Went here at 5:30 PM. Lots of cars in the parking lot, always a good sign. But when I went inside, only three tables were being utilized. So, what were all the cars doing outside, this was the only restaurant in this little block, all other businesses were closed for the day. Oh well. They had a "special" board with three "specials" on it, but the prices were no different than what was shown on the menu, so I don't know what was up with the "specials." One of the "specials" was Pumpkin Curry. The food server was enthusiastic about this dish so I ordered it. Did not disappoint! You could order "spice level" up to "5." I normally like my food spicy, but to be cautious, I went for "3." Glad I did! As is typical with Thai food, when it goes in your mouth, you are thinking, "Oh, this is nothing" but then 2.5 seconds later YOUR MOUTH IS LIT UP! The rice was brought to you in a medium sized bowl, but it was OVERFLOWING. So, the rice amount was pretty generous. The Pumpkin Curry was worth it! Great way to eat pumpkin pieces, I ordered it with chicken, which was highly recommended by the food server, I don't think this would work with beef or pork but who knows. *********************************************** Addendum for another visit later: I went here with a friend on a different occasion and I ordered Green Curry on scale of "3" for spiciness. The food server explained that Green Curry isn't as spicy as Red Curry. The Green Curry was delicious, but I believe that I could have had this at "4" with no problem. I wish I could write a better review, but the service we received was almost worthy of no tip (for people who try to tip at least 15% if not more). The food was fine, decent enough. Unfortunately, when we walked in the main server completely ignored us after seating us and finally after 15 (possibly more, we were chatting) minutes asked if we were ready. Then she walked away and made one of the kitchen staff come out and take our food order. They never asked for drinks. There were 2 tables finishing up and 1 ordering dessert in the restaurant when we arrived, 1 more table came in while we were there that was served by the main waitress just fine. Yummy food. We had the drunken noodles and kao soi. The mango with sticky rice was very good.Make sure you tell them how hot you want it so it doesn't come too spicy. Both dishes had excellent flavor. The place is clean and the service is friendly and the food came promptly. It was a 100* day and it was cooler than outside but still about 80* in the restaurant. Don't mistake Thai Elephant for the old King & I restaurant. It's under new ownership & the food is in no way the same. The new owner is very friendly and the food is excellent. We went in for a light lunch as we weren't super hungry. We ordered Fish cakes from the appetizers (#10) which I have not seen in any of the other Thai restaurants here and happens to be one of my favorites. They were crispy, fresh and delicious. Pad pa pow (#44) with ground pork was very tasty with just the right amount of heat ... we asked for 3 stars. My daughter enjoyed the mango & sticky rice dessert. We can't wait to try some other dishes soon. I urge you to go try the food in Thai Elephant if you're tired of the same ole same ole Thai food, they do have many entrees not available at Thai Spice etc. The location is a bit of problem as they don't get any foot traffic and I hope they don't go out of business because of it. The salad rolls are great and clearly fresh made, the peanut sauce is excellent. Coming from Thailand, I judge Thai restaurants by their Tom Yum menu as the dish is my favorite and one of the most complicated dish to make. This place made me a very authentic Tom Yum shrimp, both from the look and the taste. The restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived just before 5pm on a Wednesday but quickly filled up. Service was prompt and friendly. Clean dining area. Small but decent beer and wine selection. We shared spring rolls,drunken noodles with beef and chicken pad thai and thai fried rice. 2 stars was enough heat for the extra kick without sniffing throughout dinner. Probably the best Thai I've found in the Tricities. Never eaten in, but we frequently get take out. The curry is excellent, especially the massamun curry. Wow!! First of all, thank you!! My family and I dined at Thai Elephant a couple days ago and we had such a wonderful experience. My children, mother and husband went and ordered 4 dishes to share, it was plenty of food and bonus! we had left overs for the next day. The food was out quickly, and our glasses were never left dry, but that wasn't the best part. The best part was, my very picky 6 year old cleaned his plate, not once but twice!!
