One of a few locations in the Austin area, Pinballz on Research Boulevard is a fun date night or hang out spot focused on vintage and modern gaming accessible to all. When you walk in you're greeted by friendly workers who genuinely seem to care about the place and what they do. The arcade is clean and parking is pretty easy to find with a smallish lot out back. They do have signs warning about break ins but that's a bit of an Austin thing more than it is this location. We opted to buy the $50 amount for our play card as we wanted to have a lot of options and not feel hindered by constantly checking our balance. They offer different denominations to be put on the card but from our experience the $50 mark is a great place to start for 2 people. The amounts on cards are also transferable from location to location in case you wanted to go to any of their other spots. Last thing to note about the set up before getting into the action is that they do offer food and beverage up at the front and this particular location is BYOB but there are rules surrounding it so if you're looking to take advantage of that be aware of the policy. When you're ready to get into the action your options are pretty diverse. Upfront are some of the more modern arcade games like basketball hoops, Deal Or No Deal, etc; but the further back into the store you go it becomes a history trip. They have a number of retro, and we mean retro, games in the back. We're talking 70s and 80s games that we haven't seen since we were kids. Throw on top of that an extensive set of pinball machines, fighting classics, and shooters, and the whole arcade just has a set up you can get lost in for hours. Some games offer tickets, others not, so if you're looking to rack up tickets to take to the counter by the end of everything like we were then make sure to strategize. One thing we also really liked were the prices of the games. We spent probably about 1.5-2 hours there and that $50 goes a looooooong way, definitely worth the value. We were told the Lake Creek location also has laser tag and axe throwing to do but if you're looking for just a simple and fun arcade experience then this is the perfect spot for you! read more

Somehow Pinballz has flown under the radar this whole time I've been in Austin. But I've been missing out! Checked this place out recently and had SUCH a fun time. I like that there is a blend of older school arcade games, so many pinball machines, and some newer arcade classics. You will never run out of things to do and play! They also sell some food and beverages which is really nice, and have cup holders scattered across. Service was also really great, and they were cleaning chairs periodically throughout so it felt super clean. Will definitely be back! read more

What a way to throw it back and live in a sense of nostalgia from your childhood. I remember going to video arcade rooms and birthday parties as a kid yet it was so fun to see the adult version of this. Pinballz is still accessible to families, but it was fun to see their free beer and seltzers on Friday and Saturday at 8pm. There's two floors of pinball games, coin games, ticket games, and so much more. Just like any arcade you can win prizes with tickets so go and see what you can win. I ended up being there for a friends birthday party and we were told they had rented a private room on the second floor. They had pre-ordered food from Pinballz yet it seem to take a while for it to come out. By the time we were supposed to leave the event they barely brought out the second half of pizzas. read more

Celebrated my nephew's 3 year old birthday there and was pleasantly surprised at how many arcade games were available for him to play at his age. Lovely staff - clean - plenty of parking - rad tshirts. The play time was also longer than expected for the money. Have been twice. Will be back. Love all the vintage pinball machines in the back! Still love this place. Hadn't been in a while and decided to come to the OG location rather than the larger one up north. I definitely love it. It's a gorgeous day and the video games are gaming. I did notice a few games down but was told they have work orders in to have them repaired soon. So that's great that the staff have answers to give. I was here around mid day and it was very chill not packed or busy at all. Enough room to chill and vibe alone or hang with friends. The selection of games is still so amazing. This place definitely has something for everyone looking for classic games. One thing I noticed was the volume on many of the games were maxed out which caused some headache moments but I would just bounce to another space and boom better. Needed a mental break from the work and this placed was a great. I was able to get lost in the fun. I really used to love the arcade when I was a kid and don't play games often today. This was a good release. I love the hours are open late. I bet this place can be a zoo. I'll try what I anticipate to be slower nights to avoid kids, but I'm sure they go crazy with the volume of games. Also se that there's a party room, too, so I bet they get their fair share of kid parties on the weekends. Fun place for a date night, too, although I went alone. read more

My only complaint is that it could be cleaner. But honestly the only arcades without a layer grime haven't had their opening day yet. Nice set up and variety of games. Obviously pinball machines are aplenty, but there are other arcade classics like Pac-Man as well some newer games to enjoy. It's BYOB so I typically have a cider in hand while I play. It definitely hits the nostalgia buttons. I've been here w/ just one other person and in a group of 8, it's always been fun for everyone. There are so many opportunities to win tickets! Do a coin drop game and reel them in. The ticket prizes are pretty neat, I like getting a ton of candy or a bunch of other small items instead of going for a giant prize. Maybe next time. read more

