You walk in and immediately know you are not in some polished Instagram cocktail lounge. It is loud, a little gritty, and full of people who are clearly there to have a good time and not pretend otherwise. The beer is cold, the Lone Star flows like Texas water, and the vibe is pure old school Austin. And yes, the legendary bathroom situation deserves its own paragraph. The men's room features a giant ice filled trough for a urinal, which feels like something out of a 1970s roadside saloon documentary. Somehow it is both ridiculous and perfectly on brand. It actually becomes a conversation starter because you walk out laughing and immediately tell your friends they have to see it and go pee. The crowd was friendly, the bartenders were quick with the beers, and nobody was taking themselves too seriously. I ended up staying longer than planned, drinking Lone Stars and talking to random people like we had known each other for years. If you want craft cocktails served with a rosemary sprig this is not your place. There was a small area where dancing could take place, but no one was dancing at the time. The staff including the general manager was super friendly. It felt like a wedding reception as you came into the club where you were greeted...very warm and welcoming. We had a drink and stayed a short while. The outdoor casual setting is relaxed and inviting - truly a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Parking is also very convenient, with spaces available both in front of the brewery and in the back. As an IPA fan, I really appreciate that they offer several IPA options, along with a variety of mixed drinks for anyone who wants something different. The food is also very good for a brewery--fresh, flavorful, and a step above typical bar fare. I had the large pretzel and Masala frito pie. That led to only one person having to go home and change before we went there. And they welcomed us all with open arms, even though I showed up with two extra people on my reservation. Leah was our server and she literally was the best part of our meal despite the food being top-notch. We ordered nearly everything on the menu. Devoured the tuna and salmon cones. Absolutely loved the spicy rigatoni. The burger, which I believe is the best burger in Austin, the chicken tenders, the wings. The desserts every single thing was impeccable. Since a lot of my friends were coming to the guest house for the first time with me after we were all done eating and stuffed to the T, I ordered the group 2 slices of their House bread and told everyone to just trust me. All the flavors blended and melded together quite nicely which was nice. They certainly do know how to make beer and it was nice to get a beer type that I don't get as often. To make matters worse, several of our food items were forgotten. Before closing, we were told that the staff had forgotten them and would not be fulfilling those orders. My soup was forgotten as well and was eventually handed to me in a tiny to-go cup with no utensils. Wine pours were being taken away while we were still finishing them, despite still having time before closing. At one point, we were being told to leave while we were already actively gathering our things and heading out. We completely understand that restaurants have strict closing times, and we were more than willing to respect that. What was disappointing was the level of annoyance, dismissiveness, and rudeness we experienced throughout the evening. We had been happy to return, especially after such a great experience the night before. We tipped well, had a substantial tab on Friday, and genuinely wanted to support the restaurant. Service started off well and our waitress was friendly, but as brunch went on we found ourselves having to flag her down multiple times for refills and assistance.
