First of all I love the food at Texican! Sometimes I need a good Texican fix, but I am disappointed with to-go orders. For about 3 times in a row my order is put together haphazardly. The presentation should be just as good as eating in the restaurant. An example is an order of queso. Sometimes I get an expected large size bag of chips with a large queso but this is inconsistent. This time I got about 10 chips in the bag! Same as a few time before. And the order of stuffed avocado was to be half chicken and beef - but just as last time, both were beef! and I ask for extra green chili sauce since to-go serving is about a table spoon--- but they fail to add it I am only asking for consistency and the same care as ordering in the restaurant. For now, I will no longer order to take home as it is poor. read more

Just stopped in for a couple drinks and dinner with my fiancé. The lobby was empty. We weren't greeted by the hostess standing right up front. The bar tables were empty except for two, so we sat ourselves. As soon as we did the "hostess" walked up and asked if we sat ourselves. When we said yes, she informed us we could not seat ourselves and that the wait was 30-35 minutes. I asked her how the wait could be that long with an empty lobby and 7+ open bar tables. Her response was "because of their server." She should have greeted us firstly, and secondly she should have informed us of the wait time and offered us a table so we could at least get a drink while waiting for the server. Terrible service from the unfriendly hostess, who just gave us attitude instead of being accommodating. read more

This Texican café has only been open for a couple of months. It was on the way home from the airport, so we gave it a try. It was surprisingly crowded at 2 pm on Friday. Service was prompt, and our dishes were quite tasty. We tried a "Mexican Dinner" (a sampler) and the sour cream enchiladas - both delicious! Clearly the place is run by an experienced restaurateur- so we were not surprised to learn that there are three other locations, In any case, We plan to return here with other family members. read more

Let me start by saying that the place was not busy, more than half of the tables were empty, yet, the server took a very long time to take & bring our drink order. The food is typical, mediocre Tex-Mex, nothing especial. Their frozen ritas are very good, which is the reason my husband insist continuing to go to this place. It is usually very dark and has very loud music. We had dinner & had a to-go order. We were charged $21 for 4 flautas to-go ($5.25 each flauta). Our dinner consisted of 2 botana platers, which include 3 flautas for $14.99 each, so the $21 for 4 flautas didn't make sense. I asked our server to remove the flautas, since I was not given (nor did I see) the price ahead of time. She guilt tripped me by saying "well, they are packed up & ready to go." I told her I did not expect them to be so expensive and that I did not want them. Our server complained that she would have to find the manager, who would not be happy to be interrupted in what she was doing. The manager came by, she told me "next time, before you order, look at the price" at the same time that she shoved & shook the receipt (for the to-go order) to my face. I had to move my face back & push her arm away from me. I feel for my husband (since he really likes their ritas), but I am not inclined to return to a place where I was aggravated by the manager. read more

We accidentally went here during their peak hours of operation one evening, but even so, I have to say, they did really well! We were only kept waiting perhaps twenty minutes or so before we were seated. The hostess and waiter were both very friendly. As is currently typical (post-COVID), you'll use your phone to scan the QR code to bring up the menu. I went for the sour cream enchiladas, which were quite tasty; I appreciated that I was asked what kinds of beans I would prefer with my meal. There were also a lot of great gluten-free options for my dad, who has Celiac's. My partner couldn't get enough of the salsa and the waiter had to bring out more for us, lol. Tasty warm chips. On our way out, our waiter even offered to get us another round of beverages to-go! I couldn't resist taking a Dr. Pepper for the ride home. It's awesome when waiters offer that! Also, I really liked the decor on the inside, like colorful painted walls, interesting lighting, and even a fountain in the lobby. Made it more unique. =) The bathrooms were clean and stocked. Decent price point too- it's not cheap Mexican food but it certainly isn't overpriced either. read more

