Bad Pad Thai, Flavorless Pineaaple Rice, Blanr DrunkenNoodles

WHAT A SHAME! Their PAD THAI is horrendous!!!! Taste like wet old clothes and smells like wet dog. They don't use any Pad Thai Sauce, Fish Sauce or Tamarind Paste like most places/recipes, so the color is bland. No fresh herbs, green onions, chives, bean sprouts or lime added. Taste really, really weird!!! I ended up having to ADD my own Pad Thai Sauce at home AND lime to give it flavor. The Drunken noodle is really bland and disgusting. Finally ordered Pineapple Combo Rice and it's missing flavor kinda of bland. I AM SOOO DISAPPOINTED IN THIS PLACE!! SECOND TIME ORDERING AND FINAL!

Came here on a week day. They only have 4 tables here, so depending if it's busy I imagine there might be a wait. That being said it wasn't busy when I went and was easy to be seated. The restaurant is located in a strip mall but in its own small parking lot. I had to park in the next section a few feet away, which is something to think about if it is raining hard. Service was great and the waiter had great knowledge of different Thai foods and mentioned it's possible to make modifications to certain dishes. Overall I enjoyed the food. I ordered boat soup, larb gai, and crispy pork appetizer. All dishes were pretty comparable to other restaurants I've been too. Lastly this place has relax feeling. I felt like I was transported to someone's small home for a dinner meal. Definitely a place to go if you're looking for some peace and quiet.

Spring rolls - these were alright.

Ordered takeout on New Year's Day because it was the fastest on the delivery app I used. Didn't realize it was this place that I had removed from my list years ago. Well, the spring rolls were ok. The Panang curry was good, albeit very brothy. The chicken was at least proper, which brings me to... the drunken noodles. We ordered them with pork so we didn't have chicken in both. The pork was overly big chunks, that had not been properly separated so there were giant squids of pork chunks strung together through the noodles. Which wouldn't have been the end of the world, but it tasted off, like it had turned. So total-total, I need to remember which restaurants I have learned not to order from.

I wanted to eat something warm due to the recent cold temperatures, so I decided it was the day to try boat noodles! Currently, this place only has 1 table, which seats 4 people. I lucked out on a Saturday evening and got the table when I got there. The boat noodles dish (with beef) was so good!! The broth was rich and flavorful. I loved the pieces of liver and pork rinds garnished on top. I found myself using a lot of the vinegar dipping sauce that they give you on the side. My bf got the ten ta fo, which tasted delicious as well. Next time, I'm definitely ordering this for myself! We also got the moo ping appetizer, which came with sticky rice. We took this back with us to eat later & found that it travels well. The Thai ice tea and the Thai iced coffee were waaaay too sweet for our tastes. I didn't taste much coffee in the iced coffee...

This still my favorite Thai food place, they balances spicy, sweet and salty very well. But recently I ordered their delivery and the size of dessert was so small.

Really good Thai food here!!! I've ordered take out a few times and they have always been on point with service and taste. The place is tiny so always call ahead to get an estimate of the wait. My favorite dish - Lao style papaya salad. Just ask them to make it Lao style, they do it! Drunken Noodle - get it with seafood. Also, ask them to cook the noodle with high heat extra long to get that dark wok char on it. If you don't ask, they won't do it! Authentic drunken noodles have that wok char taste. I hope you enjoy, it really is a great Thai restaurant.

Great menu for authentic thai foods. Great parking spaces. Located next to Shilla Bakery in Anandale. Check them out!

