This was a completely different experience than the first time we went here. The spring rolls were frozen...not even remotely warm. The first order of chicken satay was great - the second was extremely small pieces of chicken. The fries were soggy and for the price - insane. The breading on the popcorn chicken was very thick so you got more breading and a tiny amount of chicken. The service was great - there were only two other tables with people. The restaurant was clean, nice bathrooms, and the music was great. This was a big let down...I'm not sure we will be going here again...there are better Thai restaurants in Fargo. read more

I seldom give five stars, but this place may deserve it. I went there with my sister and we had the most pleasant meal. Both of us agreed it was tasty, and the portion size was just right. We were there at the end of the noon service and the owner took time to visit with us. She is a most fascinating lady named Anne. She grew up in Bangkok, but got her B.A., masters and PhD in Australia. She comes from a long line of restauranteurs. One of my favorite Thai dishes is green curry, which I have had several times, and I can say hers was one of the best. We both plan to return when we're in Fargo in the future. read more

Friends and I went there late on a Saturday, the main building was closed but the drive thru was open. The ladies in the building kindly let us know that the drive thru was open so we went there and we ordered. They handed us a menu and gave us some time to decide what we wanted. After a while one of the ladies gave us advice on what to order and she went in detail on what customers typically liked and what she liked. After 15 mins we decided and she swiftly made our food(within 10 mins). Once we started eating, we realized that everything was delicious, we got the Panang, Rama Thai, and creamy noodle and they were all delicious! The portions are good, flavor is there, and customer service is great! We didn't get to sit in the restaurant but from what we saw it looked authentic and the ambiance seemed lax and very warm! 10/10 would recommend! read more

Second time in, first one week earlier. Had same exact order, minus the desert (fund raiser for Myanmar) and take home order of rice. Great great grandmas spring rolls rule! I will probably order them every time. But got to peruse the menu (forgot my books at home) and saw some things I would like to try, though it is hard to top the Devil Prince (or whatever it is called) fried rice. I got it at level 10 hotness and it was just right. Owners once again very cordial and accommodating and I was able to update her and her husband on the fate of the local hospital he was birthed in (St. Johns: demolished. Risen from the ashes: the new Prairie St. Johns addiction/mental health focused facility. Same location, only a tad closer to river). It was delicious! We had the mini eggrolls (housemade), the drunken noodles, the curry, and a mango cheesecake. All were exceptional! There are several Thai restaurants in the FM area, but none that compare to the warm, friendly, authentically delicious Thai orchid! After a trip or two, you'll see that they are consistent and you get to talk to the owner when she stops by your table to check in. Anne is a treat, and will quickly make you feel like family. Each of us has our preference but I'm a giant fan of the green yellow and panang curries, while the drunken noodles and spicy basil get high praise from others in my family. Thai Orchid is a gem of a place! The restaurant is immaculately clean and has a modern design with a warm and welcoming feeling inside. Plenty of parking in the front and on the side. The owner and her sister are incredibly friendly and helpful and always make food recommendations and come out frequently to greet and speak to their guests. The food is top notch authentic Thai cuisine and everything here is fresh and handmade. Nothing is frozen from other suppliers. Much of their recipes come from their own family who are all Thai. Ann and Name are such kind, generous, personable, and friendly people and their kitchen and serving staff are too! Thai Orchid has been in business for over 9 years and they will continue making the best darn food in all of Fargo/Moorhead. And their wall of awards proves just that. They've won the InForum BEST ETHNIC CUSINE in Red River Valley in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. I've also heard that they are receiving another prestigious award in 2023! I was looking for some good Thai food in the local area, and this restaurant is a total home run. We ordered the mini spring rolls as an appetizer, but since it was our first time eating here, they also brought us a complementary order of Tony. The spring rolls were perfectly balanced and the sauce was delightful. All of the flavors blended really beautifully, and there was a perfect proportion of meat to vegetables. Absolutely perfect. The Tony is perhaps best described as a sort of Thai chips and salsa. It was perfect for just some munching, and the peanut sauce was sweet, savory, thick and delicious. I'm so honored they brought it out to us, and I KNOW I'll be ordering it again the next time I make it out there. My dad had the spicy basil with beef. He had it on spice level 4. They offer a spice level of 1-10, and they don't recommend going above a 3, but they will always add more chilis if you'd like. Dad had considered doing a 5, but he found that the 4 was hot, and anything more would have detracted from the flavors (in his opinion). Mom had the bean sprouts, no spice added. She found that it was boring, which the waitress had warned her, but she still found it okay. I had the fried sesame oil and black pepper with chicken, which was really good. Mom thinks when she comes back that she'll get this one but without any chilis added. I think when I come back, I'll either get it at 3 again or drop down to a 2 if I want a more mild heat. Either way, I can say with confidence that we WILL be back, and this restaurant had fantastic food and a kind staff. We went on a Monday evening, and there was no trouble with anything, except the current construction going on at the Mall--but that is no reason I wouldn't return. Truly fantastic food. read more

This is our favorite Thai in town and one of our favorite restaurants. And it's not just the food that is good. The owners are amazing. They recognize us and remember how we like our food. They are such gracious hosts it's like being a guest in their home. The food is fresh and the flavors are well balanced. I like things spicy and they get the spice level just right for me. And I'm not shy taking other people there because I know they can also make things midwestern mild. My favorites are the panang curry and drunken noodle. I like both with fried tofu. read more

I absolutely love how tangy their sweet and sour sauce is that is served with the cream cheese wontons. I've seen a few bad reviews regarding this, and I have to say, it contrasts the sweet, creamy flavor of the wontons perfectly and really sets Thai Orchid apart from other Thai restaurants because of this alone. As far as the pad Thai goes, I'm a big fan of this as well, although their consistency could use some work. This is an absolute gem of a restaurant. It's a very laid back atmosphere and it is obvious that the staff cares about their customers. Was very pleased with the overall experience, and this was before I got the food! I almost don't want to say what my favorite part was because I don't want to downplay the rest. But here it is. It's the complimentary wonton crisps with the peanut sauce. Such a lovely surprise and amazingly delicious. I had the fresh rolls and they came with two sauces but I used my remaining peanut sauce from the crisps. I could easily eat a bowl of it! Had the coconut soup with chicken in the hot pot. Another town another Thai restaurant. This one did not disappoint. We started with the spring roll. Tasty. Velvet had the Thai Garden medium spice. Vegies we're cooked correctly. The sauce was light, spicy and a perfect compliment to the vegies. I had the Spicy Basil with chicken. Fresh peppers and onions in a spicy red sauce. Excellent flavors. The service was Thai normal. Place was fairly deserted for a Saturday night and we were seated promptly. Started off with some fresh spring rolls. The sauce was pretty awesome. Pad Thai and Panang Curry were our choices for the main dish. Pad Thai was well cooked and good flavor. Panang curry, while a bit too runny, had good flavor. I should have probably asked to have the curry extra spicy, since it was a bit too bland for my taste. Overall a good experience. read more

Ordered the laab gai and spring rolls with shrimp and the Thai beef jerky... The laab gai was in a cup and a fairly wet kind of unusual for this dish... I could not distinguish the toasted rice flour to save my life. Although it was pretty tasty with plenty of fish sauce and heat. Such high hopes, such a bad experience. Great service, though!! The quality and taste of our meal, disappointing to say the least. The rice noodles were over cooked and nearly mush, which also matched the consistency of the vegetables in the dish. Worst drunken noodle dish I've ever had. I want Thai Orchid to be successful- so will give them another chance as others have had outstanding meals....perhaps we just hit them on a bad day.......fingers crossed. read more