This has to be the best Texican location! I have been three times now and every time, Texican comes through with the best service, food, and drinks. The owner is always so thankful for my visit and it seems sincere. I highly recommend the fajitas, the migas, and the martinis. This is a wonderful place to celebrate an event and for work lunches. I brought a group of 11 people. The food was delicious but the front desk person Dylan was extremely rude. when I first arrived and told him that I had 11 people in my party he laughed and said ummm huh ok. Extremely condescending. After we ate our delicious meal, we decided to give up our very large table and move to the bar as just a few of us wanted to stay behind and have a few more drinks. I went up to the front and again encountered Dylan. I told him we had given up our large table, wanted a small table in the bar. I was trying to get a headcount from my 11 people to see how large of a table we needed. Three of us decided to stay behind and when I turned around to let him know how many we had staying, he abruptly snapped at me and said HOW MANY IN YOUR PARTY! that is not a way to speak to a customer and other people in my party heard him talk to me that way as well. He needs to remember where his paycheck comes from. My group spent an exorbitant amount of money between food and drinks that evening. I really hope the manager sees this and hope that he has a training session with Dylan. I love the food here, but I don't know if I'll be back if the service doesn't improve. read more

I used to go to the Lakeline location when I lived up north & enjoyed it. Sadly, I cannot say the same for this location. My husband & I decided to try this location for the first time tonight. The staff & our waitress were friendly. The chips & salsa was good. My husband ordered a margarita on the rocks, which tasted like watery lime juice. Yes, it's on the rocks but was there really any tequila in it? That's how watered down it was. We ended up sending the margarita back for a beer. I had a Mexican Martini which was just ok. As for food, my husband got the taco salad which he said was ok. I got the shrimp enchiladas, pic attached. This was after one bite. One of the enchiladas wasn't even whole. Needless to say, we were disappointed. I realize it is a Saturday night & our first time there, but it just wasn't good. We were going to speak with the manager to have the enchiladas removed from the bill, but he was very busy & we didn't want to discuss our experience in front of other patrons. Been several times and the food is always great. Their Chile con Queso is not too spicy, so even my kid loves it. The Chicken Fajita Chimichanga is my favorite and has never disappointed. Chicken is always seasoned well and tender. I will say they are usually short staffed and very busy. So please be patient with the staff. They are trying their best. read more

This place must have changed owners. My mom loves the enchiladas and I love the chips. I was treated nicely and the food was warm and on time. I arrived early so I sat outside and I kept noticing a pattern with the hosts, they open the door for and made sure all white people exiting were cared for. I was shocked but not shocked. Great place to take the family for a night out. It's been in business for decades. And we've been going there since the 1990s.

Let me start off by saying, I've been dining at the original Texican Cafe on south Manchaca Rd for ~20 years. That location never fails to disappoint and I've always had a positive experience there. When the Texican in Kyle opened up, I figured it would be a good alternative that is about half-way for us. Overall in the past, the Kyle location has been just fine, though for some reason the food still tastes better (in my opinion) at the original Manchaca Rd location. During the lockdown of 2020, we ordered takeout and curbside pretty much weekly from here, and the Kyle location was always quick to serve and on point, considering the situation at hand. On this last time that we went to the Kyle location, we had a less than favorable experience, thus the reason for this review. We arrived mid-afternoon during a non-busy time. My migas plate tasted great, but the issue was with my wife's plate. She ordered a cheese quesadilla. For $13.99 she thought this would be a rather large quesadilla with some awesome sides or something. My migas plate had way more food and contents for a lower price. What arrived was what is pictured here. This looks like it should be on the kid's menu. My wife asked the waitress (who was very nice) if this was the correct order, which she then confirmed that it was. We commented that this does not seem to be the $13.99 plate, and then she stated that she would get the manager for us, which we were fine with. When the manager came (unsure if he was THE manager or a duty manager), he stated that this is what is on the menu, and proceeded to state that this is what the owner chose and wanted for this plate/price. He seemingly pushed the issue off as the owner's problem, and didn't seem sincere or to really care about the issue as we see it. He did then offer to take it off and take the plate back, which we entertained and agreed. He proceeded to tell us that he "tells his customers to order this à la carte" instead of what we ordered. How are we supposed to know this if no one tells or explains that to us? Overall, the interaction that we had was very bizarre and really weird. We left with a less than satisfied feeling and one of us still hungry. read more