Such a cool and fun spot to be a kid back way back when!! Let's not discuss age lol They have so many games to choose from that there's no way you can play all your faves in one visit. It is also BYOB which is a nice little convenient detail. You can also accumulate virtual tickets and then trade them in for a prize. Super fun spot with enough games to entertain even the most fickle gamer. Easy to spot but kind of a wonky parking lot to navigate, could use some love since there's some uneven bits to drive over. I love the selection of coin pusher games and the walls of pinball machines. There are so many classic movie and TV themed machines but I have had a couple games ruined by a ball getting caught, not super frequent but enough to make me nervous with some of the older machines. Its so easy to spend money here though so I'm glad there's only one machine to reload your card. I normally just do $20 or $30 and that'll last me at least a couple hours depending on game selections and luck. Haven't taken advantage of any of the bites, being from San Antonio whenever we make the hike to Austin we fuel up from more established foodie locations and Pinballz tends to be a place to burn time or even just wrap up our day trips. The staff is pretty friendly though and there's enough variety to find something new each visit. I recommend you load up your game card and do a couple laps around the space to see everything they have to offer, found some really fun machines when I was down to my last couple dollars on my first trip. read more

Kiko was super accommodating for a group of patients I brought here with spinal cord injuries! Many were in wheelchairs and needed accommodations and he helped us out a lot! The original Pinballz was very wheelchair friendly and I highly recommend it for a group setting! Ask for Kiko! read more

We've been here a few times and overall had positive experiences. The staff was kind and helpful, most of the games were in working order and the prices per game were very reasonable. I feel like $25 gets you much further here than at similar gaming places. Personally, I enjoy the vintage games, especially the pinball. Of note, the life sized Hungry, Hungry Hippos was a great family experience, nothing like going head to head while sitting on a giant hippo. The food is hit and miss in my opinion. The burgers are pretty solid and the sweet potato fries are excellent. The beer selection is also really good. On my most recent visit I had the margarita pizza which wasn't that great and took significantly longer to come out from the rest of our order, the rest of the family had finished dinner and we were still waiting for mine. I also thought the regular fries were soggy and limp. All that aside, we had a great time and will happily be back. read more

Neat place tucked away off the freeway frontage road. It shares the building with another venue, but the downstairs is dedicated to Pinballz. Interestingly it is BYOB, you just need to check-in at the front. The arcade isn't huge but it's also definitely not small. They specialize in pinball machines so the name is quite accurate (also I love their clever logo with the L's as flippers); I'd estimate about 2/3's of their square footage is dedicated to pinball machines of all different themes. I personally played all the Star Trek ones cuz I'm a Trekkie, haha. The staff members were quite helpful when my ball became lodged incorrectly and even gave me an extra play free of charge. All of the pinball machines run on tokens which are 33 cents a pop. Most required three tokens to play, but we found a few for 2 and a few for 4. They have a nook of older arcade games (think Galaga, Pac-Man, etc.), as well as some shooters, fighting games, and experience games like DDR. The rest are reward-based games that you can play to get prizes from the counter in the middle-- your typical fare: candies, little Knick-knacks, plushies, inflatables, and electronics. They've done away with physical tickets and have a card system instead. This is somewhat awkward because it results in two currencies simultaneously within one establishment. You cannot use tokens on prize machines and you cannot use the game card on pinball machines. This is probably the only reason I dropped my rating down to a 4 from a 5. A final note for collectors: the store actually allows you to BUY individual pinball machines, if you are so inclined. Very cool and keeps their offerings changing so it's not all the same each visit. read more

I showed up an hour after opening and they were still setting up - I was tripping over vacuum cords and listening to it whirr during my entire visit. The surly guy behind the counter, John, literally grunted at me when I greeted him and said, "What do you need?" The space feels sad and dank, like a roadside casino. I was out 30 minutes and $25 later and won't be returning. read more

Not sure why I've never left a review for Pinballz Arcade before but better late than never right.. Pinballz Arcade is so much fun for ADULTS & for kids! It's a cool spot to take your kids or just go w/ another adult to unwind & have some fun. Pinballz has old school games & newer games for everyone to enjoy..skew ball, basketball, driving games, pinballs of course, Tron, and for all my Walking Dead fans they now have a WD game & so many other games but you're just going to have to take your butt over to Pinballz Arcade to check them all out. Pinballz does sell food & drinks & when you 1st walk in you can order your food & also order your game card. A lot of the games do give out tickets & you can then turn the tickets in for a prize, which my kids love doing. Pinballz Arcade is a pretty cool hangout spot with lots of video games, flashing lights, variety of games and plenty, and I mean plenty, of arcade/pinball machines. They have a huge variety of games which I enjoy a lot! From multiplayer TMNT games, ticket games, sports, racing, test your luck, DDR, and all of the above! They have a cool touch pad card system for all your credits, some require tokens (like the good ol' days!) Some of my favorite games have been the basketball game (really easy to beat the high score), Down the Clown (get a partner to play this game with you), Mario Kart GP Racing (kind of expensive, but well executed), and the Claw Machine (shoutout to Matt3756 on YouTube for good claw machine skills)! read more

This arcade is just that, an old school arcade. It's no Dave and Busters or Main Event, but they are not arcades. The facade of this place in not noticeable but once you get inside, it is fun. There are more pinball machines than modern games. My son and I stuck to the modern games and we had fun. The machines actually dispense tickets, a total throwback. The ticket amounts were fair and the prizes were decent. We had a good time. My son ate a kids meal while there, chicken tenders and fries for $5, a very fair price.
