We've been to this place a few times before, which is why this experience was really disappointing. When we visited recently, we noticed roaches crawling around in the dining area while we were there. It immediately made us uncomfortable and definitely affected the whole experience. We almost left, but since we were already there and didn't want to go somewhere else, we decided to stay and give it a chance. Unfortunately, after seeing that, it was hard to enjoy the food and the overall experience just wasn't good. Another thing that stood out is how dark and dim the restaurant is inside. It makes it hard to see much around you, which honestly made us wonder about the cleanliness after what we saw. I grew up going to the Texican on Manchac and it was always a treat. It's nice having one a little closer to home. The location is nice and feels modern with a nice outdoor space. There's a little kids play area every can run around in. They do a great brunch on the weekends and the mimosas are cheap and good. We like meeting friends here on the weekends. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The food is consistently good. This is comfort food- just good Tex-mex you can count on. Great chips and salsa. The chips had a great texture, a little different than what you would expect. This is a large restaurant with lots of seating. I got the chile relleno stuffed with chicken and cheese, very good. The tortillas are homemade, but they are small. Service was good just like the food. Everyone in my party enjoy their dishes. Came in on Saturday for a family lunch, waited by the host stand for about 3-4 minute before my mom went off to find an employee to assist us with getting sat. Started with some chips and queso which we enjoyed, my mother noting who she enjoyed their chips. We ordered the sour cream enchiladas, chicken fajitas tacos, carne guisada plate, and pork chop and egg brunch plate. Overall, my carne guisada was okay, I've had more flavorful gravy in the past elsewhere and prefer Mexican rice with just more robust flavors, where it was all just pretty flat. My brother seemed to enjoy his enchilada and my mother spoke highly about her pork chop. I'd likely want to try other places before coming back however our server, (believe her name started with a V) was wonderful. read more

This honestly hurts me so much. I've been eating at Texican for years. My favorite location was the one on South Lamar (it's long gone now) and second is the original Manchaca location. Sadly, over the last year the Kyle location has just gone downhill. I've gotten sick the last two times I've gone. I'm such a diehard I went back after being sick the first time. Their meat is just so salty and greasy now and often tastes like it's just sitting. The food is almost always cold when I do a pickup order. The last time I ate in the restaurant the waitress completely forgot about us and it wasn't busy. The margaritas never taste like they have tequila in them. It's just been a lot of factors adding up over time and it just feels like they've stopped trying. I hope things get better so I can go back, but for now, I'm on a Texican break. read more