I ate here with a friend and her small children on Labor Day and had a wonderful experience! I think they were a little busy in the back because our server couldn't greet us right away but no worries. The blonde short-hair manager took great care of us and brought out salsa/drinks while Nataly was busy helping other guests. I never got the managers name but she was busting her ass to help out wherever she could, so huge props to her! Nataly was great as well, very on top of refills/making sure we're ok. The chili con queso was a little plain but sooo good. I had the lunch Mexican dinner plate and was very satisfied. Overall a good lunch and I love seeing managers help their staff out. read more

I got the Cabrito Plate and I would say this plate was very bland no flavor in the meat, and it wasn't seasoned it tasted like. The service was ok at the time of our visit the soda machine wasn't working but they made due with providing other options. The area of where we sat was nice and clean and the appearance of the restaurant was clean and organized. read more

I'm a fan of the Manchaca location for the best food of all the locations, but the Brodie Oaks spot is OK. My family was happy to see a Hays County location open up. The drinks were on point and the new interior is gorgeous. Love the giant Moravian star light fixtures. The patio area is very nice but may not lend itself to cold weather heaters as well as Manshack, but we'll see next winter. They seemed understaffed tonight and we expected start up problems like any new place. Seemed like getting tables turned over quickly after diners left was a problem. The chips and salsa were fine, didn't seem much different than the other locations. The big catastrophe for the evening was a dead tortilla machine. I felt bad for them (and us). No flour tortillas but there were corn ones. The queso parilla was good. Could have used a little more time to get some crisp on the bottom of the cast iron pan. That crispy bit is the best part of the queso. Seems like maybe there's new things on this menu, such as a variety of migas available at dinner. The service was pretty good, considering. Our young lady did a good job. The tortilla soup was solid. Good broth, rich flavor, lots of cheese and chicken. The chile colorado on the migas was excellent. The grande quesodilla with fajita meat was quite good, too. Overall, I think they are on track to get the new location up to par very quickly. I will update next time. read more

My family LOVES this place! The El Paso enchiladas, El Diablo enchiladas, fajitas and quesadillas are all mouth watering delish! The salsa is always fresh (sometimes spicier than other times, but we don't mind at all.). The queso is not to be missed - get some tortillas, roll 'em up, and dip away! The value has diminished and it's clear they're trying to get the customers to compensate for the costs by sacrificing service and value. Won't be back, been there over 20 times now. The food is good and I love the ranchero beans when they actually serve beans in it and not just the soup. The tortillas are yummy and so are there drinks. So far we have not had an issue other then there main lounging area to eat is a little too dark. Maybe a little bit more lighting or light bulbs that can give off a little more light then the ones they currently have. read more

Really disappointed with this Last trip of mine to the Texican Cafe. You used to serve goat award winning, you had a red chili pork dish. Chili Colorado. Your sauces were more on the El Paso flavor. What happened, the beans are watered down, food is bland and isn't this a Mexican Restaurant? I spent over 90$ here today for lunch and I will never be back. It's sad that your establishment has ran away from the qualities thad made the Original Texican great. We don't have quality northern Mexican food here in Austin, you were a good substitute. Pretty obvious what it seems they thought "Hey, it's a pick up order- they won't even see until they get it home, so who cares if we do it crappy." SO glad to be moving AWAY from stuck-up, unaccountable Austin area businesses. The Domino's in Buda which we recently also had a terrible experience with never even bothered to respond OR have anyone call me like they said they would after sending my review through their corporate site. Consider the source- then you'll know why. Good riddance. NOTE- even if this item doesn't come pre-cut like I thought, it doesn't matter because the tortilla still looked old and cracked and shouldn't have been crammed into a box it didn't fit in. One of a few restaurants in the area that is able to maintain employees. I get so tired of signs on every door that read "closed, due to low staffing..." we get it already, no one wants to work. Spoiled. Getting more money collecting unemployment or what? Gas prices too high or what! Don't get me started on politics.
