We happened to be lucky and stay at Residence Inn just behind Elephant Jumps. We had a trip to tour Thailand a few years ago which including cooking classes. This place is one of the most rounded taste of Thailand since we went on the trip. food was awesome and will be back. I was super happy to have tried this place out. I'm surprised that rating for this place is on the lower side. It's definitely authentic Thai. I had the Ladd Na Moo Mug. The wok flavoring in the noodles was definitely present, the noodles itself were nice and bouncy, and the gravy was really good. They really know how to make the dishes spicy, like actual Thai spice. I would also recommend trying out some of their other dishes rather than the basic dishes that everyone seems to get at every Thai place. Some of the dishes cannot be altered at all and it says it on the menu as well. If you need more spice, you can ask for a spice tray. It's also not hard to do a small taste test of each spice before adding it into your dish to see which one would pair well (this is in reference to another review here lmao). read more

Great new Thai place for my go-to list. Found this spot based on favorable reviews and it did not disappoint. Started with a Thai iced tea that was smooth and well balanced. Next had the crispy salmon salad with medium spice. This really impressed me as the fish wasn't dry at all to compensate for being fried. The medium spice level was a tad too much but didn't ruin the dish. For an entree we got the crispy basil and pork belly. Blown away! Both the pork and basil had a great crisp and I liked the sautéed onions. Dessert was mango sticky rice. Nice sized portion and cooled off my mouth from the heat of dinner. We were comped a neat dish for Valentine's Day: a beautifully presented purple bean paste something with a spicy as heck center. We stopped here for a celebratory lunch. I thought it was only ok. They don't have a normal pad see ew option which is our favorite Thai dish. They also don't let you pick spice levels and just bring the spices out but I didn't really know which ones to use. The pineapple fried rice and drunken noodles were also just ok. Our waitress was nice but kept disappearing so we would have to wait around for more water, boxes, the check, etc. Sad to say I won't be back. read more

I've been coming here since they first opened when I was a kid (I think?) and they have never failed me. Their pineapple fried rice is classic -- both with and without the curry powder, which is not spicy. We always get a whole host of appetizers: chicken satay, golden triangle, spring roll, and fried shrimp, which really rounds out the whole meal well. I've also had their pad see ew and their drunken noodles. Spice can definitely hit, so bring it up with your server if it is in fact a concern! The prices are significantly more reasonable than Sisters Thai down Gallows Road and I honestly like the two about the same, but this place feels a lot more homey. We asked for medium spice but it was void of any spice. The $5 spring roll app was 2 of the smallest rolls cut in half. Very disappointing. Disappointing subpar bland food, and doesn't measure up to the glowing rave reviews. The Thai restaurant is tucked in the corner of a small shopping center next to CVS. It was bustling on Sat night at 8pm with nearly every table full when I picked up my carry-out order. The Pad Thai was very dry, bland, sweet, and not fresh. It seemed to be made in a bulk batch and sitting under a heat lamp. The fried tofu was stiff and dense. The Penang Curry was very runny with a spicy kick (I requested mild). While the curry was flavorful and came with steamed tofu and a medley of veggies, I wish there was a stronger peanut flavor. Fun to try, but not a fan. Neisha Thai in Tyson's is my go-to! read more

Been a customer for years and food always good. Recently tried the soft shell crabs and got sick I suspect food poisoning. I would not recommend consuming any seafood in this establishment. As I recall one of the crabs had a bitter taste. I think they should inspect all the crabs and rethink serving them to be on the safe side. read more

The food was a 3.5/5, but lowering it to a 3/5 because of pricing & cleanliness (or lack of). There was a fruit fly crawling in my romaine lettuce, so they probably don't wash or take a close look at the food they are serving to others beforehand. The servers are very nice and did a great job accommodating this and were in general very helpful when we were deciding on what to order. My friend and I saw the pictures of the food here and thought it was a lot more authentic than other Thai restaurants we've been to. So we came with a lot of high hopes, ready to order something from their authentic menu. GANG LAY CURRY - 20 This is the slow-cooked pork in curry which comes with sticky rice and some romaine lettuce. The portion size was pretty small, imo. I thought the pork would be a lot more tender, but a lot of pieces were dry and dull. The curry was savory with hints of spice (I thought it would be spicier, tbh) and a tad too oily for my taste. There were also purely fat chunks which I avoided. The sticky rice was also hard to separate and felt old/stale, like they left it in open air for a few hours and neglected it. Overall, not impressed by the quality here. My friend got the COW SOY DUCK and didn't think it was worth 25 since the portions were small. The duck leg was pretty dry and her egg noodles were overcooked. I thought the curry was very coconut-y and flavorful. Other than that, I don't think it was worth what she paid for and using duck instead of chicken definitely upped the price by 5-7 dollars. During our visit, We were welcomed by the staff of the restaurant and I asked to use the restroom (which I recommend). The decorations of the walk to the restroom and inside of the restroom was very well arranged. Back to the food, we ordered the DELICIOUS Thai Chicken Satay to start things off. I ordered the crispy salmon salad & I got the "medium" spiciness for the level of hotness. The salmon and salad were of prepared well however way too spicy for me, keep in mind that I do eat spicy foods often but this was too much to eat enjoyably. The menu has changed, eliminating many previously interesting dishes. The spice (and flavor ) levels have plummeted. First and last visit. The place looks clean, the waiter was nice, served quickly. But I paid $30 with tip for a small bowl of curry chicken which was actually good ($7) and 2 duck rolls ($10) and a bowl of rice. The reason for 3 stars is that the so called duck rolls were two small rolls containing some dried out duck skins with fats from 2-3 days ago and no meat at all, wrapped in rice papers -a ripoff for $10 The 2nd reason is when I consulted the waiter on the menu, I have asked about duck as main course but he started to wiggle in his answers and smile apologetically, essentially suggesting that serving the duck is problematic and offered the rolls instead. His English was very poor so I didn't understand why, and went with those rolls. When I was finishing my lunch , an Asian client, who appeared to be a regular, has arrived and started to order a duck discussing with a waitress (in English)how they serve it- she offered either crispy duck or half a duck. This is how I discovered the duck is actually available!! Needless to say that I was really taken aback by this discrimination. My friend and I came in for an early dinner. We were greeted very warmly but the staff and sat down. The waitress explained how the menu worked and recommended some things we should order. I got a Thai ice tea and the crab fried rice while my fried got the pad sew ew. My crab fried rice was prob one of the best crab fried rice I've ever had! Seasoning was on point with tons of big chunks of crab :) so so delicious. My friend really enjoyed her pad sew ew as well. Very delicious and very authentic place! I first got takeout from here a few months ago, drunken noodles with beef, and it was AMAZING. the best I had maybe ever had. Perfect taste, tender beef. The last two times I've gotten this dish it has been way more bland, and today's order also smelled so burnt with lots of little pieces of burnt chunks making it taste burnt and entirely smokey--NOT good... and I'm not talking how sometimes the noodles will have a seared crisp, I'm talking truly burnt clumps. The beef was incredibly tough, hard, and chewy. No idea what happened, I was so excited to have found a closer Thai place I loved but I'm back on the hunt! read more

