A cute hidden gem in downtown Iowa City. Parking can be tricky on a busy day, but we found a spot in the nearby parking garage, which worked well. They brought waters to our table quickly, which was a nice touch. There were a couple of hiccups with our order--they forgot a dish, and my friend specifically asked for no cashews, but they still added them (thankfully, no allergies). That said, the server was super apologetic and fixed everything quickly, so I appreciate the effort. Now, onto the food--Thai Flavors definitely lives up to its name! Probably the best Thai food I've had in Iowa City. The Pad Thai was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, with great texture. The red curry was rich, warm, and packed with flavor, and the pineapple fried rice had just the right mix of sweet and savory. The gyoza and egg rolls were super fresh and crispy--highly recommend those too! The atmosphere is relaxed, the service was okay (minus the mix-ups), and the prices are reasonable. This use to be one of my favorite spots, however the last few times ordering delivery there's always issues. This last time 3 entrees, 4 deserts and 2 apps didn't arrive. Tried to call the store and was met with a robot asking me for login information, and no way to actually contact the store. Look, I've had issues here and there from lots of restaurants from multiple delivery companies but it's been every time with this location regardless if it's DoorDash, Uber Eats etc. and now with no way to contact the restaurant to resolve an issue I think I'm done ordering from them. I order Thai Flavors for delivery via the Yelp app on a random weeknight I didn't want to cook. Pricing seemed on point for the entrees considering the portion size. I thought the price of appetizers was a bit high, though. ($8-9 for a four piece rangoon/veggie roll.) Also, that the service fee plus the delivery fee were steep, IMO. It was super convenient to order via Yelp for takeout OR delivery. My order came piping hot, was exactly what I ordered and arrived right on time. The pad Thai had excellent spice to it, it really hit the spot. The chicken fried rice was a fan favorite. This restaurant is open daily and has lived in downtown IC for decades-- you can see why! Return trip to Thai Flavors, first review. This trip included my lovely wife, daughter and her boyfriend. Thai Flavors is their favorite spot, and they've both experienced Thai restaurants in several other cities. We all enjoyed our dishes, and the spice levels here legit. Last time here I had the Drunken Noodles at spice level three and was barely able to complete my meal. I enjoy spicy hot, but went with a two this time and found it easier to enjoy for my palette. The duck was tender and flavorful. The Pad Thai was delicious. The service was top notch both times we've dined here. Servers were attentive and extremely courteous. The restaurant itself was clean, cozy, and comfortable. We will definitely return the next time we're in Iowa City. read more

Delivery curry - yes please. Ok this place must have two different cooks with two different versions of yellow curry. The yellow curry itself is pretty similar however the added ingredients (in the curry) differ. One of them adds LOTS OF water chestnuts (which I really don't like) and the others does not. Both have potatoes and sliced carrots. Next time I order, I'll make sure to note that I do not want the water chestnuts and cross my fingers that they pay attention to the request. The fried noodles with chicken on the other hand, are consistently delicious and with a very large portion. While the noodles don't taste like they are homemade (like I'm used to) the overall dish is good and tastes like comfort food. Finally, don't sleep on the fried tofu (tofu delight). It's just the perfect combo of crunchy exterior and chewy/soft tofu interior. A must order in my opinion. Overall closer to a 3.5 but when the right chef is in, definitely a 4! read more

Ordered Thai Flavors on Christmas Eve and the service was fast from order to picking it up. One of my favorite things they did was they packed the drunken noodles into a tin foil to keep it warm. When we opened it the great Thai aroma flowed right into my nose and the food was as if it we were dining in. The drunken noodles were perfect spice for my spice loving self, I got a 5/5. I definitely would order this again and the portion size was solid. I also got the egg rolls, which were good as well but felt the price was a bit high given the size of the egg rolls. I ordered food through Uber Eats and decided to try the place as I pass it going home. They have a good amount of selection and the price is reasonable. My order was prepared fast and it didn't took long for the food to get delivered so that's a plus. I decided to order Tom Yum with pork and Pad Thai. I was not impressed with the soup compared to the other 2 Thai places I have tried here as well back in TX and CA. The soup is just sour with no depth on flavors at all. I was disappointed as that's my favorite soup. However, the Pad Thai was delicious. I'm not going to count this out yet. I will try some more items and go from there. read more

