Rxs out for an entire year, not just 6 months. Had I allowed them to, The Eye Care Center (Dr's. Belinda Dobson & Sue Simpson) would have nickeled and dimed me for every tiny thing that I required. I've worn glasses and contacts my entire life, and have NEVER encountered the unprofessionalism and lack of tact shown to me at The Eye Care Center. A month later I received a call from Superior Vision, my insurance company, double checking on what was done at the visit, and why I had been charged so much. This place is so ridiculous, that even a twisted INSURANCE COMPANY is questioning their charges and practices. I switched to Eye Care Center after my other eye doctor changed their payment policies because of a strained relationship with my insurance company. I was able to fill out my new patient paperwork online that saved me time when I arrived for my appointment. The waiting room was spacious, so I didn't feel like a sardine with a bunch of other patients, and they even had coffee available. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and one of the best parts of my visit was the great new technology they are using. Instead of the annoying machine that puffs air in your eye, they used a small, portable machine that took my eye pressure without all the discomfort of the air puff machine. Dr. Dobson herself is personable and extremely knowledgeable. She educated me on better contact options and even discussed how we will monitor my eye health in the next few years. read more

The Tech Dee was funny, polite, and helpful even when I couldn't perform a task correctly. Ahah. Dr. Zike was thorough, informative, and super nice. Krysta (Sorry if I butchered that spelling!), who actually supervises the lens department (I think) stayed after hours, was AMAZING, answered all my questions and even when I offered to come back the following day so they could close - she refused and never once acted like it phased her. For my glasses pickup - she offered to rotate her lunch hour to accommodate my lunch hour! If I could give her 10 stars, I would. I loved Eye Care Center. I've been nervous about finding a new doctor since I moved to Bryan-College Station. Everyone was really nice and answered all of my questions (and I asked A LOT of questions because it's been a while since my last eye exam). I didn't have to wait very long in the waiting room before someone called me back. I liked that they explained everything they were doing and not only gave me all the options, but told me which specific ones they recommended for me. So that made me feel like they weren't just trying to get every cent out of me they could. I did have to go somewhere else to get my glasses because they didn't have my insurance, but I was very happy that they didn't make me feel bad about that and told me all the questions I should ask when I went to get my glasses. The place I got my glasses at told me that everything Dr. Simpson had recommended for me was exactly what she would have recommended as well. I also liked all of the online options. You can request your appointment time online and fill out all your paperwork online. I made my appointment online, but forgot to do the paperwork online, but like I said earlier, the lady at the front (I'm pretty sure her name was Amy) was really sweet and gave me my paperwork to fill out when I got there. Even though, I didn't do the paperwork online, I still didn't have to wait very long before they were calling me back. Finally, I'm not sure if they are still doing this deal, but when you go, check in on Facebook, and you get a free gift. Mine was a free glasses case, cleaning cloth, and spray. I'm not sure if the gifts change, but these are all things I'm able to use every day! I saw a sign that told about the gift in the examination room, so look there to see if they are still doing that deal when you go. In conclusion, I had a great experience with the all of the staff I came in contact with at Eye Care Center, and I will definitely be back! read more

