I don't get massages very often. On a whim yesterday, I decided to call to make an appointment to come in after work. I've had a sore stiff neck for about two weeks now, and this was a necessity to me. My neighbor, Sandra, also recommended her to me. I walked in, and I was ushered into a room. I told Joy what was bothering me, and she went to work. She asked my preference, and I told her that I didn't like massages that were too deep. And so she lightened up a little bit, but not too much that it didn't feel like a good massage. It was perfect. Then she mentioned that she'd bring hot stones, and I was like...oh boy. I had never had a hot stone massage before, but man it changed my life. The hot stones helped my aching neck as well as other parts of my body that I had no idea were tense. I enjoyed every minute. It was worth every dollar I spent. Joy was brilliant and she was in tune with my muscles and what they needed in terms of massage treatment. I have had some knots and pain in my back for almost a month so I decided to go to Thai Healing Hands Spa and give it a try. It was perfect! Just what I needed. Joy was my massage therapist and she was very good. I told her about the knots in my back and she told me she was going to take care of it.. and she did indeed! Strange experience. I was desperate for a massage, horrible aching back and shoulders. It was really, really hot and steamy inside and very dark. The woman who was giving me the massage must have weighed 80 pounds but could probably lift 600 pounds, she was so strong. It was just about unbearable, I told her it was too much but she told me that I was too tight, it would hurt now but feel good later. Not really so. Between the heat and her hurting me I was dizzy, but not relaxed. She spoke with her co-worker through the closed door in another language while hurting-I mean massaging me. She actually opened the door when the phone rang and then answered it a few times. In the middle of the massage she left...someone new came in who kept telling me that my shoulders were too tight "beautiful girl". She is the reason they get three stars. I like anyone who calls me beautiful:):) Woman number two actually got up on the table to massage me and did some other strange things that I hadn't ever felt before. Not creepy, just different. After the hour massage I decided to sit in the steam room for 15 minutes and when I stepped out there was a towel and a bottled water waiting for me. Worst massage I've ever had. She didn't speak English, except for a few sentences such as "You like strong? Or soft?" I assumed this was all we needed to communicate, but apparently "strong" translated into "tiny little butterflies dancing on my back". I kept asking her to go "stronger" and she would for about 15 seconds, then stop. I would've gotten a better massage by rubbing my own back against a door frame. Worst $65 I've ever spent (other than overdraft fees). I gave 3 stars because my boyfriend got an OK one, and I had one a year ago which was OK. Just avoid the one that doesn't speak English. I have been seeing the owner since 2007..8 years. She is the absolute best. She is a third generation massage therapist and healer and was born doing this. Her father was a doctor and as a small child (age 6) she would go with her father to the patients' homes. Her father let her practice massage therapy and she told me once that "ever since I was 6, when I treated one of my father's patients...I always knew this is what I wanted to be". The masseuses are excellent--very good at various types of massage (I usually get a mix of swedish and thai) and quite nice. I'm really enthusiastic about this place because it's helped me tremendously with the recovery of my frozen shoulder after acupuncture, expensive massages at salons in Boston, and MGH's orthopedic group all failed. This one is right opposite Thomas Crane Library in Quincy. Arrived at the scheduled time. They take credit cards and no surcharge for that. Medium-Strong one...my muscles were so sore, i think they needed that pain (with the strong massage it hurt a little bit now and then, not all the time).
