A sign as you enter, to tell you what you should do.

I'm not an expert on Vietnamese Cuisine but I heard of a casual Vietnamese restaurant with a simple menu featuring Vietnamese dishes like pho and spring rolls and decided to go give it a try. It's Pho Time is a local, family restaurant, located in a strip mall of Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia. I found out that in Vietnam, pho is enjoyed at any time of day and serves as a common ground for people from all walks of life. Thus, the reason for its name: "It's Pho Time." When I arrived to this small, but clean and very simple decorated restaurant I saw a sign: "PLEASE SEAT YOURSELF." As soon as I sat down, who seemed to be the owner of the restaurant and gave me a warm welcome with a big and friendly smile. He brought a form with him and explained how here one ordered by checking the items on the form, taking it to the counter and handing it in, and waiting at your table to be served when ready. Then he answered any questions that I had about the items on the menu, and asked what I wanted to drink. I asked him for a Mango Smoothie with Boba Pearls. To my surprise they had it on the menu and this drink had become a favorite of mine since the first time I had it in another Asian restaurant called Wok N Roll Kitchen located in Downtown Roanoke. Filling out the menu / order form, I ordered Two Pork Spring Rolls as appetizer and a Glazed Pork Dish as the main course. Once I handed the form to the owner, he called out the items and family members working in the kitchen took care of preparing it and bringing it to my table when ready. The Pork Spring Rolls were amazing. I enjoyed the texture of the thin wrap, the flavory pieces of pork they had inside, together with the fresh and crispy veggies. This was served on a plate with a peanut base sauce. My main course was also very appetizing. It was a bowl full of white rice and Glazed Pork with lettuce, cucumbers, pickled carrots, dalkon, the house sauce, and an over medium fried egg. During my time there many people came in and ordered takeouts and others who seemed like repeat customers stayed and enjoyed their meal there. At the end I threw the the plastic bowl in the trash and put the tray on a pile of trays there. Then I went to the counter to pay and say my goodbye, thanking the owners and his entire family for such a wonderful meal and dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for its amazing food and extraordinary service, and plan to give them a visit again when I feel that ... "It's Pho Time."

It's Phở Time! Vietnamese Cuisine's Menu

I feel as though I do not take nearly enough advantage of It's Phở Time! being so close to my home. This Vietnamese restaurant is the best in Roanoke, VA in my opinion. While dining, you can see the staff hard at work with their open kitchen. Seating can be limited, yet comfortable, and you can order their food to go if it is too busy to wait for a table. I love how you order your food in a similar fashion to a lot of hotpot restaurants where the menu is a slip of paper that you check off what you would like. My favorite thing to order here is the Sliced Eye Round Steak Phở served with a side of basil, bean sprouts, cilantro, jalapeños, and lime. Add some Tương Ớt Siêu Cay Super Hot Chili Sauce and you are talking about a bowl of pure magic for consumption. All of the vegetables added are like throwing in a delicious garden of fresh flavors. The thinly-sliced eye round steak is tender and soaks up the Phở flavors nicely. It's Phở Time! is a real treasure of a Vietnamese culinary experience in the Roanoke area. I can't wait to dine here again.

This family-owned restaurant makes every dish with old-country-style love. They have an interesting and simple method of ordering your food from a small, but well-developed menu that allows you to easily customize your dish. I've had the Pho, the Bun Mei, and the Bun Thit Nuong. (I always get an order of Spring rolls when I go too). The Pho and the Vietnamese Sandwiches stand up to any other I've had in my travels, and as a Pho lover, I've had a lot. The restaurant is small and quaint, and makes for a perfect lunch stop. If you are already a Pho fan, or if you are thinking of trying it, Its Pho Time is a great place to go.

I have been searching for some good international food since I moved here and I found it. This whole little corner has a couple different areas of the world that I can't wait to try out. Spring rolls were fresh, dipping sauces made in house and fantastic, pho broth was well developed and there was a lot of it. Price is great for what you get. Service is fine for a sit down place. You get a sheet where you check off what you want to order and put your name on it to ensure any mistakes are your own. Make sure you ask if you have questions, although they seem perfectly willing to fix mistakes that happen. Ambiance is quaint, family oriented with a small space with a select few tables. Mostly up to 4 but can be pushed together for larger parties. Make sure you call ahead if you have 5+ people eating or get there early. For as hidden as this place is they had a constant stream of customers both eat in and take out. Loved the fact that it was family owned. Three generations working in the restaurant.