I ordered the pad Thai and shared a side of the crab Rangoon from here. I've had Thai food from all over the country, and though there are variations in preparation, they all tasted more or less the same. The pad Thai here was a pretty extreme departure from all the others I've eaten. It tasted like buttered noodles, with a hint of peanut flavoring, and was dry. Where is the flavor? Might be better off calling this dish sad Thai. The saving grace was the crab Rangoon, which was super sweet and tasty, but the actual wonton was a bit on the chewy side. read more

Scanning the reviews, almost all are typical obsequious, best-ever omg omg; and a few cranks, plus a shocking report of detritus in the food. I have a 35+ yr history with Thai food, mostly Bay Area and Portland Oregon I try to leave reviews that are useful Pleasant, small restaurant with very little of the ethnic kitsch that is usually in these places, waiter not Asian. Food was mediocre FOR THAI. That is still good. One attribute of poor Chinese and other heavily sauced cuisines is in my vocabulary, gloppy. This was noticeably crisp, or not over cooked, or whatever would make it gloppy. Pleasant for that attribute alone. What it does lack is the seasoning or whatever-it-is that makes a lot of Thai outrageous. I am new to Iowa. I hope this isn't as good as it gets. After hearing about Thai Flavors for years, I finally pulled the trigger on getting some delicious Thai food delivered. We had an excellent meal and will be ordering it again. The Green Curry with pork was my favorite dish. Some excellent flavors and just enough heat. We also got Pad Thai with chicken and the Hawk Rolls. The Pad Thai was very tasty. I think next time I'll get it without the meat because I don't feel like that added much. The Hawk Rolls were solid, but unspectacular. We'll probably try something else on the apps list next time. read more

What an amazing meal at Thai flavors! The fried noodles with combination meat is my newest craving. There has to be something in it that makes it irresistible. It is the perfect balance of flavor, Sweet and spicy. I also liked the fact that I could choose my spice level on a scale of 1-5 making for a customizable dish. The Thai toast appetizer is also something very unique and is served with a sweet cucumber salad that really compliments the greasy Thai toast. The prices seem great for the portion sizes and the service was on point when I was there. I know that has been a problem for other reviewers in the past so hopefully that is a problem that they have worked out. If you want Thai food In the Iowa city area I highly suggest trying the fried noodle dish and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. read more

