Best Pad Thai I have had in about 5 years. Very impressed. I will be returning for more in the future.

I've had the spring rolls, panang curry and fried tofu. The panang curry was great, though a bit saltier than I prefer. The spring rolls are the best that I've found in the area. The fried tofu was not to my palate. The exterior texture was was tough, though the inside was fine. The place itself looks bad on the outside, but I only ever take carry out. read more

We ordered takeout...curry pad Thai, regular pad Thai, and Panang Curry. Both noodle dishes were wonderful, but the Panang Curry was horrible. It was very thin, like soup, and had ZERO flavor. It just seemed like they forgot several ingredients, which was strange. If we didn't live 20 minutes away, I would've taken it back and had them make me something else. I was so disappointed! Absolutely amazing!! I have had a lot of Thai in my life, and we just moved back to GR from California and there are a lot of authentic thai places there, this one is one of the best I have been to! Curry pad thai is my favorite dish and theirs was so good! It still had the sweet pad thai flavor with that Curry spice which was so so good. They serve a spring roll with your meal and have cute little cheesecake bites for desert! I will absolutely be returning. This has quickly become our go to spot! read more

Las Vegas Thai restaurants have spoiled me. My fav local LV chain is Archie's Thai. Trying to find those tastes here and this was 1st place I tried. I like bold spicy food so order things at least level 5 heat. I got two dishes for takeout, Pad Thai noodles and a brown sauce dish more Chinese than Thai. Prices were about $8 on each dinner. Service was good although premises is tiny it was neat and clean and food is made pretty much in front of you behind the counter. REVISIONS: Because it is close to home I did return about 5 times in 2014 and revised my rating. Found several dishes that they prepare well like the spicy eggplant which has become a fav. If I could give them 100 stars I would do it gladly. This not just the best Thai food I've ever had, it's also one of my very favorite restaurants to frequent. The staff is so lovely and the atmosphere is casual and comfortable. The food is absolutely divine and it's all cooked fresh. It's small so you may wait longer when it's busy, but it's completely worth it. That's the difference between going somewhere that cooks your food opposed to somewhere that just heats it up. Best Thai food in town, I drive across town just for their food. Great prices, great food, great service.

We love visiting Thai Express and have been faithful customers of theirs for years. Now that our kids are a little older, we bring them along too. They have the best Thai food we've found in Grand Rapids, authentic and delicious, and the servers are always friendly. It's hard to go wrong with anything on the menu, but we particularly like the Kai satay and spring rolls for appetizers. Sometimes we'll stop by just to pick up some spring rolls. The peanut curry (with noodles) is the absolute best, but sometimes it's hard to decide between that and the massaman curry. The vegetables are always fresh and crunchy, the food is hot when it comes to the table, and the tofu is cooked just right. We're lucky enough to live close by, but it would definitely be worth a trip across town to eat there. read more

We ordered takeout and were excited to try the food based on the reviews, hoping to have finally found a good Thai restaurant in GR. Sadly, the food was not very good at all. We got a Chicken Pad Thai, which tasted bland, and my biggest issue was that the bean sprouts mixed into it were all soggy and a dirty bluish gray color, very unappetizing. The lime it came with was also a grayish color as though it were a few days old. We also got a Chicken Masaman Curry. The portion was generous but the consistency was very watery, like soup, and for vegetables had mostly onions. Perhaps the in-restaurant experience is better, but takeout was unimpressive. The best Thai food I have had, especially for these prices. 5.75 buys a meal that easily gives leftovers, and is awesomely delicious. You choose how spicy you want your meal. You can also decide what kind of meat you'd prefer (or tofu). There is technically free-wifi offered (if the sign is correct), though you won't have time to use it. Your food will arrive too quickly. It has a diner-like atmosphere (with the asian twist), but is quite clean. If you have the chance, choose to eat here. The prices make this an especially nice place for students. My partner took me here for an anniversary. We walked in and I was a little surprised, the restaurant is small, the kitchen is behind the pay counter so you can see all of the food being cooked. The cook is an older lady and the place seems to be family run. (which is usually a great sign in my book) We sat down and I looked at the prices, a 3 course meal for both of us for just over $20.... hmmm.... now I am a little skeptical..... We had the sampler, 2 different curries and desert. Apart from the ice cream sandwich the food was wonderful. The look of the restaurant and the prices do not matter when the food tastes like this. We are from Kalamazoo and go to GR once a month and go to this restaurant every time. We keep saying we want to try other places, but we keep going back to Thai Express! read more

Good Thai food. Not the best I've ever had, but I would go back. We started with the tom yum (lemongrass soup). It was my least favorite item we ordered-- the broth tasted like plain chicken broth with a few chili flakes thrown in. I didn't taste lemongrass at all. I had pad thai with tofu as my entrée. The tofu was cooked perfectly, but the rice noodles were a bit over cooked, mushy, and greasy at the bottom. My husband had the drunken noodles with chicken which were really tasty-- the large basil leaves gave it great flavor! Each meal comes with a spring roll and dessert (ice cream sandwich or bite of cheesecake) plus a fortune cookie & mints. The prices are very reasonable, and the thai iced tea or coffee comes with free refills!! Although, I thought my thai iced tea was a bit too sweet. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was casual. I always like a restaurant where I can see the staff cooking-- the woks are visible from the dining room. read more

Absolutely the sweetest staff ever. 5+ stars for that. Unfortunately, the food left much to be desired. My shrimp pad thai was ok....not much flavor but the amount of shrimp was adequate. The tom yum soup was very disappointing. It was basically chicken broth with some vegetables and tofu...no galangal, lemongrass or lime leaf in sight. The food was so bad I doubt any of the reviewers with favorable ratings had eaten Thai food before. The pad Thai smelled weird and tasted weirder. Had like a dirty fish sauce/Jasmine tea after taste and I could not even eat it. Their cucumber salad is two cucumber triangles in a cup of liquid. Super weird. Chicken satay was poor quality meat seasoned and prepared poorly. What a bummer. Spring rolls were ok but if you do not eat them while they're super hot they have a dirty/gross oil smell and taste. read more

The vegetables were very fresh and the sauce they used was exactly what I had asked for. Very authentic Thai food. It's really just a kitchen with a few tables. Most people come in for takeout. This restaurant may not look like much from the outside, tucked away as it is inside one of the more depressing strip malls in the Grand Rapids area, but don't let looks deceive you: it is an excellent choice for Thai food lovers. I went with my wife and I got the pad thai while she got one of their curry dishes. Both were excellent. My only minor complaint is that there didn't seem to be much of a difference in spiciness between our dishes, even though my wife ordered hers with a spiciness level of 4 out of 10 and I ordered mine with a 7. We both really enjoyed our dishes, though, and we both had enough left over for lunch the next day. At around $16 total for both meals, that's a bargain. The dinners even come with desserts, although the ice cream sandwiches and mini cheesecakes being offered were decidedly not authentic Thai food.