Texican's tortilla sizes for their fajita tacos are now the size of street tacos. Two of these for $10.00....ridiculous, and they don't include salsa unless it's a meal so I had to pay almost $3 for a small salsa that is supposed to be 1/2 a pint. COME HERE INSTEAD OF CHUYS. Being from out of state, we made the mistake of trying Chuy's as our first "Tex-Mex" experience. Boy oh boy did we wish we had found Texican Cafe sooner! When we first walked in we were surprised to see how big this place was! Plenty of seats and they were mostly full which is always a good thing to see. We were seated promptly and our server was quick to bring out the most delicious homemade chips we've ever had. They were airy, crispy, salty, and most importantly WARM. We got queso with the chips and man oh man I could bathe in that stuff it was so so good. Moving onto our entrees (steak fajitas, fajita burrito) these were the BEST and I'm saying the BEST steak fajitas and steak fajita burritos we'd ever had. The steak was so tender and soft while still being cooked so perfectly! The vegetables tasted so fresh and the tortillas *muah* chefs kiss. This is the place to go for some REALLY good Tex-mex. Great selection, cute place, polite and friendly staff As I understand it, the general rule is that if you're in Texas you MUST visit a TexMex spot - we were visiting friends this weekend and this is where she suggested we go. We were NOT disappointed. Their chips and salsa are SO good. The chips are light and crispy with just the right amount of salt - SO good. We got queso, too, Damn that was good enough to eat with a spoon! I couldn't decide what I wanted, so I ordered a combination plate - corn taco, tamale, and enchilada. Each of the items was delicious (even the tamale, and I don't like tamales everywhere I go). I didn't pay a bit of attention to what the others got, but they were all pleased with their dishes. Alright, so let's talk about it. El paso themed, which means; stacked enchiladas and a mystery red sauce they use on some entries. We didn't try any, but planning on coming back, so will update when I do try. Super dim lighting, which was only a concern when taking photos, other than that. Super chill vibe where I can invision myself sitting and enjoying good conversation. The enchiladas were "eh" good, but Verde sauce was a little too tangy for my taste, plus the enchiladas could have been rolled a little tight. The taco salad was amazing. Normally, I'm not going to go with a salad but surprised to find out just how light and filling it was. Good job. The shell it comes on need is hands down amazing. Make a puffy taco using that taco salad shell, and you got a winner right there. A lot of reviews mentioned this being more of a margarita bar, and while I will KINDA agree with it. Their drink selection is worth coming back and trying the flavors. Rumor has it they offer 2$ mimosas on Sunday. See you on Sunday. Busy lunch crowd. Crazy how much Kyle has grown. Nice location with plenty of parking. It was a little loud, but not outrageous. They seem a little short staffed (who isn't these days). Several lunch specials. Went with the enchiladas verde. Standard fare on par with their other locations. Always like the West Texas spin that relies heavily on layers of chilies for flavor. I had high hopes for a great, quick Mexican place right near home, but I think this may be more of a Happy Hour/Margarita place for us instead! I did enjoy the queso with fajita vegetables, and it is definitely a 4 person appetizer. Very rich and made to be eaten fast with tortillas, but I could eat that all day! Heavier than a standard queso, but still good and I enjoyed the veggies. I got chicken enchiladas, and while I loved the big chunks of chicken in it, their enchilada sauce left me wanting something with more spices, richer. Their rice was fine, and their black beans were OK too, but we've had better since coming here. Son got the ground beef quesadilla, and it had an interesting aftertaste. Kinda like a soapy taste, just off putting. He wasn't a fan, but he ate those French Fries without hesitation! Hubby got a platter and again, everything was OK, just not GOOD. He had a crunchy taco, tamale and the El Paso enchilada, and again, it was fine, but it wasn't GOOD. I think we were looking for food that maybe tasted like home. It felt standard, and that's OK, just not what we were hoping for! The service was lovely though! Everyone we spoke to was wonderful and our server did a great job! Been a fan since the original Texican on Manchaca opened up. SO long ago in fact they opened without a full liquor license and served margaritas made with wine. What's funny is the new Kyle location is EXACTLY the same distance from the ranch to the original location. It's cool that they opened in Hays County. Took mom for her birthday lunch. Cool and trendy interior compared to the original that is a bit dated these days. Fave appetizer has always been the stuffed jalapenos nestled atop tangy and sweet red jalapeno jelly. Best in Texas folks. Another recent happy hour fave is the botana platter. Four of the above mentioned peppers, 4 chicken taquitos, with guacamole, queso, sour cream, and pico de gallo. For $12.99, it feeds 2 and you still have extras to take home. Pair that with Texican's Morada margaritas! The Cozumel prepared fish dish is my all time favorite. Flaky white fish nestled in serrano peppers, onions, and grilled tomatoes. If that's not enough of a platter it also comes with a shrimp enchilada, guac, pico, rice, and your choice of beans. After I shot my first eagle on Kissing Tree Golf Course's par-4 18th hole, I was excited to share the news with my wife when I got back home. She suggested we celebrate by eating out. At first I was hesitant...it's not like I shot a hole-in-one or anything. She finally convinced me we should go ahead and celebrate. As is our practice to avoid going around in circles deciding where to eat, I gave her 3 options to choose from: Raising Cane's, Chuy's or this new restaurant, Texican, our neighbors were raving about. She immediately chose Texican, so off to Kyle we went. It was just before 6:00 PM on a Saturday when we went and the parking lot was almost full. Upon walking in, we were surprised at how spacious this place was. We were seated, drink orders taken and we also went ahead and ordered our meals. I ordered their Plato de Burrito and my wife opted for the Chimichanga plate. A couple of minutes later, our server dropped off the warm tortilla chips and salsa then asked us for our orders once again as he apparently misplaced our original order. No biggie. Service was pretty quick. The warm chips and salsa with a bit of kick were both good. The Plato de Burrito and the Chimichanga plate were just OK...nothing that wowed us. The beef burritos were actually more like enchiladas with red sauce drenching it. I would've preferred steak instead of just ground beef. My wife's chimichanga didn't appear to be deep fried and, like me, she didn't think the ground beef was well seasoned either. Their refried beans were good but the Spanish rice was just OK. All in all, a somewhat disappointing dining experience that wasn't worth the drive from San Marcos. After trying this place, my wife and I both agreed that we prefer Chuy's over Texican. Dinner for 2 came out to less than $25. read more

Wow, years ago I used to love this place. The service has gone down hill and hard. Our family often gets dinner to go on Saturdays because it's our "game night" where we play games together. This is the FOURTH time we have ordered take out and they have blown the meal. I mean not in a small way either. This last time how can they serve two orders of fajitas without tortillas? How can they miss that!? Or the large queso and no chips? It is so bad and so consistent that it can not be a simple mistake. This is intentional or just crazy bad. In fact, next time (if there IS a next time), I'm going to make sure not to do the automatic tip until I get there and check all the meals before leaving. Boy that's going to be a train wreck for them if everyone has to unpack their take out because they have such terrible quality controls or sub-par care. read more

Very nice decor. Excellent service in a pretty new building. I had a combination plate with an enchilada, beef taco, tamale, queso, guacamole, rice and beans. The food was good especially the tamale, however everything on my plate had so much cheese on top that it was overpowering the flavors of the individual items. I like cheese but if I could make a suggestion it would to be to put less cheese over the food when it is plated. Otherwise I would rate 5 stars. read more
