If you can't make pad thai right, I am sorry, I can't say you are a good thai restaurant. They just have hired a different chef. It is not my first time to visit this place. It used to be better. I won't lie, the seasonings and flavors are really good, and it's hard to find good Thai food around here. It is really overly priced for what you get though. I ordered the chicken and mushroom soup in coconut milk. I had three small bites of chicken with a ton of onions and no mushroom. The pad Thai was delicious, but I had about 3 bites of chicken in there too, and 2 shrimp. My partner ordered a meat dish and said there wasn't enough meat in her serving. The sailor and I love this place! Everything is good. Even the tap water. Seriously. Simon, the owner always has a smile when we come in. And he always has our table ready; which is quite amusing as we don't eat there that often. But when we do go the food is consistently great. On Friday and Saturdays the restaurant tends to be busier, which of course, raises the noise level. Some of our favorites are the beef satay and the pineapple fried rice. Today I was adventurous and tried the Pho. Oh MY! It's like chicken soup for the soul. Oh so tasty. Pros: Lots of parking, great service, great food, We've never had to wait for a table to open up. The server took our order for appetizer and ran away. Didn't even give us a chance to order out drinks. Sucks for them because I was going to order a cocktail but changed my mine once they left. When the other server brought out our appetizer he was confused as to which table the food was for. When he did come we were able to order our drinks and our entrees. 15 mins later we still didn't get our drinks (a beer and a Thai iced tea) but the regulars got their wine and appetizers. Who doesn't like a surprise; moreover, who doesn't like a surprise when it happens during one of your favorite past time endeavors, dining out. I stopped in for lunch on Sunday, the place was moderately full with only one waiter but the service was quick, efficient and the food arrived promptly from the kitchen. First let me start with perhaps the biggest surprise, I ordered a "Beer Lao" a lager beer brewed with Jasmine Rice, French Malt, German hops and water from the Himalaya's. Wow, wow and quadruple wow!!! I'm a purist when it comes to beers preferring, lagers, pilsners, helles and Koelsches to ales. The fruity esters and spicy notes of ales don't quite get me over the thirst quenching top like lagers do. This one is at the top of the Asian lager rice beer brewing heap in my opinion, besting Kirin Ichiban, Sapporo, Asahi, OB, Hite, Tiger...and so on. Now the second surprise, while this is billed as a Thai restaurant the food is Laotian which is very similar to Thai but not as bold in the use of shrimp paste and with a very subtle feint sweetness to each of the dishes. I remarked to our waiter (owner) the food was very similar to the King and I Thai (Laotian) restaurant in Hartford, CT, he said the owners there are his best friends. I ordered a vegetarian Tom Yum soup, Pad Thai and a small Papaya salad in each case I got the Lao version and it was very very good. If you are a died in the wool Thai restaurant aficionado you might take issue with the Laotian spin on things, I happen to like both and the Thai Place does a very credible job. The price point for most items on the menu is moderate and to underscore that, a regular Tom Yum soup with chicken or shrimp is $3.95 the vegetarian version only $3.50 when have you seen that in any Thai restaurant. I like this place and plan to return and you can bet Beer Lao will be the first thing I order. read more