tl; dr - An oasis of excellent Thai cuisine in the middle of "Korea Town", aka Annandale, VA. Thai Food is a very unassuming restaurant located in a strip mall along busy Route 236. During my weekly visits to the Shilla Bakery (https://www.yelp.com/biz/shilla-bakery-and-cafe-annandale-annandale) in the same shopping center, I've often wondered if this place was worth a visit. So after seeing Hannah H's most recent glowing review as well as getting an endorsement from a Thai co-worker, I had to check the place out. My only regret was not stopping in sooner, since the food is legit!!! The interior is not fancy at all. The SMALL-ish dining room with just a few tables on the perimeter with one L-O-N-G communal table in the center, has plenty of natural light from big window in the front, with a few pictures of Thailand on the wall. Be prepared for an "intimate" dining experience during peak times. I'm always encouraged when I see patrons of a particular cuisine dining at said establishment. During my few visits, I noticed lots of Thai customers. And while I have not yet sampled the vaunted Boat Noodle Soup yet, this place cooks up some awesome noodles. First off, let me say I'm impressed by the portion sizes. I'm getting kind of annoyed at Thai joints which serve up a plate of Pad Thai or other noodle dish, and then "garnish" it with a few pieces of shrimp or pork and then charge $13 to $15...say whaaaat? My plate of Pad See Ew arrived with succulent slices of pork, plentiful Chinese Broccoli, and overflowing noodles. And the dish wasn't overly sauced, but still was very flavorful which is representative of a skilled hand in the kitchen. And the standard bearer of Thai cuisine, the Pad Thai was also exceptional. Too often nowadays, Thai restaurants feel the need to make this dish overly sweet and the noodles are gloppy. Not here, the noodles had a nice springy chew to them and the shrimp were cooked to perfection. And there was actually enough to take home for lunch leftovers the next day! Thai Food is one of those rare family-run neighborhood gems. The care and quality shows in the cooking and friendly service. If you are fan of Thai Cuisine, do yourself a favor and just GO!

Good food at a reasonable price. However, the service was slow as the waitress was always in the kitchen.

My friend who isn't typically a fan of thai tea really liked Mae Ornnit's version, because it wasn't that sweet. We also liked the strawberry smoothie! Some of our food favorites were the moo ping with sticky rice as an appetizer. The pork marinade was really good! The crispy chicken with green curry was also delicious. The chicken had a great crisp, and it wasn't an overwhelming amount of green curry. The volcano tom yum dish using Mama instant noodles was a visually stunning dish. It was also tasty, served with a lot of seafood. The Mama cup was repurposed to hold veggies. I kind of wished there were more seasoning or some sauce with the veggies because they were a bit dry, but we mixed it in with the noodles, so no biggie. We devoured the mango sticky rice, that was about $9. We should've ordered 2 of those to share amongst us 4. The mango was perfectly ripe and delicious!!! Very friendly staff who checked on us often, despite being really busy (on a Tuesday night!!) I'd come back here to enjoy comfort Thai dishes and Isan-style Thai food.

On a mid-Saturday afternoon, the restaurant was about ¾ full. We started out with the Wonton Soup and the Spicy Wonton soup. The Wonton soup is just okay, but the Spicy Wonton Soup is wonderful and highly recommended. For another appetizer, we ordered the Scallion Pancake. It has a nice dense texture and I really liked it. It would've been even better if it came with a dipping sauce. We also ordered the pickled cabbage. It was good, though lacking seasoning. Our first entrée was ground pork in a delicious sauce accompanied by sprouts and thinly sliced cucumber (or was that zucchini?). Recommended! Our second entrée was a Pan Fried Beef Bun. The beef was flavorful but the bread was kinda dry. Our last entrée was the Beef Wraps. These were great! Who woulda thunk that beef and fresh carrots would go together so well?! Oh, the chili sauce in a jar on the table is extra tasty. At the end, before we got our check, we were given a plate with sliced cucumbers in a light tasty sesame chili sauce. Excellent! But the hot tea was an epic fail. It had no flavor whatsoever. Peeking inside the teapot, all I could see was a micro tiny tea bag floating or sort of sinking. One other thing I kinda don't want to bring up in light of the great food we enjoyed, but need to in the spirit of full disclosure, is to mention that A&J shares space in the building with several other businesses. The restrooms are common to all the businesses. A&J needs to lean hard on the property owner/manager to do a deep cleaning in those restrooms. I'll leave it at that.

The fried catfish were nicely fried with a perfect coating. Definitely a dish to get. The pork shoulder is another dish to get. Nicely seasoned with sticky rice. Their version of pad thai is uniquely different than Thai. A bit more sweet but the lime makes it better. Wife wanted to try bua loy dessert. It is a warm sweet dessert that balanced out all the salty flavors of the dishes. Something to try as well. Flavor are still the same. The dishes we order were too much for 2 of us.
