I've been wanting to try Thai Orchid for a while now. Anytime I ask someone for Thai food recommendations in Vancouver this place is always brought up! Not just for Thai, but for sushi as well. So it was finally time to dive into our list of recommendations and hit up TO! The space is set up nicely, decor and ambience is definitely there. 4/5 for ambience. Service was a bit slow though, they had my server running between a big party in the back and us in the front. We ended up asking different runners/bussers for things and they got our server for us every time. 2/5 for service. Now onto the good part! Tom Kha Soup 3/5 - 5 spice (spiciest option) which came out pretty quickly. We ordered the rest of our dishes based off the spice of the soup. Soup was not spicy, maybe the tiniest little kick. Definitely felt like a 1 so we ordered the rest of our dishes in a 5 as well. Soup was pretty standard, good flavor. Shrimp were big and bouncy, mussels were plump, squid and scallops were tender. Peek Gai Tod 1/5 - Thai style chicken wings tossed in spicy basil sauce. Chicken was cooked fine but the sauce was utterly disappointing. It looked so sticky and promising but ultimately tasted like unseasoned chicken. There was no indication that this was a spicy basil sauce whatsoever. I even asked my fiancé multiple times what the sauce was supposed to be since he chose this dish but he couldn't tell me either. Pad Ga Prow 2/5 - This is our all time favorite Thai dish so we HAVE to get it whenever we get Thai! This one was a bit disappointing. First off, the color was way off, this was so light! Definitely didn't have that yummy wok charred flavor. Spice isn't consistent here, a 5 on this dish was extreme. I'm a ghost pepper salsa kinda gal but this went past that. Felt like a 7/5 in spice. Gaeng Ped Dang 2/5 - Thai red curry with chicken, eggplant, bell peppers, and bamboo shoots. Ordered a 5 spice on Thai dish and it came out more like a 2. Curry flavor was good, vegetables were way overcooked and pretty mush. I'm not even sure what the spice scale is anymore at this point. Crab Fried Rice 1/5 - There was peas and carrots in the fried rice.. peas and carrots do not belong in fried rice, especially Thai fried rice. Rice was mushy, and crab was disappointing. It was literally so shredded and sewn into the dish that you couldn't really tell if there was crab or not. For $25 give me some actual crab pieces. Fried rice is literally the highest profit margin food on a menu. Spice on this felt like a 3. Thai Tea 4/5 - Wasn't too sweet, best thing I had the entire meal. We probably won't be back. I rate this a very low 2 or a very high 1. read more

Thai Orchid has food that is not only delicious but beautiful to look at. I was with company that may have thought it odd if I took pictures of my food so I have no pictures this time but there definitely will be a next time. The flavors of my mango paradise were well crafted with a little sweet and just the right spiciness. (Choose your heat carefully) Medium was good for me but too spicy for the husband. It had nice size chunks of mango and a good portion of chicken. The crab puff were some of the best around! Ambiance was great. Price just right. Parking easy to find. I should've known better to get takeout here. I've had decent meals in the restaurant, though it's been a couple years. We wanted to relax at home so ordered takeout. My daughter wanted the vegetarian larb, which is harder to find than you might think because restaurants use fish sauce in larb. I think she liked it. The rest of the food was so-so. Their rice (and some other dishes) come sealed in plastic containers, not traditional paper take-out containers. Perhaps it is to keep them fresh for travel, but I wondered how long they'd been wrapped up before we ordered. And we didn't connect the orange sauce (in small unmarked plastic) with the orange chicken until some guests had eaten half the chicken. (Not their fault, but a hint would be in order in case the person who serves is not the same person who ordered.) It is likely the most expensive Thai take-out so I expected better. Silly, right? The Pad Se Ew was free of overwhelming flavor. I don't like that everything came in plastic containers. We're working to get away from plastics. There are other good places (Thai Little Home and Thai Wok) to go for takeout that make flavorful dishes. I'll stick with my past-proven favorites. read more

I don't review places unless they suck or they are amazing... this is the first of the two. I'm a huge pad kee mao fan and if you are too, don't get this, the only difference it has between the pad see eew and this is basil. The pad kee mao has no tomato, no bell pepper, no mushrooms, no veggies aside from broccoli. Also, don't get the beef, it's one stop short of jerky, the chicken was much softer. Pad see eew was quite bland, even for what it is. Pad kee mao had some flavor but lacked quite a bit even aside from the lack of regular ingredients. We had a group and everyone's meal was very lackluster aside from the mango paradise and the calamari which was very good! I have had the sushi here in the past and found it very good, so really just don't go with any noodle dishes. Thai tea is standard, which is good, same with the Thai coffee. Service was good though, but the place has always been loud. I've had my fair share of Thai places in the area and lived here most my life, go here for sushi or the calamari, nothing else. read more

Hadn't been to Thai Orchid in years but decided to stop in for a dinner with friends. We arrived at about 4:30pm on a Friday without reservations and were seated immediately. Service was friendly and prompt through the entire meal. Started with an Asian Pear Mojito-sweet but yummy! Next was the cucumber salad and this was probably my favorite of the whole meal. It was crisp and had good flavor. Would definitely get this again. Next ordered a spicy salmon hand roll and salmon nigiri. Both were just ok. I've had higher quality tasting salmon at other restaurants but was at least fresh tasting. For dessert I finished with the mango sticky rice and this was yummy! The mango was very fresh. i really liked my experience here! the parking lot was full but we managed to get street parking further down. there were a ton of people in the entryway, but i guess most of them were waiting for their online orders because we got seated within 3 minutes. the ambiance is laid back and chill with there being a bar area and a vast drink menu. they also have a happy hour which i need to check out next time. their menu has a ton of options, so it took us a while to decide, but we got a mix of thai food and sushi. i also got a spiked thai tea which was soooo delicious. the pad see ew threw me off a bit because ive never seen it served with cilantro, though it was very tasty and had a generous amount of chicken, which i really enjoyed. the chicken satay was already delicious alone, but it also came with a peanut sauce and pickles on the side which went well together. the rainbow roll was a little bigger than a standard sushi roll and also very tasty. read more

