We were just looking for basic Thai food, and were pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a place! The atmosphere was a cut above most midwestern Asian restaurants we have visited. The food was fresh and made to order. We started with Chicken Satay, then shared the Pineapple Delight and General Tao Chicken. All of the food was excellent. But, if you are waffling on an appetizer - get the Satay! And, with your last bites, roll up the chicken, sauce and salad into the lettuce - to die for! Seemed like too much sauce when they brought it, but we scraped the bowl clean. The main dishes were more than plenty of food, plus they were flavorful and fresh. Since we shared and have different spice preferences, they brought us a small bit of pepper to up the spice to our liking. I wish that were in a shaker, but that's literally the only thing I would change. Staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. To top it off - mints on the way out the door (I don't know why that always makes me happy, but it does.) As a self-proclaimed pho expert of the 515 - this is doable but not Thai Flavors' best dish. Which makes sense cause it's Thai and not Viet. One of my favorite entrees is Chicken Fried Rice so I tried the new "Kimchi Fried Rice" with chicken which was not as fresh and fried as I was used to from other Thai Restaurants,. The dish had more of a different Asian infusion which gave it a different more steamed than fried taste. The Chicken Egg Rolls were good and the service was acceptable. The low musical tones did not signal an exuberant mood that made you want to stay and enjoy the window view. Parking is an issue with limited street parking though there were spaces in the back of the building. I was pleasantly surprised to find a nice Thai joint close to the Des Moines downtown. They had a good choice of vegetarian dishes. I ordered vegetarian pad Thai and sushi roll. Food was delicious and prepared well. Staff was courteous, and service was good I ordered a Thai beer to go with the food. I walked to the place but did see enough parking spots around the place. Ambiance: The interior was nice and relaxing, with an R&B mix playing that reminded me of a wedding I attended as a kid. Service: The server was attentive and made sure I had everything I needed. Food: I ordered the duck fried rice and paid the extra charge for real duck. However, it tasted like tofu and lacked the flavor or texture of actual duck. I wish I could start with a negative star. We were so disappointed to find that this restaurant "Thai Flavor on Ingersoll" had no proper vegetarian options. In this day and age, it's surprising and frustrating not to have at least one meat-free dish on the menu. All the main dishes on the menu had some kinda fish sauce to it and what was more disappointing is that The staff offered no alternatives or accommodations, which made the experience even more disappointing. Stopped in for a late lunch with my daughter. I have eaten the food here a number of times from Grubb Hub but I have not been in before. The service was excellent from the time we were seated until the check was paid everything was spot on. The food was of good quality and was packed with flavor. And the Thai iced coffee. We really like the other location and we happen to be on the right side of town when we got a craving for thai. About 6 pm on a Friday and we walked right in and was sat right away. The atmosphere was welcoming. There is a bar to the right and to the left is the seating for the dining area. There is also a small sushi bar but it appears that most of the action is in the back. We were sat by the wall of windows and our waitress was at our desk in no time. She was very sweet and very attentive. We were pretty hungry and decided to have a sushi roll and two entries. I ordered the Pad Thai and paid the extra for the chicken. The hubby ordered a yellow curry. We also ordered Mango Salsa Roll: Tempura shrimp, cream cheese, cucumber topped with mango salsa, red tobiko, spicy mayo and unagi sauce. This was a really good roll. It was unique in flavors and really hit the spot. The entries were large sized and I was able to bring home enough food for multiple meals. The food was all good and the spice was right. You get to pick your spice and we both are babies and only picked 2. I think I would recommend this location. My wife and I took the chance to try it out for dinner last night and while nothing stood out that would make it 'top of the list' of Thai restaurants in Des Moines, it is clearly a solid option if you enjoy Thai food. For our dinners, I ordered the Yellow Curry with chicken and brown rice at a 4 out of 6 pepper spice level (see picture) and my wife ordered the Panang Curry with beef at a 4 out of 6 pepper spice level (see picture). Our server shared that these were the #2 and #1 most popular dishes there, respectively and after tasting them we can understand why. As we always do, we shared tastes of each others dishes and both of us enjoyed both dishes. The 4 pepper spice level seemed good for both of us also, as it was enough to make your nose run a little, but not so hot that it required lots of water while consuming it. I would recommend both of these dishes if you are stopping by to eat. The atmosphere was modern and clean and the value seemed in line with other Thai options in Des Moines. The only slight hiccup during our visit was my Yellow Curry that I ordered with chicken. For some reason, our server mistakenly delivered calamari instead. It was still very good (didn't want to waste it and send it back) and our server was kind enough to bring some steamed chicken on the side to add to the curry. I think Liam Anivat is the major owner and I remember his food at Thai flavors on East 14th Street long ago. He has become quite a entrepreneur of Thai restaurants he is the major owner of Cool Basil and Clive and banana leaf. He is really worked hard to have very large restaurants that serve delicious Thai food. We had a group of 30 for lunch for a birthday partyand they were very accommodating. It's conveniently located along Ingersoll with limited parking in the front and some parking on the side and a large amount of parking in the rear. It can be a busy place so depending on the time of day lunch or dinner you may have to walk a little from your parking spot to the restaurant. The restaurant is clean modern and as an extensive Bar menu. It is similar menu items to his other restaurants. On this particular day I had the ginger beef and some taste of Hawaiian fried rice. Both were excellent. I always like to support a locally owned business. Liam has developed quite a system and serving large amount of people at all his restaurants although the East 14th restaurants still has that old mom and pop kind of feel. When he first opened his first restaurant there were not that many Thai restaurants around town. Now he's open many himself and there are other many quality Thai food restaurants around town I think all of his restaurants have some healthier menu including fresh vegetable dishes. I believe they all have vegan dishes as well. Of course the restaurant has pot stickers basil stir fry, pad thai, and other traditional Thai restaurant dishes. There is lots of variety in the menu including traditional sushi dishes and bento boxes It's also about expectations, everyone is under staffed, so I always appreciate the service staff who are working. Having said that the service was fast and efficient . It's also about being realistic about the food. Although we had one server for our group all the other servers pitched in to make sure the food was served quick and hot. There are lots of lunch specials as well smaller size dishes of traditional Thai food there's about 10 different kinds. I would definitely check this place out.
