    HUGE sashimi.
    Scott G.

I got the $25 sashimi. On the upside, it was a good value. On the downside, the fish was cut too thick and big. Pretty much impossible to eat in one bite. The hamachi was still partially frozen. I will return and try their nigiri. Service was OK.

Things to order: Agadashi tofu: Flavor was on point and what I expected. It would be even better if the cuts of tofu were larger. Miso soup: A good way to start the meal. This tasted like your typical miso soup with some seaweed and a few small pieces of tofu. Johnny Luv: baked sushi with crab inside and a scallop on top. This was my favorite!

Came here for a returned visit for dinner. The sushi is prepared fresh and tastes like good cuts of fish. The service is friendly. The owner who is the sushi chef takes care of his rolls. The ambiance is casual, a bit tight on the inside with pleasant music and tv in the background. Will return to try more sushi rolls.

This is a local authentic sushi place. Chef is friendly and good listener if you have special inquiries. Sushi are freshly made to order with generous portions. Good varieties of sushi, nigiri and sashimi plus non-sushi items. Ask staff for veggie options but some are clear through menu. Place is clean and organized with responsive waiter. Atmosphere is good for groups, meetup, seniors (flat floor) and small parties. Will return for orange spicy salmon (Netscreen) roll.

We try and make it here for lunch regularly since there is always capacity. This last time we got the Tempera and Beef Udon and shared it. The tempera was good but needed a touch of salt. The Udon was fantastic and the portion was large enough to take some home to enjoy later. We also ordered the Jacksons Roll because it would be crime not to order sushi too. All of the fish is fresh and delish. The servers are very welcoming and accommodating. I feel like this is my lunch secret spot.

Came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. Got seated right away in this smaller sized restaurant. Was hungry and excited for Bento boxes! But unfortunately, these bento boxes didn't work out for my husband and I. Two item bento box : overcooked beef steak slathered in thick teriyaki sauce and a nice tasty fresh California Roll. My husband also got a three item bento box : overcooked beef steak slathered in thick teriyaki sauce; over fried pork tonatsu with a side of thick sauce that wasn't tasty with delicious sashimi. Mussel appetizer was okay. I think that the fish and sushi items were good, but the kitchen items were pretty poor, poor enough to drag down my review down to 2 stars.

first time here! very clean and quiet when we were there, the service was very nice and the waiters were respectful and polite :) in my opinion the sushi seemed pretty big and had me full after a couple pieces so be cautious when ordering multiple rolls unless u have a big appetite! overall its a pretty spot with nice ambiance and calm vibes, try it!

Unfortunately the bento boxes no longer have toro sashimi... too good to be true while it lasted. The beef teriyaki can be overcooked but the chicken teriyaki is tender and delicious. Still a decent spot when craving japanese

Sushi. I don't think it was worth the buck.. seemed like it had been frozen, stored and reused a few times. I DID NOT EAT IT

This restaurant is such a gem in Montclair, Oakland Hills area. It doesn't look like much from the outside. I have passed by it numerous time but never thought to try it. Finally give this restaurant a try and I regret that I didn't try it sooner. Super friendly staff, we wear seated at the bar and our chef was wonderful and very knowledgeable of their selection and where the food come from. Sounds like they are allergies friendly too, just let them know. We had a few nigiri and the quality was very solid. The cut is nice and thick. Well balance of fish and rice. I can be full from just 3 orders of nigiri ( 2 per order so 6 total) I'm not a big fan of rolls but the rolls here are very good. My favorite is the lion king roll, nice and smokey cheese sauce. Parking in the area can be tricky during rush lunch and dinner hour, mostly street parking only. There is a parking lot down a block too. Overall great restaurant!

Sushi and Sashimi - $35. Huge chunks of fish. Each slice of sashimi is closer to 3-4 slices at other restaurants

5/5 For Sushi, Nigiri or Sashimi - Brick sized sashimi cuts. Great deal and good tasting fresh fish. 2/5 for all other items including Bento. This is a Sushi (raw fish) joint. If you're looking for something other than raw fish I'd suggest going to Kotobuki or another joint. Come here for the raw stuff

After a 5.1 mile hike, I decided to eat sushi for lunch and choose this place. Great service, great ambience and awesome food. Besides sushi for hot sake too as it was a bit chilly around the hill. Parking is on the street and you should pay as it's not free on weekends like many other places. A cute little town with many beautiful stores around. I definitely recommend this place, it's a small restaurant but worth visiting.

Inside is definitely cozy and you'll be sitting fairly close to the tables next to you. Service was really fast and easy - no complaints at all! The food was all great. Standouts were garlic edamame, 6pc omakase, beef tongue, pork belly, negitoro maki, corn tempura, & sweet potato creme brulee. Edamame was lightly charred and salted well, with generous amount of garlic flavor. Omakase was fresh and tasty, although a tiny bit small so definitely perhaps get your own instead of sharing one order between two. Beef tongue was hands down the best thing. I thought it was a boneless short rib with how tender it was (can break apart with chopsticks). The pork belly was also soft and went well with the spicy miso. Negitoro was fresh and the wasabi was grated very well. Corn tempura was perfectly fried and very crispy while still being soft inside. Lastly, the creme brulee was a great dessert. You do get a hint of the sweet potato. Would love to return to try other dishes!

A simple menu allows the customers to order quickly and for the restaurant to crank out the items for fast turnover. As others have mentioned, it's less of an Omakase and more of a sushi or sashimi set. Mujiri definitely have their business model set up well in practice. The thing that has always been lacking has been the service. Through my three times here, dine in and take out guests are always waiting until they get some attention from whichever staff gets flagged down while they're in the middle of something else. During my most recent visit, the order predicted an online pick up of 40-50 minutes. I ended up taking my time leaving the gym and arrived at the 40 minute mark. Waited around and noticed my delivery ETA shifted for another 10 minutes. Once the 10 minutes were up I tried to flag a staff, and they told me it would be another 15 minutes. Through watching the orders, they had obviously not even started on my order yet. It was literally 30 minutes before closing when I got my order. It also didn't make sense as there wasn't much turnover for the dine in customers. They definitely need a better system as it was apparent that me and five other parties easily waited an additional 30 minutes each with no real explanation. It's unacceptable for a restaurant to neglect customers or giving timely updates and expect a disingenuous apology would make up for it. I admit that I like that offerings, but for the actual quantity and poor service, this place is severely overrated.