I stopped in for lunch today. We have a Thai orchid in Portland that I love. I thought this would be the same. It wasn't. The staff was excellent. Very friendly very welcoming. I ordered the pad Thai with a side of jasmine rice. The rice was good, but the pad Thai could've been much better. It had a weird tasting sauce to it that I wasn't used to for pad Thai. The noodles weren't pad Thai noodles they were more like Angel hair pasta. I could've dealt with all that as flavor pallets differ from person to person, but the crushed peanuts they came with it were stale. That ruins the meal. I don't live in the Vancouver area so my return will not come. There is definitely not a destination restaurant. read more

We all very-much enjoyed our dinner here! Our daughter joined us on this jaunt to the Pacific Northwest, and as soon as we landed in Portland (around dinner time), my wife did a google search. She was on a quest for good Asian food. As it turns out, THAI ORCHID popped up, we all came to an agreement to give it a go, and we were on our way to the state of Washington. When asked, our server pointed out a number of suggestions that she thought were house specialities. The Red Pumpkin Curry had stood out as an intriguing possibilty, prior to our asking our server, so when she mentioned it, "it was a go"! The dish indeed was a hit as all of us enjoyed the flavors and textures that soon arrived. Not a single grain of rice was left by meal's end. Three of the sushi offerings were also brought to our table and all were pretty good. Not to complain, but...the spicy tuna roll could have had a little more heat to it. But again, overall, all of our rolled seaweed and rice (aka: Maki) selections were well done and quite satisfying . Our server was very conscientious and caring. She checked in on us often and had a very pleasant demeanor. Finally, the iced tea that my wife ordered (*just the regular tea that you get if you ask for an iced tea) stood out as one of the restaurant's pleasant mini-surprises as It has hints of vanilla and went down so-so smooth! My beverage choice was a hazy IPA that also was super satisfying. I think it had a high alcohol content as I was a little tipsy by the time the bill came. This was my first time dining here and it was delicious! We came in on a Wednesday night and were able to be seated right away. We ordered a beer and a lychee mojito. The mojito was really good! I've never been to a Thai restaurant that served a half filled container. Not only was it practically just sauce, but it didn't come with any rice to eat it with. That's another $15 apparently. If we wanted soup we would have ordered it. The other entree - lemongrass chicken was okay. Honestly didn't taste fresh, and a bit too salty. The Thai Food here is among the best between Vancouver and Portland. This is surprisingly considering they provide some fusion options and also tried Sushi. I'm not brave enough to try Sushi from a restaurant that doesn't just specialize in it, but if you're looking for a good Thai Food experience, this is the place. It's a casual restaurant and bar, and the decor provides a pretty chill vibe. There is plenty of seating inside, but it can still get busy and parking can sometimes be difficult. The service provided can be a bit slow, and they messed up one of our orders, however they were quick to fix it. My favorite items are their curries and their orange chicken ( surprisingly ). Their stir fried noodles are often broken and not really stir fried well, so I don't recommend it if you are appreciating noodles more than flavor. But the flavors are definitely on point. Pricing is a bit higher than other locations nearby, but being downtown and being so popular they get away with it. Definitely recommend to try at least once if you're from the area. If you're touring though, not worth taking up the limited time you have. read more

The interior is quite spacious, and theres plenty of natural light as well which I liked. We decided to get the lettuce wraps with tofu, and the pad kee mao with chicken. Both dishes were so good!! The lettuce wraps were diy, and the tofu was stir fried with plenty of veggies such as carrots, mushrooms, even water chestnuts! The sauce was so good with it. I also loved the pad kee mao, which came with plenty of veggies as well and was so flavorful. Portions were good, service was friendly, and it was overall a great experience. Very nice spot in Vancouver. Very rarely do I feel that a place can do two cuisines well, but this place pulls off some legit Thai and Japanese. Good lunch menu, smaller portions for less, which is awesome. Got some level 5 (Thai Hot) Tom Yum and salmon roe nigiri. Off combo, but worked for me. Around 20$. Service is fast and they check back in often. Parking can be a challenge in this area a peak lunch hour, so I'd try and come a little early or late, as the business crowd is big. read more

The flavor was rich and balanced, without that overly sweet ketchup taste or artificial pink color you sometimes find at other spots. What really caught my attention was the packaging, it came sealed like a bubble tea cup, which was a first for me. My family has been coming here for almost 10 years and I am always impressed. I am a huge fan of their soups, the Gaeng Ga Ree (yellow curry) has been my sister's favorite since she was a kid and my fiancé's favorite is their Khao Pad Ga Prow (spicy basil fried rice). My all time favorite has got to be their Thai Noodle Soup - it is PERFECT for a cold rainy day, or literally any day of the year. The portions are large and usually end up with leftovers which are just as good at home. The sushi is high quality as well, at reasonable prices, and depending on where you sit you can watch the Sushi Chef. The ambiance is chic, with a woodsy industrial vibe and the servers are friendly. Also, the Thai tea is so authentic, I get it when I've got a sweet tooth! My family and I will continue to come here for many more years and I always make it a mission to visit when I'm in Vancouver. read more