My favorite place to get thai food! Whenever I'm in the area I try my best to stop by. The owner is super sweet and accommodating to your preferences. Food is cheap yet still delicious. The pad thai is one of the best I've had. I would say this place compares to if not better Dok Bua in Brookline. The choo chee duck is SO rich and flavorful, I'm addicted. I got tofu pad Thai - not too adventurous but it's my favorite: light, fresh, spring-like. This was the opposite. It had way too much sauce that made the dish really heavy and rich. Tried for the first time. There were two of us and we wanted to sample a few different dishes. Were sat right away and the place looked clean. We had heard many good reviews from people we know. Our waitress gave us plenty of time, almost too much, to review the menu. We decided to try the Won Ton soup, Tom Yum Chicken soup, Racha Trio, Lemongrass Shrimp, Pad Thai and one Singha beer. It took some time for our soup to come. When it did, it was screaming hot. The Won Ton soup lacked flavor but the Tom Yum was very tasty. I was finally able to take a bite of my soup when our dinners arrived... about two minutes after our soup. Timing was horrible. I pushed my soup aside thinking it would still be hot long after we ate our dinners because they were not so hot. We split some Pad Thai, Racha Trio, and Lemongrass Shrimp between two plates and dug in. Everything was good until I found a hair in the Racha Trio. We promptly scraped what was on our plate back into the serving dish and proceeded to nosh on the Pad Thai and Lemongrass Shrimp. Both were tasty. We were just about finished before we had to find our waitress and pull her aside to politely inform her of our finding. She asked if we wanted her to have the order remade, but we declined and asked that she take it off our bill. We finished the rest of our meal. Without asking if we wanted dessert, offering a free dessert or coffee, or anything else for that matter, she brought our bill. They did not try to do anything to remedy the situation. I am very dissatisfied with how they handled this unfortunate situation. Our bill was $32.00. And we did leave a tip. They should try to do better in the area of customer satisfaction and making sure the food they serve is the best possible. And put on a hair net! We will not be going back nor will we recommend Thai Palace to our friends. read more

A really pleasant surprise. Yelp helped us find Thai Place while on the road. We had the Golden Bag app and they were delicious - fresh, homemade and served fast and hot. For entrees we had Pad Thai which was good but a little sweet. The Thai Place duck was delicious. Also a little sweet but a nice piece of duck breast perfectly cooked. I had the Pad See Eaw and it was pretty wonderful. I found that this menu isn't like the menus at other thai places, which was the only thing I struggled with. I wanted drunken noodles, but those didn't seem to be on the menu. Overall pretty all right. Don't be too concerned if there aren't to many people there when you show up. I did take out - real basics: pad thai 2 ways, chicken and shrimp, chicken satay and the thai rolls. Employees were super friendly, my order was ready right on time. The bar and dining room are beautiful - I actually thought to myself, I want to just come hang out at this bar. The pad thai was okay - way too sweet, no lime, should have been garnished with fresh peanut and sprouts. The portions were huge. Chicken satay was delicious and the kids devoured it. I did take away one star because the lack of bamboo shoots in the curry, but a plus because they didn't put any warm slices of tomatoes in it either. Thai Place looks like a hole-in-the-wall from the outside, but has awesome food that is worth trying. The crab rangoons were creamy and delicious, and the Tom Yum Chicken soup was amazing - very flavorful broth and chicken. I also had the Pad Thai, which was good but not the best I've ever had. My only complaint is that I didn't receive plastic silverware for my takeout order. Other than that, great experience overall! read more

Every time I go here, service is quick and efficient. The food is also really good (if you don't have food allergies, as it's really hard to get your allergies accommodated here), and pretty authentic. I would definitely recommend the pad thai or the curries, as those are ALWAYS delicious! It's incredibly cheap too, so it works well with a college student's budget a lot better than Amherst or Northampton. The only really big issue that I have with this place is that it's tiny, and therefore, loud and very discombobulated, especially on the weekends. There's a bar in the front of the restaurant too, so that doesn't help much either. Last time I was there, there was a huge party that spanned across 3 tables (they don't have a party room) and all of the party-goers were having fun and drinking a lot, which led to a lot of screaming, loud laughing, and I couldn't even hear my friend across the table. These people were also running around tables, taking pictures and talking to others, and so they were causing a lot of issues for the waitstaff. I'll still go back here, but definitely not on a weekend, especially with someone with claustrophobia and PTSD of loud noises. read more

I recommend the Thai crispy duck if you're into cute birds that cook well. The angel wings are a gift the heavens. I also recommend those. In fact I recommend everything. You can't go wrong when a place like this know what's up and they do you right every time. If you become a familliar face you'll be greeted with kindness, a song or two from Simon, the guy who puts amaze in amazeballs. The Thai place is also great for letting go after an intense day of dealing with the wife and kids or if your boss was grinding your arse or getting together with the girls after a long day of having your hands knucks deep in diapers.
