Unfortunately this place isn't what it used to be. The quality has dropped significantly which is a real shame. I paid for extra beef with my dish but got mostly vegetables anyway. The beef that was made was flavorless and bland. Also, most of the vegetables were uncooked like they were chopped up and placed on top of the dish raw. I wanted to like this place more than I did. The friendly bartender at the The R Bar and Lounge next door told me it was his favorite place for soups. I had the large Tom Kah (Thai coconut milk soup w/fresh mushroom, onion, tomato & cilantro w/touch of lemongrass, spices & lime with Chicken). I got it to go. However, it was about 80% liquid and 20% solids. The broth was flavorful, but there was not a lot of chewing involved. Similarly, my Fresh Roll (Rice paper wrapped w/rice noodle, shrimps or tofu & assorted veggies, served w/peanut sauce with Shrimp) was also disappointingly skimpy. I am used to these looking like a small burrito, and this one was more of a cigar-shaped form factor. The main component on this day was lettuce. I did not pick up on a significant amount of anything else, and the peanut sauce was very bland. The outside is super cute & the staff is kind. However, the food does not taste authentic or have much flavor :( Everything we got looked great and the portion sizes were awesome but the taste was not good. Very bland. I've been going to this restaurant several times when visiting Fort Collins. It is the best Thai restaurant in Colorado where I have dined. I greatly enjoyed this place's Pad Thai and curry dishes. If you're looking for good Thai food options there are plenty to choose from here. If you're looking for the 'pepper' aspect of Thai food, I suggest asking for a higher level of spice than what you want. I ordered the tofu pad Thai and while it was flavorful, the medium spice level that I requested was slightly less than mild. I doctored up my large portion with some extra spice the server brought and all was well! I took the rest of my meal to go and plan on returning. The dining room is all one room, neat and clean. This is a small establishment more like a larger hole in the wall place. Indoor seating is 25-30, but that doesn't indicate quality in the least. The food is authentic and some of the best Thai in Fort Collins. This trip I had the Tom JHA soup with shrimp. It had a number of delicate flavors that come through despite my requesting medium spice level. The coconut base is thick and smooth with the basil and lemon grass highlights adding to a fantastic slight sweetness of the coconut milk. The large bowl it was served in yielded three servings with several shrimp each. For my entree I ordered the green curry chicken and opted for extra chicken as I was famished. The curry was also thick and a number of delightful flavors came through the medium spiciness. The jasmine rices is nicely done and holds the curry sauce nicely. The service size on this dish is sufficient for two, especially if one is doing lunch. Service is prompt, and pleasant. The decor is authentic Thai with the requisite photographs of the King and Queen of Thailand. The proprietors and staff are Thai as well. The menu is limited compared to other Thai establishments in town, but they focus more on authenticity and quality. Everything I have had there has been excellent. The only drawback is there is not extensive parking close by, but that should not deter one from enjoying a great meal here. This is a great place for authentic Thai. read more

Thai Pepper has been a Fort Collins Thai mainstay for many years. Unfortunately my most recent visit was a huge disappointment. When you can obviously tell when a restaurant is trying to cut corners things have gone downhill. The shrimp fresh roll (aka crystal roll) appetizer probably had 1 piece of shrimp diced into pea sized specs to fill the rolls. The peanut sauce was completely watered down and tasteless. The chicken pad thai was delicious but the portion was so small my husband and I were unable to share it. At the beginning, many years ago Thai Pepper had little competition in Fort Collins. My wife and I decided to try this place again since the new owners took over in the recent past. We ordered the pad thai and paneng curry, both combo (mix of meat), and an order of 5 chicken wings. The service was decent but when we received our meals we both were shocked at how gross the meat looked. We wondered if it was going to taste like it looked, sure enough it did! A few words to describe the mix of what appeared to be beef and chicken: tough, bland, stale, putrid, lifeless, and I could go on and on. Seriously though, this has got to be the lowest-quality and worst-treated meat we have EVER had in a restaurant. The rest of the meal was OK (including the wings) but not appetizing after trying the meat, being disgusted by it and leaving most of it on the side of the plate. If you decide to eat here (not recommended), pleased go vegetarian and spare yourself the horror of the meats. Get it together Thai Pepper and stop treating your customers like a bunch of idiots that don't know the difference between quality food and crap! read more

