Steam Rice With Grilled Beef Short Rib ( ), Kuyteav Phnom Penh ( )

Delicious, cozy, very filling, great deal. I keep coming back here for the spring rolls, Kuyteav Phnom Penh, and recently tried the steamed rice with grilled beef... so delicious with the egg.

Happy to have this wholesome and delicious restaurant a few steps away from our home. How lucky can you get? Our first trip out to "Soup Noodle Bowl" was tonight and it won't be our last. Excellent service. We were brought a very nice pot of hot tea on this cool evening, one of the last nights of winter. The staff served us table side with tofu spring rolls, a noodle dish for my wife and a yummy kuy teav beef similar to phó for me. It was so goooood :-) Thank You Soup Noodle Bowl for making your new home in our neighborhood. We are looking forward to getting to know you. Cheers - S and J

This restaurant used to be excellent and went from 5 stars to 2 when ownership changed. So disappointing!

Incredibly good and reasonably priced. People working there are super nice, I can tell the chef is proud of his food and he should be!

Great change from Thai or Vietnamese. Really enjoy the family business atmosphere. The food's great and the prices are too.

Still thinking about the pad see ew and the cabbage salad. Oh, the milk bread! It came with a decadent (caramelized onion?) butter that I would've tossed pasta in at home, heavenly. Like eggplant? Not because of glitz, the restaurant is in an old mill building and the interior and furniture rough, but because the staff was welcoming, caring and clearly well trained and the food was wonderful. The appetizer we had was simply slice tomatoes with dressing. The tomatoes were fresh and flavorful as if just picked and ripened and the oil based dressing was light and full flavored while still letting the tomatoes fresh taste come through. My entree was a unique blend of shrimp, ground and minced pork, cellophane noodles and vegetables in a well spiced sauce that was surprisingly amazing. A simple dinner for two with an appetizer split between us and two entrees and a mixed drink and two non-alcoholic beers came to $96 without tip and was worth every penny. But the real topper was the individual who waited on us. Her smile and service made the night. Thanks so much.

Turns out, that was a very apt description. We arrived and got seated at a table with a very nice curved window view. I can imagine being here on a rainy or snowy day and getting to be surrounded by the weather while not having to get wet. The service was friendly, if mostly absent, and fast. This place mostly loses stars on the food. We had: wonton soup, miso soup, scallion pancakes, crab rangoons, happy family, tangerine chicken, and asparagus and snap peas with shrimp. The wonton soup seemed to be a beef broth soup, interesting change up from any wonton soup I've had before, a little salty and good wontons. The miso soup was also a good miso. The crab rangoons were too sweet and the wrapper too thick, thus making it chewy, but at least you could tell there was something in there beyond just cream cheese. The hunt for good crab rangoons continues. The scallion pancakes were very thick, but at least not greasy. The sauce was punchy and pleasant. The asparagus and snap peas with shrimp was positioned as having a light flavor, and that was very accurate. Almost like they were steamed and then served, but you could see a sauce coating them. The happy family was coated in a brown sauce that didn't carry much flavor either, but nothing was wrong either. The tangerine chicken was listed as one spicy out of three, and I'm happy to report they understand spicy rating. While the broccoli was chopped a tad large, the chicken was cooked very well, and you got just some spice on the back end with sweet on the front. Overall, nothing here was bad, but it also came across and middling. If you asked me to write this review a couple days from now I feel I'd have trouble remembering anything about this place except the window seat. I am willing to try some of the other aspects of the menu some time in the future, but I'm not sending anyone running here either.

I got the Cannon ball roll which had shrimp tempura, a garlic aioli, and topped with a nice chunk of beautifully seared steak. I loved that roll - super delish! For $20 it was kinda steep so it definitely helps that the roll was tasty. I also got a salmon skin roll which had crushed up salmon skin in the roll... unique as I'm used to a rolled up fried salmon skin. My fiancé got the Mt Holyoke roll and enjoyed it as well. The specialty rolls were definitely massive. My only disappointment was the duck bao, which had shredded duck in five spice. I was hoping for the more traditional peking duck style bao. My bao also had some furry bits stuck to the end, not sure if it was lint from somewhere but it looked like dog hair. It was pretty baked into there. I didn't mind too much I just ripped that piece off. Too hungry to care, but that knocked a star off the review. Would potentially try the ramen if we come back.

They do have a menu - takeout or dine in (few tables but the space is small) and they also have cafeteria style prepared foods that you can peruse. Located on Reservoir near the Cranston line, there is a small parking lot next to the storefront and some street parking as well. I called in an order for Chicken Mee Ka Tang (Cantonese Noodles), Beef Pho, Cold Cut banh mi, Lort (Cambodian eggrolls) and a Vietnamese coffee for the mister. When we got there I was enticed by the offerings and got a small container of the braised pork and eggs and stuffed bitter melon (don't knock it people, it is an acquired taste, lol). We really enjoyed everything we had but our faves were the banh mi (great flavor and didn't skimp on the meats at all!) and the Mee Ka Tang - it did have a bit more gravy than I'm used to but really great flavors - add a little bit of chili oil or sriracha and chefs kiss! The pork and eggs were a tad bit too sweet and pork was tougher than I'd like other than that, everything was delicious. Service was super quick and food was ready as promised. We didn't have to wait for it at all which I can appreciate! Looking forward to returning to this mom and pop shop!! Can't wait to come back!

Neither was the best I've ever had, but both were definitely good and I'd probably order them again. They also have a steam table with some of the food already prepared when you walk in. Overall, I'm glad I gave this place a try. The food was decent, but I think I'll stick with the loc lac and banh mi if I come back.