I've been going to the Eye Center for two years and I love it! They are so nice, they take the time to offer and explain every procedure available and give me options. They let me know whether or not it's cheaper to use my insurance or their discounts. They give me honest recommendations but I still feel free to make my own choices. They have up to date equipment. Waited forever after signing in. Total time in office was an hour and a half. I asked for the basic eye exam and still paid more than my deductible (contact fitting?). Then ran my card for wrong amount. Called me back next day and I paid additional amount. Called to confirm where my contacts were, but they said they charged my card for the wrong amount. Explained I already paid it, then they told me I had to submit a credit card statement to prove it. Wth?? Finally, told me that they ordered the contacts, but still have not received anything. My 5 year old daughter needed her eyes checked. We called and got an appointment that same day. The staff was great! They explained things in a way she could understand and made her feel like it was sort of a game they were playing. It was nice to see that they cared how she felt instead of "do this, do that". My daughter is a rambler. She talks about anything and everything, and the staff listened to her and would converse back with her about whatever random thing she was saying. That made her happy and more comfortable, which in turn made the appointment go along smoothly! The staff explained everything to me, (in ways that someone who didn't work in that field for a living would understand). When Dr. Dobson finished the exam, she let my daughter help her put some of the equipment away (and I'm sure this equipment isn't cheap), but Dr. Dobson entertained her and was happy to do so. She too entertained my daughter's rambling, lol! I found the service to be excellent. My daughter is excited to go back next week to pick up her glasses! I am not one to normally write reviews as I am a pretty easy person to please but I did not have the best experience here and do not want others to experience the same. I found Eye Care Center online as I had just moved to College Station for school. I went to my appointment and felt a little confused not knowing all the ins and outs of going to the eye doctor since my mom usually set those appointments up for me and dealt with the insurance. The staff was pretty friendly except for the lady working at the desk who seemed annoyed that I had to call my mom and ask her some questions. Overall the appointment went well but I was very frustrated when they would not write a prescription for the brand of contacts (biofinity) that I had worn for over 5 years- they wrote me a prescription for contacts that I would have been forced to buy from them- they were biofinity but under a specific brand name that only they sold- and very overpriced at that. I asked for them to rewrite the prescription but Eye Care Center refused. Also they charged me a very high amount for the appointment- my mom even requested to talk to the lady working at the front because she could not understand why it was so expensive. I ended up going back to my hometown and seeing my old eye doctor again and getting the contacts I was use to wearing because that ended up being cheaper than buying the contacts from Eye Care Center. I am now currently looking for another eye doctor here in town but do not think I will go back to eye care center again. read more

I went in to buy a pair of glasses which I paid for in full up front. When the glasses came in I was informed that there was an additional $25 charge that I wasn't told about. I paid this and was on my way only to get an additional bill for another $29 for something else they forgot to tell me about. I will never go back to these scam artists. read more

They overcharged her for the appt. and kept her coming back for several followups. They did not want to write her a prescription for her contacts she has worn for years, but insisted she change. She tried what they gave her (the brand they sell) and ended up not being able to wear contacts for almost a year. They cut off oxygen to her eyes. They swelled up and were red. They tried to tell her she had an eye infection, but when she was able to get back to her regular doc he told her the real reason for the redness. I wanted to give honest feedback regarding my experience. l too am a medical professional, and my experience was nothing BUT professional. The clinic is clean and welcoming, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and Dr. Dobson is professional, well educated in up to date technology and research, and extremely kind. I was recent referred to Slade & Baker for Lasik. I was able to do all pre and post op care locally at clinic and only had to travel once to Houston for actual procedure. The reason I was referred to Houston is because of the quality of laser, surgeon and physician (which Dr Dobson is not willing to risk a poor outcome). I went into the business to get a copy of my rx so I could order contacts from 1800contacts.....I was told that my rx was only good for another month so I should get another exam. Well to make a long story short the contacts that I wore for 25 plus years were discontinued (the ones with handling tint) the colors ones were still available. She had me try another brand which I haven't liked but since I purchased them I've been using them. Well to my delight I saw that MY brand was being made again!! Well since she hasn't seen that brand in my eye she wouldn't approve an order from 1800contact!! Wtf if you looked at my chart I am sure it had the day of my exam that I was wearing the Freshlook brand!!!! We discussed how unhappy I was trying another brand. Guess they figured I was a liar. I purchased a set glasses (progressive with transitions) 4 mos. ago, i wasn't satisfied, when i tried them on the first time and was told i'd get used to them. I went back a couple of weeks later and was told that it could take up to a couple of mos. i've since put my $450 glasses in the drawer and have gone back to my old pair. Very frustrated, as it was obvious the lenses weren't aligned in the frames as they should or could have been. They were aware of the problem, but never suggested a solution except to get used to them! My family won't go back, ever!! read more
