Ordered drunken noodles/chicken for pickup. Food was ready when I arrived and the portion looked small for $14.99. Thinner noodles than I am used to getting in the Richmond area but very tasty nonetheless. Only a few pieces of chicken but like I said very tasty. I've always had great food from here and it is the only place in the Roanoke and Blacksburg area that serves my favorite dessert: Sticky rice with mango! I've lived various places across the US and theirs is one of the top I've had. Also one of the only places to get an amazing Thai iced tea as well! Worst customer service I've ever had. Ordered through doordash; the calamari was basically a box full of leftover fried tempura batter. The rice had no flavor. Called to get an explanation, and spoke to a man who TOTALLY ACKNOWLEDGED that my calamari wasn't up to their standards. He remembered my order, and "hoped they'd get away with it." I called back again, and was literally screamed at by a server who answered the phone. I'm a manager of a local, large volume restaurant, and would never treat a customer like this. I go to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA and if you are familiar with the town, there aren't many dining options. On weekends, when my boyfriend and I are in the mood for some Thai food, we go to Thai Continental. We love their duck curry and crab meat fried rice. Their crab meat fried rice has a large portion and it has quite a lot of crab meat. The price of it is either $12 or $13. And when we don't finish the duck curry, we'd take it home and reheat the next day and cook some rice with it (we don't waste food :P) Their beef drunken bad is pretty good also. Starting this review like some others - when I visit Rke, I hit this place up. In my opinion they have one of the best Chicken Panang Curry's I've had. Its very creamy, hearty, with a good portion of chicken (if you're not familiar, you can select beef, chicken, shrimp or all veggie and I do chicken..) Also a nice amount of veggies to go with it. No matter the lunch or dinner portion, its a good sized portion and they'll make it mild or "Thai spicy" (very spicy) if you want. If you like Thai food then give them a try. I had the Fried Rice with Shrimp before which is kind of standard & similar in most Thai resteraunts (its comfort food - like ordering a grilled cheese, so its hard to mess up) but the Panang Curry was absolutely great, that is one you can mess up, but they do it just right! read more

Our former favorite restaurant in southwestern Virginia, Tong's Thai, has reincarnated itself as Thai Continental in a more intimate space in downtown Roanoke. We have not found a better Thai restaurant within a three-hour radius. On our first visit, we ordered our standard som tum (green papaya salad), pad thai, and green curry. The pad thai noodles were appropriately cooked, the sauce neither too oily, nor too sweet, nor too tangy, nor too tomatoey, nor too plentiful, frequent missteps of pad thai sauces at many other restaurants. Likewise, the green curry sauce was well balanced, and vegetables were fresh. Based on previous experience at Tong's Thai, I expect that other menu items will be equally tasty, fresh, and authentic (for the US at least). read more

I think I might have found Roanoke's best Thai. Or at least in the vicinity of downtown. My wife and I visited this restaurant on a cold and windy Sunday evening. We were the only folks there until another group came in as we were finishing our meal. The owner was very nice, and explained that this place used to be called Tong's Thai and was located around the corner. I visited Tong's Thai a number of times when I lived in Roanoke previously and loved it; Thai Continental maintains that quality. For our first meal, my wife and I stuck to the traditional: Pad Thai and Red Curry. Both were balanced, spicy enough and delicious. We plan to be more adventurous on our next visit since the menu is large and, well, we're within walking distance. Give it a try! read more

So glad that Tong's Thai has reappeared as Thai Continental! My other half and I ordered take out last night. They really did have the best Thai in the valley, but some very essential things have changed about the restaurant. Notice the words "continental".... they have gone into a fusion direction adding American ingredients like linguine served with Thai curry in an effort to encourage newbies to stop in. I think this is a very bad step in the wrong direction. In addition, I noticed how the green curry was less potent/spicy and more mild and creamy... Maybe I'm just looking into this too much but there were distinct flavor differences at least in the curry. Also, many of my favorite items on the menu are gone (mostly vegetable dishes and specialty dishes like clay pots). They have slashed their menu significantly because their new kitchen is apparently quite small and they were trying to make room for their "fusion" items. (sigh). On the positive side, the soup and garden rolls were amazing, the thai iced tea was perfect, and the drunken noodles and Kapow were still delicious as ever. Plus, in their new location they have improved all their prices noticeably-- seafood dishes used to run about $14 and now they're about $12 and the lunch menu is cheap. I'll keep going there and enjoying it, but I'll still beg them to add the fried string beans and eggplant dishes back on the menu.... read more