It's in a multi business strip mall. This place is on the right side on the right corner near the hair salon. It's the plaza immediately after Cuban island. Parking is pretty full so I recommend coming on an off time. Friendly staff but they weren't very helpful with explaining things. Apparently you take a form and fill it out and take it to the register to order. For that reason, I don't think it's exactly table side service. And then you go back after eating to pay... would make more sense to pay when you order and pay again if there's anything additional. Doesn't make it convenient for disabled persons. The handicapped seating is in the back and the seats are pushed very close to the table on the opposite end so anyone sitting with a disabled patron will need to keep that in mind. The chairs don't adjust and it's a very tight fit for any normal sized adult to squeeze into and out of. Decent portion size. I didn't particularly care for the meat but it was much better than Viet Sub location in Roanoke on the opposite end of Williamson. The noodles were Al dente and the broth was on the oily side. The broth was also warm and not hot. There are only 2 choices of condiments. No water, only bottled water for purchase. Everything comes in a recycle container. I got the beef broth with several cuts of beef. Small portion of the veggies and herbs. I would come back but I do think there's room for improvement. I think it would be helpful to put a sign to let people know what they're supposed to do when they walk in instead of them standing at the doorway waiting to be seated or walking to the counter and grabbing the menu( why bother if you have to use the form?) before sitting down. I give the place a 3.9 and rounded it up to a 4. Food is a 3.75/5, service is a 3.5/5.

I am so excited to have another Pho restaurant in the area! It's Pho Time has only been open for a week at this point, so this review will be my first impressions of the brand new restaurant. I'm sure there will be changes made in the future, as they continue to adapt to their customer base and needs. I really love that it's a "seat yourself" situation. We initially chose a booth, but ended up having to move as one of the seats was wet. We ended up sitting at a small table for 2 which I felt was a little small considering the large Pho bowls and sides. I'd like to see that table paired with another so it's not so awkward. We were brought some menus and order sheets for the pho. I really liked being able to check off everything that I wanted in my pho. The waitress wrote the rest of our order on the tops of our order sheets. I feel like it may be more efficient to include the rest of the menu items on the sheet. Additionally, it may be useful to add some instructions or something to communicate when you *don't* want a specific topping on your pho. For example, I selected spring onions and sliced onions for my toppings. I do not like cilantro.... I ended up having to pick cilantro out of my bowl. I think it'd be best if you could emphasize that you do not want a particular topping or garnishment to help the kitchen out a bit. We ordered shrimp spring rolls & 2 bowls of vegetarian pho. We did end up having to wait a while for our food, but it wasn't too bad and I'm sure the kitchen is still finding their rhythm. The spring rolls were excellent and wrapped well. The peanut sauce was also great! Sometimes peanut sauce tastes like straight peanut butter, which is not optimal. This peanut sauce was definitely nutty, but not overpowering and was one of the better sauces I've had at a restaurant. The pho was pretty good too. The broth was basic, but solidly flavorful (we did get the veggie broth, so nothing fancy). I did think that the veggies were a little sparse. Their facebook page stated that the vegetarian pho would include corn, carrots, broccolis, and chinese bok choy - so I was pretty excited. The bowls we received had mini corn on the cob (which I wasn't expecting, but was still good) and broccoli. I feel pretty confident that they'd just run out of the carrots and bok choy, but I would've liked to have been made aware of that when we ordered. Just a simple "hey, just letting you know we're out of carrots & bok choy" would've gone a long way. It's also possibly that they just forgot it, but it's not that big of a deal either way. In the future, I'd really like to see more veggies in the veggie pho. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. It's clear that they take pride in their work and recipes. Overall my experience at It's Pho Time was great and I look forward to coming back!

This place does their menu a little differently than others. They have an a-la-cart style where you can pick the broth, the amount of noodles, which meats and toppings you want. They do large and small bows, we had the small bowls and they were a good size. They also have a loyalty program. We also had the shrimp spring rolls and they were very good as well.

