    Bento Box (2 Items)

Judoku is a local, sushi spot located on the corner of Piedmont. When you walk in, you are greeted by lucky cat statues and various art pieces adorning the walls. The lighting is dim, providing a more elevated atmosphere. We came during lunch and surprising there was only 1 other guest there at the time. The staff seated us right away and we were able to order within a few minutes. The menu has a great assortment of sushi, bento boxes and more so if you're in a larger group, there is something for everyone. As a group of 3, my friends and I decided to split the meal family style and ordered bento boxes and a few rolls. The food came out within just a few minutes. The rolls are visually appealing and very appetizing. They held together nicely, although the spicy scallop roll was falling apart - however I do think scallop is trickier to work with so I didn't mind it. The bento boxes offered a great quantity of food for the price, so it was worth it! What stood out to me was the crisp texture of the tempura and katsu - only callout here is that the katsu was cut into thinner slices which you might not prefer if you like thicker slices. Overall, I'm glad I found this gem and I'm looking forward to a future visit!

Good, decent meal but nothing wowed me. Funny enough the miso soup was really good and it was very kind of them to give it to us for free. The service was also good overall.

Sushi was really good. Short ribs were really good. We ordered take out aka door dash. The only complaint was that you really need to be sure to read all the descriptions of the ingredients. My son is deathly allergic to nuts and why I don't know would nuts be on sushi ( crazy right). Anyways really read food descriptions. Other than that sushi was great. I don't want to take a chance to go back just because of the nut allergy. Scary..

    Nigiri Combo #1 (8 Pieces)

This time this one is for the service! I made a mistake with my waitress. I told her I wanted the sushi combo #1 When in fact, I wanted the nigiri combo #1 She even double checked with me. Ugh. She brought over my order I asked her if this was correct? She cleared everything up with me and I told her that it was fine. I would be happy to take what she brought me since it was my mistake. She insisted that she had it corrected. I do not like wasting food, so I'm hoping that one of the staff members got to enjoy it. Really was surprised and delighted that they went out of their way to make my mistake, right. AND THEN!..... they gave me an extra piece of nigiri on the house. Like. WTF. Thank You guys and ladies so much!!

The late night ambiance, and the ramen, was fantastic and they serve later on weekends. Sedate and quiet atmosphere but can get full on the back patio. The sushi got full approval from my especially picky partner as well. Their Sake collection is top tier, go here if you like sake.

Tasty roll easy pick up. Little on the high side but average for the area. Waitress was nice. Typical decor for Japanese spot. Solid spot when you're craving Japanese

My new boyfriend brought me here for Valentine's Day dinner shortly after we became official. We had such a wonderful dinner, and enjoyed delicious udon! When we came in on Thursday evening after work, we were pleased that we had the restaurant to ourselves for a bit. By the time we left, the restaurant was full. The customer service was very kind and welcoming. They were chill with the giant bouquet of roses and gifts that my boyfriend and I exchanged, and even helped us take photos together. Thanks Judoku Sushi for our first Valentine's Day dinner!

    O Toro
    Carl M.

Ordered sushi for dinner and lunch the next day. Let's get into it. Ordered: O Toro - REALLY fresh and worth the price if you like raw sushi. This is probably the best O Toro I've had in the baby's far from the Resteraunts I've been to. Bluefin Lovers - This was AMAZING. Also very fresh. Not too much sauce that it overwhelmed. Good serving of bluefin. Did not skimp out. Spider - I'm not a fan of anything cooked but I decided to try this. It was okay. I just wanted to see how it tastes. Crab is good, but because it's crunchy the sushi falls apart. Very dry too. Ironically after I was saying too much sauce is a bad thing. You can skip this one. Judoku - I would give this one a 7/10. Ordered it because it's one of the most ordered rolls. I'm more of a nigiri person but wanted to see what everybody was raving about. It was just okay. If you want a roll, get the bluefin roll. The o toro is great. I will try their nigiri rolls next time!

