I came with a book, prepared to wait a while. They have a small lounge area, but the seating is comfortable and there is a tiny fireplace, nice to have on a cold rainy day, I was almost disappointed they finished with the car so quickly! They said that was partly because it was in such good shape that there wasn't a lot to investigate, so very good news. The other thing I noticed was that I was treated with respect and given a rundown of the results. This has not always been my experience as an older female at other places. During my wait - I had a lovely chat with the guy behind the front desk, he talked to me about the history of the shop and the experience Troy has. Another patron brought them fudge while they worked on her car and a second patron tipped them for pumping gas - in this economy?! To not fix anything!! I said my check engine light was on and wanted to know what was wrong. If they needed to do more than use an electronic reader to see what the check engine code was they should have told me ahead of time about need for (and cost of) further diagnosis. Edit: Scott (the owner) called me and apologized, saying they should have let me know about the cost of diagnostics up front before performing the work and they issued a refund. I appreciate the communication and customer service after the fact, but still wish this had been handled better from the get-go. Their price was still 500%+ higher than my guy who does car work on the side is charging for it, and while I get that they have shop costs, workers, warrantees and whatnot to cover they still seem to consistently run a significant amount higher than other shops. ($62.23 for the part which costs $25 to buy myself from AutoZone is over a 200% mark-up alone...)

After that, my car started making a rattling noise, which they claimed they "didn't hear" when I brought it back. They also said diagnosing an oil leak would be free, but then charged me. After driving about 100 miles, they told me they still couldn't find the source and that I'd need to pay more for them to remove the oil pan and keep looking. Took it to a real mechanic who found the issue in under 15 minutes. These people are full of it. Do not get anything other than an oil change done here.