I had beef pho, my wife had chicken pho, and we had an order of spring rolls. Everything was excellent. Ordering was a little weird, but the waitress was super helpful and it didn't detract from our experience.

Love the food, deep rich broth, great little place. Thai tea is a little expensive so I might not get it here, plenty of other places around town you can get that cheaper. But the pho is a good price and great quality and so are the spring rolls.

And this love is reflected in their delicious food and in their togetherness as a couple and as a family. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. Wok N Roll Kitchen as we know it today is located at 120 Campbell Avenue, a prime location in downtown Roanoke. It was conceived and founded in 2016 by Mario and Celi, who met online, fell in love, moved to Roanoke, married, and with their years of experience in the restaurant business, decided to establish this restaurant serving a mix of Asian cuisine with a home-cooked, family-style approach, aiming for warmth and flavor in their fresh, made-to-order dishes. The Restaurant first opened in the Crafteria on Church Avenue, and then in 2020 moved to its current location. I first learned of Wok N Roll Kitchen through a good friend of mine. I went to visit him one day and he had just arrived home with a takeout order from this restaurant and shared it with me while he talked about how much he loved this food. It seems like today and always, word of mouth has been and always will be the best form of advertising. Today when I visited the restaurant, I realized that the person taking the orders and serving the food was the co-owner of this family-owned business, together with his wife. He had a wonderful personality and made you feel at home while he took your order and served your food. He talked highly of his wife and I could feel the chemistry between the two that had been the key to the success of this small business I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. It was very clean, with framed inspirational sayings on the wall, and many Assian items decorating the place, starting from the Lucky Cat to other very interesting items. I invite you to view my photographs and video clips.to get a better sense of the restaurant's decor. To start with, I ordered a Mango Smoothie with Boba, remembering that this had been the place where I had Boba for the very first time. As appetizer I ordered the Pork Fried Dumplings and for the main course, the Combo Lo Mein with chicken, beef and shrimp. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I liked the quality of the meats and vegetables in their food. The beef was tender, the shrimp was plumpy and the chicken was very tasty. And those skinny noodles tasted so good. And the amount of food was amazingly plentiful. I was even able to take part of my food home. As I was eating, several customers came by to pickup their To Go orders that they had probably made over the phone. One of their customers wearing a Virginia Tech t-shirt, had such a large order I don't know how he was able to carry it all. Another thing that was interesting was their Hours of Operation. Many of the restaurants around the area were closed on Mondays, I guess because it's considered the slowest day of the week for restaurants. Yet they were open. And they were closed on Sundays. Their reverence in God and love of family is reflected in the hours of operation of the restaurant. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Asian family-owned restaurant to everyone in the area, whether they are locals or just visiting. It is one of those rare places that you feel good about inside that they exist.

The building itself was not that impressive, nor the furniture inside, nor the interior design; but it was a clean, cozy place where you felt at home, relaxed and comfortable. The server welcomed me with open arms, and immediately she made me feel at home. After a warm greeting, she started a conversation to find out how familiar I was with Thai Cuisine and to see if I needed help choosing popular items from the menu. The menu, that had around 12 pages of a great selection of entrées, some of which were highlighted by having their photographs next to them, thus helping the customer get a better sense of the dish itself. To start off with, I ordered a Thai Iced Tea. And after stirring it like I was told by the server when she brought it out to me, literally I tasted heaven. It was not only the best tea I've ever had, but one of the best tasted drinks I've ever tasted. So much so, that I thought to myself, I have to come here again, if only just to enjoy this tea again. As appetizer I ordered the Pork Egg Roll. For my meal I ordered the Pad Thai Shrimp and the Pad Ka Paow (pork) Over Rice with Two Fried Eggs. Both dishes tasted so good. Even the fried eggs over the rice were fried to perfection, just how I like them. Take a look at my photographs accompanying my review and you will see what I mean. While I was waiting for my food to come out, that by the way didn't take long, the owner of the restaurant came out to graciously welcome me to her restaurant which I was visiting for the first time, putting her two hands together and bowing her head. She was one of the friendliest and hospitable persons that I have ever met. Being a Friday evening, the restaurant started to fill up with repeat customers, takeout customers, and even native Thais who came in very friendly and greeted the employees like if they were regulars there. For dessert I had the Mango with Sticky Rice, and they also brought me a complimentary plate with Fried Banana and Fried Taro. All this seems like a lot of food but I took the leftovers home to have for tomorrow. I highly recommend this restaurant to all of you who are reading my review. You will have a dining experience like none ever before. You will fall in love with the Thai Cuisine. And I can almost assure you that, like me, you will make this restaurant one of your favorites.