    Kakiage Tempura

Hands down one of my favorite spots in Oakland, this sushi restaurant (and more) is such a vibe! Very close to Piedmont Ave. and Kaiser Oakland, Judoku is the perfect spot to dine outdoors with friends, a date, or just playing catch-up with a girlfriend. The staff is so accommodating and friendly, the interior inviting, but the outdoor area..unlike any other sushi spot in the East Bay with fun art, instagrammable backdrops, and just a cool essence. Well done! The menu is massive ~ we ordered the Kakiage Tempura and Bento Boxes for an afternoon lunch and omg what a deal! You can choose 2 or 3 items, so naturally we chose 3 ~ the avocado roll, teriyaki chicken, and pork gyoza accompanied by miso soup, edamame, and rice. Add a salad for a couple bucks if you're dining in! The Kakiage Tempura is so unique, crispy, and one of the most delicious appetizers in the East Bay..I said it! Delicate fried squares of shrimp, sweet potato, yellow onion, shitake and other root veggies combined into one bite. Glorious! And the value of what you can get in the bento box has me coming back for more. I only did the avocado roll this time, but can't wait to try more of their specialty rolls soon. Delicious and clean pieces of teriyaki meat, and super yummy gyoza, not too greasy at all. If you're in the area, coming from an appointment, or looking for a unique yet vibrant change to your typical sushi experience, Judoku hits the mark every time.

The place is a little tucked away spot, the ambiance is very dim, great spot for a date night. I got the kamikaze sushi roll, it was okay. A bit too sweet for my liking and there was nothing really memorable about it. I only tried one roll so I'm not sure how the rest are but my friend really liked hers. The star of the show for me was the Kakiage tempura. It was really delicious, great portion, and just fun to look at and eat. It was crispy and you could taste all the little veggies in there. I'll definitely come back just to get that. I also tried the tempura which was really crispy as well.

Judoku Sushi was excellent. We ordered eight rolls and spent around $170, and everything was genuinely delicious. The quality and flavor were consistent across every roll, and I would definitely come back. I just wish we had been able to sit outside, but it was very cold that evening

This is my first time to have sushi here. I'm really impressed! It's very delicious and the fish is super fresh. Their outdoor setting is very beautiful. The waiter was very friendly. The atmosphere here is so great for having a meal. I'll be back!

We got DoorDash for sushi tonight so I can't really comment on the restaurant itself, but wow! Can we talk about fresh! The rolls do not fall apart because they are made to order and the fish is super tender and fresh. This place deserves lots of love!

Ask the Community - Judoku Sushi

    Do they take reservations?

Do you serve gluten free soy sauce?

Yes, I have asked and received gluten free soy sauce for both in-restaurant and take-out.

If I order a ramen for take out will they seperate the broth and noodles, so the noodles doesnt get soggy or are they together in the container? Can I ask if seperating them is allowed?

Yes! Their ramen container has an insert that keeps the noodles, meat, and egg, away from the broth until you're ready to eat.

Need input: What's your favorite roll here?

I really like the dragon roll! (I know boring, but it's one of my favorite dragon rolls!)

Is this place dog friendly? I see a dog on the patio in the photos.

Yes they have a really nice patio in the back and ive seen dogs there plenty of times

Staff/Vibe- very friendly and throughout the service so many stopped by to check-in. Waters were constantly topped off and food was delivered very promptly. The restaurant itself is very intimate and tabletop dividers are largely used to shared tables. It was a really nice approach. I wasn't a major fan of the chairs for the tall tables. I was hoping for some more ergonomically friendly. Food- SIGNATURE RAMEN- 5/5. So good. The broth was so good I think I drank it all before eating any ramen and toppings. It was a wonderfully hearty ramen with a balance of fresh and simple ingredients. This was perfect and allowed the delicious broth to really be the star. LAMB RAMEN. 5/5. If you like south indian curries then this is a must. The dense cumin taste, fresh onions and lamb made this ramen feel very familiar. The flavours were so wonderfully constructed on this. VEGAN KAARAGE MUSHROOM. Made to be reminiscent of fried chicken, these were very pleasant and paired with our broth. I would order this again. I am interested in knowing the preparation method for this as the inside was piping hot while the outside was just warm- almost like it was reheated. I would like these to be crispier with a bit more light seasoning. Overall looking forward to the next visit!

The quality of the fish was excellent, everything tasted fresh, and you could really appreciate the simplicity of each hand roll. The rice was well-seasoned, and every bite highlighted the freshness of the ingredients. The premium hand rolls were definitely the stars, fatty, flavorful, if you're a fan of uni and wagyu you have to try it. The Maguro Ponzu and Tuna Tartare was refreshing and light, it's a great appetizer to share between hand rolls. That said, I have to be honest, it is kinda pricey. The premium hand rolls add up quickly, so it's definitely more of a treat-yourself kind of meal rather than an everyday sushi spot. Still, if you're willing to spend on fresh hand rolls, it's worth checking them out.
