Very good Thai restaurant in Northampton. Since moving from Los Angeles, we've been trying different restaurants and this was one we found from Yelp. We drove to Northampton from Holyoke. Northampton is a nice little town with an excellent few blocks of retail and restaurants. It was buzzing the Friday night that we went there. We found street parking and walked to the restaurant. It's a small-ish restaurant (probably holds 40 people). We got a table in the back as soon as we walked in. We ordered the Chicken Satay and Pad Thai with chicken. Both dishes were very good. The portions were slightly smaller than in LA, but with less competition, we've found the restaurants in and around Holyoke, Springfield, etc. give slightly smaller portions and slightly higher prices than in LA (so Thai Garden is no different than the rest of the Asian restaurants we tried). The Pad Thai had a more subtle taste than what we were accustomed to, but it was very good. We spent about $20+ for the two dishes including tip. We'll definitely be back! (Please see my pictures). Everything was mediocre. Tum Yum was bland with few mushroom slices floating sadly. Crab ragoon was just okay. The portion was really small given the price. Massaman curry was more like a lunch special rather than dinner. Service was soso. Thai Garden is my go to for Thai food. The staff is friendly and courteous. I love the crab Rangoon and crispy Thai spring rolls. Our favorite dishes are the Thai Mellon curry with chicken, and Three Buddies. We've been going here for years and their service has continued to be fantastic, even during Covid. Fresh and delicious curry! Went for lunch and it's wicked good deal with smaller portions than dinner but still sooooo much food! Avocado curry was so good, sweet and Rich flavors and the added peanuts always a nice touch in a curry! Absolutely appalled at the food and service received. I am pregnant and get very sick from certain foods, so I called and specified NO tofu, eggs, fish sauce, or peanuts. My husband and I drove over one hour (30 mins each way) for a to-go order, based on our previous positive experience here. Boy were we wrong. The "fresh rolls" say they have steamed shrimp on their menu, but in fact, it is old dry tofu. I bit into one and immediately threw up. There were also VERY old veggies in there- see my images. The veggie pad thai was so overcooked the noodles were literally one clump, veggies so overcooked it was inedible. My husband's crispy chicken pad thai was the same with the noodles, and the chicken was so over fried it was actually black. I couldn't even bite through it. Because they falsely advertised and made me sick, my husband called and politely asked for a refund. To his dismay, he was yelled at and told to "call back in February because the owner is on vacation and there's nothing they can do about it." I'd like everyone to know of not only their horrible, horrible food, but also the way they treat their customers when THEY screw something up. Tere is absolutely no way I will ever return here. Thai Garden is a great option for comfort food in Northampton. I usually get their golden triangles, chicken pad thai, peanut sauce, and Thai iced tea. I like to dip the golden triangles into the peanut sauce rather than use the orange sauce that is usually served with it. I also add a bit of peanut sauce to the pad Thai because the noodles can be a little dry compared to other places. When I go to their competitor, Siam Square, I usually get the same thing except for the golden triangles. Even though Siam Square tends to be a little cheaper, I like to go to Thai Garden because the food seems less oily to me. Also, the green curry is MUCH MUCH better at Thai garden (and also not a rip off - see my review for Siam Square). The service at Thai Garden is hit or miss, but I usually just pick up the food to go so I don't often interact with the staff except when picking up my food. I ate there yesterday during lunch and the service was great. I didn't realize that they also give you a small portion of chicken noodle soup with your order. However, when I've been there during peak times during dinner, the service was just okay. The food is great compared to the other options around here. But I only give it 4 stars because I can't help but compare it to the standard Thai food in larger cities. Otherwise, I'd give it 5 stars. read more

This was one of the best Thai meals I have ever had. There were nine of us and we tried a good number of dishes. Everything we had was flavorful and delicious. The portions were also good. I highly recommend the money bags appetizer, the green papaya salad, the crispy pad thai, the mango fried rice, their red curry with scallops, and the drunken mussels if you like a spicy kick. Service was quick and friendly even though it was a full restaurant at dinnertime and we were a large group. Parking can be a bit hairy but the food is worth it! read more

Super disappointed in our order, ordered curry and received no white rice. When we called to remedy it they refused to acknowledge they forgot it saying they didn't give rice with curry. We have ordered before and there has always been rice. Even if they changed the way they do things they did not tell us when we ordered. Will be going to Shallot exclusively from now on. read more

Basil rice is where it's at. I've moved beyond pad Thai, drunken noodles and red curry as of late. Basel rice is now what I typically order at Thai restaurants and Thai Garden's version is very good. I liked the fact that the chicken was cut up into small pieces. The restaurant has a very nice interior which is somewhat dimly lit. If you don't mind being a little cramped, the two booths near the front two windows are great. Prices are reasonable. I would definitely return again. Hong nam is clean! Stopped by for dinner. Attractive, cozy location with annoying Muzak in the background. Ordered a chicken and noodle dish. Chicken shreds were too dry to gum down. Also ordered a chicken w chili and basil sauce. Again, dried out chicken but this time with boring, tasteless, chili sauce. To top it off, the beer was warm. To their credit, waitress tried to make it up to me by offering a redo. I declined since even tender, not dry chicken would not make up for an uninspired recipe in the kitchen. Amazing ambience and the food was great! I accidentally left my pad thai in a take-out box and came back around 10 minutes later to find that they had kept it in the back after having cleared the table. Also quick to respond to emails. Would definitely recommend. read more