Its name takes you directly to the kitchen item most commonly used for stir-frying Chinese food…read more But unconsciously what you think about when you hear this name is the exquisite Chinese cuisine that's found inside. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And China Wok Restaurant in Roanoke, Virginia, is the perfect example. The Wok is a large, bowl-shaped Chinese cooking pan with deep sides, traditionally used for stir-frying, and invented in China over 2,000 years ago. Its origin possibly dates back to the Han dynasty. Yet by using its name as part of this Restaurant's name, it seems to remind us of the flavorful food that is the Chinese cuisine. And this small and unassuming, family-owned restaurant focuses in it's totality in delivering quality food, cooked right. And this is precisely what they deliver. I arrived at the restaurant and the outdoor parking lot sign read: "CHINA WOK RESTAURANT / CHINESE FOOD / DINE-IN CARRY OUT / 362-2266. Although the majority of its sales are Carry Out, and this is why their phone number is listed in large print on the sign, they still have a small dining area with comfortable booths where customers can come and dine in if they prefer. And in that area they even offer self-service complementary Chinese tea. They lack space due to the large demand, so this dining area is shared as a storage area as well. But everything is clean so you don't seem to mind eating in a room that is also full of boxes. As soon as I walked in, a young Chinese lady was taking the take-out order of another customer who had arrived before me. I took the opportunity to take one of their menus which was on one side of a poster size sheet of paper, and were laying on the counter. It had such a great variety of dishes, specials, and combinations plates, that I was a little lost. But when it was my turn to approach the counter, the young lady who spoke perfect English greeted me with a friendly smile and gave me a warm welcome. She even helped me find a dish when I told her that I would like something with Roast Pork. I ordered the Roast Pork with Broccoli. It came with Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. And they even included a Fortune Cookie. That's when she told me about the complimentary tea in the dining room. The young lady who took my order delivered it in person at my booth and even brought me a cup of tea with a container of sugar so that I could sweeten it. The food was amazingly delicious. I invite you to see for yourself in my photographs accompanying this review. The roast pork was so juicy and tasty, the broccoli so fresh and crispy, the egg roll not greasy at all, and the rice cooked to perfection. In conclusion, I highly recommend this Chinese Restaurant, after experiencing first hand the reason for its popularity. Their great hospitality, joined in with their amazing food, to make it an extraordinary dining experience.

Just above the restaurant's building one can see the beautiful Mill Mountain in all its splendor with the green color of the Spring and above it, the Roanoke Star, highlighted by a beautiful blue sky high above it. You can appreciate this more by viewing my photographs that accompany this review. After I entered the restaurant through two simple glass doors, the inside of the restaurant was clean, with its walls painted white, its floor tiles nice and shiny, and its decor in the minimalist style with only nice looking furniture and nice original paintings and artworks evenly spread around the walls of the restaurant. It had large windows in the front that brought in bright light. Next to the windows and walls were dark red color booths and in the middle of the dining room were tables and chairs. His mother seemed to be the cook, and his father in charge of running the Market. Through my experience I have found that this is very tipical in many ethnic groups restaurant businesses. The food all came out at once, even though I told my server that I would like my appetizers first. So I would recommend you order the appetizer first and after you're done eating it then order your main course, so the second doesn't get cold and you have more time to enjoy both while conversing with your guests. Everything was delicious: the dumplings, the pork, and the shrimp roll, although I found the rice paper a bit too thick and sticky, making it a bit difficult to handle. The sauces accompanying the food were also extremely good tasting. When I asked what they had for dessert, my server walked to the Market and brought me one of their popular desserts. Not knowing what it was, I ate it anyway. The sweet sauce was good but I didn't care much for the pieces of some type of pieces of a vegetable it had inside. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a wonderful Vietnamese Cuisine dining experience. Both the food and the service were great. So much so that I feel in the process I got to learn more about their culture as well.
