I've lived in Westfield for more than 20 years. I probably tried Golden Peacock about 15 years ago, and the experience was so disappointing that we ended up throwing most of the food away. Tonight, I found myself home alone and hungry, and after seeing so many positive reviews, I decided to give them another chance. The staff were very friendly, but I noticed the same unusual smell I remembered from years ago. I ordered Combo A: General Tso's Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Crab Rangoon. The pork fried rice was underwhelming. The pork was tough, and the flavor seemed to be little more than soy sauce. It was mostly rice with a few onion slices and pieces of pork. The General Tso's Chicken was disappointing as well. There was very little actual chicken and a lot of batter. The sauce was brown in color and tasted nothing like the General Tso's sauce I've had elsewhere. It lacked flavor, and aside from a single piece of pepper, there were no vegetables. The Crab Rangoon was okay. The texture was different from what I'm used to, but it was edible. Overall, I found it to be an $18.75 meal that was largely inedible. While I appreciate the friendly service, the food simply wasn't for me, and unfortunately my second visit didn't change my opinion. read more

Great fruendly service and some of the best teriyaki and boneless ribs I've had. They both were tender and juicy with great flavor. I ordered the generals' chicken extra spicy and they nailed it. Also did a pupu platter for 1 appetizer and it was excellent. My only complaint was most of the food wasn't very hot, just warm. Otherwise, it would have been 5 stars. We tried Golden Peacock last Friday and boy were we surprised!!! They were absolutely delicious. When we got there there was only 2 tables occupied. That was short lived. The next thing you knew just about every table was full. Also people were lined out the door waiting for their orders to go. When our order arrived it was absolutely delicious. This place was the best in the area for years, it has gone so far down hill as far as quality and friendliness of the owner. I order a combo dinner which included PORK FRIED RICE, pork lo mein and beef teriyaki, when ordering I asked instead of pork lo mein in my combo dinner can I do beef lo mein...."no problem". Get my order home there was limited beef lo mein and no PORK FRIED RICE. I called the restaurant to let them know they forgot my pork fried rice and the asshole owner got up set at me and claims cause I switched from pork lo mein to beef low mein the combo dinner is no longer the meal anymore therefore I get no rice. So long story short, they are cheap and ignorant and the quality of food has been going down hill for the last couple of years and it's a shame cause it was very very good at one point. This place was a surprise. We have been looking for Vegan options and did not see Golden Peacock mentioned. Some of the places that were on the vegan search were disappointing. We were in the area for other shopping and decided to try, not expecting much. Golden Peacock had several vegan options. The food was well prepared. The vegetables were crisp and perfect. The last thing I ordered from Golden Peacock was the pu pu platter for two. While ordering, the lady taking the order mentioned, perhaps accidentally, a substitution fee if I chose identical items for the first and second orders (my kids wanted chicken fingers for both). I told her charging a substitution fee for identical items made no sense, but she said it is their policy. Note that I have been ordering from this restaurant for years and had never been told of this fee until now. This leads me to wonder how many times I have been charged this ridiculous fee in the past. I don't believe the receipt is itemized, so unless a customer did the math, he or she would not realize that it is being tacked on. Aside from being charged a substitution fee for an order where nothing was substituted, the quality of the food is decent, if not overly greasy. Considering their relatively high prices compared to the competition and lack of a delivery option, the secret substitution fee leaves a "bitter taste" in my mouth. Never again!!! I ordered orange chicken and got something unidentifiable. I called and was told that there is no such thing as orange chicken in traditional Chinese cooking. The chicken was pretty bad, the breading tasted and felt old like it was reheated or has been sitting around and there wasn't a single hot pepper to be seen anywhere. Stopped by for a late lunch. Perused the menu seeing the normally offered dishes most Chinese places serve up. Chose the #9 dinner which was General Tsao' s chicken, pork fried rice, eggroll, & choice of wonton or chicken rice soup. My order came out promptly. My eyes actually widened (See photo) when the plate was delivered. Very generous portions and the egg roll was huge ! Taste was great and the plate presented nicely. If you are looking for a no nonsense, no frills place with pretty good Chinese food, you found it. Not too greasy, ample portion, super friendly service (our waitress was so bubbly and helpful), and the price is right... Don't come for the ambiance, get it to go (I recommend the beef teriyaki and the general tso) and go cuddle up at home with whatever ya like, binge a show and just enjoy. My first time going and I got take out. #10 dinner and it came with soup. Boneless spare ribs, fried rice, 2 deep fried pork, 2 deep fried shrimp, and an egg roll. Too much food for one sitting. I recommend going to Golden Peacock. The restaurant was more busy than usual. But the waiters were trying there best. The restaurant was a little dark and the doorway was really small but it was nice and clean. When the food came out it was steamy and smelled delicious. The lomein was steamy and smelled really good. The chicken fingers were golden brown and soft and savory. The beef teriyaki was sweet and savory at the same time. The pork was warm and sweet. The inside of the restaurant looked family friendly. There was many tables and booths so there was a lot of room for people. The cost of the food wasn't bad. We got 2 pupu platters, one pupu platter was around $20. My wife and I have been going here for years. Food has always been excellent and last night was no exception. Probably the best hot and sour soup I ever had, thick, rich and a cure all for cold weather! We tried the appetizer #2, hot and sour soup,egg rolls and pork lo mein. Price is right here! The portions are great and the food is good. The only downside is they can get overwhelmed when they have to service several costumers at once. It's a family run restaurant, and they work with who they have on hand. Usually it's one person waiting on all the tables and if they happen to be busy, you'll wait a bit. read more

We went to Golden Peacock for our New Years Eve dinner. It was crowded, but we got there just in time to grab a booth. Seeing as it was so busy, it took some time for the waitress to come to our table and take our order. We have been here in the past and the food has been WONDERFUL. So we went to place our order. We love the sesame tofu, and veggie lo mein, so we were going to order 2 of each. The waitress informed us that they had run out of tofu, so we decided on getting some veggie spring rolls with the lo mein, instead of the sesame tofu (which was really THE reason we went there in the first place). Unfortunately, the waitress decided to be honest with us and leaned in to let us know that they had not, in fact, run out of tofu, but that they "didn't have time" to cook it for us. As I mentioned before, they WERE very busy, but it really upset us that we could have ordered any meat product and they would have found the time to make that, but because we ordered tofu, our meal expectation was too much trouble for them. Once we found out the truth, we decided to leave without ordering anything. I'm even hesitant to go back. If we, as paying customers, aren't as important to them as someone ordering meat, then why would I want to spend my money there? It was very frustrating considering how long we had waited for the waitress to come take our order (it was over 35 minutes). We ended up going to another Chinese restaurant in town that had no problem accommodating our tofu order. If you offer a menu item, you should be willing to accommodate all dietary choices regardless of how busy you are. read more

This is some if the best around. There boneless ribs are the best. This is a must for Chinese food. The pork fried rice is always soft and fluffy. You may wait a little longer for food than most Chinese restaurant because the food is not precook and siting under a counter waiting to be reheated. They cook to order. I love this place! Their delivery service is great! They can be a bit slow in the restaurant but that because most of their business is delivery.