Excellent food and service. Started off with the Thai Fresh Roll and a Singha beer. They poured the beer into a frozen glass (love this). The Roll was delicious. Didn't taste as crabby as I was hoping. For the entree I did Ladd Na Moo Mug. Really enjoyed the flavors of this dish. Was piping hot. Went really well with that beer. My buddy got the fried scallops. I don't like scallops but thought these tasted pretty good. Not a fan of the texture. Elephant Jumps used to be our local Thai restaurant.  But, we haven't been back in years now.  The restaurant is convenient and there is lots of parking and it has a really good reputation (listed often in the Washingtonian.)  We ate there recently and had a nice dinner with friends but it seems we must not have ordered what others rave about.  It was ok and the service was good (although there was a mix up with our reservation.)  A lot of what we chose ended up being a little bland, surprisingly, because Thai food normally packs a lot of flavor and heat.  The papaya salad did have a pleasant kick but our chicken satay and chicken aroma coconut rice were a little disappointing being that they were pretty plain and non-descript.  The gang pah nuahh was the best dish of the evening.  It is one we would definitely order again.  On our next visit, I think we will have to do some research as to their most flavorful dishes since our own guesses mostly missed the mark. read more

They would ignore us or both come within minutes to ask the same question. Lots of takeout so there was a steady stream of people. Very busy. There were four tables. The ambiance was missing- all hard surfaces and noise bounces off. Dirty plates not cleared as we ate or even at the end after we paid the bill. All plastic plate and utensils were used. I had high expectations for Elephant Jumps as it was recommended by a friend. The fact that they are doing contact tracing and are using single use utensils and tablecloths, in addition to taking people's temperatures is definitely something to be commended. I think it's also great that they have lunch specials on the weekends. A rare gem! Food 4/5 - We ordered the No. 4 Panang Curry Chicken, No. 8 Pad See Ew Moo Mug and the Banana Blossom Salad. The Panang Curry Chicken was slightly dry and the Pad See Ew was a bit too sweet for my taste. I wish they had brought out the smokiness of the flavors. But the banana blossom salad was the highlight for me, tamer than a Laotian papaya salad but still retaining a bit of funk. Service 4/5 - The service was great as the waitstaff was courteous. I'm always down to try a new Thai restaurant. Thai food is my favorite and Elephant Jumps has been on my radar for a while. I finally decided to go with family and the food was awesome. They didn't have a working dishwasher the night we came so our orders were served on plastic plates with plastic utensils. However, everything still tasted great. I tried the Thai Iced Tea, Thai Dumpling, Golden Triangle, Tom Yum Goong, Crispy Tilapia with Crispy Basil Sautéed, Pad See Ew with Chicken, Krapow Prow with Beef, Fried Noodle with Brown Sauce and Chicken, and Mango Sticky Rice.   Everything we ordered was delicious. The standouts to me were the Tom Yum Goong, Crispy Tilapia with Crispy Basil Sautéed, and the Pad See Ew with Chicken.   The Tom Yum Goong had a nice balance of flavors and was perfect for a cold night. The Pad See Ew with Chicken was prepared well and had a good sauce and char on the chicken that made it above average compared to most other places I've ordered the dish from.   My favorite of the night was the Crispy Tilapia with Crispy Basil Sautéed. So so good. It had a nice crispy texture on the outside while being perfectly cooked and moist on the inside. The dish had so much flavor between the sweet brown sauce and spicy chili. And the dish was 17 dollars. I highly recommend the crispy tilapia if you come here. I can't wait to come back and order it again. read more

This place is probably one of the most COVID conscious places I've been in. With the tables social distanced, there is roughly 3 tables being served in the while restaurant. They take COVID seriously with temperature checks and listing down everyone's name and one person's phone number which is smart and safe. The staff was super friendly and super fast. I got the pad see eiw with chicken and it was flavorful. It did give a bit of a burnt taste which was unique and it was something that I didn't like. The portions were big and filled me up enough that I had to take the rest home. I would come back to try other things on the menu too. read more