I cannot tell you how much I love Thai Pepper. I have been a regular there since they were still Toy's Thai down the street. I go there so much that they know my order and when they temporarily took the cashew chicken off the menu they would still make it for my partner. They have some of the best curries I have ever had. The staff is lovely and the owners are the sweetest. Can not give this place enough praise. Thai Pepper is a unique way to look at Thai food, I say this because when one goes in to a Thai restaurant, the expectations of Thai culture to be represented should be present. From the hostess to the waiter and even the cook, nobody in my eyes seemed to be of Thai heritage or ancestry, all were Caucasian kids that could go to the local college. My co worker that I was seated with, also mentioned this to me as we were waiting for our food. The food, as with the employees that served it did not seem authentic, the pineapple tasted like it was from a can and the sauce tasted like it was made from a mix you can buy at the local grocery store. Good pad thai at last! I ordered chicken pad thai to go and it was delicious and had that perfect sour quality that I love. I also had a coupon for spring rolls that the manager didn't seem to recognize but graciously accepted. They were also very good. An added benefit was that I was able to find parking close by! For me, honesty is one of the most important character traits a person can have. I'm willing to overlook other undesirable traits in friends, family, coworkers, and anyone that I have contact with, but if I can't trust them to be honest with me, the relationship is dead. In fact, there is no relationship. Honesty with others is a big part of who I am not only as a person, but as a critic. It's why I "tell it like I taste it." For the most part, this level of honesty is easy for me. I have no issue sharing both the negative and the positive of a dining experience. But then we visited Thai Pepper and a horrible mistake was made in the kitchen. It was rectified, and we were given the honest details of what happened, but still - that trust was broken with me. I began to feel a sense of dread creep up on me as I prepared to write this review. It's a detail that I just can't leave out - I have to be honest. But for the first time ever, I almost wish someone wasn't as honest with me as they were. I ordered the Tom Kah. It was served in a gigantic hot pot with a warmer in the center. The soup was incredibly delicious - very savory and filled with large chunks of vegetables. I really enjoyed this soup and thought it was one of the best Tom Kah's I've had in Fort Collins. I returned again for dinner with the family. The kids menu is really great here, offering more Thai items than fried nuggets. The Preschooler ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. It was enormous - pretty much the portion size of an adult plate and I think it overwhelmed him a bit. This time I took a bite for a taste test. It was sweet and not too dry. The noodles had a lovely thick chewiness and they were covered in delicious sauce. It was the ideal kids' Pad Thai. The Husband ordered Si-Ew. And this is where things went horribly wrong. He took a bite of beef and contorted his face. "Wow, this beef is horrible. I can't even chew it. What should I do??" "Tell our server. Send it back," I replied. At this point our server was busy with a lot of tables and she never came to see how things were tasting. The kids were getting restless and it had already taken a very long time for the kitchen to prepare our order. Service was not swift, by any means. "Well, I've already eaten a good deal of noodles. I'll just ask her to charge me for a vegetarian plate," he sighed. He continued to dig through the beef trying to find at least one or two edible pieces. He would take a bite and it would sound like he was chewing on rocks with loud snaps and crackles. It was gross. Our server finally made it to the table with our check and The Husband let her know about the beef. She was incredibly nice about it. She took the dish back to the kitchen and returned to our table. "I am so sorry. This isn't our beef. This was a bag of beef set off to the side. I really apologize for this." After she gave us the check for the rest of the meals, The Husband turned to me - both of us wide-eyed and in disbelief. "Was that the nice way of telling us that I was served mystery meat???" Yes, it was. We have no idea what meat it was, where it came from, why it wasn't theirs, why it came from a random bag, and why it ended up on his plate. It was a horrific acknowledgment. I really didn't know what to make of the situation. The issue was corrected, but how could I leave this out of the review?? And how much information is too much information from a server? This situation will be forever burned into my memory as a critic, and one where I really questioned the value of complete honesty. Before this dish, I was very happy with all of our experiences at Thai Pepper and I really enjoyed each meal that I tried. While they didn't make my list of favorite Thai restaurants in Fort Collins, they weren't considered bad by any means. This mystery meat incident completely broke my trust in the skills in the kitchen. I understand that mistakes happen, but this is one I'll be turned-off by for a very, very long time. read more

We usually love this place, so to give it such a low rating seems really weird. We've come here at least 20 times in the last few years. I'd get anything, except the pad thai. In reference to a previous post, it tastes very sweet and sugary. Any other item we've gotten, we usually love... The last time we went, we did take out. We will never do this again. I was told that it would be 30 min., which I actually thought was long, considering their fast turn around times, usually. It ended up being 55 minutes. So, we will of course go here again, at some point...but never do take out again. read more

Perhaps I was spoiled in Hawaii with all the great Thai restaurants, but this place was mediocre at best. I had came here in the past and it was good, but since living in HI, I now know what good Thai food is supposed to taste like. The sticky rice wasn't very sticky, the service was not very good, and the food was "meh." While the place is cute and always busy, it is deceiving. So upon the latest visit our order messed up, which became uncomfortable as I was able to eat, but my gf had to sit there. I tried to eat as slowly as possible since she insisted I go on and eat. Anyways, I will keep searching for good Thai in CO, hopefully the next lace I try is much better than this place since it is very mediocre. read more