I got the Drunken Noodle and judging from the quality alone, the dish had a creative array of chopped vegetables and a vividly gorgeous presentation. The flavor, however, was rather subtle and bland, much to my disappointment. It was good, just not my idea of THAI good where there's larger explosion of spice and seasoning. My friend got the Spicy Basil Eggplant and that had more flavor, but not by a long shot. I'm used to Thai flavor that is simply overwhelming where you need to take your time with, eat parts of it with rice, and pack part of it to go. The food and the overall decor was good, and the service, average. Does this place stand over the top and dazzle me to remember it as a special place? No. HOWEVER, the Spicy Basil Eggplant had a cool looking mushroom that is uncanny to the Super Mario Bros. red mushroom! Spots and everything! So that, is quite memorable. Came back again for a lunch on a way back from VT and was reminded why I really loved this place. Huge portions, reasonable prices, quick service and, of course, delicious food. The noodle soup that they brought out had been improved -- everyone in our lunch party scarfed it down. I enjoyed the Chicken Tom Yum soup. The short story: everything tastes great, terrific decor. I had a great time at Thai Garden on my first visit. Planning to go back soon. We got pad thai, edamame, thai iced teas and another entree I can't recall the name of, and everything tasted really good. The pad thai tasted exactly as it should, in my opinion. The iced teas in particular were very tasty and I can't wait for another one. The space was really lovely. Lots of pleasant golden lighting and decorative touches to appreciate. This is our favorite Thai restaurant. Delicious every time. We drive from Springfield just for some Drunken Noodles and Khao Soi. I highly recommend Thai Garden. I love this place! I come to Northampton especially to come here for the Thai food. The prices are generally about the same as other Thai places, but the difference is that this place is totally worth it. The interior is really nice and you could come here casually with friends or with a date. I ordered the pad thai and the green curry when I come here. The food comes out quickly and hot. The flavor of the pad thai is intense and the noodles are almost always cooked perfect. The noodles aernt too limp and aernt undercooked. The flavor of the curry is amazing. I only ever get takeout so I can't comment on the restaurant experience. Everything I've ever ordered from here has been delicious and perfect. We usually get yellow curry, pad Thai, or drunken noodles, often with the Thai iced tea. Always eat until we're stuffed, it's so good. Bomb snacks! Scrumptious Pad Thai and red curry. Getting a side of peanut sauce is a must for the pad Thai, that gold hightens the noods 100%. I am re-reviewing this place. Hubby and I were there for lunch today. We arrived about 1:30ish, (because we know they close at 3 and reopen for dinner). While the food is still good, I felt like we were in their way. And this is not the first time this has happened. They were setting the tables all around us with the dinner tablecloth and nice dishes and leaving the setting for our table on the table right next to ours. Took a long time to refill our waters or to ask if everything was ok, even though their butts were right at us while they were working. Just didn't make us feel welcome. Don't tell the people at Fitz Willy's...I think I've found my new "go to" place in Northampton! Not that there is any comparison really because the two places differ vastly, but I was impressed with every aspect of my experience at Thai Garden and I plan to return even though I only pass through town a few times per year. Here's my run-down: Ambiance was tasteful and comfortable. I thought the restaurant balanced traditional Thai elements with nondescript American simplicity very nicely. The tables are close together, but the restaurant was not crowded when we had lunch there so I did not feel like other patrons were looming over us or hovering near, eavesdropping on our conversation. Service was nearly perfect. The waitress came to our table quickly, so I wasn't even ready but she returned promptly and everything arrived in a timely manner. Our water was refilled and the table was bussed effectively. The servers were present but not over bearing in the least. I really appreciated their subtle approach to service. Food was excellent, of course, since I'm awarding it five stars. We tried the money bags appetizer which looked cute when it arrived and tasted delicious. The dough was crisp and lightly flaky. It had corn in it which added a hint of sweetness, in addition to the dipping sauce that they provided. My boyfriend had the Pad Thai with crunchy noodles. I thought that the flavor was wonderful but I didn't care for the texture of the noodles. I like my noodles soft, not crunchy, though this dish was not my selection so I can't deduct any stars based on that experience. I had the Choo chee curry with chicken which was delectable. It had pineapple, tomato, bell peppers, peas, snap peas, carrots, and basil in a coconut curry sauce which was among the best curry I've ever tasted. It was served with a generous portion of jasmine rice as well. Side note: Do not fear their spice ratings listed on the menu. This dish had two peppers, indicating it was medium heat spicy. It was actually more mild than I had anticipated. It had a kick but was mainly flavor with a touch of appropriate heat, rather than being a five alarm fire in my mouth. Prices were good. It was around $35 for two entrees, an appetizer, and two Thai ice teas (which were a little small but acceptable). Many of the noodle dishes and curries are priced around $8. The crunchy noodle Pad Thai was around $12 (another reason not to order it, when my $8 meal was far superior in my opinion). The meals also came with a little cup of soup which was an unexpected, nice touch. It had rice noodles and some mystery meat so it's probably not an option for vegetarians. I apologize in advance for anyone whom I may offend by this three (3) star rating, but it is more like a 3.5 in my book, rounded down. I have been craving thai food for at least four (4) months; and since we moved to New England, all anyone has been talking about is the "Thai Garden-in Northampton" and how celestial it is. I believe that the hype and expectations grew so large that we set ourselves up for an average course. This was my first time to Northampton and I loved the location of the diner (on the strip!). The service was good, the prices were okay (for the portion sizes) and the drunken noodles were okay (which I got). I was hopeful for larger and / or more spring rolls, but we only got three (3) small ones for five (5) dollars! Now, I did very much enjoy the Pad Thai, it was the best so far out of the few thai restaurants I've been to. But, maybe my next experience will take the rating to a four (4). Anyone have any suggestions from the menu? Maybe the yellow curry will take it to a five (5), who knows. read more