Horrible experience, ordered via grub hub. Was eating and found pieces of plastic or paintchips in my food????? Like how does this happen? How hard is not not to have non edible objects in food. Now I'm gonna be watching my self for the next couple days Incase I swallowed some of it, and need to go to the dr. I put some of the pieces in a baggy so everyone can see what this restaurant is ok with putting in their food for people to ingest. We dined on a very busy on a Friday night; the staff tried to accommodate as best they could! (4 stars because if you have time and patience, the food is very good!) Generous portions of our dishes. I thoroughly enjoyed the Fried Flat Noodles with fried tofu, which had just the right amount of heat for me. My husband had the Rama Shower with steamed tofu. We also ordered the Hawkeye Rolls. Thai flavors is located inside, what we assume to be an old house or apartment building. They're putting it to good use for sure! We came in with a group of friend and while the place was pretty busy, we were seated after about 10 minutes. The booths are only big enough for 4 people so if you've got more coming, you'll likely wait for more seating. The place is a little on the cramped side, but not uncomfortably so. As is the case with many of the Thai establishments in IC, they're understaffed so getting waters and menus took a while. Once our orders were in, beverages took about 10 minutes to come out and the appetizers took about 20. Overall, not a huge deal, but you could tell the servers were stretched as there were literally 2 for the 15 or so tables in the place. Crab Rangoons and Fried Tofu graced our table prior to the main course. The sauce that came w/ the Tofu was excellent and our Tofu connoisseur friend said the tofu was good. In true tofu form, I though it tasted like the sauce we put on it...which was very good! The Rangoons were huge and the better of the two appetizers. The Tom Kha soup was 4/5. Good flavor, but lacking that zing that the exists in the soup at Thai spice. This didn't have much ginger in it and may have been the thing we were looking for. The main courses were good, but varied from subpar to above average. The Pud See Ew was mediocre with the beef leaving something to be desired. On the other hand, the Drunken noodles were excellent - word to the wise - add some egg, it's totally worth the extra $1. Ginger chicken and the curry our friends tried were both good, not great. The curry tasted a little burnt - actually reminiscent of how the little 4th of July "snakes" smell. In the end, Thai Flavors was middle of the road food with slow service. The folks that work here are nice, but they could use a couple more people for weekends and busy times. Highlight was the Drunken noodles. Worth trying, but with the knowledge that there is better Thai in the area. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Iowa City. My husband and I always order a Chicken Yellow Curry and a Beef Pad Thai. A semi-salty and semi-sweet combination. Portions are a good size too. Drunken noodles and drunken fried rice are pretty good too. Seems to me that Thai fried rice is a lot more worth it to buy as a meal than Chinese fried rice. More intricate flavors, and not just your side dish to eat with your main dish. We've also ordered a few appetizers .. the fried tofu that comes with a sweet sauce to dip it in (delicious!!!!) and the fried tofu were nice and crispy. But the tofu pieces are tiny and there's not too many of them, so it just left us eating it sparingly and wanting more. Not too big an appetizer for the price. The thai toast was pretty interesting too. Can't remember exactly what was in it, but it was crunchy, had a little meat in it .. and tasted great. Again, a bit too small for what we'd want for the price, but good. Staff is really friendly here too. Pretty good service. read more

I've been to Thai flavors too many times to count but I love this place. In college I use to work over at Kum n Go and the cook/owner would always bring food over for us. My first time ever eating tofu was at Thai flavors. I never realized how great tofu could taste until that day. They have a delicious Pad Thai and I love their fried noodles. Not a huge fan of their hours but the food is so good so I'll let it slide. Please go visit this awesome Thai spot. read more

I got the chicken satay( dry/ no flavor) and chicken LARP (I didn't get any cucumbers or rice with my order). The two scoops of rice and three eggs that my fiancé got was dry and they had almost finished all of the rice by time they brought out the fried eggs. The cook came out to see who ordered the eggs. From the sidewalk, it looks like a little-known hangout, perhaps deserving of repeat biz by in -the-know locals. Of course I have to check it out! Upon sitting down, the bench seating gave me a back ache and the Thai music drone, although at first innocuous, began to sound like nails on a chalkboard. Drinks: Ice water was delivered with the average service (good on balance, but I ran out of Frothy Brew and had to flag the waitress) The beer was barely chilled which came out of an old Dr. Pepper cooler....it would have likely gone down better with a couple ice cubes (never thought I'd say that!) The Chang beer was skunky, yet the Blue moon was good as expected. Food: Ordered Chicken Satay for an app and Drunken Noodles with Chicken, 4.5 out of 5 spice. Satay was dry and overcooked, maybe over-zealous on the oyster sauce, however Peanut sauce satisfied (albeit tough to screw up). They nailed the spice level on the Drunken noodles which were very good overall, yet some of the chicken was stuck together (and didn't taste quite right) and the dish was maybe a touch over-sauced, although tasty. Veggies were delicious. Overall 4/5 on the entree. Bottom line: This place could do some serious business if the management made a few tweaks with the ambiance centered around their wheelhouse customers (twenty something professionals, walk-by college students, and locals), and focused on some overlooked details. read more

My favorite drink to get is the Thai iced coffee, and dish is the fried noodle which they can make very spicy. The sauce they use is very sweet, but you can make any dish spicy with a heat level from 1-5. All around a great spot for lunch or dinner for Thai food. read more