Thai Continental came highly recommended. Unfortunately the items we ordered were far from what anyone should expect of quality Thai cuisine. I generally order the same 3-4 things from every Thai place. Spring Rolls, Tom Kai Soup and either Pad Kei Mow (Drunken noodle) or Panang Curry. If we have come to know the restaurant as being high quality we will order a curry duck. On this occasion we ordered everything including the duck (I knew this was a premature move but live dangeriously my friends). Their A1. Egg Rolls were pretty good, sauce was a bit on the strong side but overall served hot and had a good flavor. But trust me on this they were nothing unique or inspired. The Tom Kai was the best thing we had. However it fell short on flavor. I didn't detect any lemon grass. The consistency was very watery as well. The chicken they served was distinctly juicy and that's not something I find with many Thai places so kudos on that front. The Panang Curry tasted like mixed veggies in dairy milk. It was very disappointing. The Duck Kapow was tender and the duck was ok. But overall the disk lacked flavor. Generally speaking Thai places will ask you how HOT / SPICY you want your dishes. This is not the case at Thai Continental. However I was excited to receive dishes spiced to the chefs specifications. Generally speaking I eat my food with TONS of spice. However I've found I prefer Thai mildly spiced as there are generally layers of flavor to be enjoyed at a moderate to mild spice level. read more

Thai Continental is an interesting phenomena to me. I think that the food's flavor is good and the spiciness at a respectable level for Thai food, but somehow the place is never very busy. And while the food tastes good, the presentation is rarely a beauty to behold. The decor is a bit interesting with some neon signs and a fascinating wooden statue outside, though neither truly screams "Thai" to me. The service has always been solid and hasn't gotten any of my orders wrong, which I greatly appreciate. Finally, they also have an entire vegetarian section of the menu and most dishes can have the meat replaced with tofu - in other words it's very easy to eat for us here! With it's central location in downtown Roanoke and good curry and Drunken Noodles (my favorite here), I wouldn't say no to Thai Continental, but it's not a star-studded restaurant for me here in Roanoke. read more

I just had a terrible meal from this place. Let me start with I don't believe in hating on food or wasting it because I have gone without but most of it went in the trash. The wonton was like a really heavy badly made chicken noodle. It was not light or delicate at all like most soups in an Asian restaurant. The crispy spring rolls were packed with black beans and tasted oddly south west as did the chicken satay. I was afraid to even touch the wings I managed one bite trying to let the meal save grace. I ordered a Pad Thai and a Pad Si Ew and they were both kind of tasteless. No worse or better than Red Jasmine in Vinton or Chabba by Tanglewood. The location is great, they have a nice place to sit outside, and the decor inside is fun with a bar to sit at as well. The staff was very friendly and it's a shame the food was not great because I really wanted to love this place after reading the other reviews. It's OK. Service is warm and friendly but the food just wasn't that great. The Massaman curry wasn't all that hot and the flavor was killed by the more than usual amounts of sugar put in it. They use thin noodle for the pad see ew which is fine, but it just wasn't cooked very well. I'm starting to finally getting around to exploring more of the Thai options in this area. This one had the better ratings on Yelp. Glad I checked it out. Those of you who come from larger cities will probably be unimpressed. But come on, take into consideration that you're talking about Roanoke. The menu here has a pretty decent selection. I had the shrimp almond which is essentially a shrimp wrapped in spring roll and fried. Not bad. I also tried the tom kha gai which is chicken in coconut and lemongrass soup. I think the version I had at Thai Orchid was better. For my entree, I went with the Panang Curry. I ordered it with beef but instead I received chicken. I was hungry, so I didn't care..much. The curry tasted pretty good, however, it was marked as spicy on the menu and I barely tasted any heat. I would have liked to have been offered another spice level. Service was alright. The man and women who seem to own the place remind me of my parents...and not in a good way. It was almost like they were nagging me and my friend. Decor was alright and on a nice day it might be worth sitting outside. Now, the question that I ask myself is...is this worth driving downtown and looking for a parking space for? Consistently awesome food and service. Everything on the menu is awesome and obviously made from scratch - even the amazing peanut sauce. The drunken noodles are always a favorite (but get it made mild unless you are ready for some serious heat!), and you can't go wrong with pad Thai. I love the different salads, and the wide variety of curries. The price is definitely reasonable, and we always take leftovers home. Dear yelp you should allow no star. Cause that's what We would like to give this place. Round 1: waitress forgot straws and utensils. Round 2: hot water had sediments in it. Round #3: green curry was watery and barely cooked. Round#4: chicken satay was plasticky. Round #5: chicken minced salad was salty with soaked with fish sauce. Final round to make a perfect meal we found hair kindly placed on the green curry chicken. I would not recommend this place for Thai food or any other ethnic food to anyone. Place stay away. Finally taking the time to leave a review about this place. We went with a couple of friends food was okay. We split the check in 3. Our friends paid, my husband paid for himself and I and I paid for my sister. My husband left a tip on his so I didn't on mine because he took care of the tip. Next day I check my account and I see that they had charged $3 dollars extra. I decide to call the place, the guy who answered said he was going to ask the owner. He thought he had put me on mute when I hear the owner saying "they didn't left a good enough tip so I added it to her bill". He had no right to do that. My husband left a good tip. read more
